It had been quite a while since we caught Sunday football at The Oaks Bar & Grill. We had friends visiting from out of town and we were meeting a large group of mutual friends. The Oaks proved to be the perfect venue. When we arrived, the group had commandeered several tables in the dining room. Becky and I bellied up the adjacent large horseshoe shaped bar. The TVs were all tuned to various NFL games. A group of Steelers fans were in the dining room next to our group watching and cheering their team on a giant TV. Becky and I wanted to watch the Seahawks. Mike, Director of the Carlton Oaks Country Club, was happy to put it on one of the many TVs for us. We wanted a snack, so we ordered the Potato Skins. Potato halves filled with cheese, bacon bits and chives. They are cut lengthwise in half for easier dipping and eating. Served with ranch and sour cream for dipping. Bottles of Tapatio, Tabasco and Cholula were provided if you wanted to spice it up. They were quite tasty and the perfect portion size. Price was right too! Because of the acoustics, the dining room can get a little loud. If you just want to chill and take in the view, step outside to the patio. Great views of the golf course. Service at the bar was friendly and on point. The large groups in the dining room were being well taken care of as well. read more

I was recently invited to a mutual friends birthday party celebration here and enjoyed the bar much. Bartenders are on point and very nice. No complaints on the service. Ordered a variety of drinks including a French 75, vodka tonic and some food items that were considerably the same as most bar foods. The bar was spacious and enough to host a large party of over 75 people. Several tables and great golfing scenic views. We were lucky to catch some live music by Joe Rathburn who was amazing and made the evening so wonderful. Shout out to his great voice and amazing guitar playing skills. I'd definitely return to play some golf and enjoy a nice drink. Golf course itself has room for improvements and would look more aesthetically pleasing if it was greener. read more

I came here to have lunch. The service was really bad. If you sit on the patio/porch it is self-service meaning you have to go inside to order at the bar. I got a simple burger and it took 45 minutes to get it. Oh, they make you pay before they serve you which makes tipping really awkward. They brought my food to me on the porch after a long wait, but that is the full extent of the service (no drink refills, etc). The food was average, but the service was just sad. read more

Ate here with my wife last night (7/8), The Oaks Bar & Grill is located on Carlton Oaks golf course and the patio seating overlooks the course and putting green area. Loved the ambiance of the place right off. Service was very good the entire evening, our server was attentive and food came out quickly. Food was also pretty on point. I had the BLT sandwich that came with french fries and my wife had the Cobb salad. Both were tasty and the portion was plentiful for dinner. I was considering ordering an Old Fashioned but declined due to it being $14 (this was the same price as either one of our entrees!) The other cocktails on the menu are similarly pricey. My wife did have a glass of house merlot which she enjoyed. Some things to consider is that on Yelp their hours are listed as being open until 10pm which they are not. The restaurant is open until 8pm (kitchen closes at 7:45) and the bar is open until 9pm. While the house merlot my wife had was only $6 for the glass their cocktails are very pricey. I had a diet coke which was a reasonable $3. Overall, nice place. I'm considering taking up golf again so I will most likely return since it's right on the course. read more

Most golf courses have functional places to eat. After all, golf is a four-to-five hour pursuit, so you're likely to get hungry before, during, and/or after your round. With some exceptions, it's usually built for the golfers in mind, and not-so-much for the general public, so I wouldn't bother to recommend a non-golfer to come to a golf course restaurant. But I'll definitely make an exception for Carlton Oaks' restaurant, The Oaks. The biggest plus of The Oaks is the setting. Overlooking the golf course, with trees and hills as a backdrop, the outdoor patio is one of the more pleasant settings for a meal in East County. The course is not kept in great shape, but this hardly affects the experience when you have a sandwich, rather than a sand wedge, in hand. To be honest, the food doesn't have to be terribly memorable for this to be a good experience, but it delivers exactly enough to make you think about returning. With a full bar and occasional live music, I would definitely venture off the beaten path or delay a post-round drive home to hang out on this pleasant patio with a cocktail in hand and a bite in the belly. read more

