We were a party of five and we were celebrating a friend's birthday. This place is beautiful. Its ambiance is nice so is the decor. The food was fabulous. I had a split pea soup and the shrimp with risotto. As for the service...well that's another story. Our waitress took the drink order, then the food order then came one other time. She was behind the bar and was taking care of the three small tables in front of the bar and ours. When we asked for additional bread she told us you still have one there and walked away. We were never able to ask for salt or pepper or additional drinks or water, or even tell her how the food was because she was not attentive to our table. Basically she wasn't around. We had to flag someone down to bring us our desserts. The desserts sat so long for her to deliver that the ice cream was melted. I did notice her giving the other tables plenty of attention but not ours. This is not the service I'm use to getting here. This place has always been on point with service. I was one of about 20 who had lunch at Catula, for a business party. We were seated in one long row of tables right after opening. Service was very good. Our server, Yordis, was excellent. My partner ordered sangria for the group, and Yordis asked each party member if they would like some, and she brought the appropriate number of pitchers and glasses. During the meal ordering, her tablet apparently failed, but she quickly switched to paper and pen and took all of our orders. My partner and I each had the Scallops Risotto, which was on the Lunch Menu, which came with a salad and crèpe, for $30. All were very good. Valet parking was available, for no charge, but of course tips are appreciated. The valet was great. Professional and friendly. I'd like to go back some time soon. One gripe was that in the men's room, all 3 automatic soap dispensers were empty, and one paper towel dispenser was OTS. But it was a very good experience, and our large group was very happy with our choice of restaurants for our party. read more

Today our next food adventure dinner time we going to Cafe Catula located in Miami, this restaurant mixing two traditional cuisines, Spanish and Italian with a Latin touch in some of it's desserts. The decoration of the place is partly a gallery to exhibit sculptures created by the artist Uldis Lopez and paintings made by different painters such as Jose Chiu and Miguel Leiva, each work is striking in view of those who visit the place. The customer service was fast and the food too, the taste of each dish was exquisite, we ordered chicken, fish and meat and each one of them was made by someone who is passionate about their profession. For such a commercialized location, this place turned out to be a great experience. They did their best to upscale the location with valet parking and tiki torches leading to the front door. Once in there's catchy artwork on the walls and even a few sculptures. I've now been there twice and I can honestly say just about everything we tried (they have a fairly large menu) was exceptional. Octopus, clam linguine, duck, Chimichurri, etc, etc. Last but not least, even the service was professional, and friendly. This place is obviously owned and run by seasoned professionals. Food was so good! The croquetas, sausage, and salmon carpaccio were all delicious. I ordered the snapper with the sauce on the side and it was incredible! It was a yellow eye snapper with the skin in a pan then baked. The risottos were a hit (mushroom and shrimp). The flan with guava and cream cheese was delicious and so was the chocolate crepe. Went to celebrate a little grad lunch and the food was delicious! The portions are also extremely generous for lunch time. They have special menus which you can get 3 courses for about $30 per person which I think is a wonderful deal based on the service, food, and portions I was given! The masitas risotto was very yummy and was my first time ever trying risotto. I am also a big fan of dessert, the Nutella crepe was mouth weathering! Recently tried Café Catula -had been there a few years back and was not too impressed. But during these weird Covid times we noticed that they had a little outdoor area set up and decided to try it again. We had appetizers and desserts and our waiter was extremely cool; the service was exceptional the food was delicious- every single dish was cooked to perfection but we came back a week later and had a lady waiter that was not as helpful and I was not that impressed. For me, consistency is important and sometimes, I'm reluctant to go back to a restaurant When the situation and service is unpredictable. I did not get a chance to take a picture of the appetizers but they were pretty delicious. Warm shrimp on crunchy, fried, Tostones in a lobster, cheese sauce. It was quite good. For the entree I can only talk about the churrasco because it's all we got haha (I know, we're boring). And for dessert, we tried the tres guayaba and the crepe. Also super super delicious. 4 stars only because service was lacking a bit (they were very friendly and welcome but a little slow and we had to ask for drinks and refills). Amazing- the vibe is nice it is like a small gallery. Just don't let them sit you in the corner of the room. Ask for main area. The food was exquisite and everything they brought us was great. We had the oysters fresh as well as Rockefeller. The lychee martini is awesome. Then we tried the Miami spice menu which included appetizers and dinner and dessert. Everything was great I had the beef carpaccio for appetizer and red snapper for main. Which I had to pack up as we made the mistake of ordering so many oysters. But everything was well worth it. It's been a few years since I've been to Cafe Catula located right off 87ave and sunset drive. It's in a rather unique location and is in a somewhat small art gallery like venue. The place is charming, they had someone playing live piano which was a great touch. We went on a Friday night. Please note this is somewhat of an older crowd but not a place where my single friend and I in our early 40's felt uncomfortable. Service is good but what I liked most about this place was the food!!! I took advantage of the Miami SpIce Menu which, by far, was the best offering out of my Miami Spice experiences this year. What we ordered: Crab cakes Yuquitas rellenas de camerons Sunset snapper Corvina aragosta Catula coconut flan and Dulce de leche crepe with ice cream EVERYTHING, yes EVERYTHING was delicious! We left nothing on our generous portioned sized plates. We even ate the yummy mixed veggies that were the offered sides to our main entree dishes. They also have a decent selection of wines. If you haven't checked out this hidden gem, please do, you won't be disappointed. Had a dinner birthday celebration for my husband. We were eight and ordered from the $39 menu which included an appetizer, main course, dessert and a glass of wine. We had the salmon aragosta, salmon a la pera. risotto di masitas, risotto di gambier I, vacío and a Nutella crepe and tres guayabas for dessert. The food was plentiful and well presented, the flavors were excellent. Eric our waiter went above and beyond to make sure we were having a great dinner. One caveat though there was no one playing the piano and on the daily specials it said we would receive a $30 gift card and that did not happen. They contacted the manager and we were informed that they were no longer having these specials featured online. It would have been nice if they had honored the advertisement since it was not taken down. This is the reason I deducted from the perfect score. read more

