Waited an hour for entry. We were seated at 7:11pm. At 7:40pm, we had not even been offered a glass of water. We had to walk around the restaurant and search for an employee. We were finally approached at 7:45pm by a waitress, and this was after we asked a different waitress walking by for our order to be taken. She simply, "No, I am not your waitress. This used to be great until COVID-19. Since then, they truly don't want you to come here. The place is never even half full. They started saying it was an hour's wait, no matter the day or time. The wedge salad came out first & I felt like I was in a restaurant ran by 3 year olds... it was literally a quarter of an ice berg lettuce with cheese and cucumbers on the side. I've never had cucumbers on a wedge but I'm willing to live a little. Anyway no check back from our server ever, he must have been very busy. Our steak and eggs came out... we ordered medium rare, eggs over med.. we got med steak eggs over easy. Still bomb don't get me wrong. We really like this place. Large portions, prices were very reasonable, and the food is quite good surprisingly enough. Came here for dinner one night after boating around at San Vicente. The restaurant is at the back of the casino if you enter from the main entrance. We were able to get a table right away by the window. Complimentary break that was really delicious, came with honey and powdered sugar. Ordered prime rib to share and that was cooked to perfect and very reasonably priced. Nice cut of meat! Honest review: Bread: 9/10 came out hot. My only take on is that it came as assorted and I kind of don't like wheat and the flat sugary one. Meatball soup: 9/10 Very small portion but at the same time I enjoyed this the most. It tasted like your typical vegetable soup (carrots,celery,onion etc..) with 2 medium size meatballs. Prime rib plate: 8/10 mashed potatoes & string beans looked like it's from a tv dinner. Ordered the meat medium, but got it medium well. But for $23 it filled me up. This place is overall OKAY. The price for their dishes is good compared to other places; portion sizes as well. You get complimentary bread for the first round. The Chinese bread tasted warm and soft, but the other breads were hard and cold. My entree came with soup or salad. I chose a salad which came as a wedge salad with all the toppings on the side. My entree was the ribeye that came with a side of string beans and loaded potato. They said it was loaded potato, but to me it was just a potato. Loaded potatoes are usually topped with things such as sour cream, bacon, cheese or chives. I got a side of butter and sour cream, but that was it. The steak was cooked to my liking (rare), but it lacked flavor. I usually don't do A1 sauce, but I had to use it this time. Everything that came with my entree was overall bland. My husband got the oxtail soup. He underestimated the portion. It came in a big bowl so we had leftovers. He also ordered bbq pork with rice. He liked it, but I thought it also lacked flavor. The service is okay. Our servers seemed kind of stress and he forgot my aunt's salad. The food also took a while to come out. My wife and I had dinner there based on Yelp reviews that called this place "romantic. I told this to the person who took our name down...and she laughed when I called her restaurant romantic. After an hour wait, no big deal, we were seated and had to wait another 20 minutes just to place our order. The server was flustered and wanted to take our order as quickly as possible. Not welcoming at all. It took forever for the salad to arrive. Then more food would come, with no one offering to clear the dishes we had just used. Finally I just started putting the dishes on the floor so I'd have room to eat the new food arriving. Finally someone came by to scoop up our dishes. The only reason this was not a 1 star was because the service was on point. I had a grilled chicken salad and she had fried chicken. First the salad, the romaine was fresh and the dressing came on the side, which was fine, but the chicken was disgustingly cold and dry af. Its as if it was cooked days in advance, sat in a plastic tub in the fridge, until it was ordered and thrown in top of fresh romaine. Also the chicken pieces was so small, it barely passed as a portion. The fried chicken was worse. I grew up with my fam buying Banquet frozen chicken that came in a box. This chicken was worse, barely warm as if microwaved after it was deep fried ages ago and then recooked. Mushy, no crunch, and greasier than any fast food fried chicken I've ever eaten, including KFC, Churches, Popeyes, Bonchon, Wingstop, and Buffalo Wild Wings. It's really too bad. The buffet has been closed since the start of covid so you're left with this restaurant as an option, unless you consider going to the food court. Service was excellent from the server. The Sage Cafe is located inside the Barona Casino. It's a nice size restaurant that accommodated our family for my dad's 82nd Birthday. The staff was friendly and greeted us there. We were given this complimentary hot fresh bread that looks like pita bread. They are