Oh Warren how I love thee. Let me count the ways. ....by counting your fabulous restaurants. Bywater is another great addition to the scene and for lovers of the great PVD establishment, North - I guarantee you are going to LOVE Bywater. The design of Bywater is farm house chic soothing colors and industrial design lights creating a great balance for a relaxed but upscale dining experience. The crowd there is equally as mixed. You are just as likely to sit next to a Pvd Westsider (heck of a bike ride to Warren) or a wealthy retiree in their obligatory salmon colored shorts. I will be very honest at this point that the food at Bywater was a bit heavier than my normal dining; however I loved the space, the service was welcoming and attentive and the food was totally on point. The corn and tomato appetizer was warm scrumptious and had just the right amount of smoky bacon flavor. The swordfish was a HUGE serving grilled and chilled sitting upon warmed greens that were farmers market fresh. My lady friend's half chicken was equally a Texas-sized portion, but leftovers made for a phenomenal lunch the next day. We wrapped up out meal with North cookies (sweet & salty) with The Coffee Guy's brew ....... and here is my only caveat regarding Bywater , they did not do TCG justice in how they prepared his coffee - very weak, but so few restaurants get the coffee right. Have dined here a total of three times. Food and service were both quite excellent on each visit. Attentive and friendly staff! Small menu for a small space but PLENTY to choose from. Clean, inviting space. The only thing I wish for would be a wider range of (less expensive) wines to choose from. This will certainly not deter me from becoming a "regular." read more

Oysters to ice cream and each nibble in between. We stumbled across this friendly foodie haven while walking the East Bay. A great treat for a summer evening. Sipped a beer that was pared with my oysters, then the seafood panzanella, of course I could not resist the corn bread and Irish soda bread. But I have to say: Warren has many great restaurants with much great food, but the single best dish to be had in this little food hamlet is Bywater's Duck Tacos. I had them last night, and they brought me joy. We opted to bust out of Providence for a special night's dinner, and headed to Warren on a lark. Bywater seemed to have good reviews, and the place looked cool and cozy, so we headed in, though we didn't have a reservation. We were seated right away in a cozy nook, by the front window and were enjoying our surroundings so much that it was a while before we wondered where our server was. Happily one eventually arrived, and took our drinks order, followed by the maitre'd who apologized for the wait and told us the drinks were on the house! One was a lovely Sangria with Aperol, the other a "Walrus and the Carpenter" -- named after the oyster named after the Lewis Carroll tale -- a brisk gin martini with a pickle garnish. For our appetizer we picked out the crab wantons, fried rangoon style, which evoked that same dish as we'd have had it at our local Asian joint -- but with more crab, richer flavors, and a house-made sauce that had a real extra zing. Then dinner, paired with wines by the glass (which arrived promptly just before the entrees). My partner had the seared sea scallops, which arrived orbiting a delicious planet of red rice, with an unbelievably succulent sauce which featured the unusual ingredient of melon purée; I chose the fluke -- not usually a strongly-flavored fish -- but this arrived perfectly steamed, wrapped in greens in a basin of yet another amazing sauce, with what tasted like kimchee and little delicate slices of roasted apple. I can honestly say that I've never tasted such a surprising yet perfectly balanced pair of dishes. Dessert was a glass of excellent port, accompanied by the legendary cookies and milk and a sphere of house-made ice cream which was really extraordinary. All in all, one of our best dining experiences ever in Rhode Island. Wish we could give it a sixth star! read more

