I went here for the first time with my fam this morning. This restaurant is in Lakeside, and the patrons all seemed like locals. I've lived in East County for almost 5 years, and I don't think I'll ever get used to it. It = all things redneck. I saw a dude hop out of a giant dualie truck (which he parked backwards) wearing a cowboy hat and one of those huge belt buckles. You can judge a good breakfast place by the average weight and age of the people inside. Big/old people know a good breakfast. This place was really good. The decor was 50s/60s memorabilia and they had oldies music playing. They had a big menu for adults and kids. I got the Ultimate French Toast, which I thought was a little dry. My husband got the Club 67, which was a sandwich so massive the waitress offered to bring out another plate. The kids split the "Spanky" which was two big fluffy pancakes, eggs, and a piece of bacon. It was enough food for an adult. The waitress was attentive. The service was fast. The food was good. I can't wait to try something else. Check out the pics I posted. read more

When it comes to diner food, this is probably as good as it gets! Diner food is definitely not my thing, but if it's yours, this is a must go. I ordered Ginger's Veggie Club with curly fries. It was a huge portion and pretty good. I shared with my co-worker and between the two of us, we couldn't finish it. Service was outstanding! This is a support-your-community type place. The pancakes here are sure to make your morning a little better. I tried the apple cinnamon pancakes and I didn't regret it one bit. At times, I rate a restaurant breaking down individual components. This time it is all about the food. Bountiful portions of really good comfort food. I had a vegetarian sandwich that was so delicious and full of sprouts, avocado, and all the tasty veggies. My husband had a club sandwich of sorts with a side of steak fries. I didn't try the sandwich--it looked fantastic--however, I did munch on a couple of abundant steak fries. Yum!! The venue is rustic--this used to be Pernicanos back in the 1960s for older SD natives you know the reference. They painted and added some retro stuff to make it dineresque. If you are picky about pretty places to eat, this is not going to be your jam. Don't get Italian dressing with a salad because it is that gross gelatinous stuff. We loved it, and a solid diner/dive to enjoy a reasonably priced meal. Stop for breakfast prior to heading to the desert or AZ. read more

It has a smaller parking lot and can get pretty busy on the weekends, but the wait is worth it! I recommend coming on a weekday and getting the waffle fries that are perfectly crispy :) read more

Somewhat dumpy exterior. 50s theme inside with no shortage of Betty Boop, Marilyn Monroe and little red wagons. That seems to describe half the breakfast joints I've been to. What sets one apart from the next is the food. One of my pet breakfast peeves is under-buttered, cold toast. Today I was served hot pumpernickel/rye toast with ample butter coverage. That right there made it a good breakfast. My Cali omelet was big -- so big that I couldn't finish it. But the real star of the show was the breakfast potatoes. Ummmm... the best way I can describe how I feel about the place is "meh." It wasn't amazing nor was it horrible. It was just ok. The portions for the food is monstrous. I'm from Texas and I thought everything was bigger in Texas but I was mistaken. The only think I can say that was quite amazing was the biscuit. I truly appreciate the size of the biscuit. Very popular breakfast spot in East County/lakeside. Make a reservation if you can. The parking lot is small and so is the restaurant inside. Very old/diner feel. The portion sizes are HUGE! I cannot stress that enough. The omelettes are gigantic and are sharing size. Definitely come hungry! They are known for their biscuits and gravy, my brother had them and cleared his plate. Shout out to our waitress for making my sisters order right ( she's vegan and can't eat cheese). She took her tofu scramble back and got a new one in less than 5 minutes. Went to Downtown El Cajon, CA last night for the Friday night free concert. They had a fund raising raffle where some of the fantastic prizes were tickets for breakfast or lunch donated by Cafe 67. I was lucky and won two. So myself and daughter headed there for breakfast this morning and were pleasantly surprised. I had the Ultimate French Toast and yes it was as good as it looks! It was two huge fluffy cinnamon rolls dipped and fried in french toast batter with strawberries and whipped topping. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. It was a huge serving but I devoured. Our waitress and service was fast and friendly. This will become a regular thing and we will be back. read more

Finally got to give this place a try this past weekend. First off, I passed by the location to get onto the 67 South probably 50 times before realizing that this was a small diner. Anyway, a few months deep into the pandemic we decided to give the diner a shot for a Saturday morning breakfast. Arriving at about 830, the parking lot was very open even with the tents taking up about 1/5 of its total area. We were quickly seated, at a table of our choice, and warmly greeted almost immediately. Coffee was pretty good, as that was the only drink I tried. Ordered the California omlette with home fries and the croissant sandwich with a Monterey potatoe cake. Both portions were absolutely massive. The food was very delicious. I usually do not take leftovers, but we both ended up with enough food left over to have the next day. The only critique I would have is that there was a lot of cheese--if you like cheese on your food, this is definitely your kind of place. A little to cheesy for us, but regardless, very awesome food all around. This place really is a hidden gem and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a delious breakfast at a very fair price. I plan on coming back here very soon and I cannot wait personally. A quick side note, it filled up very quickly. By 9:00 it was nearly full and I believe there was a wait. I'm sure this is due to the limited seating outside but even at that, they seemed to fit many parties under their tents. The food was absolutely horrible. The coffee had no flavor tasted like hot water. Sausage gravy had no flavor it tasted like flour & water. The eggs were under cooked for scrambled eggs and omelette. We only ate a few bites and took the rest of the food home for dogs. I understand maybe one item not tasting good but everything is unheard of. The worst part was the meal was absolutely high priced for the type of food they serve. I wish we had went to IHOP at least I know what to expect. read more

Wow, that was some good eats!! Went here on a recommendation. I was a little skeptical because it's a diner. But boy, was I wrong! Everything is home made, and it shows. My husband had the Ricardo scramble with Monterey potato cake, he said it was the best breakfast he's ever had in East County. My turkey sandwich was on a home made croissant, and it was delicious. We live in Lakeside near Lake Jennings and had heard about "Cafe 67" on Mapleview. We decided to try it and went in early AM on June 7th since it was my birthday. Got there about 715am and it was empty so we had our choice of tables. Appearance was nice ... clean and very retro. And then the most wonderful experience started when Paula walked over to ask if we wanted coffee, tea, etc. Paula provided us the most enjoyable customer service experience we've had in a long while. And to top it off, the food was outstanding ... delicious and very generous portions. I come here fairly often because I love their food. I grew up in Lakeside and Cafe 67 has always been a part of the community. Usually the service is alright, but today wasn't the case. Our server was nice at first but I wasn't even halfway done with my plate before she brought the check and asked if we needed boxes. She kept coming to our table and asked if we're doing okay which obviously is what they're supposed to do, but it felt like she was trying to hint us to leave. I would understand if it was busy, but the whole cafe was empty. We weren't there near closing either. No one likes to be rushed when they're eating. I didn't understand why she seemed like we had to go so soon. They really do have the best waffle fries though. read more
