Stopped by on a Friday night, it was empty, the ambience was good though. Drinks, so so. The bartender didn't really pay attention to people except for a guy that was there. Or regulars. She had to google how to make drinks, she never asked if we wanted another drink or anything. I paid with card, an closed the tab twice, but she charged me two different prices for the same drink so it was kind of weird to me. And the second time it took almost 20 minutes to even get my card back. Idk, i felt like she was choosing who she wanted to talk to and help. Despite it being empty in there. People were nice in there and it was clean so that's good. The drinks weren't that great but it is what it is. I hope she gets better at bartending. read more

A group of us ( five) we heard about the cool bar. After a costume party we went. ( in costume ) The The friendly patrons greeted us with compliments. The two bartenders were very friendly. Being attractive didn't hurt. Now the kareoke KJ was rude and to busy for us talking to her friends. She told us she would announce when to sign up " rather harshly ". She didn't announce we saw a line starting. We signed up 3rd & 4th in line. After eight singers. We decided this KJ just didn't care about first time customers. And didn't care if we return. Since this business has come under new management I can't be more excited about all the fun activities, the new specials, and the great bartenders that are there! My favorite our Wednesday nights where they offer incredible whiskeys to sip while you hang out and play pool. I also find myself going back out there for karaoke as their hosts are so much fun! New Bloody Mary recipe tastes great! Last visit had hilarious conversations with regulars about other regulars and upcoming bar parties.

I stopped by to meet with a friend who lived in the area. The front door is kinda creepy; makes u wonder what kind of an establishment u are about to walk into. Once inside, the bar really opens up! I walked around to the 'regular's' side of the bar and everyone just stared at me. Lol.. But they were nice, and welcoming. Lots of dirty white folks who smoke a lot, here. But nothing bad, that's just that they cater to, the trailer park behind them. At any time while you're there, you'll probably see more people right out the back door smoking cigarettes, than inside. It seems like that's what they do here. Nevertheless, I had fun. The people there were welcoming and funny. The waitress was friendly and accommodating, and had great prices on their drinks.. This could be a great dive bar. The rowdy patrons, the smell, the old wood paneling and '70s counters, all wonderful. But the staff, absolutely disgusting. Absolutely horrible service. Ridiculous. After sitting there at the bar for 7 minutes or so waiting for service the bartender walks up as she's making a couple shots and looks me dead in the eyes, as a thousand like her have in the past, as to say "what do you want?". I obviously misread her look because after I ordered, "can I have a Bud bottle please", she said "Fuck off, I'll get to you when I get to you". I immediately got up and left. I was scared to death when I read all the terrible Yelps about Shooter's. It sounded to me like a rat hole from hell. Admittedly, the immediate area Shooter's is located in is not the most desirable. But the bar is not that bad; the parking lot was not as empty as the previous Yelps would lead you to believe. Most neighbors in the trailer parks nearby seemed to be asleep in their double wides when I was there. It's true-the drinks are reasonable and stiff. The nice female bartender that served me was pleasant. There seemed to be a group of regulars that everyone knows and that hang at Shooter's. This cast of characters were not diabolical and actually came up to the stage where my friends were playing a secret show. The singer in the band allowed 2 of the regulars to jam on his guitar and do a little Eric Clapton karaoke. The vibe at Shooter's is more down home than down and out. Now that may change when the natives get drunk and riled up on a weekend night or during some big football game. The stage that was set up in Shooter's for bands and karaoke is right there in the face of all the drinkers on the bar stools but it does make for some "intimate" performances. For what it is and does, Shooter's is an authentic, affordable place to hang out. BTW, if the trailer over yonder the fence is a earthquakin, looks like some Spring Valley rednecks might be doing some baby-makin! Must be where that Shooter's name came from? read more

Came in tonight to play some pool and listen to some karaoke. Cool multicultural crowd. A lot of country music on the juke box playing prior to karaoke. The barmaid Sally and Karaoke DJ Sandy were great! Their sound system is actually really good compared to a lot of places. The downfall is that their screen is mounted on the wall and is small and a bit too high up. The later it gets the more people filled in. The locals here are fun and nice unlike a lot of karaoke places. There are people who still have fun singing and people who make you cry because they are really good. I would come back here, it's just really far. If you come for the pool tournament make sure to ask what their house rules are. Some of their rules are a bit different. There are three pool tables. I love the fact that they have a men's room, a women's room, as well as a blended bathroom so no one really has to wait in line. Their Guinness beer unfortunately was really bad and poured incorrectly. They changed the tap but I didn't order another one. I also ordered some chicken tenders and Tator tots which was actually pretty good for frozen food. They have purse hooks at the bar, whixh is something I love! This place is quaint so do not expect a huge place. Hey, if you can find the entrance door that is half the battle. It is literally in the corner between the laundromat and the liquor store. Just thought I'd write a review for the -worst- bar I've been to in SD. Everything about this place screams "STAY AWAY" from the second you spy it's deteriorating exterior 'til the moment you walk through the door. If you live in Spring Valley (and my condolences, if you do) you might have seen this place on your way to the Edwards theater, or next to the 7-11. Have you ever noticed that it looks gloomy, even in the daylight? That's right, even -light- is scared of this place. I'll try not to be too much of a snob, but the fact this place is adjacent to a mobile home park.. really didn't add to my initial assessment, but once I was inside, my prejudice was confirmed. The rogues gallery of scurvy, chewed-up, leering old men and tired, sad-looking old women, who turned to look at me and my group of other 20-something friends as we walked in was... disheartening, to say the least. The jukebox was playing Patsy Cline (seriously) and I couldn't help but think that the sign out front should read "SHOOTERS: Where Dreams Go To Die.." The beer, and the pool tables were both cheap, but I would gladly pay Gaslamp mixed-drink prices, to have the memory of that place removed my from brain. read more

