So after not coming here for a while I learned that it was sold and changed management... so... I decided to come back and give the new "revamped" place a try. First thing I noticed was that a lot of their regular customers were not there. Menu had changed and prices went up. Which I can understand since everything is more expensive now at days. I ordered one of their menu staples from before, Callos a la Gallega, which they told me now it is even better than before. So I had to try it. What a Disappointment !!! In one word.... TASTELESS. Service is about the same... friendly and the bar counter is usually a good place to have your lunch. I wish I had something more positive to say but it was not a good experience. Maybe in another occasion I could try it again and see if there has been any improvement. The consensus is that the kitchen is not putting out great dishes. Thumbs way down on this one. read more

Today, our group chose El Gallegazo for our weekly Friday lunch. We were surprised there was only one other table with 2 people at the time, as we had gone there under the previous administration and it was always full. Half of us were served within a reasonable time, the other 4 had to wait about 45 minutes for their food. During this time, the waiter brought baskets of hot rolls to the table without anyone requesting it. The food was good, but the prices of regular plates were too high, from $26 to over $40 each, much more expenses than they were before. When we received our individual bill, each had been charged $1.99 for 3 rolls of bread; when we asked about it, the waiter said that the first round was complimentary, but the other ones were not. We told him we had not ordered the rolls and that we had not had 24 rolls served, he stated that it was the restaurant's policy. I was the first one to pay. With the bread I did not order, tax and 20% tip, the $16.99 seafood soup ended up costing $26.03. The waiter got mixed up with most of the other bills, charging them for items others had ordered so it took a while to straighten it out. When one of the ladies paid with a $100 bill, the waiter wanted to charge her for my meal; I reminded him I had paid him already, that I had put a $20, a $5, a $1 and 10c in the bill holder and that it was the first one he took to the register. He left and came back a few minutes later and announced to the table that I had not paid my bill, I told him I did paid, and he again stated I had not paid. I told him to go check the register, he left the table, came back after a long while, and handed me the bill holder with $6 inside, stating he found it by the register, then he turned around and left the table without offering an apology. I went to the register, looked him in the eyes and handed him the $6 tip. Again, no apology, just a very low "thank you". Do they always take so long to serve the food, and are the other waiters as unprofessional as the one we had? I don't know, but our group promised never to even mention El Gallegazo again. read more

We were in the mood for Spanish tapas and after going to 3 different places (one was closed for remodeling, another was having a private party and the 3rd had the wrong address on Yelp) we stopped at this place. Had always heard good things about it but never tried it. They had a special menu for $11.99 that included a main course 2 sides , dessert and a glass of wine or Sangria. I ordered a sausage in wine appetizer, shrimp in garlic sauce with fries and rice, bread pudding and sangria. The shrimp were large, cooked right and very tasty. My husband ordered lamb shank, rice, fries, sangria and torta De Santiago (almond cake). Everything was delicious. Servers were very attentive and they had live music. A Westchester Classic Reborn! I've lived in Westchester my entire life. I remember going to El Gallegazo with my parents 30+ years ago. I learned to start to like Spanish cuisine at this place. In recent years, it had become run-down. Then, I heard it had new owners and decided to visit again. It is great once more! On my recent visit, I tried a number of dishes (the benefit of going with a group and everyone sharing!). The chorizo, ham and cheese platter was great (as the minimum measure of any legit Spanish restaurant ought to be). The croquetas were very good (more Miami-style than a traditional Spanish-style, but I actually prefer that). The octopus (pulpo a feira) was THE MOST TENDER OCTOPUS IN MIAMI!!! I make it a point to try the octopus at any place I go to that sells octopus, and this was, by far, the most tender octopus I have had anywhere in Miami (or outside of Galicia, really). It's dressed simply with olive oil and smoked paprika (Pimenton de la vera). The rabbit was delicious and tender. The bacalo a la vizcaina (salt cod, Biscay style) was fantastic. The lamb shank (jarrete de cordero) was likewise amazing. The flan we had for dessert reminded me of the flan I would have at my mom's or grandmother's house (dense, creamy, loaded with caramel). The wine list was extensive, and the Rioja and Albariño bottles we had were a wonderful complement to all the dishes we tried. I went on a Friday night, which meant they had live music, which was a nice background to the evening. I remember seeing Flamenco shows here as a kid, so I'm hoping they bring that back, too! Again, as a lifelong Westechester native, I love seeing longstanding places that are kept going. This space could just as easily have been turned into another random business in a strip mall, so I am very glad to see that this neighborhood classic is getting the love it deserves. Spanish Restaurant in the heart of West Miami. Older crowd yet super fun if you are looking for something authentic as far as food goes. They have a Spanish Music show on Saturdays and Sundays. It is definitely a crowd pleaser. The service is excellent and they try to make you feel right at home. Came here on a Saturday for lunch. They have a lunch special for about $11 with 10 different selections from seafood to pork to steak. It includes 2 sides, a glass of wine or sangria, and dessert. The service was great but the place was pretty empty when we arrived around 1:30. Around 2:30 when we were leaving the place was filling up. The food was excellent & cooked to order. I ordered shrimp in garlic sauce with boiled potatoes & veggies. Others with me had the baby steak which was more like a HUGE steak with white rice & fries. The other plate we had was pork with shrimp in a savory sauce with white rice & boiled potatoes. I have no complaints about the place, service or food. The decor is very spaniard & they have entertainment at night with flamenco dancers. I will definitely be returning. read more