I decided to give a chance to this restaurant as I never went there but I heard very good comments about it and after two visits to café Catula, I went like wow. Delicious food, super quiet, attentive staff, also if you need something they're always walking through and asking you about if you need anything else, very good customer service on the restaurant area. I've never walked out of a restaurant before today. We were a table of 3, and after waiting 25 minutes at our table with no one coming to even ask what we want to drink we got up. Then all of a sudden the waiter comes and says oh im by myself and there's a large table. Oh well...it's your job. Came here for the first time to celebrate our 29th anniversary. Made the reservation through open table. We arrived right on time and were seated right away. Ordered the Octopus as an appetizer and it was awesome. It was served in a garlic sauce over a tostone. Soooo good. My wife had the scallop risotto. To quote her, it was "ah-maze-ing." I tried it and have to agree. I had the risotto di mare. It was fantastic. Loaded with clams, muscles, shrimp and fish. A great choice. We had a great bottle of the house cab (from Argentina), which was also delicious. Our waiter was extremely helpful with suggestions. Service was on point without being annoying. Debated between 3 and 4 stars for this restaurant, but the service and overall environment pushed it to a 4. We visited early Tuesday evening and consisted of 3- 2 adults and 1 small child. For those of you who are wondering if this restaurant is suitable to bring kids to, the answer is yes, if they are well behaved. Some highlights from our visit: - Decor and ambiance - nicely decorated and very modern. Both the interior and exterior areas had sufficient seating and felt trendy, classy and clean. There's some artwork in the entrance including bronzes and some paintings. - Service - staff were professional, polite and friendly. We were immediately greeted and consistently attended to throughout our visit. Perhaps it helped that we were the only table present at that time of day ( early evening). - Food - Latin fusion, slightly underwhelming but not bad. The three course menu special we ordered from consisted of a sufficient variety of offerings and a large serving of wine. For that price, it was acceptable , but had I been ordering from the regular menu, I would have found it to be overpriced for what you get. We chose the soup of the day, Branzino (picatta style), Churrasco and the Guava and Coconut flan. For additional appetizers, we also ordered the Pulpo and the Argentine Sausage. The best of all the dishes was the desserts by far. Both were excellent. The Branzino left much to be desired with the picatta sauce and the chimichurri that accompanied the Churrasco had an overly strong parsley taste. The appetizers and the bread they served were both pretty good. *One thing to take note of for management in the future - I would strongly suggest that the restaurant perform any maintenance work during off hours. I almost knocked an additional star off for some repair work that abruptly started halfway through our meal, which we found to be extremely disruptive and loud. While eating our main dish, they begin to drill away at some doors that are right in the center of the restaurant. We couldn't even carry on a conversation once that started. I found it odd that management didn't think about the sound and disturbance it created but I think they thought it would be acceptable since we were the only party present at that time. We didn't bother to complain but once another party arrived for dinner, they immediately commented on it , and alas, the repair work quickly stopped. Thankfully we were able to finish our dessert in peace, but in no way would this ever have been tolerated if the restaurant would have had more diners. Something for them to consider in the future. I held back from the rating deduction because service was good. 3 stars overall for the food and taste and 4 stars for their service and ambiance ( sans the maintenance work issue). read more

This was a romantic spot. The ambiance is calm and sometimes the have live music. The didn't this time I was there but in other occasions they have a pianist playing the piano duh:) which just adds to the energy it is very cozy and the staff is super attentive. See the pictures to see what we ordered. Everything was delicious and the sangria has to be on the top 5. The only dish that didn't make an impact was the beef carpaccio, it was ok. Tried this restaurant during Miami spice for dinner and it was amazing! Our server was slow, took for ever to show up, took for ever to bring the check, but with a little more training this can be fixed. The ambiance was nice, someone was playing the piano and overall people was very nice. The good was delicious and the portions are very generous compared to other restaurants doing mismo spice. The flavors are delicious, the crab cake is so soft it melts in your mouth, the Corvina was well done and was soft and the sauce was perfect. Came here for a rehearsal dinner and the ambience did not disappoint. Very elegant ambience for dinner. Service was great even for those non spanish speaking guests!