I have been wanting to go here for a while as I had heard a lot of good things, so was looking forward to a great dinner. The patio dining area was very charming a great covid parking lot make over. The waitress was very attentive and we ordered drinks which arrived quickly. It was Monday which We fund out was buck a shuck ,so ordered a half dozen. A dozen arrived quickly and when I told the waitress I had ordered a 1/2 doz, she apologized and said they would only charge for 6 but left all 12 for us to eat. We ordered the charcuterie platter though at $28.00 we were kind of on the fence as that was similar in pricing to the dinners and we thought it may be too much to eat before dinner. No worries there, It was probably the most unusual charcuterie tray I had ever had, sunflower seeds, pickled blueberries, some very ordinary pitted green olives, wild boar (which was good) two sauces and some spicy beans of some nature. All in al very interesting and tasty but to my mind not worth $28.00 and we certainly did not need to worry about filing up on it. We then waited over 30 minutes for our dinner to arrive. I ordered scallops (428.00) which arrived on a bed of sort of creamed corn. The corn was tasty ,the 5 scallops were about the size of quarters a little over seared and dry and a little too salty. My son said the lobster roll ($30.00) was good with a grilled bun but was disappointed it didn't have all that much lobster, Way more bread than lobster. We left content but not full. Unfortunately I would have to say there are many more restaurants on Water Street that I would return to before going to Bywater again . Excellent! My dinner date and I had a great experience here, with both food and service. The menu is on the shorter side, which I appreciate as it means you know you're truly getting a specialty instead of a generic menu-filler. House pickles were super briny and yummy, beet salad was top notch with both pickled and roasted beets. We also enjoyed littlenecks in a delectable broth. For entrees, he had a perfectly charred medium rare steak, and I had the scallops which could not have been better. We didn't have dessert as we were too full, but the options sounded scrumptious. We heard this was the hot new spot in the East Bay and with friends went to dinner on a Saturday night. Since there are literally seven tables inside and only four two tops outside we had to wait. It took an hour to get a table and while we waited the shucker behind the raw bar was kind enough to provide us a free app of shrimp. It's an interesting decor with a mix of modern and rustic. The menu is small and there were no specials so before you head here check out the menu online first to ensure there's something you like. We had the cheese plate app which I thought was a nice homage to the former occupant. It was good. I had the large plate gnocchi which is twice the price of a supposed half plate which had close to the same amount of food. Order the half plate if that interests you. Our dinner mates enjoyed their half chicken and halibut. Overall, service was nice and the food was good but nothing was a show stopper. It's a good place but didn't live up to the high reviews others gave it. We'd go back for apps at the bar and cocktails, but the dinner did not live up to expectations. read more

My dinner companions ordered oysters (rave reviews), and the fish entree. Everyone in our party was impressed and unanimously voted to come back soon. Phenomenal food!!! I've been to Bywater 3 times. The last time was by far the best. I came on a Mon night for dollar oysters. Oysters were local from Buzzards Bay - some of the best I've ever had! French fries with aioli are to die for! And a summer addition, the chicken salad was delish. Their version of a dirty martini is fantastic - summer in a glass! The lady bartender was a bit curmudgeon-ey. Despite that I had one of the best meals I've enjoyed at a restaurant in a long time. Thank you Bywater - you rock!!! read more

The service when you walk in is great, cozy atmosphere, friendly owner/server/employees. Your probably wondering why only 3 stars then? The Good: The Smoked fish pate(so good) Drinks(good) Ambience(good) I love food, so naturally I was disappointed with two items that we ordered. Number 1. The Tuna It had a mackerel texture too it, I'm nearly certain it was not yellow tail. I thought it was way to rich. Number 2. The chicken wings were tough and the meat didn't fall right off the bone, also there were too many weird ingredients on the chicken wing plate. I felt if more time would have been spent in the preparation and more attention to the style of cooking involved in the wings, then they wouldn't have had to dress it with a bunch of ingredients. The Wings really just didn't shine. Other then that the staff is wonderful. read more

