I saw this bakery, go a little bit viral on Instagram and was visiting family in the area so I decided to give it a try and support a small business and let me tell you I was not disappointed. They had so many things to choose from it took me a moment to decide, but I ended up getting their crinkle cookies Which seemed to be popular because a lady came in after and ordered the rest of the ones that they had on the display. I also ended up ordering an Ube cheesecake and a Tres leches cake slices and everything was so delicious but by far my favorite was the Ube cheesecake. It was so unique and delicious 10 out of 10 would recommend can't wait to go back and try some of their other creations.

Found this place on Instagram, so we drove down from Pasadena...and it was well worth the drive. The store is super cute inside with a fun seating area. I wished we had arrived earlier to be able to enjoy more of the sold out offerings, but next time we'll arrive right when they open. We ordered a dozen crinkle cookies for a Mother's Day lunch - enjoying the sweet ube and the spiced thai tea versions. Both were great compliments to each other - more perfectly sweet and the other a bit more herbal. The chocolate chip cookie was perfect - nice crunchy edges and slightly gooey soft inside. The ube tres leches was a little disappointing as there wasn't any tres leches cake at the bottom, just crumbly graham crackers resting below exquisite ube mousse. It could have been mislabeled, but it was essentially just ube mousse with crumbly graham crackers for texture. The staff were friendly and the store is so fun!

We visited Butter Lab for the first time on 05/10/2026 in the late morning hours. The person helping us out at the counter, on this somewhat busy morning, kept the flow running nice and smooth (and he was friendly) So, we tried a few things during this visit. Two items for immediate consumption and then some cookies for later. We purchased a dozen of the regular size cookies, including both Ube and Thai Tea. Both of them were excellent, and I felt they were priced appropriately at a dozen for $18. The Thai Tea seriously tasted like you were truly drinking a thai tea. We also shared one large classic chocolate chip cookies (so yummy!) The only thing we didn't understand is that we shared a Ube Tres Leches. I am not sure what was going on. Don't get me wrong, what we ate was very good; however, it was 100% not Tres Leches. It was an Ube Cream with some graham cracker crumble underneath. So, my assumption is that they must have just given us the wrong item. I would love to try the Tres Leches again in the future. Please support his lovely local business. It was a real treat!

Basque Cheesecake, Banana Pudding, Bread pudding and apricot cookies

Okay this place is dangerously good! I popped in after work the other day and on my way home to pick up something for my sweet tooth. I walked out with apricot linzer cookies, banana pudding, bread pudding, and the basque cheesecake. Heaven. All of it. I had previously tried the tiramisu and the bread pudding as well as the tres leches, and can say that every dessert item has been exceptionally good. Nothing is overly sweet and portions are good enough to share or devour alone like I did. Will continue to pop in to try more goodies and satisfy my sweet tooth!

I was craving something sweet and figured since I live in Montebello, why not try a local bakery I haven't been to yet...The Yelp reviews were great, so I had to check it out for myself. I'm a big chocolate lover and originally came in for a chocolate brownie, but they were unfortunately out. They did have an ube brownie, and it seems like a lot of their desserts feature ube. I also noticed that they use organic and natural ingredients, which I really appreciated. The owner was incredibly kind and even let me sample the ube brownie. For me personally, it was a bit too sweet, but that really just comes down to preference. The chocolate chip cookies had just come out of the oven, so they were super fresh, maybe a little softer and more textured than I typically like, just a bit too raw for me, but still a good cookie overall. I'll admit, I can be a little picky when it comes to desserts. The standout for me was the café de olla latte, absolutely delicious because she made it with care, definitely something I would come back for. While the desserts didn't quite hit the mark for my taste, I still think this spot is worth trying. The owner is genuinely sweet, and the space itself is adorable, very warm, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated with a dessert-inspired theme. Overall, it just might be one of those places that others will love more than I did, but I'm glad I gave it a try...

This is my happy place. I love coming here after work and unwinding with my favorite drink the lady black. I love the fun vibes and the staff. Everything is made from scratch my favorites are the molasses cookie, the oatmeal sandwich, cookie, and the Thai tea crinkle cookie. don't sleep on their pies, the chicken pot is my fave. A favorite at my house is the banana cream pie pudding. don't sleep on the coffee cake, I took it to work and not a crumb was left.

