Overview: A nice eatery in Barona Casino, a large variety of food and pretty good food, but some are hit or miss. ---- My favorites are the ox tail soup, calamari, lamb shank, and pistachio crusted lamb chops The bbq pork fried rice was not that good, the bbq pork was a bit dry and tough and the rice was a bit too salty. The fried calamari and the fries it comes with are so good, especially topped with lemon juice and dipped in the tartar sauce. The ox tail soup has very tender meat, but I wish there were more vegetables in the soup. Sometimes the vegetables aren't cooked enough. ---- Service can be hit or miss, but we had Wes this last time who was fantastic! Super friendly and attentive, all around awesome. ---- The lighting is a bit dim and makes the menu a little hard to read but it does make for a more intimate atmosphere. ---- Overall: there are some great places to eat at in Barona but we consistently choose Sage! read more

Lovely cafe shop inside the Borona Casino, voted the best 24-hour restaurant in San Diego for many years in a row. We had a nice and enjoyable table next to the window with a fantastic view. The staff was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Our prime rib dinners are great, we had 12 Oz and a 14oz, both were pretty big, they probably oversized the small one, and we can hardly tell the difference. I have been dining at the Sage Cafe for the past 10 to 15 years now and I have to say that every single time has been amazing! The food, the service, the ambience, everything is fantastic, especially when considering that this place is open 24 hours a day. In my experience, most 24-hour restaurants serve very mediocre food. Not the case at sage Cafe! Everything tastes fresh and delicious. Like going to Grandma's house. And you can order everything from breakfast to lunch to dinner including prime rib which is their house specialty all the time. It's a little drive out of San Diego but so worth it. To begin with, Sage Cafe is located in the Barona Ranch and Casino, which is the cleanest and most beautiful casinos around! The restaurant is a cafe but the interior is more like an upscale restaurant with an amazing view of the golf course. Wes, our server was so warm and friendly, and that always makes dining a treat. Sage began by offering fry bread with honey, powdered and cinnamon sugar, yummy! My wife and I both ordered the everyday Prime Rib dinner which comes with either soup or salad, green beans, garlic mashed potatoes and ice cream for dessert. All was well seasoned and fresh but the star of the meal was the prime rib. It was prepared a perfect medium rare and was so perfectly cooked you could almost cut it with a fork! Food here today was bountiful and top notch for Barona. I usually start with the waffle but was stoked to receive a bread basket featuring fry bread (!!!), which I'd never seen here before. I added a drizzle of honey and took an immediate trip to carb heaven. The calamari app was a huge portion, heavy on the breading but still scrumptious when doused with fresh lemon and tartar sauce. Service sucked - waited a while for waitress and said something to long-time server as he passed by but he just kept walking. It's been a while since the last time I dined in at Sage cafe. Took my girlfriend to Barona for a little weekend gateway. We woke up early and craved for a traditional American breakfast. She ordered waffle with strawberries and added an extra crispy harsh brown, and I ordered steak and egg with toast. It took a bit long to get our order after we sat down, but within acceptable waiting time. The server was friendly. Pretty cozy to eat here with the country side decor. Sage Café at Barona Casino is hands-down one of the best hidden gems in San Diego County -- and the fact that it's open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year makes it even better! It doesn't matter if you come in at 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., the menu stays the same, and you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner anytime. The consistency in both food quality and service is honestly impressive. I've been here several times, and one thing that really stands out is the amount of food you get for the price. One of my all-time favorites is the 14 oz Complete Prime Rib Dinner for just $23.95. You get a perfectly cooked, tender prime rib served with au jus, grilled mashed potatoes, and green beans. It also includes your choice of soup or a crisp iceberg wedge salad, plus an ice cream dessert. I chose the wedge salad to start, which came out quickly and was incredibly fresh with a huge portion. When the prime rib arrived, it was cooked to perfection -- juicy, flavorful, and honestly massive. I almost couldn't finish it! For dessert, I went with strawberry ice cream -- just a scoop, but the perfect sweet touch to end a great meal. And before I forget -- they start you off with Indian fry bread and butter, which is absolutely delicious and feels like getting half a loaf of warm, fluffy bread. On another occasion, I came in for breakfast, and once again, the experience was fantastic. I ordered the Barona Deuces Wild for $12.95, which comes with 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and 2 pancakes, plus hash browns and toast. When it arrived, the entire table was full -- I couldn't believe how much food came with it. Everything was cooked just the way I asked: eggs scrambled perfectly, sausage well done, and pancakes fluffy and golden. The ambience at Sage Café is a wonderful mix between casual and formal, giving off more of a hotel-style dining vibe. Sitting by the windows in the dining room offers lovely views, but personally, I prefer a cozy booth. The restaurant features beautiful hand-painted scenery, which I believe depicts the Barona Reservation, adding a special touch that connects to the local area. