I want to start by saying this is the cutest speakeasy type of bar/restaurant. At the beginning, I got confused because the outside said it was a laundromat, but it's actually the restaurant, they did mention that many people confuse it for an actual laundromat. When you step inside you're greeted by a soft, ambient lighting, and great decor. For food and drinks we ordered off the happy hour menu and sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice and offered to help us choose the best drink based on our preferences. The drinks were refreshing. We ordered the short rib croquetas which were delicious. The chicken nuggets and caviar were a fun order, but I think you could skip on this because they seem like regular frozen chicken nuggets, it was still OK. I would definitely order the Korean barbecue skewers, which were my favorite. The tiramisu was huge but a little too sweet. I came to Amelia's before its facelift and now again after. The vibe is immaculate. It's got the quaint speakeasy vibe. I literally went to the wrong door because my husband thought I was about to walk into an actual laundromat. The restaurant is dimly lit and has an adorable 1920s vibe. The staff is extremely friendly! Everyone from the host the servers to the bartenders. The drinks were great and they were served beautifully. For food, we ordered the short rib croquetas which were really delicious! My husband got the airline chicken. It was good, but he felt it lacked more flavor. The oxtail, on the other hand, had a great flavor! I ordered the short rib ravioli. I don't know if it's normally like this or if there was a little slip in the kitchen but it was EXTREMELY salty. I'm usually one to add plenty of salt to dishes but this tasted like the cap of the salt shaker fell out while seasoning. Overall, I like this spot for a cute date night. At first we were a little confused when we walked up and the windows all said dry cleaning and laundromat etc lol ... im true "speak easy" fashion, you open the door and at first you think you're walking into a laundry service, but then quickly realize you're in the right place. From beginning to end, the experience was excellent. The attention, the professionalism, the ambience, the decor, the food, the drinks, and the overall vibe were all outstanding! Our server Sebastian was incredibly knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and he was very attentive, and very professional. For appetizers, the wife and I had the pork belly and the French onion soup. The pork belly was delicious and the French onion soup was very good (but our favorite is still the one at Foxs) ... For entrée, I had the Seco de Res Braised Short Rib / Tamal en Cazuela Risotto / Salsa Criolla ... I LOVED IT! I asked for a side of Maduros, because I've always incorporated them into tamal en cazuela (old habit). The wife had the fish of the day which was similar to Branzino, which came with brussels sprouts and potatoes. Good was amazing. It's a Cuban Peruvian fusion with a Korean twist and it HITS. The flavors are amazing all around. The food comes out as it's made and it's hot so not all plates may come out at once. The cocktails were also really good. You may think it's a small glass but our drinks were pretty strong. Service was great. We sat down before our reservation time and it was pretty full. The waitress was very kind and explained the restaurant as this was our first time there. Ambiance is so cute. I love how everything is decorated like if you were at a dry cleaners in the 1930s. Super cute, definitely somewhere to get more dressy it's not super casual. The music is a good noise level nothing too crazy. Only thing....literally only complaint from my whole table was that it was hot in there. It didn't feel hot initially coming in but once we sat down it just got hotter. I had to put my hair up when we started eating. Outside windows are lined with vintage cleaning signs and the door in is set up like then entrance of just that. Not so much speakeasy but themed. Lots of space in the inside but we sat at the bar. Honestly, we had such a great experience at Amelia's! From the service, to the food and ambience everything was just perfect. Food - let's just start by saying that this is probably one of the best oxtails I've had. The meat literally fell off the bone. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Paired with tamal en cazuela which was also super delicious. If you come here, you need to try this dish out. Service - both our bartender Kevin and server MJ were awesome. When you walk in you immediately feel like you're in Brickell or Miami Beach but luckily you didn't have to pay for the parking or the crazy drink prices. They have a great happy hour from 4:00 to 7:00 and then they have a late night happy hour that starts at 11:00 p.m. The mussels are outstanding as is their hummus and the filet mignon skewers. But what really shines in this place for me are the drinks! The bartenders are phenomenal and Kevin in particular has made an old fashioned that knocked our socks off! The manager Jasmin was so friendly and welcoming and the service was overall a big plus. The food: Portions are a bit on the smaller side BUT every bite was a 10/10. This spot is a hidden gem. It's located in the shopping center where Islas Canarias is in Tamiami. It's next to a dry cleaners, which tripped me out because the door to the entrance seemed like it was connected to the dry cleaners. When in reality it was like a speakeasy vibe when you entered. To start off I ordered an espresso martini, it was very good. Then we enjoyed these cute little shots of rum, I can't remember what they were