We've enjoyed everything every single time, but today we only had our absolute favorite items: string beans, golden noodle soup, spicy wontons and pan-fried dumplings (which I did not get a pic of so sorry) . Ordering is straightforward using the paper checklist and pen. We came for a quick meal and ironically skipped the dumplings entirely because other dishes caught our eye. The beef roll was the standout of the meal (5/5). The scallion pancake was blistered, flaky, and exceptionally crispy, wrapped around flavorful beef, crisp veggies, and a well-balanced, slightly sweet sauce. It is easily one of the best beef rolls I have had. The stir-fried string beans (4/5) were also great. While not quite at Din Tai Fung level, they were fresh, crisp, and packed with savory umami from the fermented black beans and garlic. The braised beef noodle soup (3/5) was the only letdown. I have to say that the pan fried dumplings photos on Yelp really intrigued me to try this place out. We came and the place was pretty crowded but we managed to get a table. We ordered scallion pancakes (good), garlic pork ribs (very good - highly recommend), and beef noodles (very good - highly recommend). We also ordered the pan fried dumplings (the only thing I came here for) and they forgot our order! We had to remind them and the waitress lied and said it's just taking about 2 more mins. She never told us they had forgot about our order. 10 minutes later another waiter came to tell us that it would take a long time and if we wanted it still? (He didn't even let us know how long it would take). I indeed still wanted it but the approach to me was just rude. No apologies but just a simple : do you still want it or not? I said no and asked for the check. I felt like they were not accomodating to offer us other quicker options nor felt sympathetic that this had happened to us. The Spare Ribs with Mashed Garlic had a bold garlic flavor that paired well with the tender pork. If you're a garlic lover, this is definitely worth ordering. The meat was very bony so make sure to be careful! The garlic added a lot of flavor without completely overpowering the meat. The Shrimp Fried Rice was a solid side dish that complemented everything else we ordered. The rice had a nice wok flavor, wasn't greasy, and came with a generous amount of shrimp. A surprising must order was the Cucumber Salad which was light, refreshing, and crunchy. Lot of the other foods were on the oily end, so having a refreshing cucumber salad definitely hit the spot. Came here on a Friday night with a few friends. It was a bit crowded, but we were able to put our names down on the waitlist up at the front. We probably waiting about 30 minutes or so and was finally called to get seated. Overall, we had a really great experience. Went here after church. It was a full house. Ordered all the food shown. Taste is always consistent. I have a problem with restaurants to have recommendations of what percentages to tip. I have no problem giving 20% tip for great service. This place doesn't really do much other than bring out the food. They leave the water so that we can fill up our own and never really check in on us otherwise. The reason for the three star is a shady Business practices. Look at my receipt and those amounts are based on the total including tip. We all know that tipping should be based on the food and beverage and not including tax cause that just insulates the bill. The music and vibes in the background overall are also really nice and I'll definitely be back! Update: I was disappointed to be charged for another table's bill when I gave my card to be charged for my own. I waited a while for my card to be returned and my phone notified me of another (incorrect) charge after mine. The employee who told me about it wasn't apologetic and didn't explain what happened. Parking was easy, the setting felt warm and cozy, and our server was genuinely friendly. Bonus points for the metal carafes of cold water. It's a small touch, but it's so nice. Also, our food came out fast and hot, which matters. Now, the star of the order: the beef roll. They have a good variety of dishes, including stir-fried items, dumplings, rice, and noodles. Their juicy pork dumplings are frequently ordered, so I had to try these! They were good and had a decent amount of soup inside! We also got the Pork and Corn Pan-Fried Dumplings which has a really nice crispy skirt attached to it. This one of fun to eat and comes with a sauce for dipping. The Dan Dan Noodles were flavorful and not overly spicy but does have a little kick. A newer item on the menu is their Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs. The sauce was yummy! These come with the bone in, so be careful when eating them. I almost always order a String Bean dish whenever I get Chinese food, and these had a little crunch without being too soggy. For appetizers, the spring rolls were good, and the Potato String Shrimp were unique! I haven't had shrimp presented like this before! XLB here is GREAT omg. Soup, meat: perfectly seasoned. Wrapper: delicious, chewy, and doesn't tear! I ordered pickup at their HB location. I'd NEVER recommend ordering xlb anywhere as takeout but I was craving it close to closing time. It held up SO well compared to other places that offer XLB for pickup. I ordered a second time at Cypress to hope it wasn't a fluke (and also bc it was genuinely good), and it wasn't! What this small chain does, that SO many don't do especially for takeout, is that here they thoughtfully ensure the broth isn't super piping hot. Because of this, the wrapper remains chewy + when you bite into it, the soup is there instead of being completely wet and soaked up by the wrapper. Other notes: For takeout they give you chopsticks, napkins and vinegar - so remember to ask for chili oil & ginger if you expect those! read more
