Came here for lunch recently with one of my book clubs per recommendation of one of our girlies who is a regular here! Ordered queso fundido to share, ceviche pescado, taco gobernado (shrimp and cheese), and quesabirria taco (cheese and pulled beef). Pretty filling and was delicious, even if it was on the pricey side. The first time I visited I only had a flight of tequila and it was near closing time. Gustavo the bartender was very welcoming and seated us promptly. I was surprised by the tequila presentation as I only expected shots alone. The presentation of the tequila flight was fun and unexpectedly turned out to be an opportunity to learn about culture. At my second visit, I visited solo and ordered both food and drinks this time. Talia greeted and seated me right away. She and Gustavo were both super nice and made me feel safe and comfortable at the bar. Armando was also very friendly and cordial. The asada taco was surprisingly good. They did not skimp on the meat. Also the chips and salsa are soooo good. My favorite is the red salsa. I love how the chips are thin and crunchy. If you like margaritas, I highly recommend the Lime Margarita. So good! La Huasteca is the type of place where you can visit alone or with friends and have a pleasant time no matter what. We spent the weekend in Buena Park and visited the Source outdoor Korean mall. At the very top of the mall, on the third floor, is La Huasteca, which is a Mexican restaurant centered around a bunch of Korean restaurants and bars. Once we arrived they were understaffed but the bartender came from behind the bar to help us and prepare a table outside for us. My friend ordered noodles and wanted to eat with us and they were cool about it. After cleaning our table, they quickly brought us menus and took or drink orders. Finally a waitress came and helped us so the bartender could go back to attending to the bar and she was also great. Service was solid. The only thing they messed up on was bringing our guacamole and chips after we had our meals. I went with the salmon Puerta Vallarta with rice, which was very good! It does come with Habanero peppers and I made the unfortunate mistake of eating one and burning my mouth. My kids ordered a cheese burger with fries and a bean & cheese burrito with fries. They both enjoyed their meals. My wife went with the chicken fajitas and I had a few pieces of chicken, which was really good. My family and I were craving tacos so, we decided to go to this Mexican restaurant located on the 3rd floor of a Korean shopping mall. Lol! There is free parking at the structure next door. There was a consensus for Ensenada Fish Tacos and the Quesabirria Tacos at my table. One person did ordered Potato Tacos and I don't even see that on the menu. Everyone at my table seemed to enjoy their food. For every 1 Quesabirria taco, you get a small sauce container of a nice and tangy consome. The breaded part of the fish taco was darker than I usually find them to be, and it did taste like it was fried for too long. They are generous with all the ingredients in the taco -- it's a big bite. We enjoyed our cucumber agua fresca. It wasn't too sweet and they made sure to give us a glass half- full of ice so we could have more of what we actually pay for. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. The food came out in a timely manner, our water glasses were always full and we walked out of the restaurant pretty satisfied with our experience. It's a great place to have a birthday party! This restaurant is fun and fairly priced. The service was attentive, making sure we were pleased with our meal. We enjoyed the Cevichi, shrimp and fish tacos. All were nothing less than both tasty and LARGE! The service was very good and the atmosphere enjoyable. Now for the down side...I found the restaurant after I interrupted an attendant working on her job. The signage doesn't always match up. You may want to go to the top floor (4), but the elevator only goes to 3. We'll, you push 3 and you get 4. Leaving was an adventure. I couldn't find my car. I ended up asking their security staff for helping to find my car. They were most helpful. They geI know. We all know men don't ask for directions. This restaurant is in the Source mall, on the top floor. Food was ok nothing out of the ordinary. We ordered guacamole, shrimp ceviche, Mexican Ceasar salad with grilled chicken, two fish tacos, one shrimp taco, and one asada taco. The shrimp taco had way too much batter - there was only two shrimp inside the batter. I took the batter off as it was just too much. The other tacos were had by my friends and they said the tacos were just OK. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Saturday during lunch time. We had to flag down the server to get refills on water & sodas. They were nice about letting us have the cake at the restaurant (one of the friends brought it for bday) & provided paper plates & plastic forks for them. Tonight, I had dinner with my coworkers at La Huastrca. On Wednesdays, margarita liters are $25, which felt like a great deal. We ordered the mango flavor but received lime instead. It wasn't what we expected, but it was still enjoyable. The nachos came in a smaller portion than I thought, though they tasted good. For their signature dish, Molcajete, we chose the seafood, but what arrived was mostly meat. We mentioned it, but since we didn't want to wait, we decided to just go ahead and eat it. When the check came, the margarita was charged at $30 instead of $25, but the server corrected it right away after we pointed it out. The atmosphere was lively and pleasant, but the service left a little to be desired. We came to La Huasteca with a large party of 10 (our reservation was originally for 8), and although we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a bigger table to open up, we eventually got seated once another large group left. I ordered the ribeye steak, which came with asparagus and corn. The steak was good, but I was a little surprised it didn't include beans and rice, so we had to order those as a side. The chips and salsa were actually really good and a nice way to start the meal. Unfortunately, the experience felt a bit rushed since we weren't able to order dessert -- the kitchen was closing at 10. Tucked away in the top floor in the corner of this Korean-infused shopping establishment is a Mexican restaurant with amazing and delicious food! Hidden gem! The chips were thin, crisp and light. They tasted fresh. I wish they had mild salsa though. Otherwise, great start. I could eat 3 baskets of their chips! They have an extensive menu of margaritas. Lots of fruity flavors. Very strong but tasty. We ordered: Carnitas Burrito - huge! Hubby loved the carnitas. He said it was very good. Street Tacos - looked delicious. My aunt ate them all. Came here for the first time last weekend. I was hoping for an authentic Mexican Cuisine experience. