I had not been to a Rubio's in over 7 years when I last worked in Santa Ana and was within walking distance of one so I decided to give it a try. One cashier was on duty as they have two kiosks to place your order on. I was trying to add beans and rice via the kiosk as they had an add on via their menu board; however, you can only order that via the cashier. I ordered the trio fish tacos with the beans and rice. They were tasty but pretty pricey for street tacos at 13.99 not including the beans and the rice. Dining area was very clean and a decent size. read more

Service is usually okay here but today was bad enough for me to write this review. First, I tried to order at the register and the lady who is usually working there (I assume she is the manager or shift leader) took a long time to figure out the ordering system since "they got a new system" installed, which is understandable. However, right before she was suppose to give me my fountain drink and number for some reason she decides to help someone else who was also complaining about something with online ordering. I mean, isn't it common sense to finish my transaction first before you move on to the next person? I finally get my cup and number after having to ask some other worker for help. Then when the food arrives the same lady forgets the beans that come with the combo I ordered. The food is good here however. Would definitely recommend the shrimp and bacon burrito and fish tacos. Val is very nice and sweet she deserves a raise and maybe even a promotion. I mistook her for the manager who herself is just ok in my experience. Food and portions here are consistently good. I'm still keeping the rating at 3 stars, but I really don't have much hope left for a positive outlook of Rubio's near-term future, especially considering they had to file for bankruptcy twice in a span of four years. Rubio's was a favorite of mine in Lakewood before their untimely closure 2 years ago, which I can never understand corporate's decision to do so as their definition of underperforming clearly differs from mine. I came again this year for National Fish Taco Day, where Rubio's was offering their Original Fish Tacos, normally $4.99, for just 99 cents, so definitely a steal of a deal in this economic era. This time, it was a limit of two per rewards member, and a purchase had to be made to qualify for the $8 off with purchase of two fish tacos. I intended for the fish tacos to be a mid-afternoon snack, so I wasn't looking for a full meal. So instead of ordering a side or some other taco to go with my two Original Fish Tacos, I decided a small cup of avocado crema would do the trick. At only a half dollar, it was enough to bring my grand total to less than $3. How about that for savings?! But as impressive as these savings were, the fish tacos were not. I guess I really did get what I paid for here. In my online order, I requested extra salsa, cabbage, and lime crema, all of which would not incur an additional charge. I also asked to swap out the corn tortilla for a flour tortilla. They got the tortilla part right at least, but it felt like they went the opposite way for the extras. Like I didn't get nearly as much salsa, cabbage, and lime crema as I wanted, and I had to use the entire cup of avocado crema to give the fish tacos the flavor I desired. I was hoping to use the avocado crema sauce for my eventual dinner that night, but that unfortunately was not the case. And the fish itself felt so much smaller than before! I remember they'd use a big piece of Wild Alaska Pollock for their tacos, but this time, it felt miniscule! And that was for *both* tacos! At least they gave me a fork so I could keep my hands clean for the most part, but that fork would have been much more useful had I actually gotten extra of the extras that I asked for. Luckily, the tacos themselves tasted good that I'm not downgrading my rating to two stars. However, I can't imagine paying $10 for those two tacos again, especially if I have to drive much further to do so. Taco Nazo is much closer, and their fish tacos are indubitably superior while being 50 cents cheaper! Unless Rubio's decides to give out free fish tacos sometime later this year, I do not plan on trying another Rubio's fish taco until, at the earliest, next year's National Fish Taco Day. And even so, no guarantee I'd return to this location for that. I had gone on Saturday, but the promo would have worked the following day as well. I had other plans that following day, and I have no regrets on missing out on another pair of Rubio's fish tacos. Things are looking bleak for Rubio's now. They share a parking lot with Del Taco, and even though Del Taco is a dime a dozen, I think that Del Taco would be a better choice for tacos than this Rubio's. read more