Came here looking for a replacement Spanish restaurant since my old go-to closed their doors. The restaurant was empty and very dark. The server was kind and since there was no one else there he was very attentive. As far as the food goes, I wasn't very impressed. The food wasn't as good as I'm used to. I ordered the morcilla (blood sausage) with potatoes but they didn't have any that day. I asked the server what he recommended but he just recited the menu to me. I went for a lacon asado (roasted pork shoulder) with potato and mixed vegetables. The lacon was huge! It was cooked on the bone and had bits of crispy skin and fat still attached for added greasy deliciousness. Unfortunately the veggies were of the frozen variety and killed the dish. I also tried the callo (tripe) stew but it wasn't what I was expecting. I'm used to having tripe stew with garbanzos and bits of spanish chorizo (sausage) but only got the tripe in sauce. I asked the waiter about it and he said the style I'm referring to is from Madrid but the restaurant cooks using a northern style from Galicia. Plain style... Both dishes were part of a dinner special they were offering. They came with a glass of generic red wine and a dessert and turned out to be a very inexpensive meal. Once seated, we ordered - menu is not varied- table clothes had been sitting on those tables for weeks and stains were everywhere - ugh! What stands out the most is the "caldo Gallego" a staple for the Spaniards - 5 of us started with the soup- mistake! It's at a good location right on Coral Way off of the Palmetto in the corner of a shopping center, so that's the first plus point. Took literally 13 minutes on a Sunday afternoon driving from Country Walk. Many, many Spanish specialties, and I originally wanted a paella campesina, but since it was going to take 40 minutes, ordered a delicious sopa de mariscos, and masas de cerdo con camarones. The sopa was a broth full of seafood, and the masas which were in a nice, yellowish sauce were tender. The shrimp were big and tasty. Even ordered a sopa to go for my dad, who was craving a fishy soup kind of similar to our Peruvian Parihuela. Much like Gallegos, we Peruvians love seafood. This place has been there for many years, and it's overwhelmingly an older crowd which is excellent in order to avoid the typical trashy loudmouths in many Miami restaurants. I like eating in peace and not listening to other people's mindless drivel. Will definitely return next or the following week. Viva Galicia, joder! If I could've rated 0 stars I would have... The food was extremely plain and had no flavor, I could have made the same entree at home with much better results. The service was absolutely horrible. We were advised us order from the special menu because it was late and they did not want to go through the trouble of cooking anything complicated. The fries where stale. The "sirloin" steak was full of skin everywhere, definitely was not cleaned correctly. Above all the waiter was extremely rude and accused us of asking for a free extra dessert although we had originally asked for it in the first place and he forgot about it! He was insinuating we were attempting to "pull a fast one" on him! Finally to top off the bad service the waiter kept pushing us for his tip, are we supposed to be harassed about giving tips now?!? DEFINITELY will never return here and for goodness sake save yourself the time, money and the let down. read more

The food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The fish and meat are extremely tasty. The only reason I am not giving this place five stars is because the waiter was extremely rude. Perhaps he thinks that he is in Spain where you can be rude to the customers because they're on salary. The other issue was the parking ;the parking is absolutely horrendous. I would recommend this place simply because the food is worth it. We came here tonight because an acquaintance had mentioned they had seen good reviews and I can honestly tell you the good reviews must be fake. This has to be the worst restaurant I've ever eaten, not the worst Spanish restaurant but just the worst restaurant. The fact that we went on Friday night and there were only two other tables with customers should have been a warning sign. We ordered garbanzos and they were dry and tasteless. Usually adding chorizo to any dish adds flavor but these people managed to make it tasteless. The best thing were the warm rolls that they bring you at the beginning of the meal, everything else was an utter disappointment. How this place stays open is beyond me. I've been coming here for a few years for their weekday lunch special and have never been disappointed with their food or service. It's about $11 and comes with an entrée; one glass of house red, white, or sangria; a small basket of bread; and a dessert. I almost always order the lacon (ham hock) with vegetables. It comes on the bone but can be requested off-bone if desired. Anyway, it's so soft, flavorful, and succulent, it's falling off the bone, just amazing. I've also ordered the salmon with vegetables and it was delicious. I always order the flan for dessert and it is good. We usually top off with an espresso - not included in the lunch special, but a meal isn't complete without one. We've tried catching the live entertainment at night, but both times the musician was out of town or something. Best to call ahead of time to make sure the show is on. This place has a small bar at the entrance. It's a small, modest restaurant overall, very local and neighborhood-oriented with a steady flow of regulars. You are not likely to find tourists here. The food is Galician (hence the name, "El Gallegazo," colloquially "the big/hearty Galician"), from northern Spain, so it may not be what you're used to if you frequent other Spanish restaurants whose menu items are influenced by, say, cuisine from Madrid, Barcelona, or Seville. Galician food has its own style and flavor, and El Gallegazo does a good job of bringing it to the table for all to enjoy. read more

This is neighborhood gem. Authentic and cooked by a Spanish chef. We had fresh grilled fish dishes, The lamb or Jarrete was delicious, the octopus soft and tasty, the cod croquetas were delicious , cheese , Spanish ham, and salami. we had albariño white wine. The flan was so delightful because it wasnt too sweet, and it had a good firm consistency. This place is amazing!!!! My boyfriend and I stumbled in hoping for some quick local food and were blown away with how delicious the paella was! Not only was the food wonderful, but our waiter Martin was the best! You have to ask for him if you go- he gave us the best wine pairing and brought us up to teach us how to salsa.