Had a co-worker recently invite me and the wife to Shooters Cocktails. After getting the address and the meeting time, we departed out and a short drive later, ended up in a ghetto-ish part of Spring Valley. When we hit up the 7-11 next door for gas and a few dollars for the bar, our opinion of the area did not change much when we saw some hood rats and questionable characters hanging out in the store parking lot. We next proceeded to the bar across the street. Well, it was definitely a dive for sure and not much to look at. At around 10 pm, the place was nearly empty for a Saturday night but once the DJ came in and got the karaoke going, people started to filter in. After scanning the scene earlier at 7-11, I was a little worried about what kind of people would show up and was not in the mood for trouble but the crowd, to my pleasant surprise, turned out to be quite mellow. There was a very interesting mix of people inside...average Joe's like myself, biker dudes, rocker dudes, old and young people, and even a few cougars as well! Me and my co-worker engaged in a few games of pool while waiting for the karaoke to begin. The pool tables were pretty old and beat up and look like they have seen their better days. The 8 ball was completely missing from our rack. Probably some tweaker stole it at some point during his or her visit to the bar. One thing about karaoke is to expect to hear some very bad singing during the course of the night but everyone of the patrons that participated that evening could actually sing to some degree. Some were even quite good. I really enjoyed watching this one dude get up and belt a few Metallica songs. He definitely had a voice for heavy metal. I drove that night to the bar so I couldn't indulge in the alcohol but I did settle for two Corona beers which were ice cold and served by a very friendly bartender. This place is a dive, pure and simple and is located in a sketchy and dark area of Spring Valley but besides that , I had fun here and would come back to chill on a Saturday night for a few hours of pool and karaoke. Recommended if you like dive bars and hole-in-the-wall places. read more

Don't let the shady exterior fool you, Shooters really isn't that bad of a place. If you live in the area and need a good laugh though, a fellow stand up comedian and I host a comedy open mic every Thursday evening at 9:30 PM. It should be noted this isn't just random barflies signing up to tell jokes: comedians from all over San Diego have been regularly visiting and trying out new material, as well as polishing older stuff, so there really are good quality local comics, performing for free. Check it out! Edit: Since I posted this review, the comedians in San Diego had a comedy awards show, as voted on by other comics in the local scene. Shooters Cocktails actually won for "Best Open Mic", beating out the local comedy clubs as a favorite spot for comics to work out new material. Every week we average around 15-20 comics from all over San Diego (and some out of town pop ins), so it's always a blast. read more

This review has been a long time in the making, but I know feel that I have enough experience with it to actually form an opinion and give an accurate narrative. Why the wait? If you've ever been there you know it changes everytime the wind blows. Not just the employees, but the decor, the games, and to some degree, the vibe. That and the fact that it is so dive-ish (not in the good way) that I really don't ever think of going to this place unless I've had a few or I am on my way back from some place else. I have honestly never sat at home and said, "Hey, I fell like going to Shooters". Let that be your first indication of the type of place it is. Now, the experience..... The FIRST time I walked into Shooters I had to walk back out and check the parking lot. The lot was dark and empty, but the place was packed. I walked out the back to check the other lot and it was empty too. I asked the bartender where all the people came from since there were only two or three cars in the lot. She said, "The Trailer Park". Which made me laugh. Right up until I realized there was a trailer park behind the bar. After about 30 minutes I began to believe the bartender wasn't kidding. The second time I rolled into this bar I took a few friends and it was one of those ,"you gotta see this" type of trips. And we weren't dissappointed. As we walked in the door and large and manish woman was trying to hit a high note in her karaoke performance when she abruptly stopped, grabbed her crotch and yelled," I felt that one all the way down in my uterus". Game On! The next time I went in (notice I rank it low, but I keep going back) we met a nice guy named Loco who told us he owned the bar. He bough all our drinks for our group of 8, played pool with us and told us all about the motorcycle tattos on his head. Suzuki if I remember clearly. It was a fun night. When we went in the next weekend I asked about Loco the owner and the bartender told us he didn't own the bar, he just tells people that and he's been banned for life. Last year my wife read in the Union Tribune about the guy who pulled out a gun and shot his cheating wife across the bar at Shooters, so it was moved to the off limits list. I tried to explain to her that with a name like Shooters, you have to expect a couple of shots fired sometime in it's history. So last weekend I'm on a boys night out and after four stops, it's time for a trip to Shooters. This time I'm the driver. Pool tables have moved, karaoke in full swing, Packed bar, lots of people, lots of drunks. I like to people watch, so it was a great time. The woman that was so drunk we couldn't understand a word she said hitting on my friend was worth the trip all by itself. I think she was homeless, but I'm not sure. Again, one of the beautiful things about this place. Everyone gets in. So, the summation. Go to this place! You have to. I don't want it to ever close. It's like an aquarium full of life/love/misery I never get to see. And the drinks are cheap, tall and strong. What more can you ask for? Just don't expect to find Mr. or Mrs. Right hanging around. read more
