I absolutely love coming to Broken Yolk! The service is always wonderful, the food is delicious, and the coffee is great. The staff truly make you feel like family--they are so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely seem to care about making sure you're well taken care of. The food is always so good! I especially loved the Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries--they were delicious! I also ordered eggs, hash browns, and sausage links. Everything was tasty and satisfying. The eggs were just a little warm, but they were still good. I also really enjoy the atmosphere here. It's calm, comfortable, and inviting, with plenty of comfortable seating. The restaurant is clean and has such a warm, welcoming feel. You can really tell that the staff care about their customers, and that makes such a difference. I always enjoy my visits and look forward to coming back. We enjoyed a really good breakfast at Broken Yolk in Santee on a sunny Sunday morning. We arrived around 9:45 and the dining room was already hopping pretty good. We are bar sitters and found the "hook" open, so we took our seats. Luke was our bartender/server for the day. Luke provided excellent service. Super friendly dude. We hope that your knee is fixed Luke! A mimosa for Becky and a Modelo "NFL" for me to start. Bex ordered the Meat Lover's Skillet. Diced ham, bacon and sausage sauteed with bell peppers, onions, and home fries. Topped with scrambled eggs, Jack cheese and green onion. I chose a side of Biscuits and Gravy as I knew I would be sharing in the skillet. After about a 10-minute wait, our food was delivered. It was piping hot fresh out of the kitchen. Bex decided that she wanted a side of sourdough toast, Luke had it to us in less than two minutes, despite his bum knee. The skillet was a very large portion and easily fed us both with plenty to take home. Every component of the skilled was excellent. From the breakfast potatoes on the bottom to the gooey Jack cheese on top. The eggs were scrambled and seasoned well. The biscuits were super dense and really tasty. The gravy was thick and peppery. I did not need two biscuits. I only finished one. Only One biscuit with an additional ladle of gravy would have been perfect. It had been a while since our last visit to Broken Yolk. My mom and I came here last week on Tuesday morning and it was pretty crowded. We were seated right away. I got a Californian omelette and my mom got cinna cakes. 8/16/2026 - we haven't been here in some time. I used the Yelp wait list app for arrival in 20-30 minutes for 2 persons. We arrived at 9am and it was already busy inside. Plenty of parking outside. We ordered a small stack of pancakes which when delivered were 2 huge piecesand a chocolate and strawberry crepe. Three nice size crepes. We were in and out in 30 minutes. Wonderful service. The lemon pancake had a weird flavor and shaped like they make a big batch and cut it in squares, not like an actual pancake. We had a pretty good experience at Broken Yolk Cafe. The wait time was pretty quick, and our servers were attentive and checked on us throughout the meal. The Ranchero Skillet was really good, the cinnamon pancakes were delicious, and the milkshakes were so good. The kids got the Minnie Mouse pancakes and really enjoyed them. The only disappointment was the steak and hash browns. The steak was pretty plain and didn't have much flavor, and the hash browns were also pretty bland. That was actually the meal I was looking forward to the most, so I was a little disappointed, especially considering the price. Overall, we had a good experience and the kids really enjoyed their food. I'd definitely come back, but I'd probably order something different next time. read more

The food was good but the portions are too large for most people, I would guess. The "short stack" of ricotta pancakes would have been enough for two meals for me. My wife could only finish half a sandwich. We are seniors, but I don't remember eating that much. I didn't see any senior offerings but the menu is large. I ordered a decaf coffee and it came barely warm enough and I had to ask for a replacement. Our server was busy but only slightly slow to get to us. She had to crouch down next to the table to be able to hear us and I'm sure she was very tired at the end of the day -- because that's the only unfixable problem here, the noise. This is another of those industrial chic places with no ceilings, hard floors, hard tables, no linen, etc. Easy to clean but I bet if you sang it would be like you were in the shower. There were some people outside that I saw on the way in but that area was full, and I bet the noise was why. Sound-absorbing ceilings weren't cute but they worked. read more

