I've been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl and i'm still coming and everytime i've came back-it's remained the same. The friendliest welcome, the kindest employees, the fastest service you'll receive ANYWHERE, and the best food. Some of the same employees still work here since I was a kid. There was an owner switch a bit ago, but everything has remained just as it was before. This is genuinely one of the best restaurants of all time, and I will continue to go here as long as they're open and i'm alive. I couldn't recommend it more. read more

Everyone was so nice, the food was pretty good and the coffee was outstanding.. We go back two weeks later on a weekday and this experience wasn't even half as good as the last experience . $55 for breakfast for two is a lot of money. So when , the coffee was really bad this time , the food was just mid and the service wasn't quite as good because only one server runs the whole dining room on a Friday. Which came with 2 eggs 2 slices of bacon, a slice of ham, link of sausage, 2 slices of French toast, and home fries. Everything was good. My only complaint is the home fries was on the hard side. The server had us try the salsa verde freshly made and it was so bomb. They need to bottle and sell that thing. If I'm in the area I would come back to try other items in the menu. We arrived at about 11:00am, there as plenty of parking and no wait. The host pointed at a booth for us to sit at. We loved the old school vibe at the Cafe with all the knickknacks. A quiet young man came by to take our drink order.l, I got a coffee and my husband got a coke. Our server was Ramon and he was very funny, friendly and welcoming. I ordered the 3 egg build your own omelet with cheddar, olives, mushrooms, and ham. With my omelet I also received hashbrowns and toast. Everything on my plate was pretty good. I'm always a happy coffee drinker if they have good coffee and decent creamer, which this cafe had both. My husband ordered the French dip with French fries. He said the French dip was pretty tasty and he liked that the au jus wasn't overly salty and seemed to be made in house; which is a plus. First time checking out this place. A restaurant that has many nostalgic decorations such as Route 66 and a life size Elvis when you enter. Ramon was our server. He was AWESOME! The kind of decent human being that can cheer you up when you're down or just make your day by lifting you up with his own happiness! Thank you! We ordered the following .... I really was hoping for something better here with the good reviews, but it just wasn't there. The staff were very friendly and food was made quickly- hence the two stars. I ordered 2 each of the breakfast casserole special and basically a two egg breakfast with sausage and pancakes. Their prices that they show on yelp you can tell are outdated. As of July 2025 it says these were $6.95 +- on their yelp menu. I'm realistic. I knew they were outdated, but was expecting maybe $12 a plate. Nope. When I arrived they were $14.95 +. My total was more than $70 as I ordered 4 plates. When I called in the order they didn't tell me the total on the phone. They should update their prices in their yelp menu anyhow. Oh well, I thought. Maybe the taste of the food will make up for it I thought- nope! The food was very mediocre for the prices. The breakfast casserole had way too many veggies that devoured the measly 2 eggs that were there. If there were meat in this it would be ok priced but there wasn't. Wow. I can't believe that I have to say but I wholeheartedly recommend not eating here anymore. I'm a San Diego native who has eaten here at least 50 times in my life. What used to be a restaurant with quality ingredients, large portions, and reasonable prices is now no more. I am not sure who owns this restaurant now but this was arguably one of the worst breakfasts in years. I ordered a standard eggs Benedict with hash browns. I typically order this because it is a pain in the butt to make it home. The poached eggs were not even poached. They were hard-boiled on top of ham that tasted as if it were freezer burned and about six months old. That was on top of an English muffin that was soggy with no flavor. The hollandaise sauce had absolutely zero flavor to it. There is nothing in that hollandaise sauce that was even edible. The hashbrowns were soggy and obviously nowhere near what I had asked for which was a bit on the crispy side. They were pretty gross. While the manager in front of house was super nice and helpful, it cannot in any way shape or form make up for the shit show that was this awful breakfast. Look, I'm not some stuck up food critic and I know that we are all careful about our money these days and that is why I'm making this review. Never again. Please don't go here! read more

Our server was Conchita. She was fantastic. Highly recommend eating here even if you are just visiting the area! The breakfast was great. We had the steak and eggs and my son ordered a custom breakfast burrito. (Eggs, bacon and cheese) I took a pic of the half he could not finish. (Love leftovers!) The entire place is decorated with old antiques. It was fun showing our son some of the old things displayed. He loved the kaleidoscope that was at our booth!! This place is truly a treasure, and all of the smiles from the customers, including the staff, prove it. For over two decades, I've been enjoying their massive portions of food that are reasonably priced, as well as their excellent service. Tuna melt supreme ($14.75): this remains to be the "supreme" tuna sando, despite trying others' versions for the past 20+ years. I relish their surf and turf approach, as the bacon hits different. It adds that renowned salty pork flavor and crispy texture to the creamy tender tuna, 10/10 rating! I usually get this or the patty melt for brunch. Soup of the day - beef with vegetables (included with sando): the beef and veggies were tender; however, the broth was thin and bland, 6/10 rating. I normally would have gotten their mound of curly fries, but I could hear my doctor's voice saying I should skip the deep-fried side =) As I've previously mentioned, I highly recommend their patty melt, and I 100% agree with what's reflected on their menu as followed: "sources say this is the best tasting Patty Melt on the market." Our server, Ramon, is fast, attentive, comical, and a mnemonist. The hostess brought our drinks, and Ramon came by on my blindside to pretend to refill my full cup of water with coffee lol! He remembered me despite that I hadn't dined in here for about 10 years due to the location being far from my residence. I have been ordering take-out here on occasions, but I will definitely dine inside more frequently. As I write this review, I'm looking forward to my next visit. We had Breakfast on Thursday morning, the vibe of the restaurant was as expected, a lot details and pictures of an older era, great service and friendly staff right from the entrance, or server Conchita was amazing, she totally blew our expectations, she was friendly and fast, very attentive, she recommended the side to my Montecristo which was a potato cake, she described it so well and it was a given that I would choose it, I have to say, it was delicious and new to me. The ambience is old school antiques and old school seating. The customers seem to be mostly older but it may be because of being midweek and 9:30 in the morning. The prices have gone up since our last visit. They use to have weekday specials under $10. But now $11.99, still better than most other places and you get a full plate of food and need a to go box. Toast was burnt to a crisp and hard as a rock. With that kind of profit this cafe could easily pay waitresses more. The breakfast cost them roughly $1.50. Price goughing at its best.
