We visited La Taberna de Ignacio in Pinecrest yesterday for my birthday celebration, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from the moment we walked in. We had a reservation for a party of seven, yet the host was unwelcoming, dry, and made us feel more like an inconvenience than guests. We were told to "sit down" with no warmth or hospitality whatsoever. The ambiance was equally upsetting. For a Spanish taverna, we expected a lively, warm atmosphere--music, conversation, and a welcoming vibe. Instead, the restaurant felt dead silent, stiff, and uncomfortable. It was so quiet and stuffy that we didn't even feel comfortable speaking with each other. We enjoy fine dining, but this was absolutely not that experience. After receiving water, we waited--and waited--with no service and no acknowledgment from any staff member. Despite being a group of seven, no one approached our table for quite some time. Eventually, we felt so uncomfortable and ignored that we all got up and left. Even my mom, who waited to let the staff know we were leaving, had to walk away because no one bothered to come over. This is not what anyone should expect from a local Spanish restaurant that calls itself a tavern. It lacked hospitality, warmth, and basic customer service. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a welcoming, relaxing, or enjoyable family dinner. Truly underwhelming and upsetting--especially for a birthday celebration. read more

A slice of Spain in Pinecrest. Great authentic Spanish tapas and dishes. The restaurant is small but the menu is huge. During the week the restaurant is not very full. On the weekends there is live music and it may be a little harder to get a table without a reservation. The waiters are always nice and give excellent recommendations. read more

I've walked by this place many times but never ate here. Finally we came here for a besties date. It's cute and intimate. Our waiter was very nice and offered some great recommendations. To drink we had the red sangria which was very good but a lot on the sweater side. For appetizer we shared the garbanzo fritos. Soooo delicious and flavorful. Eat it with the bread. I had the parilla de mariscos. The seafood was so fresh and great flavor. Complemented by the potatoes. My friend had Iberian pork steak and it was good with the mashed potatoes. She didn't like the mushroom sauce. My friend ordered hot tapas. Shrimp which was very tasty. The croquettas de bacalao which was out of this world. Like a glamorous fish stick. And she also had the patatas bravos which's was great but sauce wasn't too spicy. For dessert we shared the tarta Santiago coupled with the helado de turrón which was amazing. Went in for lunch and had a lovely experience. The inside is decorated very nicely and bright. The service was wonderful very attentive and gave us great suggestions for example I was going to order the regular jamón croquetas and she swayed me into the ibérico one which she explained to be more flavorful not sure if I got the name right. Fried calamari was tasteful and filling let me go back to the croquetas omg soooo delicious and filling they were big and I loveeee croquetas so I really thought I would take them down but easily shareable with two people or even more. We were suggested to go with the huevos rotos which were fantastic nice flavor super filling and our waitress even carefully offered to mix it up for us I know it sounds silly but the way she did looked so craft full mindful while maintaining the presentation. My fiancé got the sea-bass which was very nice nothing was left at all he said the potato under the sea-bass was also terrific. We ended the meal with some creams Catalana which was delicious. as for drinks I got the aperol spritz so yummy and refreshing. They have another location in Hialeah and mentioned that Saturdays they have performers and dancers but advised to make a reservation because it gets full. I went with some friends early afternoon and were seated promptly. All of the servers were really nice and friendly. I had some questions regarding an upcoming event and they answered all my questions. The ambiance was really nice, even though it was early afternoon. We ordered a bottle of wine, and many appetizers- the cod fritters, the shrimp in garlic, the tortilla, and the fried chickpeas. All were delicious! Of course, they brought warm bread with butter. We came here on a weeknight and there was only one other table occupied. Service was friendly and attentive. Food wise I wish it would've been consistent. We ordered gambas al ajillo and bacalao croquettes.... croquettes were okay, but the shrimp was just greasy and lacked flavor. Pulpo a la gallega ... same very bland. Terrible experience at this place. We get to the restaurant and we see a bunch of empty tables and we ask if a table for two is available but the waiter who's blonde with light eyes gives off a bad vibe and tell us that we need reservation and they are completely booked for the night. I check on open table/yelp that there a bunch of reservations open and I book a 6:30 pm reservation. My partner asks the waitress that we were able to book but she states they are full for the night even tho many tables were empty but we give benefit of doubt and ask if theres any way we could sit outside. She states that if we want to we can, even though they had just stated before they were completly booked. We sit outside and ask for a paella and the waiter states in a very rude way that she can't do that there is no space to serve the paella, the reason why we wanted to come to a Spanish restaurant. Mind you we are the only people sitting outside and there are tables that could be put together to serve Paella. Or they could have just served us the paella in plates if it was that big of a deal. At this point me and my partner are frustrated because the waiter has made it impossible to be able to eat here. We stop ordering and take our service elsewhere. This Friday 10 of us went to La Taberna. Initially we were going to eat somewhere in Coral Gables or the Grove, but decided the parking would be a nightmare since we had 3 cars full of family. We were so glad to have found this neighborhood gem in Pinecrest! For Tapas we ordered: cod fritters, ham fritters, tortilla, clams in garlic sauce, fried calamari, and grilled octopus. Everything was fresh and tasty. My personal favorite was the grilled octopus. For dinner we ordered the rabbit, oxtail, fish, and steak. Again, all the meals were delicious. We finished the evening ordering the fried chocolate doughnuts and almond cake. At first, the doughnuts didn't look too special, but once you bit into it, the melted chocolate on the inside felt like heaven. Thank you to our amazing server. I forgot her name, but she spoke Spanish and English to us and all of her recommendations were spot on. My husband and I will be going back to enjoy a dinner for two. read more

I went to happy hour recently and enjoyed the creative cocktails and food. The restaurant is conveniently located within the strip mall in Pinecrest so parking is not a problem. We ordered the croquetas, octopus and chistorra. The prices for the drinks are outstanding however there are no happy hour specials for the food. I think this is something the restaurant should consider to draw more people for Happy Hour. I would like to return for the lunch specials which our server recommended. read more

We had the pulpo a la gallega for an appetizer and it was just like how they make it in Spain. We shared a 2-person paella castellana amongst the four of us just to try it. It was good but a little too much added salt. The filet mignon w mushroom sauce was AMAZING. A really nice cut of steak and cooked exactly how I like it. For dessert we split a slice of Tarta de Santiago--one of my favorite Spanish deserts. Really delicious, especially if you add the cognac on the side. read more
