Visit March 2026: Side bacon and eggs
Jeff R.

Visit March 2026 Recommended by my brother-in-law who had picked me up at Fix Auto Santee (see that review if you need a body shop). Janet's has a small town diner vibe. Walk in, cheerfully greeted from across the counter, pointed to a table to sit. It was morning so breakfast menu. I zeroed in on Granola French Toast and made it a "combo" adding on bacon and eggs. The bacon and eggs tbh were nothing special but dang that Granola French Toast was so good. Thick slices of bread and the granola crust added to the texture. It was already sweet so I didn't need to add anything else like syrup. Got a cold brew which was good. Place was clean and at the time of visit not too busy. I enjoyed that they greeted a couple of elderly regulars by name. They have a display case loaded with muffins, pies, and pastries to choose from as well. A good stop in the area

All star salsa, homemade!

Janet's wipes all competing local competition out of the water. The Trails, Jimmys, Brothers, Pattys, all of them are maybe 2 stars compared to this 5 star. The best parts are food quality and hospitality. It's hispanically owned and operated in Santee. This is a power move and they are successful on every level. I rate breakfast on all the tiny pieces. How is the quality of their sausage, the mushrooms, the avocado. These smaller items add to the big picture. All of them were perfect. The custom omelette I ordered had 3/5 of the items and the owner said he'd double up on the avocado and mushrooms. Yes please! The interior of the restaurant is smaller but quant. The bathroom, while the hallway looks rugged is nice. Nicer than the trails! We live in Del Cerro so this is a bit far for us but when we hit Santee (now referred to as Mission Valley 2) we will stop here for breakfast if we can. Highly recommend.

The service at Janet's is always great. Came in for something small, but got a huge serving! The food is so comforting and comes out quickly. I was able to get seating outside which I love. I would recommend coming here because it's one of the good breakfast spot! They even have a couple seats outside in the front. Very cute!

Food is prepared good and is delicious. Onion rings are great. Service with a smile. Ambience is cafe style a little loud at times they are very busy.

Massive cinnamon roll to go with

I was searching for a restaurant that allowed pets since I am a new puppy owner and was not near my home. I am so glad I found this place. They welcome pets in their big back patio which is conveniently near the restroom and has a side gate in case you need to take your pet out for a quick walk. Service was great and the food was very delicious. They serve big portions. Their ranch dressing is one of the best I've ever had. I also ordered their cinnamon roll which is massive and shareable. They are a little pricey but I would definitely come back.

We brought our pup to Janet's for breakfast. From the minute we checked in the staff was super friendly and accommodating. We had veggie omelettes that were delicious and I had a cranberry muffin that was divine. We will definitely be back!

Country Omelet - Smoked Bacon, Cheese, I added Ham, smothered in gravy with a side of hash browns.

My wife, child and myself visited here for breakfast this morning. We love to sit in the back patio area whenever we come, there is adequate shade and air flow to keep cool on warmer days. Shortly after being seated a nice waitress brought a plate of fruit for our daughter to enjoy while we decided what to order. My wife ordered the kids ham and cheese omelet with an everything bagel and cream cheese, they were able to replace the toast that comes with the omelet with the everything bagel so we did not occur an additional charge. I ordered the country omelet which comes with smoked bacon and cheese and is smothered in gravy, for an additional $0.50 I added ham to it. My omelet came with a side of hash browns and 2 fluffy pancakes. Overall the food was delicious, the only side not was it was heavy on the salty side. I enjoy saltiness but others would definitely consider this too salty. Still the food was great, prices are decent and service was immaculate. Definitely recommended this family friendly diner and when done you can enjoy a nice walk at Mast Park right next door!

Every dish that came out was hot, well-presented, and tasted like it was made with real care. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. What really stood out to me was how clean the entire place is. From the tables to the floors to the restrooms, everything was spotless. That alone makes a huge difference when you're enjoying a meal. And the service? Top tier. Lupita went above and beyond. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in. She made sure everything was perfect, checked on us at just the right times, and had such a positive attitude that it elevated the whole experience. Great food, clean environment, and outstanding service. I'll definitely be coming back -- and asking for Lupita again. Highly recommend.

I chose the ruben sandwich because I didn't trust the monte cristo description of being Grilled and not battered and deep fried as it should be. Jimmy's does have a good selection of pies and desserts. Cherry pie, Cheesecake, carrot cake, pecan pie. Our order, 2 pepsis, 1 burger, 1 reuben and 2 cherry pies for lunch came to $78 w tip. Our server Jose A. was very good but the sodas were $4.69 EACH. As adults, I think we all know now that soda costs Pennies for a business. If our bill had been $25 less we might go back....but It was NOT worth $80.