I had been craving ube crinkle cookies and was searching Yelp for a bakery that sells them when I stumbled upon Butter Lab. Since it was Super Bowl Sunday, I called first to make sure they were open. It took about seven calls before someone finally picked up. I placed a phone order for six mini ube crinkle cookies, one large ube crinkle cookie, and a bag of ube blondie edges. When I arrived, there was only one person working, who looked like the baker and possibly the owner, so I understood why it took a while to answer the phone. Although I had reserved one large ube crinkle cookie, it wasn't included in my order, which ended up being fine because the mini cookies were a good size and felt like a better value at $1.50 each compared to $3.00 for the large one. The crinkle cookies and blondie edges were good. I wish the cookies were a bit more chewy rather than cake-like and less sweet, but they were still delicious and reasonably priced. The blondie edges were a great deal at $3 per bag, especially if you enjoy the edge pieces of brownies. I would return here for the brownie edges.

The food looks great and the staff are f friendly. The issues are with the food and drinks... I ordered a Strawberry Matche Latte and got my father a brown sugar latte. My Matcha was not even bloomed. It had huge clumps of matcha in it. There was virtually no sugar, any flavor had was in the strawberry, which tasted like nesquik starberry milk. My father said his coffee had no sugar in it. The first thing we had was the banana pudding, at it in shop while they made the drink. Insanely fresh but again, all the flavor came from the actual bananas, not the custard. It was almost as bland as baby food, which sucks cause the banana pudding looked amazing and it was the perfect texture. The crumb topping was amazing. The crinkle cookies are perfect and if I go back, it's for those alone. The ube tries leches? Creamy but again, hardly any sugar. This one might be ok as itll come down to preference on it. They've cheese cake? A Basque cheesecake? A lot less impressive, flavor falls flat but I've never really had a decent one to compare it to. The ube blondies? Amazing. I wanted more until I ate the second one... I'm not sure if its floss or hair but it was disgusting. I honestly wanted to be nice about the review and wanted to keep it quiet but their phone number on yelp, google and ever their website for taking catering ( 323 487 2558 ) does not actually connect. Says out of service ). Attached a photo as proof I called once from google. Second time was when i called from their catering page. I was hoping they cared cause the staff said let us know how it is, were always open for feedback or suggestions. If you like low sugar foods, then great. I'm diabetic so I shouldnt be eating a lot of sugar but I'm an ube or matcha fanatic and I want good food for that fix when I break my diet.

From outta town and google map'd for bakeries / sweet treats while in the area. I like ube tres leches, carrot cake cupcake and the Thai tea crinkle. Apricot jam cookie was good too. The corn and saffron crinkle had good flavor too but the sweetness level was quite high for me but I know friends that have that high of a sweet tooth that would love it. Would come back again to try again, thanks!

Came across this little gem today and I cannot stress how good these delights are. First the selections are right up my alley for cookies we had Vietnamese coffee, matcha, strawberry, chocolate brownie, pandan and oatmeal cranberry. We also had the ube brownie and ube cheesecake, with a cold brew. Turned around and grabbed a coffee cake along with everything else. Coffee cake was okay kind of underwhelming. Everything besides that was so good! Authentic look and flavors. Madds was super friendly and helpful in explaining all the flavors. Honestly hands down best cookies I've tasted.

I've been coming to this bakery for a bit now. My kids love the tres leches cakes. So much so that my daughter wanter her birthday cake to be tres leches from butter lab. This bakery is such a vibe! The cozy decor, side tables, and stools make it the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a sweet treat with a drink. I've tried almost all the cookie flavors, and my top picks are the classic chocolate chip, injeolmi crinkle, and strawberry crinkle--so good! The banana pudding is another favorite--I devoured one so fast I had to go back to buy more within minutes. The owner is the sweetest and totally nailed it when I told her what I needed for a client event. The cookies, tiramisus, banana cream pies, basque cheesecakes, and brownies were all a hit--first to disappear, and everyone was asking where they were from. I meant to take pictures, but we ate everything so fast that I completely forgot. That's how good it was! Highly recommend! read more

Happened to be in the neighborhood looking for a dessert to bring to dinner that night. Owner was welcoming and friendly. Answered some questions on the crinkle cookies and even offered to bake some on the spot (I had wanted the Thai Tea flavor which was still being made). They also have ice cream pints which I would've tried if I had brought a cooler bag to keep it from melting. Place is cozy and cutely decorated. Ended up with a box of black sesame, ube, matcha and Thai tea crinkle cookies. Glad I waited for the Thai tea to be made - my favorite out of all the flavors. Friendly, independent bakery. Earlier this year Butter Lab helped us with cupcakes for our son's birthday and we loved them! So when it was time to order a birthday cake for my wife's birthday we knew we would be going back to Butter Lab! Annie, the owner, was responsive, communicative and very easy to work with. The website even has a function where you can upload pictures of cake designs and features that you would like Butter Lab to incorporate into your own cake - pretty cool! The ube birthday cake was beautiful with plant decorations and it had just the right amount of sweetness. The cake was an absolute hit at the party! Upon trying the ube cake many of our friends asked where we got the cake and of course we told them, Butter Lab! We will be back to try the other cake flavors and their drinks as well. read more

