The breading on the fish is odd - not the usual crunchy, crispy batter that one would expect to be deep fried. While eating it made me wonder if the fish was deep fried and frozen beforehand. Didn't taste like they battered and fried at the restaurant from scratch. The service was really good though as the takeout staff was more than friendly. I hate to leave negative reviews but unfortunately I had a poor experience at this location when picking up my order. TLDR; poor customer service, waited 30 min in store for a pickup order while everyone else was served before me I placed an online order for pick up at 11:15 (the earliest time available since they open at 11). I arrived at 10:55 and the doors were open so I walked in and let the worker know I had an online order. They said that they wouldn't receive the online orders until 11, so I said no problem and grabbed a seat. While I was sitting the workers walked past me several times as they were setting up so they definitely knew that I was waiting there. There was a rush of customers after 11, so I didn't want to bother the employees (since they knew that I had been sitting there since before they opened). I sat and waited for my food. At 11:15, my order was not ready. Meanwhile the kitchen was pumping out orders for dine-in customers, catering orders, and online orders for customers who arrived after me. At 11:25 I finally went up and asked the worker if my food would come out soon. They said it was almost ready and to wait a bit longer. Then the worker actually continued to serve another customer with an online order first- this customer even noticed me waiting for a long time and told the worker "actually she was waiting here before me". The worker didn't seem to care and gave that customer his food and ignored me completely. I received my food at 11:30 and the worker said sorry for the wait. I said ok but I just want to let you know the situation from my perspective and that I'm disappointed in the customer service. The worker said they were busy, etc. then repeatedly said to me "what would you like me to do about it". I told her I didn't want her to do anything and that I was just expressing my disappointment. The conversation became heated and the worker got quite hostile and was not apologetic at all in her tone. Overall I'm giving two stars rather than one because the food was fine and the manager I spoke to was apologetic. However I will not return to this location and I cannot recommend it for others (especially not pickup orders). Looking at past reviews it looks like another customer had the same experience as me just one month ago which seems alarming. I hope the workers can have better training on how to treat customers who are sitting directly in front of them for 30 min. read more

The food and service have been consistently good and are worth regular visits. A few of my favorites are the grilled fish plates (catfish, trout, and mahi mahi), battered fish tacos, clam chowder, and fish and chips. For the plates, there are a lot of options for the sides. I like the rice, asparagus, fire-roasted street corn, and sweet potato fries. CFG also offers Seasonal and Taco Tuesday specials. There's indoor and patio dining, and it is spacious most of the time. Lunch and dinner can be busy with diners. I've taken advantage of ordering through the mobile app for the past few visits. Lunchtime is my usual time for a meal here, and the restaurant gets bustling. Ordering ahead for takeout has been a big time saver. In a great sign of the times, somehow a fast casual place selling actual seafood (California Fish Grill) costs as much as a regularly priced Chik Fil A or Wendys. In comparison, CA Fish Grill wins for both taste and value. The key to CA Fish Grille is to take them up on their lunch specials and Taco Tuesdays. Tacos are only $3.50 each and can be had with salmon, white fish, or shrimp and come with loads of toppings and sauce. The flavor is also fresh and tasty as well, far far beyond McDonalds fish. While the staff here seems super friendly and nice every time I come here or order from here, I believe overall Company policy or quality customer experience brings the rating down. Like 2.5-3 cups it seemed like. All the other mentioned ingredients ,including any sauces are non existent. Salmon???? Where? They dont put two filets or even on filet and let you shred with your fork. Nope. You have to go hunt for salmon bits in this bowl. As for Wasabi, maybe a slight hint but since the Wasabi peas were almost non existent, as were the sauces, you can hardly taste it. This was a real expensive disappointment for what I got. I paid $30 for a bowl of rice when all was said ans done. Never again! Stay away from their new bowls. Most reviews ive read say the same thing about portion size and value or quality! California fish grill....customer experience is everything. Think of yourself as the customer. We don't want to complain or go back or figure out how to add notes to get the order the way we like it. You are a profitable company, no need to keep skimping while increasing the cost. This place used to rock and I loved it a lot but their recent expansion plans haven't helped them. The chicken tenders were so small for the price I paid. The lobster menu is absolutely not worth it at all. Good yes but for the price no. Portions have gotten smaller and they even took away the bread they used to give. On the bright side, every location now has taco tuesday and before only this one did. Their battered fish tastes like nothing. Updating my review because the service seems to have gone down hill. I have the bad habit of not checking my order before I take it home. I have been sick but craving the grilled chicken and zucchini with garlic butter sauce. I almost ordered for delivery but it would cost an arm and a leg so I opted for pickup. The menu is varied and we especially like how we could control ingredients. In my case I was able to reduce the sodium content. Food was ready in about 15 minutes. Went here on a Tuesday night after a couple of years. Before it was standing room only and very busy. Service - out the gate the service here is fantastic. They have self-serve ordering stations right when you walk in and someone standing by to help. If you don't like machines there's also someone at a register to assist you. Throughout the meal, the manager walks briskly throughout the restaurant checking in with everyone. He was really nice. The cleaning is 100% as someone walks around clearing tables and wiping down tables quickly. We were here at lunch on Saturday around 1pm. There is plenty of seating inside and on the patio. Food: Miso salmon bowl with brown rice - I asked for the sauce on the side. Drizzling the sauce on the fish and rice to my own liking made this dish absolutely delicious. Probably my new favorite dish here. Cajun fish tacos on flour tortillas - flour is extra. Served with two sides: we picked fries and tomato feta. My friend loved it and said the tomato side was really good. I ordered one Cajun fish taco on the default corn tortilla with every thing on it Such as roasted corn, pickled onions, sauce, etc.; it was delicious. The corn tortilla held its shape really well and it was clearly fresh. The soda fountain here is pretty rad. They serve stubborn sodas and you can get a zesty root beer or a cherry soda (along with the more traditional options). They should prob check the output on the root beer option as water sprays everywhere out of that one and it got all over my hands and arm when I was trying to fill up my cup. But the fun soda options were flavorful and yummy. I've been here in the past, and when they first opened, and wasn't a huge fan. But their updated and vastly expanded menu, their uptick in customer service, and their quality of food items will have me returning again soon! read more
