I haven't been here in years since the new remodel and everything. It was nice to go in, although there was such an unpleasant smell of a strong chemical. I don't know what they had just sprayed or what, but they really should have kept the door open and put some fans or something. It was bad. Stopped in to check this place out. I'm a BIG BREAKFAST GUY. Let me just say...I think this may be my new breakfast spot. Server was Bree, super friendly and very attentive. Ambiance was simple yet comfortable. Ordered the Popeye Omlette with country taters, 1/2 order bisquits and gravy and a short stack (told you I was a BIG breakfast guy!). Bree brought the food out hot, filled my coffee like clockwork. Omlette was delicious. Biscuits and gravy were really good( not as good as my granny's, but she was from the hills of Tennessee. No one can compete! Hint...PEPPA!) Short stack stacked up to the best of 'em. It was A LOT...but I finished all but a small portion of the biscuits and gravy which Bree packed up for me to enjoy later. I arrived on a Saturday at 1245 PM and was not rushed. I had immediate seating. When I came at 10AM there was a 2 minute wait. WHAT MEAL DO YOU SUGGEST? The food is just plain delicious. I used to eat here every week for 10 years when I lived in El Cajon. I stopped by after completing the Iron Mountain Hike.  I only order the Popeye Omelette with a pancake and hash browns. Gosh this food is so good. The hash browns are crisp on the outside and soft in the inside with a slight buttery flavor. So good, no ketchup needed.  And when I bring friends their feedback is similar with their meal choices. It's good.  WHAT IS THE ATMOSPHERE? I've been coming here for awhile but it's been a minute since I've come here. I ordered a stack of pancakes and a side of sausage. My friend ordered the cheese omelette, side of beans and tortillas. The sausage seemed over cooked but the pancakes were ok, nothing special. Problem was my friend's order. The omelette was super small with hardly any cheese. She said the cheese tasted off so she didn't finish it. I know times are tight for everybody patrons and businesses but our bill was $41 without tip. Best little secret in El Cajon!!! My husband and I went for breakfast this morning. We like to find not well known gems. And let me tell you, this place is amazing!! I had the eggs Benedict breakfast and coffee. Eggs Benedict is hard to pull off...but not here! It had the perfect buttery creamy tang that a Benedict should have. The poached eggs ran with perfection! My husband had the hash. He is a hash connoisseur and will not finish it if he doesn't like it. There was not a lick on his plate!! Bonny's is definitely way more of a diner than a cafe so if that's what you're looking for, you'll likely enjoy it here. It's decked out with decor that is reminiscent of the 50s with its retro posters and booths, so you know immediately this is your classic diner with all the fixings. I will say first that walking in is a little strange. When you go inside from the parking lot, you enter a small room that has a few chairs and a door. My friends and I were a little confused at first but I guess this is a waiting area. The actual restaurant is behind the door We came here on a Sunday morning around 10:30, so it was full and busy! Luckily, we didn't wait more than five minutes though I ordered the eggs Benedict with hash browns. It was delicious! I think the hollandaise sauce here is the best I've ever had. I remember going to places like this with my grandparents, it's nostalgic for me, I admit it. This is a no frills zone. You get friendly service and solid food. You can see the whole dining area from anywhere you sit. They've also got counter seating. There's street parking along with parking in a shared lot. There's an entrance from the lot or one along Broadway. You can seat yourself. I've never had to wait long for a table or for food after ordering. They have pretty good breakfast specials too. I was craving pancakes and our usual breakfast spots all had a 45+ min wait on a Sunday so we ended up here. We walked in and were seated right away. The restaurant is kind of dark with very little natural light, but the servers are bright, energetic and very attentive. We ordered the eggs Benedict and the chicken fried steak with a side of pancakes. The food was mostly good... except the potatoes. We tried the hashbrowns and country potatoes and both were so bland. The bell peppers and onions were so mushy and the potatoes soggy too. On the bright side, the chicken fried steak was seasoned well and the ham on the eggs benny was so thick!