Kathy gave us 5-star service from start to finish! I recommend making reservations during the weekends, it gets very crowded here during breakfast. The parking lot is shared with Phil's BBQ so parking can get tight but there is parking available in the Target lot and the old Mimi's lot. The service was excellent the food and drink menu has depth, it is a plus that the breakfast was delicious. During this visit I got the short stack pancakes with blueberries on top, these were fluffy and fresh. Large enough to satisfy an adult. We also got the Ranchero Skillet, fresh avocado, loaded with Jack cheese. It was delicious and enough to feed two adults. I also got a vanilla latte, and OJ, both of these drinks were very good. There are seats at the bar that has sports on the overhead TVs. There is also outdoor tables. We'll be back. Enjoy! read more

Update: My friend and I have been coming to Broken Yolk in Santee every Saturday for more than 5 years. Every time my friend has ordered at least one order of onion rings, depending on the weekend, sometimes too. He loves his onion ring. I personally don't like onion rings, but they used to look so delicious I was tempted at times to order my own. However, recently, the quality of the onion rings has gone drastically down. See new photo posted below. We even talked to the management about it, and she told us that the restaurant has changed food benders and now the quality on several items has gone down. The quality has gone down so far he doesn't even order onion rings anymore. We can cook at home and there are plenty of other breakfast restaurants in Santee. With the quality of food so poor, we are considering changing breakfast places. I would suggest you do the same too. The other reason we come here is for the fantastic server Maria. We are two of her regulars and we always sit in her section. Sadly, we were just informed this morning, that she will be transferring to the Rancho San Diego location. My wife and I usually go to the Rancho San Diego one but just moved out to El Cajon and saw the reviews here at the Santee location were great so we gave it a go. On a busy Saturday morning they sat us in under 15mins and our server Ruth was attentive and quick. The menu is similar to other locations but the food was spot on. I got the Greek omelette and wish they would have chopped up the olives a bit but honestly that didn't take away from the quality. They have a separate bar and tvs with a bunch of sports on so the ambiance was top notch for a sports junkie. 10/10 read more

Broken Yolk Santee is a beautiful restaurant in Town Center, great location and easy parking. The layout is so nice and spacious and beautiful decorated. The staff was warm and friendly giving you that "Mom & Pop" feel with a craft food experience. Killer mimosa that was larger than life (just like their billboards advertise SIZE MATTERS!) Loved the flight choices, I got to try their mimosa flight. Very tasty and shockingly loved the grapefruit and lemonade choices (though pomegranate and original were good too). Our server Anthony made very nice suggestions on the menu through various selections. I chose one of the options he suggested "Pick 2 Benedict" and I'm so glad I did! I tried one of their infamous sope Benedict's and their chicken and waffle Benedict... wow! How unique and delicious! I will totally be back for this and there were so many other menu options to try. My new friend tried the Western burger and fries and he was surprised at how amazing the burger was and it was cooked to perfection. Had the weekend off with the family which doesn't happen often so we decided to have breakfast, I've been to a broken yolk maybe one other time and didn't remember liking it or not so I said hey let's try it again. Sunday, so of course super busy. We were told it would be about 30-45 minutes but we only waited like 20-25 which was cool. Our server, I'm forgetting her name unfortunately but she did have two braids and her name started with an R, so sorry I forgot your name, she was super friendly and got to us quick. I ordered the club with sweet potato fries, my wife the chilaquiles bowl and my daughter the grilled cheese. The food didn't come out too quick which was ok because when it comes out too quick I start to wonder if "Chef Mic" is running the show. My sandwich was great, I ordered it with sourdough, I tried the chilaquiles and the sauce was really good as well. Had a nice spicy zip, not too much not too little. My daughter enjoyed her meal as well. I forgot to take the photos until we almost finished so that was my bad. Our server was great, really on top of the drink refills. I think it's understaffed, the employees seemed so busy and running around nonstop, which made the service feel slow and hard to find someone to talk to. It took quite a while to get a simple coffee refill, and our food also took much longer than expected. Unfortunately, when it finally arrived, it was cold. The biggest disappointment was that we ordered the Trio Plate (with the crispy French toast and the other items), but it never came and we had to leave so we cancelled. We came here because we were visiting from out of town and I saw they had good reviews. This place did not disappoint. First, the wait staff here is very friendly. You could tell they care for their regulars who eat here, because they greeted and hugged them as they came in.
