What really felt unreasonable was seeing Captain's raise their prices while removing long‑standing traditions like including a salad or coleslaw. Even if they added five dollars for the salad or coleslaw recently due to increases in cost in inflation, Captain's Tavern is a definite go to on a Friday evening. If you come to this restaurant, you have to go all out and order the lobster. You can taste the time and preparation that went into it. They serve the biggest tails which translates to bigger flavors. The butter that is under the lobster has amazing flavors. It is served in a way for easy consumption. The miso salmon is recommended for the younger pallet, however the grouper with hollandaise was not the combination for me. The tanks in the place were beautiful to see. There are maybe a handful of places left in south Miami and Kendall from the "old days" in Miami which for me is the late 70s and early 80s. Kind of pre Miami vice if you will. This is one of those few places still standing the harkens back to Miami of old. It is a simple old school fish house. The bar is always full of locals - Kiley if you took a vote it would be a parrot head convention. It's just what it is a simple place to get a piece of fish that's locally owned and been there forever. The food is fine. They have narrowed the menu a bit I think. Service was horrible from beginning to end. The decor is this place is outdated and falling apart. They definitely need to do some maintenance. The food lack flavor, every single thing was bland. The dinner rolls were so hard you couldn't even eat it. The lobster was bland and the fish was bland and overly fried. $600 dinner and we left still hungry. I have driven by this place for years but never dined there till today. Good to know I wasn't missing out on anything as the food was terrible . It was packed with older people and the only reason I can think of is because the pricing is affordable. We tried the macadamia crusted fish and the dijon fish which we were told are 2 of there most popular dishes. Both were flavorless and I was expecting a chunky crunchy macadamia encrusted fish and instead I got a sad looking filet that appeared breaded and fried. The dijon fish was horrible. I have cooked delicious Dijon fish so I was shocked that a seafood restaurant made this flavorless, and very fishy tasting dish. Even the presentation was sad, and the fish looked unappetizing. We ordered asparagus that was basically raw and undercooked. Baked potato was dry and overcooked and served in aluminum foil as if this was a mess hall. They couldn't be bothered to cut it open and put the butter and sour cream in it. No pride in anything they serve here and it shows. The only good thing I had was the coleslaw. I would never return here and laughed out loud at reviews saying this is the best seafood. It's Florida, there are endless fresh seafood options and so many way better than this place. Food was so good and fresh. I ordered the 2 pound lobster. My friend took me out for my birthday. It comes with salad or Cole slaw and yellow rice or baked potato. On Saturday, I decided to treat my family to stone crabs and placed an order for five. I spent $355 on large-sized stone crab claws, along with mustard and cocktail sauces. We enjoyed the crabs earlier this afternoon while celebrating my wife's birthday. However, I was deeply disappointed to discover that many of the claws were not large, as advertised, but small. As you know, large-sized claws come at a premium price, while smaller ones are significantly cheaper (refer to the attached picture). To make matters worse, the claws were not pre-cut for easy consumption. Instead, they mixed claws of various sizes, left them uncut, and carelessly packed them into a plastic bag--all without informing us. I love how this restaurant has been around forever but the service and food remain great. Service started with drink orders and complimentary hot bread and butter. Next was the new England clam chowder that was not to thick but had the perfect consistency. I just wanted a simple lobster dinner and ordered my 2 pound steamed happiness. Alongside I chose a house salad with garlic dressing (loved this dressing) and sautéed spinach (came with mushrooms). I devoured this with no shame. Parents had the sea bass (with requested lemon caper sauce) and a side of fettuccine alfredo. The alfredo was extremely rich and filling. Other dish were scallops (lemon caper atop) and sweet potato fries. Dish was very light yet tasty. For dessert I wasn't sharing so I had my birthday slice of key lime pie and enjoyed every bite. Perfect tang and sweetness here. Mom had the bread pudding. She closed her eyes upon each bite. I had to try and the feeling is so mutual. The food was fine; Escargots, Crab-cakes, Stuffed Mushrooms and Raw Oysters are all good. The cocktails are on the weak side; had to ask for Aperol Spritz to have more Aperol and Server made sure Bartender improved the 2nd round. Wine by glass was a good value @$6. The lobsters (stuffed and tail) were fine. The FL Lobster tail @$48 is not a good value and a bit overcooked/dry. The fishes; Branzino and Snapper were fine, as well as Cajun Scallops. I was shocked to see that this place had an average rating of 3.5. I've lived so close to this restaurant and this is my first time here. The interior is absolutely amazing. It transported me back in time to my younger years. I'm not a seafood fan but the family is so I'll take one for the team. The restaurant did not smell like a fish house. The waiter (Anthony) was absolutely great. He was very honest and took his time explaining all the dishes and their accompanying sides. We ordered Churrasco, Trout, Lobster & Oysters. Captains Tavern has been a seafood staple in the South Florida area for many years. They are located in a sort of hidden strip mall right off of US1; however, there is plenty of parking available and very easy to get in as well from both South and North directions. They have a variety of seafood choices covering shellfish, all sort of fish items, raw bar and everything in between. That said though, if you love Oysters well then they have a wide selection in including Bluepoints which are my personal northeasterly favorites. We have been coming here for years and they have never disappointed on either the food or the service. They do tend to get busy so you may want to try them early but the wait is never very long from what I can tell. Friday and Saturday's tend to be pretty busy but again, well worth the trip and the time if you ask me. Ambiance is pretty laid back and the place does have a 80's vibe / decor but hey it works and is actually pretty interesting. Service will not be a problem either as they are very attentive and will provide any recommendations if you are new to the menu as well. Freshness of the seafood is awesome and really this is where the rubber hits the road in my humble opinion. So if you find yourself in the mood for some seafood and happen to be in the Dadeland Mall or The Falls area you may want to give them a shot. Enjoy and Bon Appétit! read more

The owner and truly made this an awesome destination with an amazing assortment of surf and turf that is both visually arresting and delectable. The Snapper over coconut rice was superb as were the oysters. Every plate in our 6 person party left their plates bare - no way of making a wrong choice. Now the desserts truly top things off. Interior hasn't change at all since my last visit 10 years ago but clean old school '50s. Ordered cocktails which were very good, menu wasn't too bad, prices were up a bit to be expected. Ordered Curry Shrimp & Scallops, Cajun Scallops which lacked enough spice but tasty. Portions weren't too large.Dining room eventually began to fill with regulars, very busy. Service was still good no complaints, our server Christina great, made sure we had refills, etc. Even has sushi now. Went here with a couple of friends on a Saturday evening. My friend's family has been coming here for years. When you go inside, you feel like you stepped back in time to a cozy old-fashioned seafood restaurant, circa 1970's or 1980's. I liked it. I ordered grilled branzino. It came with a choice of baked potato, french-fries, or rice. This was in addition to either coleslaw or salad. Many of the seafood entrees were around $30. I loved my meal. It was delicious. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the server. He seemed to be newish, and I asked if I could get a substitution for one of the sides. He said he doesn't think so, but will check. Ok so my mom worked here many many years ago and also told me how great it was. 10 years later I went and she was so right. Everything was so yummy. Service was exceptional. I wish I knew the servers name I don't remember her mentioning her name but she was great. By great I mean we had a toddler with us and she so accommodating. All I remember is she had a necklace with a P on it and I believe a nose piercing. Anyways she was great. Food, now food was delicious.
