    Nice to.go Packages
    Cindy O.

Tokyo Shokudo is located inside the new Mitsuwa Marketplace. It is one of the three food vendors currently open (a fourth vendor is coming soon). I chose this one to try out for the first time. There is a Katsu/Curry vendor in the Torrance Mitsuwa that I love and was expecting the same quality but very disappointed! I should have read the reviews first! Service was okay and they have a nice system with pagers. There were very few of us ordering (around 1030am on a weekday) so it didn't take very long for my order. I ordered two plates to go. Pork Katsu with Spicy Curry and Chicken Karaage. The Katsu was very good but the spicy curry had no kick to it (and they changed an extra $1 for spicy). Not sure if they mixed up and gave me regular vs spicy? Bland and disappointing! In addition, I had to explain to the staff at the order counter that I wanted the Curry on the side (it was a to go order). Then the staff kindly explained that it comes on the plate. I told her I did not want the Katsu to get soggy. I asked the same of the Karrage Chicken plate and this time she didn't question it. Seems to me for a to go order vs dine in that woukd be the expectation. The Karrage Chicken was almost inedible. Nothing crispy about it and defithe worse I have had. You can see in the photos, it looks anemic. Texture was more like flour. I can only guess they floured and forgot to coat (Panko breading) before frying. I definitely do not recommend Tokyo Shokudo. There are a lot of great Curry places in the area. In addition, their prices are way too high with low quality! I won't be back!

    Eel egg unatama

The eel egg unatama was very good. Just enough for one meal, I had been hoping to maybe make two servings out of it. Good flavor and texture. A little pricey for a single take-out meal so I wouldn't get it often, but as an occasional treat it's nice.

I love fish so when I saw this on the menu, I had to order it. $19 and I was disappointed It's located inside the marketplace and during lunch. It's incredibly busy. The fish itself was very fresh and tasty. No Ponzi sauce dipping like usually it has with any mackerel piece and the miso soup taste better made by my 10-year-old nephew. Needless to say for the $19 I would not come back. I don't think it's worth the price tag. And not even a water cup for your customers.

Long wait. Super busy and no seats at the food court. Recommend to do to go and order first then do groceries. Had enough time to grocery shop and after ordering and order still not ready for togo order. They dont have enough devices to take too many orders. So i waiting longer. Total wait around 30 mins but they were packed on a weekend. Food is recommended. Its good. Friendly staff.

New location located inside Mitsuwa. Solid options: curry, donburi, etc. Line was quite long since this is a new Mitsuwa but would come again once the hype dies down. A little on the pricey side for the portion size. Parking was fine on a weeknight, you might have a hard time finding a table. FYI - closing hours may vary, the last customer ordered at 730 tonight (not 830 as indicated on the website).

    Pork cutlet curry
    Jeesoun S.

I found curry and cutlet udon restaurant inside Mitsuwa marketplace Cypress. Today is the grand opening day here. So many people ordered, waiting, and waiting....at the food court. I know this is the chain restaurant. Wondering if the cutlet, udon is that great or not. I ordered pork cutlet curry w medium spiciness and Nikutama udon w beef, eggs. First, I have to tell about the cutlet size. So mini, only 4 pieces. My hubby can't share the cutlet w me. That small portion when we got the cutlet. Curry sauce was good, rice is well cooked. I was dissapointed about the portion, paid $16.50. My nikutama udon was 5 stars. The broth is rich, flavorful, noodles are so chewy, and beef is so tender. That is exactly udon I want to eat all the time. The service time is way too long. I tried to understand due to the grand opening but still way too long over 30 mins to wait and pick up the foods after we odered. We checked twice if our order were ready to pick up. One more critical thing, too many flies are inside food court, everywhere, entrance. especially in the kitchen area as well as the menu display. I saw one fly got stuck in the display. I was so tired so I didn't say anything. I just picked up the foods, eat, and wanted to leave as soon as I finished my foods. Why so many flies here....really bothered us a lot when we finally got the foods. They were crazy. We covered the foods w napkins and one hand everytime we ate. Why not raise the price and make the cutlet portion bigger like other cutlet curry restaurants. We were still not full. We left still empty today even thou we waited for over 2 hours outside to get in the market. My hubby rushed to leave. Get out of here. We can't buy any. We had too much expectation for the grand opening????

I ordered the chicken teryaki at a place known for curry so this may have not been my best choice from the menu. However, this plate was not good. A few pieces of the chicken were red and veiny. The best part was the rice. Surprisingly one of the best tasting sides of white rice Ive EVER had. Also, the price point was under. $18+ for a plate in Cypress is more that what I expected. The service was great. Quick and easy ordering.