Looking forward to coming back here after my first visit. My friend and I shared three appetizers: duck tacos, soft shell crab, and pierogies. All were delicious and full of flavor. We had planned to share appetizers as our dinner, and as it turned out, the appetizers on the whole looked more interesting than the main courses. I went to Bywater this past Friday night, and although I have only been there once before I remembered the food being very tasty. I ended up asking to get the Risotto sans the chicken as I am not a chicken eater. The Risotto was creamy delicious with the smokey kale on top. What disappointed me greatly is that they charged me the full $24 for Rissotto despite not getting the chicken in my meal. Ah, Bywater. Where do I begin? We went for our anniversary dinner and I was so excited to try out Warren's newest restaurant! We went at about 7 on a Saturday and there was no wait, which was nice. But it was almost full and there was a steady flow of customers. You can sit indoors or out. We chose in because we were really interested to see all the details of the decor inside. It didn't take long inside to realize that every single detail, from the lighting fixtures and menu holders to the presentation of food and even the soap in the bathroom... Every single thing was so clearly and thoughtfully planned. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The staff is all very friendly and very attentive. From drinks and apps to the meal and dessert, someone always let us know that whatever we had ordered would be out soon. I never felt like I was waiting on anything but I also didn't feel smothered. I think that can be a difficult balance, but the Bywater staff knows how it's done. I started with Bywater's take on a Moscow mule. They added basil which gave it a great flavor. For an app we ordered the grilled corn eloté. It was grilled corn on the cob smothered in a delicious, creamy sauce with cotija cheese and lime. So good. We were also brought complimentary homemade soda bread, which was served on a little wooden board with a ramekin of butter and a little bowl of salt. The bread was fantastic and I don't knew what kind of butter it was but it was so good I wanted to eat it with a spoon. I love the addition of the salt, too. Sprinkling salt on the butter really made it. For the main course, I had a hard time deciding what I wanted. The menu is actually pretty small, which I like because it's not overwhelming; it's simple and concise. I ended up ordering the ricotta gnocchi. The gnocchi came piled with pea greens and had pieces of smoked ham and mushrooms. The ricotta gnocchi was a different texture than I'm used to. More chewy than soft. Overall I really enjoyed the meal; it was super flavorful and I loved the balance of the fresh greens with the creamy, rich gnocchi and ham. My husband ordered the shellfish panzanella. It was lobster, mussels, littlenecks, and sausage mixed in a tomato & herb broth on top of cornbread. He loved it. The cornbread soaking in the broth was delicious. The sausage seemed to be house made but I'm not positive... Wherever it was made, it was reeeeally good. And finally, dessert! We couldn't decide and since we were hoping to put ourselves into a food coma, we picked two. Salted chocolate chip cookies and milk, and house made coffee ice cream served with Turkish coffee to spoon over it. Ummm, amazing. Our waitress told us that Katie, the owner, makes all of the ice cream, and it all has a little bit of liquor in it. I believe the coffee ice cream has brandy in it. Bravo, Katie. Also, Katie was so sweet and gave us some of her fav dessert wine after we had let her know it was our anniversary. It was a really nice end to our amazing meal. Alright, I think this is the longest review I have ever written. Final thoughts: this is a wonderful little restaurant that Warren is so lucky to have. (Have you all caught on yet that Warren has the best restaurants?!) A little on the pricier side but for locally-sourced, delicious food, it is worth it. The service was amazing ,the ambience is perfect, the food is simply beyond and so well balanced ,also drinks were were awesome ( get the daily shrub ) . There was a group of us and we had duck tacos , pierogis ,beet salad , hanger steak with fingerling potatoes withcilantro and pepito pesto and asparagus , orecchiette carbonara , and potato and bacon soup . Took my husband and little children to an outside table there last Saturday evening. The place filled up quickly after we arrived. The oysters were as clean and fresh as any I've ever tasted. The mussels were done nicely in a tasty broth. Lovely but big mussels, bigger than I'm used to. The entrees were really all enticing, but we went with a striper and the gnocchi. Both were very good but just a touch under seasoned, and the gnocchi were just a little heavy. I really loved the interior atmosphere, and will return to dine inside. Small noisy well decorated space with an artsy vibe, average over priced food served in bowls, my husband did not like his smoked pork chop which tasted just like salty ham, my chicken (poulet rouge) was browned, good (not juicy but not dry), but it was sitting in a sloppy bowl of watery unappetizing white starch called potato risotto and overpriced for what it was at $29 ...there are better choices at that price point in the East Bay. Service was excellent at start but deteriorated as larger tables were more demanding. Highlight was the homemade Irish brown soda bread. We would of had a second glass of wine if asked during meal. Water glasses too small and not filled/watched enough.Only milk&cookies or ice cream for dessert. Just had the most amazing meal at Bywater tonight with my fiancé!! The bread they start you off with is so good! Started our meal off with a dozen assorted oysters which were shucked well, sweet and briney, just the way we like them. French onion soup as an appetizer was one of the best I've had. It's one of my favorite dishes so I've had it a lot! I had the scallops for dinner which was just enough after all the other food we had had. Scallops were cooked perfectly and delicious. My fiancé had the hanger steak which was also cooked perfectly. He could not say enough about the potatoes that came with the steak. In fact, he referred to them as the best potatoes he has ever had! The restaurant was bustling, and our entrees did take a bit on the longer side. Our waitress brought over the house pickles to hold us over before our entrees, as well as the homemade ice cream dessert after. Neither was expected but both were greatly appreciated and delicious! The homemade ice cream was to die for! Some of the best ice cream I've ever had! Service was great, our waitress was attentive and pleasant. Our water glasses were consistently refilled throughout the meal. And almost like the cherry on top, 2 salted caramel taffy to end the meal when the check came. Me and my friend went to a nearby restaurant in hopes to sit at the bar; there was no room so we walked down the street and found empty seats at Bywater. We were a little taken back that this place seemed less occupied but decided it was a good idea to try it out. We cozied into the mellow surroundings, and the bartenders Andrew was so welcoming and knowledgeable about their cocktails. We sipped our drinks and enjoyed casual conversations while never feeling rushed by the staff. After my first delicious glass of Cabernet, the bartender asked if I'd like another or a "half" glass. No one offers this and I'm seldom able to finish two full glasses. I obliged. Plate after plate left the kitchen looking beautiful and the gentlemen at the service bar took such care in his preparation! I will be back for dinner, and I would definitely suggest this place to anyone looking for an excellent evening out! read more

Went here for my wife's bday. Our server,Janet, was terrific. There were maybe two tables seated when we got there, it was near full when we left. The service was personable and professional the whole time. She was knowledgeable about all menu items and wine list, 5 stars for her. The food was excellent!!
