This is Chivo... it was delicious

I lived a few minutes away from this restaurant for almost 30 years and never went to it. A few days ago I was looking for a place to take my mom for Mother's Day and I found this with very good reviews on Google and decided to give it a try. SERVICE: I didn't think that I needed a reservation but I suggest you make one. I'm not sure if it was because of Mother's Day but the place was packed. We got lucky that we only waited 5mins for a table. One of the waiters came to us waiting by the entrance and he quickly grabbed a table for us. The place had like 7 tables with 12+ ppl in each of them. It was insanely packed but our waiters were smiling, funny, professional, and moved pretty quick considering the amount of people there. Great service. FOOD: Delicious, delicious, delicious. It's rare to find chivo (goat) but they had it and it was tender and delicious. My husband ordered sangria and I had a sip of it and it was also very good. The food is Spanish so there's a lot of good food. ATMOSPHERE: Good stuff. So much fun! They had a singer and he was truly excellent. Then at some point they turned off ALL the lights and two waiters came out holding a huge tray with a whole pig on it and one of those firework thing that they always set up in the VIP areas of clubs when you order bottle service ? (Hopefully I'm making sense) Well they had that on the pig and they were bringing it to the middle of the restaurant. Everyone was clapping and making noise. The head waiter had a microphone and said that they would cut it like they did back then for the kings, he then grabbed a large plate and hit the pig in a few areas to cut it. Then he said "and to show you this is a real plate we'll brake it". He then slammed the plate on the ground and everyone went crazy cheering. There was so much excitement. It was full with many generations and everyone was enjoying the fun and food. It was great. Not sure if all this was just for Mother's Day but it's worth visiting. It's been around for more than 30 years and with good reason.

We live nearby this restaurant, and we've been talking about trying it out for quite a long time ... and we finally did last night. Being a Monday night, it wasn't too busy with plenty of available tables, and we were sat fairly quickly. They have a large bar and a set up for live music, probably for weekends I would think. Our server was very friendly, and informed us of the specials of the day, which included 50% off the sangria. We loved the basket of bread they brought... It tasted like the crust of a wood-fired oven pizza! We both had the sangria and it was delicious. Considering it was not a busy night, our food did take a very long time to come out, but I'm guessing it was made fresh to order. I was very happy with my dish, the Zarzuela de Mariscos. Very tasty! Would like to come back another time with a larger group, and order of one of their Paellas.

Overpriced for the amount of food given I had the oxtail with moro rice and sweet plantains. The taste was good, but the portions of the oxtail was way too small. It was one big bone and one small bone

This week I had the urge to eat fish. The owner served us a Spanish Sea Bass. Absolutely delicious. White meat with vegetables and potatoes.

We had a reservation for a party of seven, yet the host was unwelcoming, dry, and made us feel more like an inconvenience than guests. We were told to "sit down" with no warmth or hospitality whatsoever. The ambiance was equally upsetting. For a Spanish taverna, we expected a lively, warm atmosphere--music, conversation, and a welcoming vibe. Instead, the restaurant felt dead silent, stiff, and uncomfortable. It was so quiet and stuffy that we didn't even feel comfortable speaking with each other. We enjoy fine dining, but this was absolutely not that experience. After receiving water, we waited--and waited--with no service and no acknowledgment from any staff member. Despite being a group of seven, no one approached our table for quite some time. Eventually, we felt so uncomfortable and ignored that we all got up and left. Even my mom, who waited to let the staff know we were leaving, had to walk away because no one bothered to come over. This is not what anyone should expect from a local Spanish restaurant that calls itself a tavern. It lacked hospitality, warmth, and basic customer service. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a welcoming, relaxing, or enjoyable family dinner. Truly underwhelming and upsetting--especially for a birthday celebration.

Let's start with appetizers, the croquettes were great 10/10 and the plantain chips with cheese and chorizo were also good 7/10, however, from appetizers to actual main course it took about 1 hour for food to arrive. The pasta cooked on the parmesan wheel is the best thing in the menu 8/10, in my opinion. Unfortunately, we only ordered one of those and our party of 7 was more into risotto which was a total disappointment. The risotto with shrimp was a total disaster 0/10, the shrimp looked like the cooked shrimp wheel from Publix, no seasoning, farm raised and boiled on the side of a risotto that was about half a cup of cold rice. We ordered 3 of those and felt totally robbed. The black risotto was a bit better 6/10 but also cold. The seafood risotto was a 6/10 also cold. The dessert that hit the spot was the 3 leches 10/10. The balloons on the chairs flipping to one's head every time the door opened was also a total failure that made the experience not an enjoyable one. Then let's talk about the restaurant ceiling, which we ended up looking at since we had to wait almost 1 hour for our main course to arrive, the vents are nasty, you can see the accumulation of dust on the vents and the wood on the ceiling. Luckily we were seating on the area to the side of where the vents are, if not, it would have been totally disgusting to seat under that area to eat. We spent over $400 for a party of 7, 3 appetizers, 7 main course and 4 desserts. Overall I think the place is heavily overpriced given the mediocre quality of the food and it needs urgent attention to the cleaning of the ceiling.
