I've been to this restaurant many times, including their seafood market, and my overall experience has always been great. However, I had a bad experience today that I feel needs to be shared. I went with my mom and decided to try the chicken wings for the first time, while she ordered red snapper. Unfortunately, one of my chicken wings was raw. I wasn't wearing my reading glasses, so I didn't notice at first, and I ended up getting food poisoning. When my mom checked her fish, part of it was also undercooked. I let the waitress know, and she offered to replace the chicken wings. When I pointed out my mom's fish, she said she would need to call the manager since most of it had already been eaten. I understand that part, but the situation as a whole was concerning. Food poisoning is no joke--it comes with diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, and even fever. Thankfully my mom didn't get sick, but I did. Please make sure food--especially chicken--is fully cooked before serving. This is really important for your customers' health and safety. read more

Golden Rule has a large Chickee Hut surrounded by lush, tropical landscaping. There's a fish market inside and you're able to order those fresh catches on the menu as well. My blackened grouper sandwich was delicious, but the portion seemed a bit undersized. The same could be said for the "bow" buns--great flavoring, but I was surprised there was only one shrimp per bun, and the order only came with a pair overall. My girlfriend also enjoyed her lobster bisque and side salad. They also had a nice list of craft beers to choose from & we'll certainly be back again, hopefully for some live music too. read more

I can't believe I had never been to this long standing establishment before. The market has been here since the 40s I believe. The restaurant has fish market vibes inside with all kinds of nostalgia items and outside it's a beautiful tiki patio with garden, koi pond, bar and tables. They even had live music this past Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised and impressed. The food was delicious! We tried the grouper sandwich, Cajun pasta with shrimp (pro tip you can get less spicy on the sauce since it's homemade) and the tuna tartar. The key like pie was a showstopper. One of the best I've tried in a while, hands down. They do a good job of making you feel like you are on a tropical garden and not busy US1. I totally recommend and can't wait to return. For my birthday I went to lunch with my family at Golden Rule. It is one of my favorite places for lunch! It never disappoints! We ordered a pitcher of beer and then our entrees deciding to skip an appetizer this time. I always order the Caribbean Fried Conch, and my boyfriend decided to try something new and ordered the Shrimp and Oyster PoBoy. The Fried Conch is so fresh and when the lemon is added it is perfect. It's always cooked perfectly and not excessively chewy. It is my go to entree, every now and then I try to mix it up a bit though. But not today! My boyfriend really enjoyed his Shrimp and Oyster PoBoy he said it was delicious! Everything was fresh and it was not greasy which was great! It was a big meal as well! We will definitely keep coming back to Golden Rule! It's a great spot for lunch with the family! I love Golden Rule. It's a nice place to sit down have a drink and some good food. Last week for the first time we decided to order take out and not eat in the restaurant and it really disappointed. The bang bang shrimp dish was sloppily put together and the portion for the price was not worth it. The fish and fries were ok. Visited Golden Rule on a Saturday evening and waited about 15 minutes for a table outside. They had such a good atmosphere going on with the live band that it was worth the wait to sit outside instead of inside. I ordered the shrimp and grits as my entree. It was so delicious. Came here with the fam on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy! We sat outside and it was nice and cool with the fans. Our server was Don and he was so attentive and friendly. To start we ordered raw oysters and the blackened seared tuna. The oysters (even the small ones) were HUGE! Idk where they source them from but omg they were massive -- yum! The seared tuna was also delicious. The seasoning was just top notch it had great flavor. As my meal I ordered the Greek salad with blackened salmon on top. The portion was great and the salmon was delicious, a nice big fillet. My parents are big fans of the mahi Reuben and they said it was delish as always. My sister ordered the Cajun shrimp and grits. She led us outside where there is a Tiki hut surrounded by different green plants and trees. Place was full with the exception of two tables. Started with 2 Mojitos, one classic and one coconut. Both on point! Our waitress, Kelly, gave us a few suggestions. We chose to order the conch fritters which were the best we've had in a long time. My wife had the Lemon butter snapper with broccoli and sweet potato mash. She said it was very good. I had the Cajun shrimp and grits that I'm definitely going back to have again. I had heard this place recommended many times, and I drive by it almost daily. But it's sort of inauspicious location and knowing it's also a fish market had me questioning if it would be a good restaurant. We decided to try it out today and took my MIL. It was a great as everyone said it was! The ambiance was casual and relaxed and like we were on vacation somewhere. I saw a review that compared it to the Keys and o have to agree. You'd never realize you're sitting on U.S. 1 in Cutler Bay lol. The outdoor seating was under a tiki hut type roof. There were plenty of tables, and it was surrounded by island-y trees. There was a nice long bar on one end of the dining area with two tv's. I will say I would only recommend outdoor seating. The inside restaurant was not that nice and smelled slightly fishy, considering it's right next to the market. But no one was actually sitting there. The outdoor area also had lots of fans, so it felt nice even though it was about 4 pm. And side note, the bathroom (which is inside) was nice and clean which is always a perk!) The food was delicious!! The menu was bigger than I expected, and there were so many tempting choices. We started with the fish dip. It tasted slightly fishier than some I've had at other places, but it was still good. Then I had a cup of lobster bisque which was so flavorful. (This was all soup, no chunks of meat). My main meal was the tacos (blackened Mahi, tiki taco style), and these were perfectly flavored, and the combination of fillings was amazing. Love that it had goat cheese. My husband had the lobster grilled cheese which he was happy with, and my MIL had the Lobster Roll which she said was really good. Our server was really friendly and attentive. The only complaint I had about this restaurant was that it was a little confusing to figure out where to enter for the restaurant. This might partly be bc we had to park on the street in the side. My husband saw a sign that said Restaurant across the gravel parking area so we walked in there. And we walked into what appeared to be a private party area and stood there, but no one acknowledged or helped us. So we walked through and found the main dining area, but even there we were confused about what to do/ where to go and no one helped us. We had to ask someone waking by, and we were told to sit anywhere. We later realized there was a more "main" entrance to this dining area from the U.S. 1 side on the far right (far end of walking from the parking lot). More signs and better guidance from servers/ hosts would have been great. But we were otherwise happy. We'll definitely be back! read more

