    Bomb filling

These rice balls are huge. Rice to filling ratio may be a bit off, heavy on rice. I would definitely come back. I love fresh made onigiri . The staff odd so friendly and it's fun watching them make it. The Bomb one is a must try!

First off, isn't the name misspelled? Shouldn't it be Omusubi and not Omubusi? Whatever. I've come here about 4-5x now and each time the rice balls have been good. The rice is slightly sticky with a nice chew to it and tends to hold up well as an onigiri. I think the filling in the onigiri is fair. Onigiri itself is not supposed to be overpacked with fillings. Whatever filling is used it is supposed to just enhance the rice itself. They range in price from $2.50 to $4.80 each. Service was quick, easy n friendly. If they were out a particular flavor then ask them and they may make new ones just for you. They also offer karaage chicken n miso soup. Located inside the new Mitsuwa market in the food court. The place is take-out only but they have shared tables and chairs area so grab yourself a seat there.

Top left clockwise is Eel, Shrimp Tempura, Oyster, Tuna Mayo, and my son ate the Konbu before i could take the picture.

Located inside the new Mitsua marketplace in the city of Cypress, this food stall offers premade and fresh onigiri and musubi's. They sell similar onigiri's inside the matrket, however these are fresh and not refrigerated. I bought a few to try like the Tuna Mayo, Eel, Shrimp Tempura, Oysters, and Konbu (seaweed). As they were fresh making the rice nice and soft and sticky, the onigiri's lacked flavor. No seasoning or sauce to bring out some flavor. The prices here were slightly higher compared to inside the grocery store and the seaweed was soggy and could not hold a crunch. The ones in the grocery store, the nori is wrapped separately so it's fresh and crispy. I think next time I'll buy one from here and one from the grocery store and do a side by side comparison.

I was thinking of what I wanted for a quick bite to eat while running errands, and immediately pivoted to this place. The rice balls were fresh and the filling was enough to get you by. Cheap and definitely gets you satisfied

Whether it's a few for on-the-go or a whole assortment for a explorative meal, rice balls make the perfect bite-sized eats. The famed Omusubi Gonbei has come to OC! They're located within the food court at the new Mitsuwa in Cypress. They're fast, efficient, and boast a wide variety of rice balls. Fish, meats, veggies, brown vs. white rice - they've got it all covered! I went with the Curry & Edamame, Takana (Pickled Mustard Greens), and Spicy Chicken. Not a single miss. My personal favorite had to be the Curry & Edamame. A really pleasant change if you're in the mood for a flavor-packed rice ball. One minor note, I wish the filling-to-rice ratio was a bit more balanced, but other than that, no complaints! Be sure to grab a handheld snack here before you peruse around the new market.

    1. The musubis and Karaage chicken were good! I really like the chicken! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes! It is part of a food court! 3. The staff was friendly and timely with my order! It was ready in about 5 mins! 4. There are only indoor seatings! Seating can get crowded depending on time and day! 5. Parking lot is huge! Spots are single-lined! Note: There is a restroom available for customers! Photo: Musubi and Karaage

Perfect for an on-the-go snack or meal, these omusubi are priced right for trying a few at a time. So far I've had: Grilled Eel: Really good. That eel sauce always hits the spot. Kombu: Tasty and holds up well for eating later. Shiso: Wasn't my favorite. Chashu Pork: Tasty! Fried Oyster: Needed a little something extra. Shrimp Tempura: Can't go wrong with shrimp tempura. Eat this one while fresh. If you can't eat them all in one go, keep them refrigerated for a day or so and then heat for about 30 seconds in a microwave (probably less time if you have a higher powered microwave).

Not too busy place and they get your order right away. Very casual stall in a newly opened Mitsuwa. Their variety of flavors drew me in, but the onigiri itself did not hit the spot. I tried the fried oyster onigiri, and it did not seem very fresh but rather room temp. The fried oyster had zero crispiness and the rice itself seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. Their karage chicken was okay not very memorable. While it's fairly priced, I wouldn't recommend this Omusubi Gonbei unless you plan to reheat the food yourself.

Can't go wrong with omusubi inside Mitsuwa! Solid option without the wait. They have a wide variety of options! We had the salmon, tuna, bomb, and CMT. Parking was okay, didn't have too much trouble on a weeknight. Tables are limited, most likely because it's a new Mitsuwa. Would definitely stop by again.

No meat in the masubi. Not worth it. Took a big bite from the top and it was ALL RICE. Thankfully the one ounce of meat was only 3.80.

