Everything went well. We have gone there for years. We had my son's graduation party there in 1996. Currently I meet a friend there for brunch on Sunday's. I get a delicious avocado omelet and she gets a huge American breakfast. Usually we get fruit. But I love the chips and salsa and hot carrots. Been going there on and off for 20 years and their food has gotten progressively worse. Refried beans are soupy and tasteless. Service is alright, but the drinks quality have also gone downhill. Seems like alot of prebatching going on behind the bar, which can work don't get me wrong. But if you not a busy restraunt that's constantly moving through product. Then you have all the time in the world to shake up a fresh cocktail. We have been going to Marieta's for years. We were unimpressed with our latest dinner. The food was tepid, as though it had been cooked earlier and merely warmed up to serve. We used a coupon, which provided a buy-one-get-one-free combination entree if you also purchased two cocktails. The cocktails were very good. The regular prices were too high for what we received unless you used a coupon. That you have to now pay for additional chips is off-putting. The service was good (quick and friendly). To the Restaurant from a Consumer: As restaurants seek to avoid the direct increase of entree prices by adding fees or charging obsurd prices for beverages and sides (or, in the case of Marieta's, chips), I seek to cut expenses by reducing the frequency of dining out, only having water as a beverage, and seeking to reduce gratuities back to the more reasonable 15%, unless service was truly outstanding. I recommend restaurants seek volume over price increases. If enough people cannot afford to go out to dinner, you ultimately suffer. read more

This is by far the best Mexican food in East County . Far better food than hacienda . The staff here are so sweet and welcoming . I give them 4.5 . We loved it here . My favorite dish here is the camarones al mojo de ajo . This dish is served with side of corn and rice and your choice of fresh and delicious tortillas. You also get the choice of soup or salad . I get the albóndigas soup . The soup so good . I love this meal very much . My brother in law said they have some of the best carne asada he's ever eaten . The combo plates are delicious. I had a carne asada burrito & it consisted of a flour tortilla filled with chopped burned dry beef & chopped onions . There was a very small amount of gucamole topped with a radish slice . My husband ordered two beef tacos , he got the same chopped dry burned beef , a very small amount of lettuce on the plate . I left 1/2 of the burrito . We were seated in a booth in a corner with a wall blocking the air flow & it is in the 90's today ! This has been the worst Mexican food I have ever had & we will not be returning !! They weren't very busy it seemed, however I was ignored, IGNORED for 15 mins before I left in disgust. I sat at the bar and watched for 10 mins as bartender and waiters severed people next to me and behind at the tables in the bar ... only to be completely ignored for 10MINS I then went to the bathroom thinking surely someone will greet me upon my return ?!?! But NOPE again completely ignored again !!! After 5 more mins I got up and left ... and as I was leaving I walked by TWO servers only to be ignored as I left !!!!! NOT A WORD ...not a glance !!! Terrible service. Now their food is no where good enough for this kind of service not even close over priced bland garbage slop ... a step above dog food really ... so to cop an attitude about the hospitality is lame to say the least. Took my daughter and son in law to lunch. The food was excellent. Fresh and flavorful . Even the salsa for the chips was great. Best coffee I have drank in a long time. Homade lemonade. The dining room is colorful and festive and has ample tables for the number of people that frequent this place. There is a bar area with tables where you can choose to dine. In the bar area there is a tv that usually has some game on. You can sit at the bar and have a drink and order something to eat too. The menu has a good selection of Mexican food. My favorites area the Chili Relleno and Chili Colorado Burrito. All the great flavors of good Mexican food! Went last night for two of our adult daughters birthdays, had made a reservation for 9 of us and they were ready when we got there... Food was so good, I just can't say enough how good it was. I wish I had taken pics before we started eating, ordered the Carne Asada Nacho's to start with a few other things all of it was good. Everyone loved there food from Mole to a Quesadilla with a sauce to die for on it. I personally ordered the fajitas as I had seen them before, I have to say they are the best I ever had. Tostada loco was cold soggy and burnt on the edges obviously sat for a long tine cheese had solidified there was no onion no tomato very disappointed. Terribly slow service. " Their Happy Hour is Cool " My wife and I went to Marieta's East to enjoy their Happy Hour in the bar area. They have great Mexican beers on tap, including one that you never hardly see anywhere, Dos XX Amber. They also