Visited Broken Yolk yesterday after running some morning errands. Wait time wasn't too long around 30min. This location is surrounded by other stores/ target so we took the time to walk around for a little bit. Before we knew it it was time to head back. I opted for the buttermilk pancake combo which included eggs, bacon or sausage. I also decided to get the mimosa flight, which was delicious and refreshing. Just felt like breakfast today so I ventured into the Broken Yolk. I'd say it's all ok, certainly not stellar. I got the classic Benedict which had decent flavors however, the ham was much thicker than I like and the hollandaise was on the edge of breaking. I understand eggs Benedict is a difficult dish to master, but I just kind of expected a little more from a renowned brunch place. I will say the eggs were cooked perfectly. I've been to the Broken Yolk Cafe multiple times and so far everything I've tried has always been great. My favorite order has been the Monte Cristo! Absolute banger! The place itself is cute on the inside but just a little noisy. Especially on the weekends, this is usually when it's the most full. I had heard a lot of good things about this place, and walking in I was impressed--the restaurant was clean, and the service staff was courteous. Unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations. My hashbrowns, sausage, and omelet arrived lukewarm (if not cooler), with the biscuit being the only item served hot. Since the restaurant was busy, I decided to go ahead and eat my meal. Me and my aunt saw this place on a TikTok for best food spots in San Diego and man am I happy we went here. The food is so freaking delicious! The photos and reviews did not lie!! This place is EXTREMELY busy so definitely reserve in advance if you could or else you can see yourself waiting up to thirty minutes for a table. This place is in a shopping center so you can stroll around if you want to. But the food is definitely worth the wait! Service: The staff here are extremely friendly, funny, and fast! They have great recommendations, whilst also accommodating to customers. There was a child there who had gotten all A's on his report card and one of the servers got everyones attention and had made us give the child a round of applause which was very nice of that man! As for accommodation -- my aunt ordered a drink but she didn't know there was liquor in it and the manager took it off our bill and gave us another drink! That was very sweet of her! Food: Wild west burger [5/5] The burger was juicy and the sauces complement the sandwich well. Cooked to perfection and the onion rings were crispy and tasted so sweet they were absolutely to die for! Tiki Toast [5/5] This toast is FANTASTIC!! It tastes like heaven. If I could give this business 10 stars, I would. My all time FAVORITE breakfast/brunch spot. I have attempted to try other local brunch spots but I always find my way back to Broken Yoke. I have tried so many different menu items and they are all so good! I have never had anything that I wouldn't try again. The Mimosa & Bloody Mary flights are so delicious and poured with a good alcohol to mixer ratio. Service is immaculate even when they are very busy (typically more Fri-Sun). They keep their restaurant and restrooms very clean, I have never experienced otherwise. I recommend signing up for their rewards program, it is free and I am always getting money off of my order. I have been to the Dowtown San Diego location, El Cajon location & Santee location and I can speak the same for all 3 locations!! But Santee is my favorite! 10/10 recommended. read more

It was a Saturday morning when we decided that we wanted some breakfast. but didn't want to cook it. Off to Broken Yolk we went. We found two seats at the bar where Emily was our friendly and cute barkeep. Mimosa for Becky and a breakfast beer - Modelo - for me. After perusing the very extensive breakfast menu, I landed on the Belgian Waffle $11.95 and made it a combo by adding scrambled eggs and two sausage patties for $5.25 extra. Bex ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with scrambled eggs, home fries and sourdough toast $17.95. The waffle was as delicious as it was huge. It had a nice crispy exterior that gave way to an excellent soft interior. It had a dusting of powdered sugar and a dollop of whipped butter. I really wish they served it with warmed maple syrup. As it is now, the syrup is in the condiment tray with the ketchup, etc. on the table/bar at room temperature. My scrambled eggs were on point. Fluffy and tasty. The bottled hot sauce on the table was excellent and gave the eggs a nice boost. The sausage patties, unfortunately, were regrettable. They were wafer thin and tasteless. They were just thin, grey meat discs. Typically if given the choice I prefer patty to link. I would not get these again. Becky's meal was really good. The eggs were fluffy and tasty like mine were. We both love Broken Yolk's take on home fries. Potatoes cut into slices. A nice crispy brown edge. Seasoned well, very good. The CFS was breaded and fried perfectly. Tender, not at all dry. The sausage gravy left a little to be desired. Definitely could be more peppery. One shouldn't have to add pepper to sausage gravy. Bex mentioned that it should contain more sausage bits as well. Not quite as good as it was during a previous visit. Also they could be a little more generous with it. I'd like it to cover most if not all of the steak. The toast was plentiful and properly toasted. We had to ask for jam/jelly though. Portion sizes were huge. Emily provided solid service. The "DirecTV" screen saver bouncing around the screen on the TV at the bar was annoying. Tune into sports or turn if off. LOL! read more

Met a friend here for breakfast. She had injured her wrist in a fall evacuating a hotel during a fire alarm. Unable to use her right hand she asked if they could cut her avocado toast. We had a party total of 8. We had a reservation and they noted about an 2 hour wait - so we left to drink at another bar to come back. This is by far completely our own fault by the way. But when we got back, they had called our name and our reservation was given up which sucked so we re-enlisted or whatever. The host or manager understood our situation and they were able to accommodate all 8 of us by getting these 2 open tables (one set inside and the other next to it but outside). So it was pretty cool how they still fit us in - we had to wait a little bit more which is understandble. The food was pretty good - I can't say its the greatest but it isn't the worse either. I got the Monte Cristo. It was my first Monte Cristo ever and oh my lanta my sweet tooth ass was lovin' every bite. And I got a mimosa flight which was fantastic. All the sugar in the world and what more could I ask for? If you've never had a Monte Cristo before, I suggest it if you have a sweet savory tooth. Big screen TVs for football, particularly today, wild card playoff day! This BYC has outdoor seating, indoor outdoor bar area, it was made for it to be a hang out as much as it is to be a breakfast place. So if you're looking for a cool place to hang out in East county look no further than this broken your Cafe cause it's a bit different. If there are any others like out there I don't know of any other ones I've been to several of them around Southern California, and this one is unique. The menu was great! Breakfast items, of course however, it also had burgers and steaks and açai bowls, what!!! my BLT sandwiches was the bomb,I had to pay a little extra for the avocado but was well worth it!
