I love a good pumpkin anything and Mary's Donuts has the niche in making a very good pumpkin muffin. The muffin was very flavorful and soft and moist. It was a little gummy towards the center, as if it needed a little more time in the oven, but it was still great. The lady at the counter was nice enough. It's Mary's Doughnuts. They are open all the time. They always have a large variety of doughnuts, sandwiches, and coffee. Employees are friendly enough, service is fast, weekend mornings are busy, naturally, but they keep the doughnuts coming out fast. There is a cheesecake doughnut that is insanely delicious. They are usually out of them, but if you're lucky, there might be one in the refrigerated section left. SO good! Prices are on par with other doughnut shops. Again, always open! Literally 24 hours. I've only been to Mary's a few times for donuts. So today I came it for a sandwich and an apple fritter. Maybe it's just because I'm not a regular but all of the workers always act standoffish. Never a greeting when I've walked in. I take my time to look at the sandwich menu and the lady at the sandwich register leaves. So I scoot down, looking at the donuts they have. The donut cashier stands there until I ask about a certain donut in the case. She answers and I order the donuts. I ask, "Do I need to order my sandwich at the other register?" She says yes, but rings it up anyways. I get the California sandwich and two donuts $25.89 with tip. Asked for Jalapeño bread for my sandwich, didn't receive that, no biggie, I can live with that. Sandwich was a little bland. Plain turkey, provolone, mashed avocado, sprouts, tomato. I will have to add a little garlic salt and pepper to the other half. Now, I have been to Mary's before for the Apple fritter and it's been okay. But today, 12/4, my fritter tasted burnt. Not like a little crispy burnt, like burnt to the point that it's the only thing I can taste. Either burnt or they are using really old oil? It's hard to say. Maybe it was a rough morning for production but to burn, then also put out product for sale is never cool. I'd be more understanding if they said they didn't have fritters because they burnt them. We went there today for a breakfast sandwich but ended up with a Hot Patrami and a Bacon, Turkey and Avocado and of course the cream filled donuts. We get home and open the box, this pastrami and provolone has huge. See the pics. This sandwich was delicious. Mary's you are back in rotation!!!! Mary's is an East County institution and they're always reliable. I mostly stop in for donuts to bring to the family on the weekends and they tend to sell out of the fan favorites quickly, but the donuts are good and the service is quick. I've heard the sandwiches are delicious and giant. Any time you stop in you're bound to see regulars chatting with the staff or stopping in to grab their pre-orders to take to whatever gathering awaits. The sandwiches here are a good size. I know for me I was shocked to see how pricey their menu was but I think that it was totally worth it. I got the Veggie sandwich and my partner got a breakfast sandwich. I really enjoyed how fresh my sandwich was and the breakfast sandwich was very savory and had a good kick to it with the chipotle mayo sauce. Two ladies again, older one with white/blonde hair on the bigger side and the other tanned with dark hair and glasses and also on the bigger side. They're about the same in every way. We ordered online via Clover, picked up the order, and drove home to eat it. $44 for a half rodeo purse, a messie bessie, and a half dozen doughnuts. The rodeo purse was awesome, but the roast beef on the messie bessie ($18) was past its prime and pretty sour. Quality product and stand up service What I love most about this place is that they care a lot about their product ! I stop here about once a week around 3 AM when I get off work, and I've been doing this for probably the last five years. The gentleman who works at that time is always attentive. You can tell he loves his work. He always shows me the new flavors or catches me up on what ya changed ! I know he gives day old croissants to the local homeless and is very involved in the community ! It's just an all around good time. I've been coming to Mary's donuts since 2012 back at their old location in Santee. It's really great that they have branched out and have a store in Lakeside now. Parking is a little weird. They have a lot in the back but if you're lucky you can get a spot on the street I saw they have deli and breakfast lunch menus so I'll have to stop in and try them. Donut case is always impressive on what they offer but I usually stick through my usual order of a maple bar. I decided to get an apple, fritter and man are they ginormous! Honestly, the size of your face and they taste so good! The service is so quick I waited, probably less than a minute before I was helped by one of the employees. I've been to the Santee location at 2 AM and they're always still so nice and welcoming despite the odd hours. Makes me happy to support them throughout all these years and see them expand and grow! I walked in for the first time and was not acknowledged nor was I greeted by any of the 3 ladies behind the counter. I have always been a little uneasy in the East county due to known racism. I couldn't help but get that vibe in this establishment. Finally, one of the ladies came up and asked if she could help me and I ordered. One minute after I was inside, a white woman and her two white children walked in, and the lady noticeably greeted her in a very loud voice "welcome to Mary's donuts!" with a big smile.
