Up the Irons takes the stage.

Quite often we see Dean and Erika around Santee. We tend to hang out at the same places. We always promise that we're going to visit their pub, Deano's Pub in La Mesa. Finally on a Saturday night I made it to Deano's. I was flying solo as it was a bit late of a start for Becky and we'd already had quite a day. Deano's had a no-cover, free concert featuring Up the Irons (an Iron Maiden tribute band) and Woke Up Dead (a Megadeth tribute band). Iron Maiden and Megadeth are two of my favorite bands. A free double bill metal show? Hellz to the yes! A $13 Lyft and I was dropped off at Deano's. Located in somewhat of an unassuming strip mall, but easy to find at 5286 Baltimore Dr. I walked in and immediately to the left of the entrance is the bar. It is a "low" bar with barrel chairs rather than barstools. Directly behind the bar is a long, narrow counter with barstools for sitting. That is where I posted up in front of the stage. There are plenty of tables/chairs scattered throughout. Deano's Pub also has pool tables and shuffle-board. A plethora of TVs for your sports viewing pleasure. A nice selection of beers on tap at good prices. Vera was the bartender when I first arrived. She was joined by a coworker as it got busier. I didn't catch his name. Both provided excellent service. Check out the Deano's Pub website. They host karaoke night, trivia, open mic, bingo, live music - all sorts of fun shit! Deano's Pub rocks! https://deanospub.com/

We went to see the 80's guys band. There is no food and we ordered at the bar. They sell wine in small bottles instead of glasses. There is a good size dance floor and we had a very good time. There was a full crowd and a $10 cover charge, but we felt it was worth it.

My friend is playing here once in a while and I got invited, its a little cool hang out spot in La Mesa, they have cocktails drinks and of course assorted beers. They don't have any food, so just eat out and drink and enjoy the live music here.

This is bad water spewing from the walls. Katrina trying to help and dry the floor. It's definitely not good!!!

There's water everywhere Katrina trying to mop the floor. Water spewing from the wall!!! Men's bathroom flooding. So having to share the women's bathroom, holy moly!!!

Went there to watch a friend in a band. Low key pub, not rowdy like most. Great place for a good beverage.

We got some pizzas from Surf Rider, such a great combo to have in one spot, we got the Surf Rider veggie pizza and it was SO good and garlicky. We also got the LM Deluxe and it was also really good. The menu is really fresh, creative, and all made from scratch which was a HUGE selling point for me. We came and got a kebab sandwich with chicken, fish and fries which we got their house made chips instead, and pooch patty. Let's start off with the pooch patty. I took a nibble to test before I gave to my dog and it was unseasoned and delicious for a dog patty. Great quality meat and she was elated to scarf down the three patties included. The kebab sandwich for me was amazing. Every single thing in that wrap/sandwich was seasoned and fresh. The chicken had a perfect char while still beong flavorful and juicy. It was sooo good. The pita chips that came with it were also house made and amazing. My fiancee said her fish and fries/chips were really good. Not over battered, not greasy, but crispy light and flakey. I would agree, the batter was not weighing down the light fish at all. Their tartar sauce was house made with mustard and we both fell in love with it. Their chips are also super delicious. We did not leave a singular crumb. We love the location of this place right in downtown La Mesa and we will for sure be back with our puppy in tow.

When they first opened under the new name, the place had super bright lighting. Really it was weird, like medical operating room brightness...They ended up shading the lights and painted the walls dark?? Better, appropriate ambience. It's a lot more modern and cleaner than ever though. Well, so they call it a taphouse now. Which means they are a craft beer bar. With less than average beer selection on tap for a taphouse in my opinion. They do have a large can selection that pushes them up a star. Many one-off beers and smoothie styles which can be difficult to obtain. There's only one person working the bar, which has always been a friendly female. Which is appropriate for the 90% male clientele. You gotta figure this works everywhere. Take it from someone who knows, as I worked as a bartender and barback for many years. Serving beer is one thing, but it's tough getting a male bartending job in general. The selection could be better. However, the problem I have with this place is the exorbitant prices of the draft beers. This is considering the area, which is on Broadway in Lemon Grove. I mean we are talking 9 and 10$ beers here. For example, Frank the Dank- a double IPA is 10$ here. And I know where I can get these for $5 a pint... and I'm not telling where either! Actually if you do really read my reviews, this information will be eventually leaked out if it already hasn't been.. But yeah I'm sorry, but this why you are empty 80% of the time. Who can afford this in this permanently depressed area/neighborhood? The working men of course, who aren't ready to go home and deal with that nagging significant other..

My biggest complaint would be the prices. I paid $10 for a pint of Two Towns cider, and $15 for a 19oz can of Boochcraft. The staff is always very friendly, and happy to help with beverage selection. With this being the only real craft beer option in Lemon Grove, it's a good stop, it's just going to cost you a little more.
