My boyfriend, friends, and I are regulars at The Hills Bar and usually come here 1-2 times a week. We've always enjoyed the food, drinks, and arcade area, which is why tonight's experience was so disappointing. A youth baseball team from Casa de Oro Little League ("The Party Animals") appeared to be having a team celebration here, and the situation was completely out of control. There were roughly 30 children, ranging from about 5-11 years old, running throughout the arcade and bar area. Kids were climbing on virtually every game, including the pinball machines, basketball games, skee-ball, baseball games, beer pong tables, and Dance Dance Revolution. They were screaming at the top of their lungs, throwing coasters around, hitting people, and even knocking over drinks at nearby tables. What made the situation worse was the complete lack of supervision. Many parents were outside while the kids ran wild inside, and the few adults who were present did not seem interested in correcting the behavior or intervening at all. I understand that servers and bartenders are not babysitters, and I don't expect them to parent other people's children. However, at some point management should have stepped in. This wasn't normal kid behavior or a little extra noise--it was genuine chaos that was impacting other paying customers trying to enjoy their evening. We've always liked The Hills and have spent a lot of money here over the years, which is why it's so frustrating to write this review. Tonight was easily the worst experience we've ever had here. If management is going to allow large youth sports parties in the future, there needs to be some expectation of supervision and basic respect for other guests. This place is'a changin! It's always been a great little hometown bar/ watering hole. It's growing though and while that means prosperity it also means a different feel. The bathroom remodel is nice...not like a bar but like mini-Vegas nice. Weird that they closed the garage doors out front at 815pm! I understand noise ordinances but like 9pm would be cool. I always enjoy my time at the hills such a fun family friendly crowd, best place to watch the padres play and hope for a win cause they have power hour $1 beers if the padres win, the pretzel and beer cheese appetizers are my favorite although everything on the menu is good. Such a great spot for la mesa! We came on a Fri at 3 around 4 and it was bumping! They have a small patio in the front, a decent amount indoor space and a larger patio out back that is connected to their small parking lot. You probably have better luck finding street parking. We came for their happy hour which was $5 drafts. They have a huge selection of beer! Such a great deal. You can order at the bar or via QR code and they bring your drinks out to you. First time visiting today. Our gym hosted a social gathering on the back patio. It was definitely a fun hangout spot. The arcade looked pretty cool, although, we didn't get a chance to play any of the games. For service, everyone just ordered at either of the bars/registers, and they gave each order their own number to deliver the drinks and food to the tables - pretty straightforward. I ordered the California Burrito. It was really good!!! It was very cheesy in a good way. Salsa had great flavor. I really liked the tortilla they used as well. I've been coming here off and on for the last six or seven years or so, but lately it's been calling to me. I stopped by about a month ago and had a beer, looked at the food menu and decided I'd come back at a future date and try one of the burgers, which I did. After running a few chores, I came in for a late lunch and ordered an IPA, can't remember which one but it was really good. You have the option of a 16 or 20 ounce and of course I opted for the 20 ounce. After a bit, I was ready for my second beer and ordered the Diablo Burger... So good! It offered plenty of heat with grilled jalapeños, Serrano onion, jam, Serrano aïoli, and other spices. Combined with really good tasting onion rings I would call this a successful stop. I will add that the staff, bartenders, and others at the bar all seemed really nice and it felt good to be there like a neighborhood watering hole should feel. I noticed the arcade next-door, but didn't take the time to go in however heard some kids in there having a great time, I resolved to bring my grandkids back with me. Seating inside is somewhat limited, but offers patio seating in the front and a huge area in the back with tables and awnings and umbrellas to support lots of folks. Wife and I were in the La Mesa area and decided to drop in at the The Hills Pub. Our server Cynthia and later Nirvana provided great, friendly, and attentive service. There were a lot of tvs that had sports being played and overall the feel and ambiance were very nice. We started with the Kung Pao cauliflower and they were delicious. They had a nice crispness to them and a sweet tangy flavor that we both enjoyed. As far as our main course we ordered all 3 of their sliders: beef patties, banh mi styled pulled pork, and chipotle chicken. All were served on. Hawaiian rolls. My favorite was the chipotle chicken. Next was the beef patties and the banh mi pork just didn't do much for me. All in all we had a great time, great service and great food. We'll definitely be back! read more

They are all about happy, friendly, workers providing excellent service and great food. Never a disappointment or dull time at any of their establishments. They have a spin the wheel thing that is in effect during happy hours, offering limited time deals on drinks and food. More places need to take note of this for sure! Sometimes it really is the small things that make a difference. They recently expanded the back area, and now even has a separate back bar too. This was the right idea since it's packed here 90% of the time. Known for their burgers, but the little lakesliders are the best around! It has been years since I had the full size burger, so I'm definitely due for one. We get the buffalo chicken fries every time too, just hard to resist these. I was at The Hills for my first time last fall and had a great experience, but I returned a few weeks ago and unfortunately had to update my review to mach my experience. This time, I met up with a group of friends at 11 AM on a Sunday for brunch. Just like before, I liked the ambience, as the outdoor area his family and dog friendly, with several large groups enjoying the day. First, I was surprised that they don't have a brunch menu. The only brunch Item I saw on the menu was the breakfast burrito, but the menu was no different than any other time. I suppose we should have looked at the menu before going. We started out ordering mimosas. They brought the bottle in the cute little cooler jacket that they use, but unfortunately, in the heat of the La Mesa summer, they really need ice buckets this time of year. Also, last time, they let us choose from a variety of juices for the mimosas and gave us plenty. This time, we went through three or four bottles of champagne with our group. Each time we ordered a fresh bottle, we had to find staff, which were really hard to find, to get any juice at all. When we got juice, it was just about a half cup of warm orange juice. For food, I ordered the beets, Brussels, and bleu salad without the Brussels with chicken. The salad was decent and it was nice that they could make it without the Brussels. It was a hot and sunny day. They do have some sun coverings, but it was still difficult to sit comfortably outside. Maybe it is a nicer venue for evenings or cooler weather. Service in general was quite poor. We wanted to take a photo with our group, and we had to bus our own table to have a clean table for the photo. My last experience was positive (4 stars). I would rate my recent experience at 2 stars, so I am changing my review to reflect 3 stars. I would be reluctant to return. read more

This is your quintessential neighborhood bar to have some beers, hangout, and grab a bite to eat. There's street parking out front and a small parking lot in the back. They redid their outdoor area so there's more seating and there's a small arcade section. There's also a small patio out front to sit at as well. I've been here multiple times and always have a good experience. I like that you can sample different beers and that they have rotating taps so you can always get something different a part from the classics. Service can vary depending on your server I've had some great and some not good experiences with that. The only downside to the add on of games and the outdoor space is having more kids. Since the main attraction is the bar and TVs for the games it puts a damper on it with kids running around when you're trying to drink and let loose but I also understand it's a way to bring in more people and revenue. A large group of us came here this past Saturday night around 11:30pm. We came hungry and ready to play some arcade games. A couple of our friends kept raving about the food here (especially the tater tots) so I was looking forward to trying some stuff. Unfortunately, we were told that they already had done last call so we missed it. The crazy part was we watched someone order food right before us and we were standing right behind her.
