First time here and food was delicious and the coffee was very, very good. Getting that coffee refill was very difficult with how busy the servers were. As a coffee drinker you usually like one refill before your food arrives. A different waitress said they'd go and get us coffee, but never came back (forgot, which is understandable). Our waiter never checked on us until we flagged him down while he got coffee for the people next to us. Service was friendly, but lacking attention, and I wouldn't care to come again because of it, unless I was in the mood of being ignored or had an inkling to practice a lot of patience. The establishment could be a little less stingy on the payroll and hire at least one or two more people to help with the flow of customers. I read someone else's review regarding this same thing before coming here, so wasn't surprised, but still annoyed. It didn't seem like someone called out, and based on other reviews it seems that this is how they run the restaurant. Kids chicken strips were more like breaded filets, which I thought tasted good but my daughter thought it didn't (reminded her of fish sticks). I got the French toast trio, which was really good, although the crunchy French toast was too crunchy and dry and not that good (I wouldn't recommend it). Someone else got the lemon ricotta pancakes that tasted slightly like lemon, but there wasn't anything special with it besides powdered sugar on top and a couple thin slices of lemon. It'd be better with a lemon syrup or something. The pancakes are the size of your plate, or bigger than your hand for reference. Pretty full restaurant on a Wednesday morning during the summertime. Really loud too to where you almost have to yell across the table to speak. Usually annoyances are easy to deal with when you're served well. I'd recommend trying this place once, but I wouldn't care to come again, even though the food and coffee was really good. read more

The place is a nice spot for Santee families to enjoy on the weekends, and we really liked the atmosphere. However, the service could definitely be improved. I think it's understaffed, the employees seemed so busy and running around nonstop, which made the service feel slow and hard to find someone to talk to. It took quite a while to get a simple coffee refill, and our food also took much longer than expected. Unfortunately, when it finally arrived, it was cold. The biggest disappointment was that we ordered the Trio Plate (with the crispy French toast and the other items), but it never came and we had to leave so we cancelled. Overall, the restaurant has a lot of potential and a great family-friendly vibe, but better service and more attention to orders would make the experience much better. read more

The food was good but the portions are too large for most people, I would guess. The "short stack" of ricotta pancakes would have been enough for two meals for me. My wife could only finish half a sandwich. We are seniors, but I don't remember eating that much. I didn't see any senior offerings but the menu is large. I ordered a decaf coffee and it came barely warm enough and I had to ask for a replacement. Our server was busy but only slightly slow to get to us. She had to crouch down next to the table to be able to hear us and I'm sure she was very tired at the end of the day -- because that's the only unfixable problem here, the noise. This is another of those industrial chic places with no ceilings, hard floors, hard tables, no linen, etc. Easy to clean but I bet if you sang it would be like you were in the shower. There were some people outside that I saw on the way in but that area was full, and I bet the noise was why. Sound-absorbing ceilings weren't cute but they worked. read more

Kathy gave us 5-star service from start to finish! I recommend making reservations during the weekends, it gets very crowded here during breakfast. The parking lot is shared with Phil's BBQ so parking can get tight but there is parking available in the Target lot and the old Mimi's lot. The service was excellent the food and drink menu has depth, it is a plus that the breakfast was delicious. During this visit I got the short stack pancakes with blueberries on top, these were fluffy and fresh. Large enough to satisfy an adult. We also got the Ranchero Skillet, fresh avocado, loaded with Jack cheese. It was delicious and enough to feed two adults. I also got a vanilla latte, and OJ, both of these drinks were very good. There are seats at the bar that has sports on the overhead TVs. There is also outdoor tables. We'll be back. Enjoy! read more

