Best Tortas in the Cypress/West GG area, hands down! I was feeling for some good Mexican, and I remembered the good Birria we had here some time back. This time I went a different direction though and picked up one of their Torta options - the Cubana. Fresh homemade bread with all of the fixings one would expect in a Cuban inspired Torta - quite large as well! The fam got Super Burritos, some with chicken and one with Al pastor. They had nothing but good to say - my son noting that it was really fresh tasting. The service was friendly and knowledgable, and they had our somewhat large order out in really good time. While you wait there's some arcade machines set to free play, a salsa bar with plenty of options, including roasted jalapeños. The place is clean with plenty of seating, and if I wasn't in a rush I'd have probably eaten there nust to get a few more rounds of Marvel v Capcom 2 in. ;) read more

Damn. I only have myself to blame. I really wanted to give them a chance ... but at this point I'm the dummy for going back. This time though, I'm done. I'll eat a road pizza rat-and-boiled-coyote taco that's been run over by a CR&R garbage truck before I'll step foot in this shitty establishment again. I ate at Tacos el Jefe just last evening and had ANOTHER horrible experience. I asked for the "queso" tacos and they made soft tacos without cheese. I told the girl that I did not order soft tacos and expected hard shell, grilled tacos with cheese. She took them back and when she returned it was obvious they added a bit of cheese and DEEP FRIED the same soft tacos. I realized they were not going to make the correct tacos and I'd already paid, so I ate them. But they were greasy and tasted like it. It was packed so ordering was rushed and didn't really notice much as we were consumed with finding a seat to enjoy our food. Food and service were decent. The TV was on and didn't really notice until started hearing things that seemed controversial, so I started paying attention and it didn't take long to see they had it on a Ted Nugent talk show with commercials showing that the Charlie Kirk show was coming next. The lengua was so delicious, it was tender and tasted like made fresh!! For the carne asada, one thing about me is I do not like dry food so this did not let me down!! It was flavorful and meaty. We decided to try this place based on a recommendation we found on Instagram, and it did not disappoint! I ordered three Keto tacos: one fish, one carnitas, and one lengua. Each one was absolutely delicious--huge, filling, and bursting with flavor! I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied. I also paired my tacos with two spicy salsas: one orange and one red, both of which added an amazing kick. The Keto option was perfect for me as I'm working on my weight loss journey. My partner enjoyed four tacos, all served on regular tortillas. He went for one fish, one El Jefe, one OMG taco, and one Gobernador, and he was just as full as I was! He paired his tacos with two different green salsas, both spicy and mild, which he loved. My son savored his two asada tacos and cleaned his plate completely--he definitely enjoyed his meal! I was looking for another spot for my occasional 'Taco Tuesday' craving and decided to give El Jeve a try. The tacos were $1.59 on Tues but only a few types of tacos had the deal. I ended up getting the carne asada and Al pastor tacos. Both meats had good flavors on their own but I do tend to add a lot of toppings if I could. They do pack a decent amount of meat in each taco. The salsa bar is excellent as there are several kinds of salsa to choose from along with chopped onions n cilantro, lemon wedges, pickled carrots, pickled onions, sliced cucumbers, sliced radishes, etc. There were many people on the couple Tuesdays I went so there will be a wait. We had: street tacos (lengua-yummy, carnitas-yummy, & asada-yummy). Cheese was grilled on the outer corn tortilla shell. Good, crunchy, but was a bit too gamey for me. No cheese next time. Others had: asada street tacos, cheese quesadilla, carnitas tacos. We left happy & full. 1/24: Second visit- ordered Wet asada burrito-huge and yummy. 3 asada street tacos-yummy & VERY generous with asada. Since it was Sunday, they had Menudo. LOTS of tripe, NO homeny, good flavor, side of 5 tortillas & for $14, a real bargain. Ok, miss piggy specifically asked the guy how large was the serving. Probably saw a short Asian lady thinking I don't eat much. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!! It was approx. 2 cups? Which is amble for your average appetite... I always get the papa jefe here and the food is great. But one complaint I have is they are always so stingy when it comes to the salsa bar. I usually do mobile order pickup and it very hit or miss if they include onions or cucumbers from the salsa bar. Today when I picked up my order, then was going to the salsa bar just to grab some white onions and cucumber and the cashier stopped me and told me he put it in the bag already. Through the bag I could only see the red pickled onions & some salsa and asked if it was okay I grab some white onions and he just kept saying he put it in the bag and asked me to open and check. I felt super comfortable, so I just left without checking. Went home and opened the bag, no white onions, just red onions and salsa. I understand times are hard right now and I'm sure people have abused the salsa bar in the past, but to make me feel like I was some type of free loader, didn't make me want to come back even though the food is good. The staff here are friendly and nice and they greet you when you come in and the overall atmosphere gives off a mom and pop restaurant vibe with a bright and colorful decor. We ordered a plethora of tacos which included beef tacos dorado, quesa tacos, & taco el jefe and all of them were delicious! The beef was so tender and flavorful and not dry at all. The salsas had a good quick to them and complimented the meat well. I tried my friend's goat birria taco and that was some of the best goat meat I've ever had at a taco shop! The taco jefe was absolutely delicious with the shrimp having a great seasoning and spice and working well with the beef. All the tortillas were fresh and soft and they fill up your tacos with meat! My only criticism is that prices are not shown on the menu when you order and you don't know the price per taco until you get the bill and our total was around $70 with 3 mexican cokes which I thought was a bit high for the amount of food we ordered. The service here was great though and I liked how the staff answered any questions we had and we had no issues whatsoever. I would say come and check out this spot if you are a fan of tacos especially birria tacos! I wanted to like this spot because the location has a fun vibe with the free arcade area ,but the experience didn't live up to expectations. I ordered a custom burrito with lettuce, cheese, and pico de gallo, which was an extra $2 upcharge on top of the $13 burrito. I had placed my order about 20 minutes before arriving, but when I got there, they made things confusing by adding extra charges and making the process feel more complicated than it needed to be. When I checked in and gave them my name, they rang me up and had me wait another 20 minutes, only for me to realize that my food had been sitting in the window the whole time. I politely asked if they could remake it since it had been sitting there for over 15 minutes because that's just not acceptable when you're paying that kind of price. It just felt skeptical after that when my order was ready in less than a few minutes. Unfortunately, the flavor and quality of the burrito were also subpar, and the value didn't match the price tag. The service could really use improvement in communication and how they handle pickup orders customers shouldn't have to remind the staff that their food is ready. The area itself is cool and has potential, but the overall experience just wasn't pleasant.
