So, I hate to say it, but I wasn't that impressed. I was looking forward to trying the sandwiches here, and pair it with a nice cold IPA, which I did I will say, the branded IPA is really good. Crisp, not too hoppy, but loaded with flavor. I went with the Baja beef sandwich, strips of beef, onions, and jalapeños, griddle together, and then top with cheese, loaded into a French roll. On the surface looked good, but perhaps I was needing to try one of the cold sandwiches, which I will do next time. Second time I've been here this trip to San Diego. The Baja beef sandwich is a huge winner. Sliced beef and onions with fried jalapeños It's a fast food style restaurant walk up and order the people they work there are always nice and polite and good at their jobs. I love board and brew!!! We go often, I live their food. It's ALWAYS fresh, staff is always great, the beer is cheap and good!! (Huge draw ) love people watching the local crew that hangs out seems daily. Go and try anything and I swear it will be great!! I do wish they build out larger, or move locations. Place was immaculately clean and has plenty of seating inside and out. Craft beer on tap and in cans and Sodas for everyone else. The decor inside definitely gives off that beach vibe which for some reason seems to make order a sandwich all that much better haha. I got the Tom's Choice which has slow-roasted beef, turkey breast, cheddar cheese, with toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion, and their signature Sweet-Sour Dressing on a toasted French baguette. I absolutely demolished this monster of a sandwich!! My girlfriend got the Tub O Tuna Sandwich which has albacore tuna salad, Jack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and onion on sweet wheat bread. The best part is their specialty orange sauce - I have literally no idea what is in this stuff, but it brings your sandwich to the next level. The girl at the register was so nice and went the extra mile for us! She let us know all the fun changes and additions you can make to your sandwich. They always give great recommendations and they always answer your questions when you don't know what something means. My sister and I went to get ourselves sandwiches from this place (we are Black individuals). We've been going here often and have not had any problems until today. We entered to ONLY order the Tub O' Tuna sandwich. As we entered, there was a white guy with blonde hair (tall and a bit tanned, looks to be around 17-20 years old) at the cashier. The first red flag was that he didn't even acknowledge us. He didn't greet us or look our way. He was helping a lady with the card reader (I guess her card was declining or something). We waited about a minute, and when he was done helping her and the lady left, we thought, "Okay, he's going to take our order now." But he continued to completely ignore us, catering to a couple of men at the bar. And by catering, I mean he was quite literally chatting and LAUGHING with them! It was as if we weren't waiting for him to take our order. My sister gave him the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, I was slowly getting upset. After waiting for 7 minutes (yes, 7 minutes, even though the guy was helping NOBODY), a woman came to finally take our order. She had been cleaning the doors when we walked in. I ordered the sub and then waited for our order, which she said would take 3-5 minutes. I was telling my sister about the blonde guy and how he was treating us. As we were standing by the drinks machine, the blonde guy walked over and picked up the tea dispenser to change it, still completely ignoring us. That was when I gave him a look of disbelief and annoyance. Then, the most unbelievable thing happened, which made me believe this was 100% RACISM. A white group of girls entered, and he quickly looked over, heading their way IMMEDIATELY with a smile on his face to assist them! I couldn't help but look at my sister in disbelief, as she was feeling the same way. This racist white guy immediately assisted these white girls and didn't even give my sister and me the same treatment. My sister told me to ask the woman who took our order for his name, and I was thinking of doing so to report him. After helping the group of white girls, he disappeared into the back. Not long after, the woman came out with our food. I ended up not asking for his name, and that's something I regret. I was feeling so many emotions at that time that it totally slipped past me as I struggled to understand the situation we were in. The woman who handed me the food was even looking at me, knowing something was wrong. We left the place, and we were both furious at this dude and how he treated us. He completely ruined my mood and whole night. That is blatant RACISM. FYI: The woman he was working with that night her name is Emily G. We came to the establishment around 7 pm. I haven't been to Board & Brew in awhile, so out of hunger I came here. I wasn't sure what to get so I had the cashier pick out my lunch. I was about the third person in line and the line got even longer once I was done ordering. I was lucky enough to get a seat by the window. The sun was out and it was nice. The food came out faster than I expected. So that was nice. The bread was perfect and the chicken was marinated with just the right amount of sauce and flavor. I think they only had two. The place is clean and that's always an added plus. The beers were enticing but I had too many errands to run to enjoy a beer. But definitely next time. We come here often because the sandwiches are great. The service is not. The atmosphere is crowded and loud. Today we ordered 6 sandwiches to go instead of eating in. We had to wait a full 20 minutes. Meanwhile I watched as every other person that walked in AFTER us was given their food. When we were finally called the girl said thanks for waiting. I told her it was too long a wait. She replied that they served all the people ordering 1-2 sandwiches first. They have outdoor seating that is partially shaded by the building and umbrellas but when it is 90+ degrees I am not sitting outside. I ordered the turkey club and my husband got the Italian sub. My sandwich was ok. I have only ever had the California delight and compared to that sandwich this was a disappointment and I am not sure if it ja due to the sandwich or the location it had a lot of lettuce, the bread was very fluffy and ai felt it did not have a lot if meat on jt. It was food but not great. Staff were friendly. The person at the front gave us time to order as we were indecisive and checked in on us. We got in before it got busy so we got seating and didn't have to wait in a long line. We asked for a water cup and got a full size cup. I wish I had more stars to give them. I think 3.5 stars is more fair. I've waited to write this review after double digit visits. I have ordered to go and dined in on multiple occasions (more than 20 times). Pros : -easy online ordering for pickup and food is ready when they say it will be -decent food -big outdoor patio area for eating -pretty consistent in their food quality Cons : -Staff is not customer service oriented. I'm not sure if they don't know how to interact with people or multitask, but don't expect any hospitality here. -More than ten times I've entered and waited under the pickup line and had 2-3 staff people look at me but never acknowledge me with either a "hi we will be right with you" or a "can I help you?" Just eye contact and silence. I often have to speak first to request my order. -one out of every three orders of mine they get wrong -charging $2 for a gluten free wrap is robbery, charging $.50 for pickles is also ridiculous. -their secret sauce is not good and no matter what they give it to you (maybe if they gave out less unwanted secret sauce their pickles could be free). -Mostly I get lettuce sandwiches.
