Came here for breakfast on a Wednesday. We ordered inside and then sat down at our table outside on the dog friendly patio. I got the avocado toast, it came with seeds on it and I cannot have seeds so I scrapped them off. I don't remember seeing that seeds were included on the toast when I saw it on the menu. The toast was alright, nothing special that's for sure. My boyfriend got the spicy breakfast sandwich and he said he loved it. All of the seats are outside, some with an ocean view. The breakfast place my husband had picked was closed today (Monday). So we drove into Carlsbad Village and found Elysa's. It was perfect. It is all outdoor seating, right across from the State Beach. We found a table by the fire pit. You place your order and pay inside, and tgey bring the food orders out. My husband ordered the Hwy 101 omelette, and I had a spinach, egg, & cheese breakfast sandwich. There are beautiful flowers along the sidewalk, and plenty of opportunities for people-watching. Yelpers come through again! I had a business meeting in Oceanside and stayed in Carlsbad overnight. Since hotel coffee is simply not for me I turned to Yelp and found Cafe Elysa. It was steps from my hotel. Great place to get coffee, and to sit down and enjoy it. It smells amazing inside with so many pastries to choose from. Cafe Elysa is quite easy to find on Carlsbad Blvd., and it's conveniently located near all the rest of the action in Carlsbad Village. If you're looking for breakfast and/or a quick coffee break, you don't have to venture far to land here. For my breakfast last Saturday, I ordered the mushroom omelette with hash browns and a mocha. Their mocha was at least as good as any standard Starbucks or Coffee Bean mocha, and the omelette featured a well-cooked layer of egg to hold in the mushrooms and cheese inside. They offered a generous serving of hash browns, and I tend to be a sucker for hash browns. While there might be a few more interesting options for breakfast in and around Carlsbad Village, it's not always feasible to hunt those places down. If you just need breakfast and want to stay put in the village, you probably can't go wrong at Cafe Elysa. read more

The positive: Reasonable prices make it a good local business to support rather than the Starbucks down the street. Both are cafes two blocks away from Carlsbad state beach. Café Elysa provides are more ample food menu for breakfast and lunch compared to Starbucks. However, Café Elysa can lack in speed when it comes to making espresso-based drinks. I have noticed that the drip coffees and even the food come out faster than a simple cappuccino. I unfortunately do not like the taste of their drip coffee. Yet, their espresso is definitely better than Starbucks. There are no gluten free pastries. Thankfully, "The Goods" is a nearby walk for gluten free donuts. Customer service is ok, could be better. Maybe this place is better known for their food rather than their coffee? Next time I will opt for an avocado toast. read more

This is a nice little cafe just off the main drag in Carlsbad and within walking distance of the beach. I liked the patio, which had a nice ocean breeze flowing through it. There was one gentleman drinking coffee and reading a newspaper, another couple having breakfast together, a woman who looked to be studying and me, a guy who was enjoying a breakfast sandwich and watching the world unfold around him. It was a great place to sit, relax and let life slow down. It's dog friendly too. The menu isn't super fancy. Traditional breakfast options are available in the mornin. Burgers, sandwiches and salads as the day moves along. My sausage and egg croissant hit the spot. read more

It was good but lacked a little in flavor. Patio is beautiful, amazing ambience. I ordered the brunch burger with avocado and my husband ordered eggs Benedict. I cut my burger in half and it looked amazing, however the taste just didn't match. The patty and the hashbrowns had no seasoning whatsoever. I had to ask for both hot sauce and ketchup to make up for the lack of salt. My husband said his eggs Benedict was basic but was great and the hashbrowns were perfectly crispy. We also got the honey cinnamon lattes and they were really really good! Only thing was once you get to the bottom, you may get a drink full of cinnamon which can be rough. Definitely will stop by again and try something else on the menu! read more

The bakery has great options that are constantly tempting and the menu itself has a great range of options. We went here on a Sunday for brunch. A family friend had recommended this place. There was a line that led outside the building but it went at a relatively decent pace. I ordered the Matcha with soy milk and banana nut waffle. My husband ordered a Hawaiian hazelnut coffee and an omelette with hash brown. The waffle was tasty, not too sweet but it was thinner and smaller than what I had expected. I did not use the syrup since the sweetness was just right for me. The Matcha soy milk drink was delicious but there was still a few bits of Matcha that needed to be mixed. My husband enjoyed his omelette and hash brown.
