If you come to this restaurant, you have to go all out and order the lobster. You can taste the time and preparation that went into it. They serve the biggest tails which translates to bigger flavors. The butter that is under the lobster has amazing flavors. It is served in a way for easy consumption. The miso salmon is recommended for the younger pallet, however the grouper with hollandaise was not the combination for me. The tanks in the place were beautiful to see. The servers were helpful.

I took my father here for his birthday day. Made reservations 4hrs prior to arrival time. I even called 2hrs ahead of time to confirm reservation, when we got there our table wasn't ready. Service was horrible from beginning to end. The decor is this place is outdated and falling apart. They definitely need to do some maintenance. The food lack flavor, every single thing was bland. The dinner rolls were so hard you couldn't even eat it. The lobster was bland and the fish was bland and overly fried. $600 dinner and we left still hungry. Our waiter was an older gentleman that was slow and wasn't very knowledgeable when it came to their wine list. Asked for recommendations and got a blank stare.

As you walk in through the front doors at Captains Tavern, you're immediately transported back to the 1970s. The decor in here looks like it's probably the same as the day they opened, and I love that about it! As you walked to your table, you can't help to feel the awesome family restaurant vibe. The place is always packed, and it's definitely a neighborhood restaurant, as you often see regulars greeting each other. The staff is friendly and the service is excellent. The food is always perfect. I've never been disappointed with anything I've had. I love their seafood medley, the lobster bisque is top notch .... and my favorite dessert is the banana cream pie!!

Food was so good and fresh. I ordered the 2 pound lobster. My friend took me out for my birthday. It comes with salad or Cole slaw and yellow rice or baked potato. I had the Cole slaw and the baked potato. I had also lychee martini very nice and the escargot it was very tasty. For dessert I had the bread pudding with rum. Very good. This place I give it 5 starts is very much worth it. The service was on point. Definitely, will come back.

On Saturday, I decided to treat my family to stone crabs and placed an order for five. I spent $355 on large-sized stone crab claws, along with mustard and cocktail sauces. We enjoyed the crabs earlier this afternoon while celebrating my wife's birthday. However, I was deeply disappointed to discover that many of the claws were not large, as advertised, but small. As you know, large-sized claws come at a premium price, while smaller ones are significantly cheaper (refer to the attached picture). To make matters worse, the claws were not pre-cut for easy consumption. Instead, they mixed claws of various sizes, left them uncut, and carelessly packed them into a plastic bag--all without informing us. This experience has left me frustrated, and I will never purchase from Captain's Tavern again.

Had such a lovely birthday dinner here. Melanie was our server and was absolutely pleasant and patient with us. I love how this restaurant has been around forever but the service and food remain great. Service started with drink orders and complimentary hot bread and butter. Appetizers we started off with the conch fritters that were tender and tasty. Went perfect with that Dijon honey mustard sauce. Next was the new England clam chowder that was not to thick but had the perfect consistency. I just wanted a simple lobster dinner and ordered my 2 pound steamed happiness. Alongside I chose a house salad with garlic dressing (loved this dressing) and sautéed spinach (came with mushrooms). I devoured this with no shame. Parents had the sea bass (with requested lemon caper sauce) and a side of fettuccine alfredo. The alfredo was extremely rich and filling. Other dish were scallops (lemon caper atop) and sweet potato fries. Dish was very light yet tasty. For dessert I wasn't sharing so I had my birthday slice of key lime pie and enjoyed every bite. Perfect tang and sweetness here. Mom had the bread pudding. She closed her eyes upon each bite. I had to try and the feeling is so mutual. Next time I think we'll start with dessert first because omg it was heavenly! Thx for a great birthday dinner and the singing of my non-sharing key lime treat..lol

I will say the sushi roll itself (while not necessarily small) was not all that large/filling, so I would recommend getting something else on the side. I liked that their roll and appetizers had a fun flavor and uniqueness that I haven't seen at other places. But I will say the prices are a little expensive but I guess average for Miami area. I was surprised to find single-use chopsticks over reusable ones. A small detail in an otherwise fairly nice restaurant that did kind of stick out to me. The vibe kind of felt like a mix of a slightly more upscale restaurant, but also kind of minimalist modern if that makes sense? Additionally, our service was a bit slow, with our waiter right over our shoulder asking if we were ready to place our order, no then not being around for the rest of the meal. Maybe it was just an off night though, and the food did come out fairly quickly. Overall I did enjoy my meal here, and I would probably come back eventually when I want something slightly more upscale. But on a day-to-day I would probably go Edward for my sushi fix. Not that the food was bad by any meals. I really enjoyed the fun and different flavor combinations, it's just a little pricy to go to everyday, and in my opinion the main portion sizes don't quite reflect that or have any particular flare to them aside from a colorful/flavorful sauce or topping in them. Recommend a try if you are nearby though to see for yourself.

So, let's get into it: I don't know about you, but the one thing I do not enjoy doing is driving and circling around, being lost, just to find an establishment. So, I love that this restaurant is so easy to find with good signage, lots of nearby parking, both street and lots. Anywho, once I parked, the manager Judd was so friendly and kind and directed me to the table where my friend was seated. He overheard that I was kind of speaking loud over the music when I barely had a voice due to losing it from another event, so he kindly turned down the music for us. Once there, service was quick and attentive. I got a Fresh Paloma for my drink and the Seared Salmon for dinner. The drink was a good size and tasted good, no complaints there. As for the dinner, WOW. This was delicious, I would get this again. The flavors were there and the portions were just perfect (not too much and not too little, I usually never get enough or leave with leftovers). Also, not overpriced for Miami in my opinion. Aside from that, I did try some of my friend's off-menu pasta and it was really yummy. Furthermore, they have great weekly specials: (Note, subject to change. I really enjoyed the gyozas, they were crunchy on the outside but so savory on the inside. The soup dumplings literally burst in your mouth. They were so yummy. The fried milk bun felt like I was eating a Thai donut, I expected something different but it was good. As an entree I enjoyed the Tonkatsu hot pot, presentation was 10/10. The broth tastes so good, I couldn't get enough, they use rice noodles for this dish specifically which I love. Everyone was great service wise, very kind and accommodating. The only thing I will say is that 2 dishes took longer than expected to arrive so some of the people in our party had to wait a bit longer to eat their food. Other than that, we enjoyed the food very much. The boba tea was also so good! They have a good variety of flavors to choose from, my cousins got a rainbow one and it looked so appealing to the eye. I had the green tea lemonade and added boba, it was very refreshing.
