Im such fan of this old school donut shop . The donuts are very fresh and very delicious. You're not going to find unique and overpriced Donuts here . However, you will find classic donuts you grew up eating that are above average in quality and in taste . Their apple fritter is without a doubt one of the best I've ever eaten . And the service is such a pleasure! Their donuts taste so fresh, leaving you craving the next bite. And the freshness lasts longer than a week!! That's unheard of to enjoy a soft donut a week later. "Ok Taste, But Not Much Variety" I went to the Country Donut shop in Lakeside today and was a little disappointed. I had seen a lot of the YELP reviews which are pretty good, but when I walked into the shop they had very little variety of donuts and there were a lot of flies flying around all over the inside of the shop. The people who own this shop are extremely nice people. They always give me like 16 donuts when I buy a dozen. Their donuts are also the best tasting. They are MUCH better than Mary's donuts. I tried it because I saw the reviews and they were not wrong. A buttermilk donut was larger and more delicious than the ones I had at Mary's (more moist on the inside and the icing just tasted better). So I tested the customer service because I read they had poor customer service and asked if they would be willing to make me a blueberry apple fritter. They said they don't make that kind of donut but if I gave them a day they would be happy to make it (I guess certain donuts just don't sell enough to be worth it). Anyway so I went back the next Sunday and the blueberry apple fritter was probably the best donut of my entire life. I looked for flies and I couldn't find any. This is an old shop so it doesn't look slick and new. They don't shove poptarts in their donuts or have crazy donuts. This is a donut shop that has gone under the radar for a long time and I think it deserves some attention. Just try a dozen for friends or family and see what you think. I've been going to this Country Donuts every single week day since the 90's. This fa.ily run store has been overseen by the father, the mother, and now the daughter May. It's quality had always been top-notch. The Donuts are fresh and light and sold at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend a visit to this Lakeside icon. This was my first visit. The donuts were the BEST I have ever had. They put Krispy Kreme to SHAME! I ordered the glazed and French crullers and they melted in our mouths, super moist, super fresh. In the 6 minutes I was there I witnessed the sole employee have to deny 3 customers what they were initially looking for and I was certainly limited as well. Best donuts ever! This place uses quality ingredients, nothing and I mean nothing ever comes back on me which means they know how to cook these donuts correctly. The lady who runs/owns this place has been so kind to my mom for darn near 15 years now, always makes sure she gets her raspberry filled donuts. I've tried every filled donut and they are all high quality fill, none of that weird gel stuff but real fruit filling. The other new donut they have is this wrapped fried tortilla type donut, it's my honeys favorite. She has blueberry, apple, raspberry and I'm sure every other flavor available. I honestly can't praise this place Enough, but to top it off creme de la creme..., they use Farmers Brothers coffee. Not many places still use this expensive coffee, they all went to cheaper coffee, not good donut houses. Honestly I really don't want anyone to find her or even get a good taste, she's my hidden treasure, but dammit I can't keep my big mouth shut!Go and give her donuts a go, I think you won't be disappointed, best of all? I wouldn't say they are understocked- they are oversold- and for a good reason, they are the best donuts around. It's a small mom and pop business-the way donuts should be- not a multi location chain where everything tastes the same. If you go by early, early you can see them in the back making donuts every day. Locals know you have to get here super early before they sell out. As for the "grumpy" counterlady- the place is open 7 days a week 5am til ? And I have never been here when she isn't here-YOU try putting in her schedule and see how cheerful you are!