so delicious when you add honey to them. We all shared appetizers like fries, calamari, lumpias, salad, albondigas, and vegetable eggrolls. Appetizers tasted delicious . My chicken fried steak was breaded too much and very thick gravy. I prefer light breading on my chicken fried steak, my dad's prime Rib was ordered medium well and got medium rare. He asked for it to be cooked more. My sister's shrimp linguine was good. My friends shrimp fried rice was good. The server seemed to be away from our table a long time when we were asking for things like a knife to cut the cake, more coffee and drinks. I overall found the appetizers were very delicious along with the complimentary bread. Some of the entrées could have been made better, but overall, I give a score of 3 stars out of 5. I hate leaving one star to a place I used to love so much, but tonight was the last chance I am willing to give this place. First of all, they are apparently now not doing first come first serve. They are attending to addicts first. "VIP" they say, people who spend an enormous amount of money gambling. The service has always been shi*ty but tonight was literally the worst ever in my history of 10 years coming to this place. We literally saw our waitress about 3 times the entire 2 hours we were there. It took literally 15 minutes to get a drink and we only got the drinks because I went up to the host and told her we had not been attended yet. The waitress then came in a bit*hy mood and took our order. The bread was freezing and it took 20 minutes to even receive it after asking our waitress for it. We were never served refills the entire time and my steak was rare when I asked for medium rare. I had to ask the hostess for refills and when they brought our refills, someone cleared our plates with more than half our food on it and we weren't done. We were going to get dessert too and I told the dude and he just looked confused and continued taking our full plates without asking if we were finished and left the check still that we did not ask for. This is soooo not ok. As a waitress myself, I absolutely have zero tolerance for shi* service. Especially for the prices we are paying for this food on top of the 2 and a half hour wait time. Been here a few times over the last 15 years. Nothing has really changed. The ambiance is relaxing and the service is excellent. The food is consistently delicious. I enjoy a sit down meal once in a while compared to the food court or a buffet. My go to meals here are either the prime rib dinner or the New York Steak and eggs. Love coming here as the breakfast is always on point and made to my liking. My omelette was packed with fresh spinach, onions, bacon, mushrooms, cheddar cheese and topped with a pretty avocado presentation. It was cooked to perfection!!!! 5 stars alone!!! The hash browns were filling. The wheat toast was very good. I grabbed my coffee with vanilla on the way in so that was good I saved a couple bucks but of course tipped that hostess. They have the BEST coffee!!!! The waitress, Yolanda, was nice, always checked in, and provided good customer service. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. Very strange way of running this cafe. Only diamond members can place an order "to go" at the cashier's register. All others have to be seated in order to place an order "to go", wait for 10-15 minutes for a server to come around and take your order and then wait till they bring it in the "to-go" bag. Who came up with that system? It is very inefficient, not to mention unsanitary. You have to sit down at the table with dinnerware set up. You place an order and while you wait those plates get touched, breathe on and maybe even coughed on ( who knows). Once you grab your to-go bag I doubt those plates are changed, and on to the next customer they go. Also, I would like to point that the man taking the "to go" orders at "diamond player card" is very rude and cocky, he tends to talk down to you. I have experienced it on several occasions even when I previously ordered there. Management should address this and make more common sense policies. read more

Sage Café is an always open sit down restaurant inside Barona. The menu is a mix of classic Americana fare, Mexican, Asian etc. Our group of 11 had a dining credit for Sage Café. Making reservations on a Saturday morning, we were seated in about a half hour. After placing our orders, we waited..................and waited....................and waited. Once our food came out, the adults received their entrees first. The kids had to wait even longer. If anything, kids should receive their meals prior to the adults. Plus, we weren't given baskets of bread to quell our appetites & had to request them. My entrée was Sage Cafe's pad Thai. I had the choice of chicken or shrimp, with my choice going to shrimp. I knew not to expect authentic pad Thai, the kind you'd find from a hole in the wall Thai spot, and when given the choice of either chicken or shrimp, I knew it would definitely not be authentic, as the authentic stuff would have both. But, I haven't had pad Thai in a very long time &, when compared to the rest of the menu, wasn't too pricey. Sage Cafe's pad Thai was a good representation of pad Thai. Sweet, sour (which I could've used more of), and a decent portion. The noodles had the right consistency, with just enough chewiness for that wonderful mouth feel. I also had some of the fried calamari. I enjoyed this appetizer, with the accompanying sauces. I would've preferred the calamari to be crispier, but as a whole, I enjoyed the dish. Upon recommendation of my companions, I also had a small bowl of albondigas soup. My first time trying albondigas, I thought it wasn't bad. The meatball was large & seasoned well. W/o prior experience eating albondigas, I can't truthfully say if Sage's version was up to snuff, though. Having already touched on the service, I was very disappointed on the wait time & how our plates were staggered and lack of bread. Granted, our table was a party of 11, but simple things like bringing out bread to snack on would've masked the wait time. And, the wait time between the adult's & kid's food proved a buzzkill to me. My first experience dining at Sage Café, I can honestly say I'd much rather save money & eat at Barona's excellent food court. The wait was too long & lack of simple dining etiquette really left a sour taste in my mouth. They were stale instead of crispy. The steaks were okay but there was no flavor to it. The eggs were well just eggs. My favorite thing was probably just the cheesy garlic toast. I honestly would't give this place one star. I had dined in yesterday night and had the worst experience ever. Our server "Rodrigo" was unattentive and when he was present he had a crappy attitude. Not once did he go to my table and refill my drinks nor did he check how the meal was for us. We ordered 2 prime rib dinners-he forgot the soup for one of the dinners and didn't pack our deserts to go. I honestly don't how he calls himself a server. Now onto the food it self we ordered the prime ribs medium rare and we got: DRY, WELL DONE, AND LACKING FLAVOR PRIME RIBS. So fast forward to today I had called and left a message for the Sage's Manager "DALLAS". It took him awhile to call back. I told him about my experience & his only resolution was not to replace my totally incorrect meal but to replace my desserts that I never got in the first place. "WOW" great job Dallas those managerial classes really paid off. So in closing the waitstaff service beyond sucks, the food sucks, and the Sage Manager can't do his job whatsoever and it shows in the food, as well as the staff. read more

The hostess was so rude and explained that we either had to wait for the 6th person to finish in the restroom or they would seat them alone. Once we where seated they would not allow anyone to join us. She also added if we where Diamond Players she would allow them to join us once we were seated or she would be happy to make a reservation for us. I was very happy with the dinner I had here with my family tonight. I had never been here, but I had heard great things about the food. The menu selection was great. Lots of comfort food items and what really caught my eye, prime rib! I'm a big prime rib fan because I love that slow cooked flavor paired with some yummy horseradish. Sage cafe offers a full prime rib dinner for $17!!!! The full dinner comes with bread and butter, a soup or salad, 2 sides and ice cream. The bread and butter that came out to us for starters was delicious and piping hot. I chose chicken tortilla soup to start with and this was yummy. I added a few dashes of Tabasco to my soup for a nice kick. I ordered my prime rib cooked medium with garlic mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. My prime rib was cooked beautifully and had some great flavor. I loved the addition of rosemary to the prime rib. The meat had a great crust that was formed on the outside of it which just added to the flavor. Horseradish sauce that came along with this wasn't overpowering and went wonderful with the prime rib. The side of garlic mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were both very good. I get annoyed when places have something with garlic on the menu and no garlic flavor is present, sage cafe definitely brought the garlic flavor. I have to say that the service was amazing. Blanca was the waitress for our table of 8 and she took great care of us. The decor here is comfortable and beautiful at the same time. I loved the design and decor. Talk about good food for the price, you just can't beat Sage Cafe. My first visit there I wasn't acquainted with the portion sizes and ordered the braised short rib and vegetables. Most restaurants I have been two usually give one large short rib on some mashed potatoes with gravy and a side vegetable. Sage however gave me 3 large short ribs for a very reasonable price. The ribs were excellent by the way, but no way I could eat three of them in one sitting. That's pretty much my only negative I have for this place. I came in the Sage around 3AM and saw this COCKROACH while waiting for someone to sit me down, 5 seconds later I saw ANOTHER one running across the floor.
