We were a party of 11 and we got a big booth so all of us could fit. I ordered a bowl of chili and had an Alpine Duet IPA. Im not normally an IPA drinker but this one I liked, it wasnt too bitter and I dare say I liked this IPA! Chili was great and hit the spot, was hearty and well seasoned, just what my body wanted. Why haven't we been here before!? Today the hubby and I met up with brother feom another mother, for linner. We were pleasantly surprised. We were greated right away & were told we could sit wherever we liked. Reallly nice a/c on this very warm day. Great vibes & music. What we ordered: * Potato Skins * Steak Sandwich w/ Salad * Alpine Protein Bowl Everything we had was very yummy. I loved their twist on the potato skins. They were sliced like thicker potato chips. We came to have another get together with my wife's BFF who was going to the Philippines. This place is a good in between spot. The food was very delicious, especially their take on potato skins. As I was surprised that it was not the traditional way they usually come. They chopped the potatoes in a chip style and then put the melted cheese and Bacon. The portions are all very shareable. The side salad we got with our steak sandwich was huge. Our server tried his best to take care of everything but he got slammed with a huge party that came in shortly after us. Food is delicious. Service was a little slow, but that's because after we arrived, they had a huge rush so understandable. Spicy fried green beans was 10/10. I couldn't even tell it was green beans. Coconut shrimp basket 10/10 and the sauce paired with it was amazing. I loved their fries and their ranch even more. So good. My FIL is vegan and he had the hummus platter and the spicy green beans (is usual order there). We sat outside next to the little water creek on the other side of us so I got a little bit up by mosquitos so I'll make sure to avoid that area next time. The Mac salad that came with it was one of my favorites. The pork ribs were also very good and they give you a lot! My wife had the salad with steak on top and she also enjoyed it. I have been to Alpine Tavern many times in the past and it was consistently good. I was really disappointed when I went for a late lunch with friends today. They were out of steak, I normally order the steak sandwich. I ordered the Chicken Cobb sandwich. My friends ordered the seared ahi salad and the prime rib sandwich specials. The food took awhile to be delivered. My friends orders came out first, mine came out a couple minutes later. The presentation looked great. The tater tots were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the chicken and prime rib were overcooked and dry. I'm not sure if I'll go back. I used to enjoy eating here. read more

What a fun and interesting atmosphere this place is! Old school tavern set with a mishmash of furnishings and eclectic things hanging from the ceiling and mounted on the walls. You literally feel like you back in time. Good selection of local beers and quite the diverse choices of food, ranging from delicious looking salads to burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and bbq. The kids menu went beyond the normal mini stuff to include ribs of all things. I had the jalapeño burger which included the usual lettuce and tomato's type stuff and a layer of battered and fried jalapeños. Add some secret sauce and a medium cooked Pattie and you got yourself a good burger. The dish included choice of sides and I opted for rings. Enter and nice cold 22 ounce Alpine Duet IPA and I was one happy boy. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars was the slow service. I will say in their defense that the 6 servers working the restaurant that Saturday afternoon were all very busy, lots of people to take care of. We've made a habit of stopping here often when we're headed by. All of the servers and bartenders have been overtly friendly and helpful. And the food is to die for. Never had a bad meal there. This time the French dip, garlic fries, and the patty melt and tots were all delicious as usual and were served with ranch and a spicy aioli. The tavern was built in 1890 making it 135 years in 2025. I came in with my camping backpack ordered a beer and sat down. About 20 minutes later I was told I had to leave. I went to the brewery bar next door. The last thing is said was that i was going to post a bad review on yelp. They sent the police after me who arrested me for brandishing my knife which didn't happen. I do carry a fixed blade knife in harness on my belt. But I never reached for it or threatened anyone. I SPENT 7 DAYS IN JAIL. The burger was a frozen patty thrown on the grill no taste cheap meat and the cheese on top of it was one thin slice of cheddar cheese, which you could almost not taste. The bun was OK but not toasted asked for grilled onions. They bought raw onions, asked for the island dressing on the side and they didn't bring that either. Carne asada fries great tasting. Meat was tender ( great plus - most are chewy). Good amount of cheese. Nice size . Could easily feed 2 people . Definitely a great appetizer. My job takes my co-worker and me across the county. Oftentimes, we'll stop and work at various establishments - cafes, restaurants, spaces that provide access to outlets for our laptops. Upon arriving to these businesses, we always ask if we can stay and work for a while. That was the case when we sat down at our table at Alpine Tavern & Burger. Our first waitress was kind and had no problem with us staying. She was attentive, quickly took our orders, and checked in as needed. She deserves a five star review. It's unfortunate that about an hour after we paid for our meal and she clocked out, our experience would be downgraded so quickly. As we were finishing up our work for the day, the blonde woman who appeared to be the bartender or restaurant manager asked my co-worker and me what we were there for. My co-worker answered her questions about our jobs. Immediately after, the restaurant manager mocked our professions and proceeded to share her disdain to other paying customers. In that moment, we began to pack up our things to leave a restaurant where we had just spent money and quietly kept to ourselves. The manager said nothing as we got ready to leave. Not that either one of us was expecting her to. This is a warning to those who walk through the doors of Alpine Tavern & Grill, customer service is not guaranteed here. I recently started working in Alpine so I'm branching out and trying local spots for dinners. Last week my husband met me after work and we decided to try Alpine Tavern and Grill. Parking was a bit of an issue. The lot is small but we found parking on the street. When you walk in you are instantly transported to another place. The outside is unassuming . But the inside is quaint, reminded me of a Disney tavern. There's a tree growing in the middle? I order the blue cheese burger and it was so good! The onion rings were too. My husband had the patty melt which was huge. The service was great. The place seems small but it looked like there might be additional rooms in the back. read more