called and I honestly forgot to take a pic but they were sweet and delicious. To eat we enjoyed the octopus that is charred, this was quite good. The frita was the fanciest frita I've ever had, it supposed to come with maduros but I opted out because I didn't want the sweetness. It came lathered in a cilantro sauce and melted gruyere cheese on the top of the patty. The brioche bun really took me off the edge, it was amazing. Then the fries were soo crispy, honestly perfect. Visited Amelia's for the first time for their late night happy hour. They had a lively band playing flamenco music. When you walk in you're immediately greeted by the host, the restaurant is dimly lit and gives a speakeasy vibe. We decided to sit in the back where they had a layout of antique sofas, where we enjoyed some cocktails and music. I had the Mezcal you later which was delicious and my fiancee ordered a Kentucky mule. I definitely see myself coming back here again. Went here for my birthday and honestly we were pretty happy with the overall of the restaurant. We got a couple of the cocktails. They were: Cereal Killer: 4 out of 5. This was advertised by the server that it's a dessert drink since "it is very sweet". Unfortunately, this drink wasn't THAT sweet as we thought and honestly not a dessert drink unless it was made wrong? Original Sin: 5 out of 5. This was honestly my favorite drink. The green apple was there and it wasn't too sweet but it was delicious! Paper Plane: 3 out of 5. It was ok. Appetizer: Croquestas: 5 out of 5 Tuna Tataki: 5 out of 5 Seafood ceviche: 5 out of 5 Entrees: Filet Mignon: 4 out of 5 the risotto did not blow me away just like the one from the Lomo saltado. Lomo Saltado: 5 out of 5 delicious entree! The meat the risotto was honestly amazing. Pork Cuban Katsu: 3 out of 5 but the pork on here was dry. Our server said the food is brought as a family style. Just wow! Went for my best friend's birthday this past June and had never heard of this place. My friend send me a reel from Instagram. It looked pretty cool so was looking forward to checking it out. The minute you walk in you can't help but admire all the decor. Gorgeous! We were a large party but the service was great! The flavors, the meat used, the broth. The combination was out of this world! Moving on to the "main course"- I ordered the Amelia's Frita and again one of the best fritas I have ever tried. Que delicia! A party in my mouth with every single bite. One of my daughters ordered the Lomo Slatado- she loved it!!!! The meat was tender and the risotto was a match made in heaven! It complimented it perfectly. My other daughter is a "steak person" so she had to try the Steak Frites and said the steak was juicy, tender and just melt in your mouth goodness. Oh and the fries- YUM! So crispy and sooooo good! Now the best part of every meal- DESSERT! I was tempted to order everything on the menu because if our meals were phenomenal I could only imagine what the desserts would taste like but we narrowed it down to the coconut cheesecake and Timba. My gosh. The Timba was like nothing I have ever tasted before. I died and went to Timba heaven for real! Wow. This is hands down one of the best Cuban desserts I have ever tried. Not saying the coconut cheesecake wasn't good. It was fantastic too pero the Timba stole the show for me!! This place is by far one of the best restaurants I have been to in awhile. I cannot wait to go back and explore the menu some more! If I could give this place 10 stars I would...it exceeded every expectation and is truly a gem in the unlikeliest of places: Kendall. Coming in, we were confused by the entrance...it looks like a dry cleaner but in wonderful speakeasy style you move past a curtain of dry cleaning garments and into a vintage style bar, with dim lighting, jazz playing and a decor that is simultaneous cozy and elegant. It's classy without being pretentious. But the FOOD. Wow. That was the word used over and over with each new bite, and everything--I mean, everything--was absolutely delicious. We had: Tuna Aguachile for appetizer: refreshing and delicious. The watermelon gave it an extra special touch of sweetness. Special of the day: fried snapper with Brussels sprouts. The little nuggets of fish were well presented, plated into a fried snapper. They did all the work for you so all you have to do is enjoy. The Brussels Sprouts (a generous portion) was amazing in a sweet soy glaze. I didn't think I would like this vegetable that much! The Boniato Gnocchi was delightful. I was concerned it would be too cheesy but this was the BEST gnocchi I've had. It came in a Rococo sauce that was never overpowering topped with a Parm crisp. It had the perfect Bliss Point--It left me wanting more, and I never say that about gnocchi. Cocktails: Penicillin: I was looking for something that wasn't too sweet and this was very refreshing. Dessert: Timba, a cream cheese mousse topped with guava and Maria cookies. Initially disappointed that it was served on a regular plate instead of the martini glass it usually comes in but it tastes lovely--not too sweet, and the cream cheese flavor was subtly sweet and not too strong. You would think it was a laundromat and the minute you walk in you were transported back to the 1800s we walked in and they had live music which really set the tone and atmosphere. We started off with the pork belly and tuna torta Both absolutely delicious. Then we had the Amelia Burguer, It was very interesting, but I felt like the chorizo made it a bit overwhelming. For drinks I had a pineapple margarita that was not my favorite and we also had a Piku machu? Can't remember the name but it was really strong.