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The chips were very stale and presented in a less than appetizing manner. I had the carne asada and it was very mediocre especially given the portion and the $28 price. We also ordered the shrimp ceviche which was a food poisoning event waiting to happen. The ceviche was a off grey color and looked like it had been frozen and thawed many times. It resembled shrimp in the overall shape but the visual texture and color were gross and looked dangerous to eat. I brought it up to the servers attention and had it promptly removed. The molcajete was also delicious, and we loved the options on the seafood one (shrimp scallop octopus fish 1/2 lobster). The seafood felt very fresh and paired wonderfully. Came here for my birthday and honestly I will definitely be returning! The service was amazing ,our waiter was super attentive and very funny, which made the whole experience even better. The vibes here were great too. The place is full of beautiful decorations and they had great music playing the whole time, which made it feel really fun and festive. We came as a table of 8 and every single one of us enjoyed our food. I got their asada quesadilla, which came with a side of guac that was honestly probably the best guacamole I've ever had in my life! The portions were huge and I had to get a few to go boxes. I also ordered their birria tacos, such a simple thing to order, but wow, they were so good. Probably some of the best birria tacos I've had, and I'm picky with mine! They also made me feel really special on my birthday by putting on special music for me and even putting a sombrero on me for most of the dinner, which was hilarious and fun. They brought me a little slice of cake for my birthday too and it was really good! We also ordered churros for the table and they were so yummy, everyone loved them. I was craving some Mexican food so I thought I'd try this place out. I didn't expect much from a Mexican restaurant inside the Source Mall (mainly Korean establishments), but I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed! The Molcajete Azteca was delicious with a variety of meats and veggies. The manager, Bernard, also came by to check on how the food was, which I really appreciated. Not many restaurants do that these days. Apparently the complimentary chips and salsa are made in-house. They were light, thin, and crispy--just the way I like them. Every now & then, my bf and I try something new other than Asian foods. Heard this spot was really popular in the Source, so we had to try it out. Parking: There's a free parking structure. Finding a spot can be a hit or miss. There are compact parking spots, so be careful. Ambiance/Environment: This spot is located in the Source on the 3rd floor. Our waters were constantly filled and empty plates removed. What we ordered: 1) Trio Enchiladas - I ordered chicken enchiladas, and it came with 3 drenched in salsa Huasteca, salsa Potosina, and Mole Poblano sprinkled with cotija cheese. This was also served with rice, beans, & pico. Not only were the colors of the sauces vibrant, but they were also mouthwatering! The enchiladas were cooked well and easy to eat. 2) Tacos - Asada, Quesabirria, and Al Pastor. These were all delicious. My favorite was the Quesabirria. The consomé wasn't too spicy and very smoky! The asada & al pastor were flavorful! 3) Camarones a la Diabla - Shrimp and white rice with zarandeado. This was spicccyyy! I love the flavors of the sauce. There was a generous amount of shrimps! 4) Molcajete Azteca - Steak, chicken, pork, shrimps, chorizo, grilled cactus, panela cheese, pickled red onions, & their Molcajete sauce in a large rock stone. This was also served with rice, beans, pico, & tortillas x2. This was HUGE! Everything was absolutely mouthwatering! Make sure to drench everything in the Molcajete sauce to give it more flavor. My first time trying Huasteca and what a pleasant surprise!Particularly on the sizes! My friend and I decided to split a ceiviche and an app thinking the ceiviche wouldn't full both of us. We ordered the al pastor nachos thinking it would be a small size, wrong! In the best way their nachos are quiet large in size,served in a shallow soup bowl so theres way more in the bottom than what is shown. It has 2 types of cheses, nachos and mozzarella (i think?) And plenty of deliclious al pastor in the center. Easily shared between 4 people. We barely made a dent so my friend took the leftovers. It was delicious, loved it more than the ceviche. We started our dinner with their table side guacamole and queso fundido. For our main entree, we went with their Molcajete with the addition of octopus. Food was decent, but could have been better. They did have music playing in the main part of the restaurant and tvs. They have a patio area as well with heated fans maybe good for a cooler evening to see the view . I used to really like this place because they have good seafood, however I stopped coming for a while. This time I ordered to go for their spicy seafood appetizer, it was truly a disappointment. The sauce was still good, but the portion was so trash. Before they would provide side of chips and salsa, but I didn't receive anything at all. The octopus and scallop portion was so little. The first bite I had was the white sauce which is supposed to be a rich walnut cream sauce but it was cold, sweet and tasted like melted ice cream. Walnuts, cilantro and pomegranate seeds were on top. The poblano chile was large well stuffed and totally intact. The filling seemed like the same beef filling that my son had inside his enchilada. The filling is supposed to be the most unique part of this dish since it has meat, spice, nuts and fruits that make it a Chile en Nogada. My filling was all beef. We ordered the asada, pollo, al pastor, and birria tacos. Any drink or meal comes with free chips and 2 salsas - mild and hot. We've tried their chicken and salmon entrees and those are good too.
