This is a hidden gem for peruvian food. The decor is very steakhousey, but the food largely delivers on a traditional peruvian flavor. The waiting staff was attentive and constantly served us water and checked in on us. We had corvina, tallarin verde (green spaghetti with salmon), and lono saltado rissoto. I will be reviewing my overall experience of a recent visit I took at this establishment. First impression, the establishment is well decorated ; while not as upscale/fine (eg no table cloth ) it still had nice table decorating. I would say a few steps above your average steakhouse/mom and pop diner, and 1 below Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Food: The dinner rolls where warm, fluffy and fresh. lomo saltado : the fried where extra crispy rice was nice and fluffy the meat was tender and perfectly season and cooked. The sauce was a bit concentrated or over reduced. It was a very strong flavor, not necessarily bad but just a note. Risotto lomo salvaje: Risotto has great texture and flavors sauce was a bit over reduce like in the prior dish. The service was great, always paying attention to detail and water levels. They also took our left overs to the back and packed them themselves! There was one small con: the aromas. I'm not sure if it was from the cigar shop next door or something else like incense or candle aromatic, while my nose mead able to tune it out within a few minutes, my pregnant wife was not able to. The staff did take notice and came to ask if everything was ok , as they noticed her covering the nose, we said yes as we thought it was just the cigar store. It wasn't until we rode home we noticed we had that smell on us. Also another note: gratuity was auto included. However they make it better clear in the receipt with a huge red stamp that it is included and the host also reminded when she brought the terminal to pay. Wow, I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this spot already! The restaurant is on the pricey side for the portions they serve, but everything we've had with the exception of the fried rice has been outstanding. We've had the ceviches, causas, lomo saltado, papa a la huancaina, and a couple of the risottos. The decor is very nice and makes for a nice date spot despite the location. Came unexpectedly to this spot, but glad I did. This Peruvian spot was really good, hit the spot. Plus our waiter was really nice and attentive. I originally wanted to try the shrimp ceviche but ended up ordering the salmon, which was delicious! It came with mashed potatoes and a bed of spinach which was good, but I'm not a fan of soggy spinach. Oh and the fried Roco shrimp was amazing! That was our appetizer, it's a must get. It's super tasty, with the huancaina sauce! There was also a gentleman that was singing music which was really nice and entertaining. This place is located in a small shopping plaza. It's in the far back of the plaza right next to a cigar shop. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you are engulfed by the strong cigar smell coming from next door. The place looks very elegant and the waiters all look very professional. I had a late lunch here yesterday and was amazed! The first time here I guess I didn't notice the decor but this time I did. I like how they stay true to the Peruvian culture. To begin the restaurant smelled like cigarettes. We order a lomo saltado and the French fries were burn. My daughter ordered a side of fries and they were burn. The restaurant was empty, no excuse for burn fries. The papa a la huancaina was the worst i have ever eaten in Miami. Zero flavor. To top it off, they automatically charge a service charge of 17%. When we asked the waitress she explained that out of that 17% the restaurant owners take 3% to pay the rest of the staff and she only keeps 14% for her. Basically, customers pay for this restaurant employees while they steal from the waiters. The waitress was very nice and attentive. I will never return or recommend this place to nobody. Causa Cuatro- Octopus, Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken. Every one was delicious. I liked the Octopus Best with the olive sauce. Lomo Saltado Spring rolls-we needed two orders. Excellent.nice filling of seasoned meat with a crispy roll. Fried Yuca side order. The Lomo Saltado main dish was delicious as well. And more than enough to share and be a complete meal. This is a local seafood restaurant 5 mins away from my house. Their ceviche is fresh, their chaufa (fried rice with seafood) is the best in town! I love to order once and a while from here because it is a little $$ but seafood in general is $$. On the weekends they have live music and a selected menu so don't be surprised if you come in with a certain meal in mind and their not serving it that night. That's the only reason I give it a 4 and not 5. Sometimes I'm just craving a certain dish and their not making it that night. We have been coming to El Chamán since 2008, the food was always the the best On 2022 we were there for an occasion and the plates we ordered Ceviche, Conchas gratinadas, risotto which was the best, however, on Dec 2, 2023 we ordered the same Problem, the Conchas were burnt and tasteless, Ceviche vuelve a la vida was extremely pepper hot it was returned to lower the pepper taste it came back over lemoned still unable to eat it. As to the risotto. embrujo was also bad, lack the taste, like it was placed in a microwave. Just visited this place and I felt so disappointed with this place Me and my daughter ordered pescado a lo macho and pescado nazca The regular fish they use is swai fillet but you can upgrade it to corvina We ask the server to upgraded but when they bring the plate was swai , the flavor wasn't bad but as a chef I know the difference between both We tell the server in a polite way to remove the charges of the upgrade and he went to the kitchen to ask what happened Then one of the servers or the manager we don't know cause he never introduce himself gave me a nonsense explanation of cut their use for the fillet I explained I'm a chef and I know the difference between then And then he started to become rude and and sarcastic with my explanation And when my wife went to use the restrooms she heard the owner tell him that we have to pay for the upgrade even if the gave us swai The worst of this is place that even if you ask for an upgrade on the fish the menu don't warning you of the difference on the price wich is illegal And they not supposed to charge nothing extra My recommendation to all costumers If you can't notice difference between a swai or corvina You better don't ask for upgrade Cause they they will scam you I don't recommend a place where they cheat you read more

The place is inconspicuous among the sea of Peruvian restaurants springing up across Miami. However, it's what makes a GOOD Peruvian restaurant that sets it apart from the rest. This place has made a name for itself. I have frequented Chamán enough times and eaten enough dishes that I can conclude it is deserving of the five-star rating I have assigned the restaurant. The plates are cooked well, the portions adequate, and the taste authentic. The service, even on weekends, is excellent. I had one too many pisco sours and enjoyed each one. Live music is a nice plus. Overall, a great experience. P.S. I had the Lomo Saltado, which I have had at many Peruvian places. This was up there with the best. They didn't have the fries in the sauce, so they weren't soggy, but a few of them did indeed get soggy, so it was a perfect mix! The meat was tender, the rice was....well rice, can't really rate that too much lol. It was a great, large dish. The fiance had tallarines verde, a pasta, in some sort of green sauce with a churassco on top. WOW, pasta and staeak? DELICIOUS! She isn't a huge meat eater, so she slid over some of the steak to me. That's one of the reasons we are getting married lol. The waitress heard my fiance say the dessert was delicious, but we were stuffed and didn't order dessert. They lost me as a customer. This used to be our go to but their customer service has declined to a point that I will not go back. Last week I went with my family I have a 5 and 8 year old. I ordered an adult salmon with pasta for both, the waitress explained they had kids meal pastas so I said fine then two kids pastas. When the plates arrived they were huge, two big pieces of salmon and a huge plate of pasta, again I asked the lady are these kids meals? and she said yes. When the bill got to the table I had been charged for two adult meals when we complained the manager came to our table, no apology, blaming us for not saying anything when the food came out (which we did) then said fine we will remove one meal from the bill took our leftovers to the kitchen threw away the salmon and gave me back the leftovers with the pasta only.