    Tempura shrimp?
    Michael T.

Is this a Tempura shrimp or corn dog? I thought I ordered the shrimp tempura. The breading is way too thick and the curry is kind of water down. I was excited to try their restaurant but I guess I won't be back.

    pork katsu ni-curry
    Brian Q.

I tried the pork katsu ni-curry and really enjoyed it! The curry was just the right level of spice for me, the pork was tender, and the texture of the egg and onions is really nice. If you plan on shopping in the marketplace, I'd recommend ordering this ahead of time and coming back if you see a long wait. You can also do an online order to if you're just coming to pick up, so that should save some time.

    Tammy N.

Delicious and flavorful. Packed seating due to the way the marketplace is set up but overall well worth the trip. The young gentleman (forgot his name) taking orders was VERY NICE- informative and patient with the chaotic crowd.

    Pork Katsu Curry
    Michael U.

Tried the pork katsu curry and it was solid! The curry had nice depth and the katsu was crispy and tender. Service was great and getting our food didn't take too long. However, it is super crowded inside the food court since there are limited tables. Hard to find a seat and long lines. There's also a lot of flies inside the food court and it can be very bothersome for people who want to enjoy their meal.

    Attractive design, bad cleanliness
    Adhi T.

My coworkers and I lined up at Tokyo Shokudo on Day 4 of the shops at Mitsuwa Cypress operating. We got there early on a Tuesday around 11:30. The line was not long but the wait to the cashier felt long. The menu is extensive and a bit expensive compared to stalls at Mitsuwa Costa Mesa (think Miyabi-tei or Don Don Tei). We got a beeper and as soon as we sat down, we realized the seating area at the food court was filled with flies. Seems like the store doesn't have any fly management. The kitchen and serving window at this stall is also not spared from the wrath of the flies. It's mildly disgusting. Food came out within 15 mins and it was just ok. I liked my curry but the portion and taste of the cutlet was unimpressive. I would probably come back but not during lunch hour. Overall it was not a great experience. Please get a handle on your flies situation. I surmised the surrounding parking lot full of trees that somehow attract flies as I saw them outside as well on a relatively cool November afternoon. Food Cleanliness I'm giving them a generous review rating hoping they who improve over time with more training and going up the learning curve ... Good luck.

Display bowl compared to actual bowl
    Eric H.

The food was good; it wasn't bad. Plain, which is fine. Disappointing to get the bowl I did (see photo) compared to the display bowl. The little side of potato salad was three small chunks of potato. Small sides are a thing with Japanese food, I understand, so not terrible. What makes all this not worth it - the price. Just under $20! $17.49 plus tax. That is an absurd price for what was delivered. If it was amazing, a gem, super special, then I wouldn't feel as cheated. Two stars because the food itself is fine. Plain fare but fine. But the value is not there.

I know that many other fellow Yelp members complain that this location is rather small but honestly, if they want to see a small Mitsuwa Market, they should visit the one in San Gabriel. That one is very small and has no food court. Anyways, my husband and I decided to visit this Mitsuwa Marketplace two Saturdays ago since we were out in Orange County. We wanted to pick up some groceries before heading back home to the San Gabriel Valley since this was kind of on the way home. In general, Mitsuwa typically seems to be more expensive than Tokyo Central (the Japanese market I frequent most often back home), often times $1-4 more for items. But that doesn't really bother me, as Mitsuwa sometimes will have different or more selection than Tokyo Central for certain items as well. I like to shop at both markets equally. We ended up purchasing a few items. After we finished paying for those groceries, we walked over to the food court to see what eateries and vendors are available. We ended up getting some onigiri at Omusubi Gonbei and decided to enjoy our rice balls here since there is such a large space of seating. Even though this market is smaller than some of their other locations, I would frequent this location if I still lived out here in Cypress.

Overall, while the food was enjoyable, I'd still prefer going to the Costa Mesa location because it offers more variety when it comes to food.

We came the last hour of closing and there was still a couple of tables eating inside still. We ended up ordering the premium gyu katsu set along with the curry pork cutlet set that comes with rice and sides along with some beer. The drinks and food came out fairly quick and were steaming hot. I like that the curry came on the side so the pork cutlet wouldn't get soggy and you could pour over as much as you want over the cutlets. The veggie sides were a nice touch and complemented the meal well. The gyu katsu didn't taste like Japan to us, but it was still good especially with the wasabi and sweet soy sauce that came with it. If I came back here, I would give the beef tongue a try along with the creamy udon because those also seemed like a favorite for customers. Service here was friendly and we were checked up on multiple times without having to flag someone down.