This is a lovely outdoor restaurant with a chiki hut style roof. Multiple fans keep the large area pleasant. The surrounding foliage acts as a wall giving the place a tropical beach vibe. I love it. We had reservations and arrived on time to be seated immediately. Service was spectacular! Drinks were on the small side but at 10 bucks for a martini no one's complaining For appetizers we opted for the fried oysters (yum) and the ceviche (meh). For the entree I had the whole fried snapper. It was on the small side and needed a bit more seasoning, but I would still order it again. It came with a garlic mash and broccolini which unfortunately were cold. My husband has the lobster stuffed with crab which looked delicious and was according to him. The sautéed snapper looked absolutely incredible sautéed in a lemony caper sauce. Dessert was key lime pie (very good). And molten brownie with ice cream which was good but the smallest ever. There are countless reasons why I moved from the frigid northeast to south Florida but right up there with the best of them is Stone crab. This wonderful sustainable delicacy never feels to satisfy and put a huge smile on my face. What a joy to discover that not too far from my home is a fish market that has the best of Stone crab, and other fish that I enjoy so much but this review is not about the market, it is about the restaurant adjoining. Discovering Golden Rule Seafood was kind of like opening up an oyster and finding a priceless pearl. Both the market and the restaurant are the best at what they do and the staff in each make sure the experience is exemplary. The restaurant is sort of interesting because if you park in the lot and walk in, you would think it is just the tiki hut, an outdoor dining patio. With a lively bar and music this is a perfect place to enjoy your dinner or even watch a sports event on the television while eating and having drinks . But don't be fooled. This casual atmosphere can make you forget that you're about to have one of your best meals you've ever eaten. I have now been there a few times and while it is the stone crab, which got me there it is the consistently good food and wonderful service that gets me back. My favorite, of course is Stone crab, but I did decide to explore other menu items. For appetizers so far my favorites have been the conch ceviche and the tuna wontons. I have yet to try the crabcakes, but they are certainly on the agenda. My wife is a fan of the farm salad. The fish tacos are amazing and three blackened red snapper tacos are a wonderful meal and in fact too much to even finish in one sitting. The whole red snapper is so beautifully and tastes as good as it looks. The mango mahi is another favorite as well. If you have room for dessert, the Keylime pie is as good as anywhere I have eaten. If you don't have room, just take it home and eat it later. They have an awesome selection of drinks, my favorites being the sunshine Mojito, and the watermelon, basil martini. They also have frozen drinks for those hot days when only a frozen daiquiri will do. The triple berry sangria is also a treat. Come for the food enjoy the music and the atmosphere. Or sit inside and have quiet conversation while enjoying your meal. Either way this has become an instant favorite now that I am living nearby. So happy to have found it. read more

The entrance was odd into the market side, then No guidance from hostess / server to be seated, in the indoor restaurant seating, or the more interesting space of the outdoor tiki hut. We just wanted to try out some sampler appetizers. The poke tuna wontons were excellent, the fried buffalo shrimp were also tasty. When I asked the waitress to ID were the shrimp came from ? ( Gulf shrimp ? Vietnam farm) I was told they were "Imported" ? Disappointed that the seafood market couldn't ID them or weren't using local Keys or Gulf shrimp. Finally came to Golden Rule after years of "meaning to go" and several failed attempts. Although I think the ambiance really sells the place and the vibes are nice, I don't see what the hype was about. Stepping into the restaurant makes you feel like you've stepped into a beach tiki restaurant even though there's no water around. We started with the smoked fish dip. It was just your regular smoked fish dip. My husband ordered a shrimp po boy which was a little bland and lacked some flavor to it. I ordered the lobster grilled cheese and was beyond excited for this delicious sounding sandwich only to get a small filling of lobster on burnt toast. Finally I had the chance to have lunch here and I was so pleased! Kudos to our server, Adon (I believe that is his name), as he was excellent and gave us great suggestions! I'm glad I listened to him because the ribs had this nice crust due to their dry rub with brown sugar. The ribs were a little tough but the meat was still coming out of the bone. My wife love her Mahi Mahi and even took 2 orders home!!! The brownie skillet was velvety good! Came with vanilla ice cream and a waffle. Went for Father's Day the bigger tiki hut had live background music that was interactive. The guy was cool and let the kids grab the mallets and help him over certain parts. The shrimp and grits (both Cajun and regular) were delicious. The mango mahi had a flavorful glaze on it with the fresh mango was "chefs kiss" and all the food was well presented.