have Pacifico on Tap along with many other good beers. Marietas Bar Top area is decorated so cool ( Look at the pictures). Also if you order food in the bar area during Happy Hour, you will get a Free Appetizer. We received 2 very tasty Tostadas before our meal . Marietas also has very good tasting Tortilla chips and salsa. Manuel our server was again very nice with a very happy and smiley attitude. My wife and I had a plate of Chili Rellenos with beans and rice, which was delicious. I had some Cheese Enchiladas with red sauce, which was very tasty. We came here to check out the banquet room and to have some dinner.....well it turns out the banquet room is available every single day.........except for Friday.........which is when we need it. Fudge I say....fudge......well we at least go to sample the last Marietas in the greater SD area. And unfortunately this one was the worst :-(.....If I could do a super sad face, I would. The restaurant is just kind of weird. The layout of the place isnt inviting at all and I almost felt uncomfortable in there. Intimate it is not! But anyways.....onto the food and service. We got seated and our waiter came over and took our order for some drinks. He brought back the drinks and then took our food order. We still had yet to get chips and salsa which is shitty. At the other locations, the bus boys are on top of it and get you your chips pronto. At this place not so much. The salsa is near identical to the one in Santee so that was awesome and the only good part of the meal. The chips were alright. Crunchy and all but they werent the freshest which was a downer. Our food came out pretty quick. The tacos were smaller than the other Marietas and this place tasted just like La Mesa......kind of bland.....WTF is up with that? We finished our meal and were ready to get the hell out of dodge. During our whole meal, nobody came by to see how we were doing. Nobody came by to refill our drinks. It was shitty service. The only reason we got a refill of chips is because our waiter asked us when he brought out the food. If not for that, there would have been no interaction with anyone. I usually tip very well but tonight I left the dude like 12% and that was the smallest tip I can rememeber leaving in my adult life. I will never come back here. The Santee and La Mesa locations are so much better. I love Marietas and have always had good times eating there....... except for tonight..........and thats a damn shame. read more

Wow, Marieta's recently changed management. Service is better, they expanded the liquor and beer selections, and they added more tv's for sports. The owners are committed and can be seen checking on every guest. I have been back several times since the change and my experience each time has been consistently great. All of the dishes on the menu are still delicious. I promise you will not find better Pozole or Carne Asada in East County. OMG ask for secret menu items: *Refried beans and chorizo - as advertised with gooey cheese. Excellent with chips! *Aguachile de camaron - shrimp, seasoned with chili peppers, lime juice, salt and slices of onion and avocado. Perfect appetizer. *Chiles Toreado - fresh jalapeños that are sauteed in oil until the skin is blistered all over. Spiccccy and delicious. Good with anything! The service is very friendly and attentive and if your Spanish is as bad as mine, you'll appreciate being able to order your meal without being laughed at. The food is legit and the portions are large. Marieta's is worthy of a drive to East County. Best thing about this restaurant is their salsa. Second best thing is that you can order a pint (or more) of the salsa to take home with you. Third best thing is, you know, the food they serve. This location is larger than the Santee restaurant, but it can still get busy. We don't usually have to wait here, but I think the longest we've ever had to hang out before getting a table was maybe 20 minutes. The service can be a little shoddy, depending on which waiter you get. There are times when they're friendly and smiling, yet there are times where you get the surly one who looks and acts for all the world like they'd rather be anywhere else. That's actually a bit more prevalent at the Santee location, but you can sometimes get the not-so-friendly servers here, as well. The food is good, flavorful, and comes out fast (hardly ever enough time to finish the chips and salsa and ask for a refill!) I love the Chile Colorado and the Pollo Ranchero (the chicken meat is juicy and the sauce that they cover it in is slightly spicy.) Their enchiladas and flautas are good, as are the carnitas. They have some good combo deals, for those times when you can't quite decide if you want an enchilada or a taco. Everything comes with rice and refried beans (and all the chips and salsa you can handle!) The décor is more than a little dated, and sometimes it can be a little dark in there. Parking can sometimes be a pain, but they use a parking lot a short walk away. If you can't find parking there, you have to go with street parking. We've parked across the street and darted through traffic before - definitely not recommended! read more
