Really like this place -- it's always clean and has a ton of great options. I find myself stopping here often, especially when I'm passing by the nearby Home Depot. I usually build my own meal, and when I'm trying to go for a slightly healthier option, I get a double grilled chicken patty with double American cheese on a wheat bun. It was very crowded even on a Thursday night! We showed up hoping to catch happy hour, but the line was so long that happy hour ended before we could order... boo. We ordered a couple salads, wings, and two beers. The food came out before the drinks, and we actually had to ask about the beers since they hadn't arrived yet. The food itself though? I can appreciate the attempt, but seriously it's 3/4 rice, hardly any corn and beans, and they can't even mince the cilantro. All of this separate from the abysmal amount of meat in the bowl. One of my favorite burger places in San Diego! The Stand is absolutely delicious & so worth the money. Prices are pretty reasonable to me and their portion sizes are great. This location has always been reliable. I've only ever had one hiccup here but the manager fixed it immediately. There's indoor and outdoor seating, both are clean and comfy. There's also seating at the bar, inside and outside, that's good if you're coming alone. The beers on tap are always cold and tasty. There's a good variety of food without being too overwhelming. Their burgers are obviously the best part, they're cooked so perfectly and the burger sauce they use is heaven. I highly recommend this location! read more

This place is a vibe. They have outdoor seating as well as indoor. There's a bar that connects the two areas. There are high top tables, booths, and regular table seating. They have a few TVs around the restaurant where you can catch whatever game is on. There's also plenty of seating and it was easy to find a table on a Friday night. You start by ordering at the counter and they bring your food out to you. The servers were easygoing and nice. My husband and I got the onion stack burger, the southwest chicken sandwich, chili cheese fries, and the short rib fries. The burger and the sandwich were delicious. The burger was nice and juicy with a good bbq sauce and crispy onions. I really liked how the sandwich had different toppings that you normally don't see on a sandwich, like tortilla strips, corn, and beans. I got the guac on the side because I'm allergic to avocado so the chicken was a tad dry but tasted really good still. It had a really nice grilled taste to it. I felt like both of the fries were just okay. They were a little soggy being covered with toppings and honestly I think the regular fries would've been better with the extra sauces we got on the side. The sauces were really good and I love that they aren't an extra cost. My favorite sauce was the Meyer lemon aioli and my husband really liked the sweet chili aioli. Lots of option is great in my opinion. Shane was really nice and gave good customer service, he answered all our question since it was our first time there and he was very thorough in explaining which direction to follow to get drinks and then flow out to the outdoor seating area. Sublime. That's how I describe this sandwich every time I take a bite out of it. It's available at an informal joint called The Stand in the Carmel Mountain area of San Diego. We used to come here regularly when it was the GRUB Burger, so it is hard not to make comparisons. Overall, the food at The Stand was tasty and prices were reasonable. I would definitely come eat here again if I am in the neighborhood. - French Onion Soup Burger ($13.25): This was the best and most unique burger on their menu. The bun was so soft and fresh. The meat patty (which we ordered well-done) was juicy and packed with flavor. The additional au jus was an explosion of savory umami broth. I definitely would recommend that everyone try this. - The Onion Stack Burger ($12.75): This was a yummy burger too (same flavorful and tender meat patty, soft bun), but nothing too special compared to BBQ cheeseburgers at other restaurants. I was debating between this one and the Havarti shroom burger, & I kind of wish I had tried the shroom burger instead because it definitely sounded more interesting. - Onion rings regular ($4.99): Very crunchy batter with tender onions. I would definitely recommend including this as a side. - French fries regular ($3.75): When our order came, I was like "is this a portion size of fries for ANTS?" We signed up for their app, which allowed us to get a side of fries for free, not sure if that was why the portion size seemed so small. We were permitted two sauces. We ordered stand sauce and ranch sauce, which were ok. I wish I got to try more sauces. I miss the sauce stations that GRUB Burger previously had. We love the outdoor patio, it's spacious and a great place to watch sports when there's a game on. They have really good "fire fries" and the BEST spicy cucumber margaritas. We ordered an abc burger, chicken club sandwich, large side salad, large red ginger green beans, sweet potato fries and lemon meyer aioli, and an orange cream soda float. Both the ABC burger and the chicken club sandwich were served on delicious brioche buns. We appreciate that the chicken was light on salt, and you can always add a sauce (for free) and choose your own adventure. We enjoyed the chicken sandwich more than the burger, due to its smokey char and a more complex combination of flavors. Nothing wrong with the burger, it's a safe choice. We love the green beans! It's charred and then topped with a sweet chili and gingery sauce. The large side salad was an easy way to make sure we get some more greens in. I've eaten at The Stand at other locations when I lived in LA. I love a place with a good hearty salad. The Cobb chop is full of proteins. The only complaint I have about the salad is that the chicken is dry. I do need a lot of dressing to cover that. But the huge bacon bits are welcomed. I haven't had the burgers so cannot tell you how they are. I do, however, love the fries! When you join the rewards program, the app gives you a free fries. I especially love the various sauces you can request. The jalapeño aioli is a must-order. I can't take much spice but find myself enjoying it tremendously. It goes beyond just spice. You can taste the savoriness of the jalapeño. One thing I want to mention is that there is this one server there that is selective with who to be nice to. The dressing was a spicy Thai dressing but it wasn't spicy to me at all. I liked the citrusy taste. It had cucumbers, tomatoes, red bell peppers, avocado, fried onions and red onions. We were in the area on a Friday night after our team visited and beat Poway high school's football team. I'd venture a guess we were the only patrons in the place not from the immediate area. The place was packed and loud. You had to be on your game to snag a table. You order at the counter and take your number stand and display it on your table. The crowd seemed like neighborhood residents enjoying adult beverages from the bar. Some of the engineer type looking patrons seemed thoroughly starting their weekend with a few beverages while their kids played on phones and iPads. There were many varieties of additions you could add to your burger but IMO they just seemed the four variations we tried meh. We tried the fries and their fire fries. The fire fries were tossed in fire sauce which was uniquely tasty but made the fries very soggy. The kind of soggy making a fork necessary. IMO the fire sauce would be better served as a dipping sauce. Would I eat it if I showed up to a football game and another family had been thoughtful enough to pick it up and generous enough to gift it to me? Yes. Would I pick this place to reciprocate to the same or another family next season? No. It's too pricey for what it is and oddly the counter workers think they're cooler than you while working at a burger counter. I don't think that should be on the screen at all if there's no service being provided because then it becomes awkward to choose no tip while the cashier is staring right at you. Been here a few times and overall pretty great. They have a lot of food to choose from on the menu. I've tried the Short Rib Grilled Cheese, BBQ brisket sandwich, and the Chinese Chicken salad. Everything was delicious with the short rib grilled cheese as my favorite. The salad was huge and well dressed. The BBQ brisket sandwich had a lot of flavor as well, but unfortunately some parts tasted burnt. They also serve alcohol at their bar which is a huge plus! Although great food, this place is a little pricy. Their sandwiches and burgers don't come in meals or combinations so you have to order any sides, like fries, and drinks all separately. The bummer part was actually the sweet potato waffle fries. They were undercooked and soft - not crispy. Their side of chips come with guacamole, which I think is better than the fries.