Inside the shop they allowed people to bring their own trading card collection to trade with each other. They had specialty drinks made specifically for the show, Pokemon themed. There's a good amount of seating inside and seems like a good place to hang out or study. They have different books and board games around the shop too. I tried two drinks when I came. I got the coconut matcha because it was one of the themed drinks but wasn't impressed with it. I probably should've known better than to order matcha at a coffee shop but I'm a sucker for coconut. For my second (redemption) drink I got the Samoa which was a mocha, coconut, and caramel latte. This one was delicious. It had a great coffee flavor with a nice smooth caramel companion. It wasn't overly sweet and not bitter at all. The baristas were all great too. My drinks came out quickly despite it being busy with the show. Definitely a great coffee shop to check out!

Becky and I are not well versed in the world of fancy coffee, so we typically rely on those we are with to provide recommendations. Saturday we were on our own. We wanted a late afternoon pick-me-up and Kaffee Meister is a very short distance from our house. I walked in and was warmly greeted by the pleasant young woman behind the counter (I did not catch her name). I asked for two caramel iced coffees. She very nicely and patiently explained to me the different options of my generic "iced coffees" term. Lattes, cold brews, espressos, etc. Her recommendation was Caramel Frappes, so that is what I ordered. One with whipped cream (for Becky) and mine without. As I waited, I looked around the room. It was really cool. Very homey, neighborhood cafe vibe. A few tables and a couch and comfy chairs along with some tables and chairs dotted the room. The room was really nicely decorated. I liked the spiral staircase shelving. They have some outdoor seating as well. In addition to coffees, they offer a food menu. Pastries, bagels, açaí bowls, sandwiches and the like. I drive by Kaffee Meister almost daily and often I will see that they have live music which is cool. I waited maybe three or four minutes for my name to be called, and I was handed my two frappes. I like a simple cup o' Joe. Black, no sugar, no sweeteners. At home I drink Kirkland brand ground coffee from a drip coffee maker. That said, I really enjoyed the Caramel Frappe. It was not too sweet and retained subtle coffee flavor. Becky very much enjoyed hers too. Neither of us had ever had a frappe before. We were surprised by the milkshake-like creamy texture. They provided the perfect pick-me up we were looking for. About 17 bucks after tip. We'd return for sure.

So we got back a second time and sit down to order, "Chicken and waffles please" - they are out of chicken. Oof! Strike 1. That sucks. She was disappointed but she got something else and we shrugged it off. Then about 2 weeks back we came in again... this time I asked first, "Do you have chicken for the chicken and waffles?" They are out of waffles. Oof! Strike 2! And isn't it just batter? I don't get it. We didn't stay that time because my daughter was visibly sad this time. So I think we are done trying or else this just becomes a running gag we try to get out of, like Groundhogs Day or something... Atmosphere: It's cozy inside. I love all of the details, like the wood carvings and all of the bear stuff. It's like you're in a log cabin. And I like that they have paper menus and throw them away (because plastic reusable menus are germ magnets). The newspaper-esque theme is pretty cool too. Price: It's no more expensive than say, Dennys or Ihop. Middle of the road and they have lots of options. A decent meal for two - 50$. Service: Each time we have been, the servers have been great. Nice servers and even when the guy had to tell us they were out of chicken, he was super apologetic. No complaints on the service. Overall: It's a nice place... when they have the advertised food. So I honestly don't know if we will be back or not. Maybe we will give it a shot but I don't want my daughter to be disappointed again. I get it, if it was something they only made 50 of a day, I'd understand. But... chicken and waffles? Hmmm...

There were several quirky cute diners in the area so it was tough to choose. Ultimately, Izzy's menu excited me more than the others. I love the barbecue brunch thing going on, too. Very unique and we totally would've tried some ribs had we not gone to Phil's for the first time the night before and had a ton of leftovers. We split a Country Benny and the Jalapeño scramble, which had their homemade pulled pork in it. Julie was an outstanding server. Super patient, attentive, and helpful. You can choose muffins or coffee cake (only $1 extra!) instead of toast, which I love by the way, but I really appreciated that she asked if I had tried the coffee cake because it's not what I thought it was. She explained it as more of a vanilla cupcake with nuts and white icing? Which is kinda random that they call it coffee cake, but it made us opt for the zucchini muffin which was definitely the right choice. Moist, warm, and delicious to nibble on while we waited for the rest of our meal. She also asked if we needed anything else, like salsa, when our entrees came. Which, I usually alwayyys have to request but she was 2 steps ahead of us. The Bloody Mary was tasty and just strong enough to start our afternoon. I'm a huge sucka for biscuits & gravy and theirs really hit the spot. The sausage patty was so good and definitely homemade. Perfectly poached eggs harmoniously smothered in yummy gravy and fluffy biscuits. Crispy hashbrowns, great country potatoes. The scramble was good, too. Pulled pork had a nice smoky flavor and I've never seen nor had it with eggs before which is awesome. The portions were just right. Not huge, but we got full and everything tasted great so what more can you ask for? The deep fried pie! Duh. Super bummed we didn't take a peach one home...
