Walking inside indeed felt like I was in a restaurant in New Orleans. We were seated in the live music room which held reggae. As we waited for a waitress, a fish dip and crackers "bread service" brought out, which was delicious. The mahi-mahi tacos with rice and beans were fresh and well-seasoned. For some reason, the rice and beans came out in little plastic cups which seemed unnecessary. Service was excruciatingly slow, and we felt neglected. Had this restaurant saved in my favs for awhile. Had a cousin in town and my wife just so happens to say what's for dinner but she already had this place in mind. So off we went passed by this restaurant numerous times and it looks unassuming. But stepping inside it was extraordinarily decorated and dim. We got there during happy hour and the drinks did not disappoint, the bartender was heavy on the pour and if we had more time yeah we would have drank more. The plates and bowl was plentiful and the food was delicious. Service was outstanding as we didn't have to wait long to order or get our food. Did. That is the only rating the Fish House deserves. You walk in and are automatically transported out of Miami. It's a little key west and a little New Orleans. This establishment has been in business for thirty years in an era when some establishments can't even last a year after opening. This is a neighborhood spot that serves high quality/fresh seafood, doesn't skimp on portion sizes and is still affordable in a day and age when EVERYTHING is expensive especially in Miami. We had so many dishes and drinks and we still barely scratched the surface of all their menu items. They make all their sauces in house and their little breads too! They also have a BOMB happy hour. AND THE SERVICE! You would expect a place having been around this long to be okay in the service department, but I would look down alto start eating my next dish and the dish we had just finished would already be bussed. Whenever I drank half my water, it was already refilled. Our server Dylan was amazing. And I feel like every 5 minutes or so there was someone asking if we needed something, was cleaning the table, refilling our drinks or getting our next order or recommending something else to try, but they were able to do it without being annoying which is a feat in and of itself. We got there at 6PM and left at closing! We stayed because there's another area called the Backroomlive that owners daughter started! It's a WHOLE vibe. And on Wednesday to Saturday they do live music. if you haven't been? Why not? And if you've been before, when are you going back?! Visited this past Friday for Happy Hour. Had not been here in years. We have been to the one in Key Largo which is also fantastic. Nice and rustic ambiance, definitely seafood related decor. Welcomed to the table with crackers and seafood dip. I could eat a tub of the dip! Ordered two Margaritas for $6 each which were excellent in regular good size mug. Service was very good team effort. Appetizer was conch fritters, rather small, but tasty with dipping sauce. Lobster bisque on point, can eat a 5 gallon bucket of this easily. My wife had the fried shrimp with parsley potatoes. Tasty and enjoyable. I had the shrimp linguini covered in Parmesan sauce. Ate every bit of it even though I should of taken half home. Definitely recommend going for Happy Hour and save half the cost of dinner menu. Almost forgot Cuban Mojito to finish off the meal. Overall, just as good as the first time we came years ago. Amazing fresh seafood and excellent service. Our waitress Maria was so helpful and professional! She was great at suggesting different things for us to try. We had fresh shocked oysters which were delicious. Lobster bisque was so creamy and flavorful and lastly our crabcakes...oh man! They were huge and with just the right amount of crab and seasoning. I am not one who writes reviews, but after 24 years of coming to The Fish House where fresh fish was the place to go. Where there was never a doubt when my kids would say, "Let's go to the Fish House" to see the Pirates! And with all of our family gatherings throughout the years, great vibe and excellent Jazz music. This was our to go to place even on weekdays during lunch time. The service throughout the years have been amazing our waitress Maria knew us and would go above and beyond, when we would arrive. We always came back. Today it was just my husband and I and we wanted a nice fish dinner. I ordered the Branzino fish comes with a lemon capers garlic sauce with the side of potatoes and we ordered the Whole Florida Lobster Special. Well, to my disappointment I could not even taste my fresh fish. The filet was sprinkled with paprika and was smothered with a thick heavy garlic and capers paste placed on top. It was so pungent in garlic that you could not even taste the lemon or capers and forget tasting the fish. They just placed it on top like a paste and the fish drenched in butter and the same with the boiled potatoes a brown garlic butter. They ruined a nice filet of fish. A lemon and capers sauce should be done on the spot and poured over your grilled fish and it should not be overpowering where you cannot taste the fish at all. It was horrible to say the least. The whole lobster was so over cooked it was like eating rubber and we never got a lobster fork. I did mention it to our nice waitress Nina who was really nice but only offered for us to reach out to the owner. She understood but did nothing about it. She did not even offer dessert, while other tables were being served dessert. This will be the last time we will come here and I am so glad I did not order the Chilean Sea Bass. With so many people working in that kitchen there should an expeditor to check for presentation as well. Boiled potatoes smothered is a brown garlic butter does not look appealing. Sunday lunch thought of this place because so many influencers have been raving about it. I use to come to this Fish House back in 2000 but haven't been back since. Decor inside is like the one in the keys, very welcoming. The man who gave us the crackers and fish dip was very pleasant and extremely nice. Been wanting to try the fish house for some time now. Finally dropped by today for lunch. The ambiance was really sea food / Florida marine life. It always feels comforting when you see all the fisherman pics and memorabilia in a seafood establishment. The service was good and very attentive. They didn't miss a beat. We tried the lobster bisque soup and New England clam chowder which both very delicious. The steamed clams were fire! We tried the fish creole and fried fish chunks from lunch section on the menu. The rice portion was practically a thimble full, and $24 for a few tiny slivers of hamachi is hard to justify. The fish was okay, but they're charging premium prices for what is ultimately a very mediocre experience. The service was acceptable, but it wasn't enough to make up for the poor value. I really enjoy this restaurant and I've come here several times. For whatever reason every time I come here