As a large group of women who lunch we went to the Oaks Bar & Grill today. Yes we made reservations but our server seemed unaware. The business picked up and it was clear the bartender/server was overwhelmed. That happens often in restaurants nowadays. But what I must say is Brad "never" gave up or developed a bad attitude. So appreciated! The manager helped by taking our order. There were a few mishaps on orders but THANKS to Brad it all worked out well. We had time to socialize, have a toddy and we all left full. We have been here a few times and the patio service is always terrible. Tonight was exceptionally terrible. We arrived at 5:50 so we could listen to the live performer. The server passed our table numerous times taking orders, bringing menus and talking to the tables on either side of us...completely ignoring us. My husband went in to order a cocktail ($14 for an Old Fashioned) and get a couple of waters. We ended up leaving at 6:35, still not one server EVER came to our table. Other people who came in after us were greeted after about 5 mins of sitting down. We even heard one of the servers tell the table next to us that she was going home because it was so slow. Really? an add for this spot showed up on my Instagram feed....no clue why...i live 30 miles from here and it's not a place that I would think about going to. Ironically the house my parents lived in when i was born is a block away. But....my good friend and fellow yelper Cinna, recently moved farther East ...so i figured we should check this spot out. This is NOT television daytime drama country club. i have been to the SD country club in Chula Vista...and I've been to the lodge at Torrey Pines...very different Golf Clubs...This was closer to the style of Chula. There was a big outdoor patio and the view of the Golf Course was beautiful!!!!! Inside was half bar/half dining room (but basically one big space) It was too cold outside (even with heat lamps) so we opted for the bar with a big window view. The bar was lined with TV's displaying different sports... the clientele was all men (one woman aside from us) our server was super nice and friendly! i really liked her. we were here on a Saturday so it's the only day without any HH/specials. (which only means we need to come on a HH day) We both ordered a sandwich with a side salad (side is included) the salad was simple but fresh and so delicious! my sandwich had turkey, ham, avocado, grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. All on toasted sourdough. It was something i could totally make at home, but it was delicious! I think the only improvement would be if they had put the avocado on after grilling it (so the avocado would be cold). drinks were good (not strong so don't fear). prices are reasonable. only negative is the volume of TV's and dudes all in a room that echoes. i would like to come back on a warm afternoon and enjoy the patio. read more

This place was great for a Sunday afternoon lunch with the kiddos. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed items from their Happy Hour menu, which is offered all day on Sunday. You don't have to be members of the country club to enjoy this place. My kids had hot dogs, fish sticks, and chicken tenders. Their meals all came with a side and drink. I chose the bbq chicken flatbread and was definitely impressed with the quality of the food. Their meatball and fried pickle appetizers were great! The price was right. We've been coming to this place for years and it's always been good. However our last visit we met up with some friends at 4:00 on a Sunday and wanted to order some food. We sat on the outdoor patio and we were told there's no server out there anymore so we ordered at the bar. All of our food came out in to go containers and about 15 mins after we got our food the restaurant/bar closed and doors were locked. It was so strange because the hours on here reflect that they should've been open and I don't think they've ever closed that early on us before. We would have just went somewhere else if we had known. It was pretty uncomfortable and we didn't enjoy our food out of the to go containers and when we left we saw one employee who didn't say thank you or goodbye or anything. He just seemed really annoyed that we were there. Not sure what was going on that day but it was a huge disappointment. We paid so much for our food only to eat it out of take out containers and we were pretty unwelcomed by the staff. Don't think we will be back again. read more

My brothers and I decided to try out Oaks Bar & Grill for lunch (plus mimosas) today. We checked in at the bar where Sarah was holding down the fort. This place is notorious for closing early. 3 times in the last month my husband and I have tried to pop in, one time in a Friday, well before 8PM and they were completely Closed. When they are open we love to come have a bite and a few drinks, the food is ok, but location is nice for us. Wish they would at least advertise on their social media when they are shutting down early. read more

Then we took the dog here for dinner. The salads are amazing. On Wednesday they have a Prime Rib special. We also enjoyed the mango habanero chicken tenders. I have been coming here for many years. For a long time they had a great prime rib special on Wednesdays, dropped it, then brought it back. I've enjoyed it......up until now. Based on everyone's dinner, we'd all guess they have changed suppliers. My prime rib was one of the toughest pieces of meat I've ever had. None of the 'cap' on the top. Potatoes and veggies fine. When the manager came around asking how was everything, I let her know it's the worse prime rib I've had in quite some time. She smiled and moved on. Zucchini sticks were somewhere between bland and bad. Fish tacos were fine. Service was great. But I won't be back soon. If you're going to have a prime rib special, make it good. The Oaks Bar and Grill has long been our favorite place. We enjoy sitting on the patio and enjoining a glass of wine and beer, and sometimes one of their wonderful hamburgers. On Tuesday July 2nd 2019, we had some guests from out of town. We thought we would treat them to one of our favorite places (The Oakes @ Carlton Oaks Country Club). We seated ourselves on the patio and waited for the server. After waiting about 15 minutes and attempting to attract her attention and being ignored I went inside and requested service. We placed our order for drinks and some tacos (It was "Taco Tuesday"). We waited and waited after about 30 to 40 minutes a partial order with two of the 4 drinks and two of the taco orders arrived. We were assured the remainder of the order would arrive shortly. It did not, finally after two request the remainder of the order arrived and was enjoyed. I do not blame the lack of service on the waitress, it is the fault of management. We requested to speak with the manager (Michell) and was told they text her but she did not reply or respond. I cannot say we will never return to "The Oaks Bar & Grill" but when I do, I hope they have replaced Michell with a competent manager. read more

Well, my husband and myself have been MEMBERS of the The Oaks for YEARS... it's not until late that I have seen a change. Yes the menu is better with more of an "Asian" flare.... however the Bar Manager Michelle has been the "Bar Manager" for about a year and yes she "can" be friendly to those she knows... such as myself... HOWEVER.... I Do Not and WILL NOT Tolerate belittling an employee or staff member in FRONT OF ANYONE (which I was witness to personally TODAY between Michelle and a staff member)That is just in poor plain taste and VERY poor management skills.