I may be biased because I have only eaten here after a long hike when I'm famished. A meal here is actually something my husband and I look forward to. With that being said, we'd probably be regulars - hike or not - if we lived closer. It's a seat-yourself, casual establishment with a great outdoor patio, my preference. The parking lot has several spots, but if they are all taken, there's plenty of street parking as well. Now, on to the food -- the portions are generous and everything I've had has been delicious. A mound of crisp bacon on the BLTs; the juiciest of burgers with a patty that extends well beyond the bun; crispy fries - you can't ask for much more. Beers come in frosty mugs and water glasses are consistently refilled. The prices are a few dollars more per item than your average bar and grill, but I think the quality is worth it. We've also always had excellent, attentive service. So, even though this place started as a convenient stop post-hike, it's turned into a must-stop whenever we're nearby. read more

They have large portions and the food was delicious! The two ladies working were very nice. They have lots of seating indoor and outdoor. They don't serve breakfast, but they have lots of options for lunch and dinner foods. They have a bar inside and TVs. Definitely recommend!!! read more

Place is bad. I walked in with a friend after a hike and ordered a pretzel and burger for myself. Pretzel came out in about 15 mins and the burger took a whole hour. The waitress came to the table 3 times in that hour and each time we looked at her like " uhh where's our food?" And then the waitress brought two plates over and it was the wrong order! I ended up loosing my appetite after 4 customers who came in 20 minutes after us got their order before us and of course the tavern didn't comp us for the wait or anything and so I paid for the pretzel and left. I tried to call the restaurant but the phone lines have been busy for over an hour and I think they leave the phone off the hook to not receive calls. We came in on Mother's Day to get some food to go and I was so impressed! The burgers are huge! My husband and I both got the Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger and it was so delicious. I got onion rings with mine and he got fries which were both amazing too. Great quality of ingredients and a great cook on the food as well. We got a side of mozzarella sticks as well and they were very tasty and were definitely homemade and not from a box like a lot of places. Even the sauces were great and tasted homemade too! We will definitely be coming back here :-) I will say the price point is worth it for the portion sizes, too. This was a random find on our way home from visiting the snow this past weekend. My fiance and I went on a hike on Mount Laguna so that the pups could get some snow play in and on our way home were in great need of food! I remembered going to a cafe in Alipine before, but as it was a Sunday, we quickly realized that that cafe, along with most other restaurants in the town, were already closed for the evening. We were left with two options and went ahead to Alpine Tavern & Grill. Taverns can be either really wonderful or not that great and because I didn't have time to do much reserach, I had no idea what I got us into. The food ended up being phenomenal! I opted for a burger with a side of macaroni salad and my fiance went with the buffalo chicken wrap with a side of ranch. We also shared the pretzel with jalapeno cheese dipping sauce. While the pretzel itself was pretty basic, the cheese sauce was so flavorful and spicy. My burger was cooked perfectly and the macaroni salad yummy! My fiance really enjoyed his buffalo chicken wrap, but thought the fries and creamy ranch for dipping was the start of the plate. There were so many other great sounding items on the menu as well. I used to go here every weekend for months when I lived in Alpine 4 years ago, within my travels I was finally able to make it back and finally have the French dip I had longed for, not only was the service absolutely atrocious and everyone just seemed like they couldn't be bothered to be there, but the food was disgusting. I used to compare any French dip I've ever had to the taverns and they didn't compare in the slightest. Now, it compares to dog food. My husband and I used to go there every weekend great food. But my father turned 80 I had called to make reservations they took them. When we got there it was loaded and they said we do not take reservations. We were done my father had been in and out of hospital and had respiratory issues the wind was cold and door kept opening and I didnt want to take the chance of him getting deathly I'll again. I called back to complain they wouldn't anwser no call back. I went in there by myself one day and Carmen was there she thinks she owns the place because shes friends with the owner. I told her what happened she said yes my server didnt like the way you reacted. I thought hmm who's the customer. She was rude and bitchy and she fires all the good people. She thought her little attitude was appropriate um not 2 days before I had a friend pass. I wouldn't go back there if you payed me.