I've been wanting to check this spot ever since my brother showed me photos from his visit at the new Mitsuwa in Cypress. They have a lot of options of omusubi and onigiri and if I had the appetite to try one of each in one sitting, I would. They also sell karaage too, and it's pretty decent. The filling to rice ratio in my opinion could be better. Overall, it's a good spot for a snack! Hope management at Mitsuwa can work together with the food court restaurants to control the fly problem though.

Agree with those who thought the rolls had way too much rice versus filling. For the prices, I was hoping for a bit more filling. The salmon was the only one that had sufficient filling. Service was fine, order & cashier gets the rolls that are continuously made by several workers behind the counter. Just have to worry whether they are sold quick enough to make sure no food poisoning happens. Pretty noisy but also plenty of seating. Parking is shared with a busy gym so peak times may be a bit longer to find a spot.

The Food: Tons of tasty omusubi and onigiri treats! So many options to choose from! My kids were in awe! :) The Service: Friendly and efficient, which is good as the line was consistently out the door the entire time we were there. Everyone in Cypress is happy to have a proper Japanese store and eatery here. ;) The ambiance: Clean and new, a good amount of seating in single, dual, and quad seating options. Again, this is good as the place is packed to the gills. One tragic thing is that this place is next to the race track, so the fly situation is kinda wild; hopefully something can be done about that going forward, but do not let this discourage you, the omusubi are tasty and can be eaten on the go!

I know that many other fellow Yelp members complain that this location is rather small but honestly, if they want to see a small Mitsuwa Market, they should visit the one in San Gabriel. That one is very small and has no food court. Anyways, my husband and I decided to visit this Mitsuwa Marketplace two Saturdays ago since we were out in Orange County. We wanted to pick up some groceries before heading back home to the San Gabriel Valley since this was kind of on the way home. In general, Mitsuwa typically seems to be more expensive than Tokyo Central (the Japanese market I frequent most often back home), often times $1-4 more for items. But that doesn't really bother me, as Mitsuwa sometimes will have different or more selection than Tokyo Central for certain items as well. I like to shop at both markets equally. We ended up purchasing a few items. After we finished paying for those groceries, we walked over to the food court to see what eateries and vendors are available. We ended up getting some onigiri at Omusubi Gonbei and decided to enjoy our rice balls here since there is such a large space of seating. Even though this market is smaller than some of their other locations, I would frequent this location if I still lived out here in Cypress.

I ordered the karaage with curry. The food came out hot and fresh, which was a plus. The curry itself was pleasant, leaning a bit on the sweeter side. The karaage had a light batter and was fried nicely the chicken was juicy and paired well with the curry. Overall, while the food was enjoyable, I'd still prefer going to the Costa Mesa location because it offers more variety when it comes to food.

There was only one server and what it appeared to be one person in the kitchen. I ordered: - Combo A (Chicken Teriyaki with a choice of Gyoza or Cali Roll): I replaced the rice with extra salad. The salad came with a neon pink dressing that was a bit sweet. The salad wasn't properly dried, unfortunately, as there was a pool of water at the bottom. Though some pieces of the chicken was a bit dry, the bed of cabbage underneath soaked up some of the juices and glaze, compensating for the lack of moisture. The Cali Roll was packed and a solid side to the meal. - Rainbow Roll: Though it had large cuts of fish, it unfortunately was not the freshest I've tasted, and also not very tightly rolled. - Crunch Philadelphia Roll: Though not as tightly rolled (it fell apart slightly when I tried picking up a piece), I appreciate that they didn't skimp on the cream cheese. My favorite sushi so far from the 3. The food was prepared quickly, and everything totaled about $42-45, which I thought was reasonable. They have a few minor things to improve upon, but I can see this being a place college students can get food to-go between classes or even shopping patrons dining at for a decent meal.

These are the sort of eateries I seek out when I go to Japan as they are affordable, filling, and satisfying. Just as they do in Japan, they have a large display case on the wall which is filled with a couple dozen realistic plastic displays of the various plates they offer. It makes it easy to see what you'll be getting and helps me make a decision. I was there for a late lunch and ordered the pork katsu curry plate and also, for an additional fee, added an omelette on top of the rice (omu-curry). I was given a pager by the friendly fellow at the counter and my meal was made in less than ten minutes. I sat and ate in the clean, comfortable food court. The pork was good quality, very tender, with a crunchy panko coating. The rice was done perfectly and the omelette on top was delicious with a buttery taste and soft texture. I loved the curry; it had excellent flavor and complemented the pork well. There were also some slices of hard-boiled egg and some bits of radish on the plate as well as a cabbage salad. My single complaint is that the salad had no dressing so was rather "blah" compared to everything else. I call these places fast-food katsu. They are all over Japan. Not as fancy as high-end katsu restaurants, where the pigs have been massaged daily before becoming tonkatsu, but satisfying comfort-food versions. To this end, this place delivers flawlessly.