The beans and the pico were awesome, the coffee was right on point but no coffee refill. In the Santee shopping center sits this grade A breakfast spot! I really liked this spot! Upon walking in you notice the decor right away, very well put together for a breakfast joint! Immaculately clean inside and out. Restrooms look amazing! Tables were all clean, busters stay busy and moving with smiles on their face. The bang for the buck here is it for sure!! Was very pleased with the portions of all plates! I had the mom omelette rich is loaded with greens and mushrooms, not everyone's taste but it's definitely mine! If you're gonna try to get healthy for the first day start this is not a bad choice!! DELICIOUS and flavorful!!! My daughter got the Cinni Stack pancakes and tore it up! My girlfriend's son had the Mickey pancakes from the kids menu, my girlfriend had the açaí bowl and they both loved them. The bowl was filled to the top. The service was amazing! We got the pleasure of dealing with Maria as our server. She was sooooo tentative and try welcoming!!! I will definitely be coming back not only because food but for Maria's service!! Had the weekend off with the family which doesn't happen often so we decided to have breakfast, I've been to a broken yolk maybe one other time and didn't remember liking it or not so I said hey let's try it again. Sunday, so of course super busy. We were told it would be about 30-45 minutes but we only waited like 20-25 which was cool. Our server, I'm forgetting her name unfortunately but she did have two braids and her name started with an R, so sorry I forgot your name, she was super friendly and got to us quick. I ordered the club with sweet potato fries, my wife the chilaquiles bowl and my daughter the grilled cheese. The food didn't come out too quick which was ok because when it comes out too quick I start to wonder if "Chef Mic" is running the show. My sandwich was great, I ordered it with sourdough, I tried the chilaquiles and the sauce was really good as well. Had a nice spicy zip, not too much not too little. My daughter enjoyed her meal as well. I forgot to take the photos until we almost finished so that was my bad. Our server was great, really on top of the drink refills. Broken Yolk Santee is a beautiful restaurant in Town Center, great location and easy parking. The layout is so nice and spacious and beautiful decorated. The staff was warm and friendly giving you that "Mom & Pop" feel with a craft food experience. Killer mimosa that was larger than life (just like their billboards advertise SIZE MATTERS!) Loved the flight choices, I got to try their mimosa flight. Very tasty and shockingly loved the grapefruit and lemonade choices (though pomegranate and original were good too). Our server Anthony made very nice suggestions on the menu through various selections. I chose one of the options he suggested "Pick 2 Benedict" and I'm so glad I did! I tried one of their infamous sope Benedict's and their chicken and waffle Benedict... wow! How unique and delicious! I will totally be back for this and there were so many other menu options to try. My new friend tried the Western burger and fries and he was surprised at how amazing the burger was and it was cooked to perfection. I can't wait to bring my fam and friends back to this location and can't wait to try other menu items! This will definitely be a new breakfast spot staple in my East County household! We came here because we were visiting from out of town and I saw they had good reviews. This place did not disappoint. First, the wait staff here is very friendly. You could tell they care for their regulars who eat here, because they greeted and hugged them as they came in. Our waitress was super nice and always made sure my coffee was topped off and she took the time to talk to us. The food was phenomenal. My husband loved his thin cut potatoes and I enjoyed my cinnamon toast brioche, which my husband also kept stealing from me. As for the vibe, it had a country chic style to it, that was really relaxing and fun. Very homie in the restaurant. Would I come back here? Yes I would. My husband is already plotting what he wants when he comes back to this location. The food is great, staff is welcoming, and it has a chill vibe here. It was absolutely delicious--the machaca was perfectly seasoned, and the sides were spot on. Key takeaway: The portion size was HUGE! Seriously, it was enough for two people, so we had plenty to share. Excellent value for the quality and quantity of food. I ordered the avocado toast, copy and pasted from their menu, "Thick sliced artisan grain bread lightly toasted and topped with fresh avocado, two poached eggs, and "everything but the bagel" seasoning". It is NOT fresh avocado. We are in California, come on. It's literally pre-made guac, like those single serving guac packs, smeared on the toast. So not cool! read more

We've been to the broken yolk in Mira Mesa and had a good experience there so we decided to try the Santee location. We were greeted quickly and sat. Our waitress was fantastic. Recent visit to Broken Yolk went smoothly as we joined the wait list through Yelp on the way there. By the time we found a parking spot and started walking towards the restaurant, we received a text that our table was ready. I ordered the Mom Omelette and added the patty sausage. The Mom omelette was tasty but it just had too much onion and tomato for me. I was hoping more spinach would be in it. I'll request that next time and maybe they can accommodate? My husband ordered the meat lover's skillet and said it was delicious as well but wished the portion size was bigger so he requested to add chorizo to it.