I've been to many other Rubio locations, and I'm sad that many have closed; fortunately, a couple are still close to me. I enjoy the food here, from tacos and burritos to the limited-time seasonal items. They've been consistent through the years, and this location has been my local spot lately. My go-to items are the original fish tacos, the grilled mahi-mahi, the grilled shrimp, and the salmon. The burritos are great, too, with unique ingredients that work well together. They also give chips with the burrito orders. Don't sleep on the chicken and steak options, either. During Fall/Winter, they have langostino lobster tacos and burritos, but I wish they could add a few more pieces of the langostino. It's still, however, one of my favorite seasonal items. The self-serve salsa bar has some tasty sauces, and when I want more heat, I grab the Diablo sauce bottle. So good! Beer, wine, and sangria are available, along with fountain and canned/bottled drinks! This location has a clean, spacious dining area with both indoor and outdoor seating. I've also been using the mobile app for discounts, rewards, and easy ordering. It helps when on the go! The prices have been increasing, but are still reasonable, and the food quality and service are consistent. read more

Better than I remembered. In the 2000s, I generally preferred Baja Fresh or El Pollo Loco, but I came back with a giftcard and was pleased. Many choices; good chips and salsas. My boyfriend enjoyed the fried fish burrito, and I enjoyed the California burrito (of course, nothing can compare to getting one in SD). Friendly staff, enough parking in this plaza with Daiso as well. Clean and colorful restaurant. Overall, not bad. read more

Located in the Anaheim Plaza Shopping Center. The location is well maintained and the staff continue to walk the floor to restock items that look low. They offer a daily special on entree items between $7.99-$9.99 ( tacos, wraps, burritos, salads). I always like their fish tacos and their Nachos. The salsa bar is unlimited so it's a great way of trying out different salsas. The drink station is located towards the back area. Bottle drinks are located by the register. Overall great service + ample area to sit. read more

Just a PSA- DO NOT come here on Taco Tuesday not even for online pickup. You will be waiting at least 30 minutes past your promised time for order to be ready. I've been patronizing this location of Rubios for at least 5-7 years. Customer service is great, salsa bar is great, mango iced tea is great. Cleanliness of the restaurant is great. However, the value for the price? Not bad on Tues.....but it seems there may be extra batter on those fish tacos... Anyway had an original fish burrito yesterday $12.99 + mango iced tea.... $18 The size of the fish burrito was ridiculous (small) and adding tortilla chips to the plate makes ZERO difference. We were overcharged by elizabeth on 7/17 . At first the total sounded like a lot and we trusted her until we got home and realized we were over charged. Be careful with these employees they act so confident like they know what they are doing but they really dont. I'm guessing the lobster burrito is out of season, because I went in looking for it and they didn't have it :( So the two-taco plate Friday special has become my go-to order. It tastes great, although there is absolutely no care taken to prep. Even when I gently take the box to my table, it looks like someone just threw the ingredients in the box...like a deconstructed taco... XD It's kinda hilarious how I have to reassemble my tacos and put all of the innerds back into it when I open the box. App fraud and General Manager is rude and unresponsive. The store employee told me this has been happening for over a year and one of the fraud people order $3000 worth of food to the same address on multiple orders and Manager is doing NOTHING. I have food restrictions, vegan by choice and gluten free because I have to be. So food can get complicated. I ordered a cilantro lime bowl extra veggies instead of animal protein and hold the black beans. No problem not overly difficult, I'm so glad I checked before I left. They had added black beans on accident. They remade the order and a bit later it's ready. No black beans, but they neglected to put the extra veggies on and the taco my friend ordered had more lettuce than my entire bowl. It's just disappointing the lack of care or detail. read more

This whole Covid has really messed with my taste buds. I've been craving fish tacos. Do I even like fish tacos? Ask me a month ago and I would of stuck out my tongue with a huge NO Way! I've been here a few times for their street tacos. Minus the guacamole which is another thing I decided to eat during Quarantine and liked it. Their burritos are good according to the Mister. Chicken quesadillas are also good. The real winner are those Fish Tacos with extra salsa! They are so flippin delicious. Their old salsa bar was great but no longer open, thanks COVID. I have been coming to this location for years and it has always been good. I'm not sure why there are some bad reviews. They always have special items which are salmon or shrimp. The quality of the food is good. The staff is nice. The prices are reasonable. You can eat outside and relax and they will bring the food to you. This place is vastly underrated. read more