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal any time of day. The service here is top-notch, easily on par with -- if not better than -- some high-end restaurants. The staff is friendly, attentive, and constantly checking in to make sure everything's perfect. If you're in Ramona or near Barona Casino, and you want great food at a great price any time of day or night, Sage Café is the place to go. Okay, I love Barona Casino. It's a casino I thoroughly enjoy visiting BUT... this cafe is the first restaurant I have ever walked out of, and I will not be returning to in the future. We went on a Sunday evening around 7pm l, and there was only 1 person in front of us requesting to be seated. Once he was helped, the host greeted us and I asked him if they had availability for 2-people without reservations. He didn't answer but instead grabbed two menus and ushered us in. We looked at each other happy since we didn't have to wait, and because we were getting seated quickly. He put us in the back booth near the kitchen entrance.. So I thought "okay, this is a good spot to be. The servers always pass through here". Well, the lie detector determined that was a lie haha. It was almost comedy at one point... because we never found out who our server was. There was a girl walking around fulfilling drink orders.. And she had a REALLY hard time understanding that I wanted a root beer. She said "we don't have that." I said... "yes, I think you do.. It's what I always order at all the Barona restaurants lol" she went and asked another person, and then brought out the root beer in question. If you're unfamiliar with what a guest is asking for, rather than saying you don't have whatever it is, go ask someone first... that's customer service 101. Flash forward 25 min. YES, I know.. What was I thinking?... BUT we gave them a chance because I was trying to be understanding that they may be understaffed and maybe they are still in-training? Well then 25min. quickly became 30min. and nobody stopped to ask us if we've been helped. Were we looked at by everybody passing who worked there? Yes. Did anyone stop to ask why we didn't have ANY plates on our table for 30min.? No. Our server was still an unknown entity to us at that point... and we were STARVING! So, I did what I never wanted to have to do... and grabbed my bag, got up, and walked out. I stopped at the host stand and asked if I can pay for the drinks we consumed.. And told him we've been here 30min. with no server to take our order or acknowledgment. He looked at me, then at the dining room and asked "were you sitting there?" I said yes, and he said "im sorry about that, don't worry about the drinks." No explanation of what happened, nobody brought ot the front to talk to us about what happened to better understand why we were leaving... it was terrible management. We left that restaurant and got food at the Barona food court haha. Point of the story is... if you have all the time in the world.. are not starving....and don't mind having to explain what you want to the server because they don't understand, by all means please stop in to Sage Café. If you are hungry, and just want to get yourself some quick food then to the gambling floor as soon as possible? The window seats have awesome views of the valley. Their Indian fry bread is always a must before our meal. It is addicting and so good hot and fresh, with some added butter, cinnamon, and powder sugar. Albondigas soup is decent. I enjoy their buffalo wings appetizer, I get it with the sauce on the side (I'm not a fan of buffalo sauce). The Prime Rib is great. The Indian Butter Chicken is pretty good. I love French toast, however, their Barona's World Famous French Toast is NOT to my liking... and oh yea, their cheesecake is the best cheesecake in town! read more

This is the restaurant inside the Barona Hotel and Casino. It's nice and spacious inside, the food was good and I thought the prices were reasonable. I had lunch there on a weekday, and my only negative concern is that the service was friendly, but seemed pretty slow. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich for $13.95 which came with a side of onion rings, which I thought was quite good. This is a good place to enjoy a meal if you are staying at the hotel or spending some time there. Haven't been here in more than 10 years. It was a busy afternoon when my wife and I decided to try this place out. It was my wife's first time here. We had to check in and reserve our seats. The ambiance was serene, with a sense of cleanliness pervading the air. As for the food, it didn't disappoint. I opted for their prime rib, which came with a choice of salad or soup, followed by a delightful serving of ice cream for dessert. The complimentary bread was both flavorful and satisfying. Initially, the service was commendable. However, as we requested our check at the end, time seemed to stretch indefinitely. Eventually, we had to flag down someone to acknowledge our request. Our server was absolutely lovely, friendly, warm, and attentive despite being clearly stretched thin. She truly deserves a 5-star rating for her effort and attitude. The only downside of our evening was the slow service, which unfortunately affected the overall experience. We waited quite a while for our meals to arrive and even longer to receive our check at the end of the night. It was a busy Saturday evening, and it seemed that there simply weren't enough servers to accommodate the full dining room. This isn't a reflection on our waitress, who was doing her best while juggling multiple tables. I believe the issue could easily be improved by adding more staff on busy nights. And they taste authentic. The staff is amazing! They are very caring and friendly. It is because they have a FABULOUS MANAGER! Michelle, the Sage Manager is simply the BEST! She goes out of her way to help her staff, when needed. She treats her staff and customers like Family. One time, while we were waiting to be seated. I spotted Michelle , take a seat at a customers table, and took her order. I was floored by her, making her customer feel at home. You can tell the chicken and hashbrowns were leftovers that were refried before serving, bcuz they were stale & dry; including the dry gravy. The eggs were freshly made, overall 1/10! Server was forgetful on requested items and only gave drink refills upon requests. Food came out fairly fast, but then again most of it were just reheated.