they see me at the same table. I'm not sure why I don't especially like the table. I know they have music in the other room and they never see me in there although I never asked to maybe that's why. That being said, I have ordered the number of things here. They start out with a complementary fish dip and crackers. My wife is not a fan, but I love it. I have had the fried whole fish and feel it can compete with any restaurant on how delicious it tastes and how fresh it is. Their stone crab claws are reasonably priced. Their cracked conk is a bit salty for my taste, but still enjoyable. But my go to here is always the mahi cancun, which is broiled and topped with an awesome creole sauce. The mahi tacos are a treat as well. They have a wonderful happy hour with great prices. I find the hapoy hour food portions to be quite adequate. Service is quick but friendliness varies. Sunday I ordered a tuna loin $30 which came with one side (two tostones) and the ginger sauce $5. The tuna was so full of gristle, I could barely cut it, had to pull it apart. I left half On the plate and ate 2 tostones. Complained to waiter and said was not served loin and wanted my complaint referred to chef, unacceptable for a fish restaurant. I normally do not down rate a restaurant but lately, restaurant owners are very relaxed with food quality, service and cleanliness. The Fish House has completely disillusioned me. They used to be so good when they first opened in Miller drive. Their service and food were very good and they had a very distinctive ambiance. Visited them twice during the last 6 months and will not do it again. This is a wakeup call to their owners. BTW. I read your reply but could not figure out how to reply. So here it goes. It's a shame to leave a negative review for a restaurant that actually serves good food! Unfortunately this place has a small room in the back with live entertainment that they bypass multiple empty tables, sometimes even putting small "reserved" signs on those tables. They sit you in the back, don't say why and charge a cover per person. We have been caught in this situation about three times in the last 6 months. Tonight they started to walk us to the back, again multiple empty booths. I said we were not interested in the show and the guy said he had to put us on a waiting list. We were a party of two and there were multiple clean empty tables. We waiting 10 minutes and decided to take our business elsewhere. It's a shame.. If that was not clear - what I meant to say is that the large crabs we were served were medium size at best, but the $65/pound price was closer to what Jumbo would be. This restaurant has been around for many, many years in a very unassuming part of Miami, located in a strip mall on Miller Drive and 109 avenue in Kendall. Not where you would expect to find this little gem of a seafood restaurant for sure. No matter whether you are looking for raw bar items, traditional seafood or sushi, this place does it right and their prices will not break the bank either! Truthfully we have been coming here for years not just for dinner but to purchase fresh seafood from their market area. Atmosphere is great and very laid back as well. Nice times and you almost feel like you are somewhere in the Keys, which is perfect. Service is also excellent and our server provided us with a few good ideas as well. On this particular occasion we decided to go with the Colossal Shrimp cocktail and the Grilled Octopus to start. Both were amazing and the shrimp were huge! Only four included but believe me they were big enough. For our main courses we ordered the Caribbean Rice with Shrimp and the Chilean Sea Bass with Grilled Shrimp in a Parmesan sauce. Both were excellent and the fish and shrimp were super fresh as well. I highly recommend if you want to try something new for seafood that you give them a shot. I don't think you will be disappointed and it is well worth the drive. Hell I drove 15 miles to get here myself! They have enough room on the weekdays to not be rushed out. The slogan is "we not fancy, but we're fresh". I hesitate to even write this in fear of never being able to get a table in here again. All I can say is WOW! I have been searching high and low for the perfect seafood restaurant... something that reminds me of home and growing up on the gulf coast of Florida. I've finally found it! In an unassuming strip mall sits the hidden gem of Miami. This place has been serving locals since 1998 and it's easy to see why. From start to finish, we have never been so impressed by a restaurant experience. We came in on Valentine's Day evening around 8:30 and were immediately greeted by a sweet hostess who was happy to welcome us newcomers. We were offered to sit in the back room for live jazz music for a $10 cover charge and happily accepted. The room transports you to New Orleans with its eclectic decor, NOLA-style balcony on the front wall, and of course the stage in the back. I didn't see much of the rest of the restaurant until a trip to the bathroom led me past two other dining areas, adorned with nautical decor, and a prominent display of delicious raw seafood ready to make its way to your plate. Our waitress arrived with a sample of fish dip and crackers for each of us, which was a lovely surprise. She was wonderfully attentive all while letting us enjoy our evening together uninterrupted. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a dozen raw oysters to start. The oysters were perfectly sized, shucked well, and ICE COLD! They didn't last long at our table. After carefully weighing the options on the expansive menu, I decided to keep it old school and go with a Fresh Catch option served with one side. I chose the black grouper, grilled, with a lemon caper sauce and a Caesar salad. The salad came quickly and was large enough to split. The grouper was deliciously delicate and the sauce just phenomenal. My boyfriend chose the Mahi Mardi Gras chef's special that came smothered with a crawfish étouffée-like sauce on top all over a bed of white rice. Nothing like some crawfish and mahi with every bite. The portion was large and tough to finish. The highlight of the evening was the live music. I knew in advance that it was jazz night and their website listed a performer. To our surprise, this incredibly talented woman brought along with her several talented students of hers. Every single one of them sang beautifully, and the band was no less impressive. Towards the end, some regulars showed up and one of them joined the singer on stage for an "unforgettable" duet and a solo of his own. I can't underscore enough just how much we enjoyed it all. Like I said, I grew up in the panhandle of Florida and just can't get enough of good, fresh seafood - especially at a reasonable price point. I imagine everything on the menu is worth every penny! Even more, with Louisiana & Texas roots in my family, it was amazing to taste those perfect flavors and feel the sense of Cajun camaraderie I'm so accustomed to in the middle what can be a less-than-friendly city of Miami.
