Went there yesterday, a Sunday, and the bartender was horrible and unprofessional. I'm a retired Sailor, so a bartender needs to drop A LOT of "F" bombs to be become noticeable. I came here for the first time with one of my friends to watch my friends band play and man let me tell the atmosphere in there was so much fun! I was not expecting the bar to be that big but it's pretty big and they also have outdoor seating in the back. They had a big stage for the bands to play on as well. Quite often we see Dean and Erika around Santee. We tend to hang out at the same places. We always promise that we're going to visit their pub, Deano's Pub in La Mesa. Finally on a Saturday night I made it to Deano's. I was flying solo as it was a bit late of a start for Becky and we'd already had quite a day. Deano's had a no-cover, free concert featuring Up the Irons (an Iron Maiden tribute band) and Woke Up Dead (a Megadeth tribute band). Iron Maiden and Megadeth are two of my favorite bands. A free double bill metal show? Hellz to the yes! A $13 Lyft and I was dropped off at Deano's. Located in somewhat of an unassuming strip mall, but easy to find at 5286 Baltimore Dr. I walked in and immediately to the left of the entrance is the bar. It is a "low" bar with barrel chairs rather than barstools. Directly behind the bar is a long, narrow counter with barstools for sitting. That is where I posted up in front of the stage. There are plenty of tables/chairs scattered throughout. Deano's Pub also has pool tables and shuffle-board. A plethora of TVs for your sports viewing pleasure. A nice selection of beers on tap at good prices. Vera was the bartender when I first arrived. She was joined by a coworker as it got busier. I didn't catch his name. Both provided excellent service. One of my favorite spots in La Mesa, especially Wednesday nights for karaoke. Top notch bartending and fun. And I was there for almost every Sunday last football season for both the company and service. read more

We went to see the 80's guys band. There is no food and we ordered at the bar. They sell wine in small bottles instead of glasses. There is a good size dance floor and we had a very good time. There was a full crowd and a $10 cover charge, but we felt it was worth it. read more

I don't know you, Deano, but I sure do appreciate you opening a bar in La Mesa! So I've only been once but based on that first experience (even though the band cancelled) I'll be back. Hey, I wasn't going for the band anyway but live music is always a plus. What did I just say, live music?! Yep, any place that puts the time into arranging a band gets bonus points in my book even if that band is a "dad band" as described by the bartender. At the end of the night I picked up the tab for my friends and I and it came out to like $120 after tip, and for me, that's a very reasonable night at the bar. Don't judge me. So. Much. Fun. Came to this bar after dinner and I'm so glad we did. Bartender was extraordinary, kind, welcoming, and brought life to the bar with her charismatic personality. Along with the bar back and DJ, who didn't stop smiling the whole night! They had karaoke going, great selection of drinks, and pool! Wasn't uncomfortably crowded, but had a lively crowd of multiple age groups. Parking was easy, too bad I haven't discovered this spot sooner. What a hidden gem in La Mesa! We met Dean and his wife Erika at a community event. I told them I had heard about their pub and wanted to go there soon... Since we live a bit away in North County, what a better chance to visit Deanos then while we're in the area... First of all I'm not really a bar guy, but I'm all into supporting small businesses that support their community. The small town bars I've been to in the past have usually been full of non-welcoming locals....This is not the story with Deanos... What we found at Deanos was a cool welcoming pub, with a ice cold beer and chill vibes... The bartender, Tim, couldn't have been nicer....what started as a quick stop for a beer, turned into a two hours, several beers (hey, I had a designated driver, don't judge ;) and an awesome conversation with Tim.....the dude's a wealth of information on San Diego, and it's many, infamous watering holes....As a local Vet, he's does know his way around SD...Just the talk with Tim was worth the price of the beers....did I say the beers were cold?? Yeah, ICY cold.... I guess this place used to be a pretty rough joint before Dean bought it and turned it around... We experienced nothing but cool vibes, and I didn't feel like a had to worry about getting hit with pool cue in the back of my noggin... Plus the place is real clean and the bathrooms are spotless.... As we were leaving, a local bowling team was coming thru the door....all real friendly, bringing more positive energy into the pub... Dropped in on a Friday night with some old college friends that I used to hit up this place with in the 90's when it was Norma Jean's. Glad to see that they kept all the good stuff from back in the day and updated what was needed to give it more of a modern feel. The live band was super awesome and they even sang happy birthday to my friend, which made her night. I went to Deano's on a Thursday night to have a drink or 2 and play dirty bingo. I sat at the bar, near where you order your own drinks to take back to your table, and was totally ignored by the bartender Amy. Granted, she was the only person behind the bar. I sat at the bar hoping to order a drink and after more than 5 minutes she never acknowledged me. People kept walking up, calling her by name, and ordering drinks as I sat there. I finally got up and walked out because I was being ignored. I had hoped to make this bar a regular stop, but I won't be going back. My suggestion, hire a second bartender on busy nights or not.