Cannot overstate how happy I am that this bakery opened in Montebello. Their Ube delicacies here are amazing and the owner is a great person who's willing to explain what she has to offer. I have tried all the best spots in LA offering Ube desserts and this place has blown me away every time. From the crinkles to the blondes , this is a must try in Los Angeles if you're a fan of Ube or baked goods in general. Reached out to ButterLab Monday morning for a last minute birthday cake, Annie was amazing she was able to accommodate our needs and went above and beyond in such a short notice. We ended up ordering a tres leches cake with fresh fruit that was enough to feed 8 people. The cake tasted amazing at such unbeatable prize. Wow.... The Ube cookies are stellar! Staff were friendly and patient with my many questions about the menu haha. I really love the interior decorations and the colors definitely reflect the taste and feel of the baked goodies that have won my heart over. Don't live very close to Montebello so unfortunately I won't be able to frequent, but any time I have an excuse to be in the area this is where I'll be headed for a tasty treat read more

Went here to try their crinkle cookies! Sadly they didn't have the black sesame flavor available, but luckily they had others that were cooling from being out of the oven. We tried the corn (& saffron?), pandan coconut, chocolate, Thai tea, and ube flavors. My favorite was the ube and Thai tea. The texture was great and I liked the powdered sugar coating on top! What a delight to have this bakery in my hometown! The mixed berries tres leches had just the right amount of sweetness and the berries were a perfect touch. The ube brownies and cookies were ubelicious!! Can't get enough of that ube taste. We've also tried the pandan, matcha and thai tea cookies. They each have a balanced taste of the cookie flavor and sweetness and super fresh. Today I had the iced cafe de olla latte and was pleasantly surprised with a great tasting flavorful drink. We also had the banana walnut little cake and it was fresh, moist with a great banana flavor and lots of walnuts. I wish this bakery great success. Maybe they'll start offering an exquisite quiche or breakfast item on the weekends. I can't wait to have an excuse to order a large cake!! They should add some table and chairs:) read more

I ordered an anniversary cake at the last minute and Annie (hoping I spelled that right) was so accommodating. She extended hours for pickup to make it possible, and the cake tasted amazing! The best pastries and desserts. I order from Butterlab all the time. Annie is exceptional and does a fantastic job, the crinkle cookies are a staple and must have! One day, I saw the sign up and was curious about this new place in Montebello. So today, I decided to go and check it out. The owner is so sweet! The worker was kind and patient in answering our questions about the cookies. They both took the time to speak with us about the bakery which is extremely kind! Amazing customer service, they really made me feel connected with their love for the community. Onto the pastries! The ube cookies are fire . it's sweet, moist and most importantly delicious. They also happen to sell drinks so my boyfriend and I tried their cafe de olla and matcha and here's the verdict. Their cafe de olla is FIRE!!! it's really that good! The matcha is good as well but as a coffee lover, I will definitely go back to buy the cafe de olla. My only regret is that I should've bought more pastries to share with my family at home. The entrance is a bit awkward in that it's not facing (exterior-facing) the parking lot so you need to walk over to the sidewalk to enter off of Montebello Blvd. The parking spaces closest to the entrance was mostly full, but the shop itself was empty, we were the only customers on a hot, late Sunday afternoon. Upon entering, I had to admire their aesthetic minimalist decor with pops of mint green from the upholstered chairs. It speaks of comfort for relaxing or getting some work done; not sure if there's outlets nearby since I didn't hang out. A long counter-height communal table sits in the middle of the room with a large wall screen in the back flashing highlights of their drinks. There's artful display "Art in a Cup" on the pathway near the restroom that speak of their teas... every cup is a fresh creation, inspired by seasonal harvest, & brought to life through constant evolution of tea-brewing techniques (rough translation of the Chinese text). Hmmm... that (tea brewing) would be driven by new technology/equipment. Not sure if a boba shop would invest in that. After perusing the menu, I picked the Mango Grapefruit Boom Tea & H wanted the Grape Boom Tea. Service was friendly, & our drinks were made quick. I'm assuming my signature tea is one of their most popular drinks since it was the 1st on the list. It's a couple of months past mango season so the tropical mango flavor & sweetness is muted. The grapefruit faired slightly better. The boom tea was nicely slushed with no discernible ice chunks & just enough crystal boba until the very last sip. The drink was refreshing & quench my thirst, but didn't leave a favorable impression. I'll assume that this signature tea would be best in the summer of mango season. When I received my order, I immediately noticed how excessive the amount of ice was in the first cup. I initially gave the employees the benefit of the doubt, but after examining the second cup, which was specifically ordered with light ice, I noticed practically the exact same amount of ice in both drinks. What makes this particularly frustrating is that the second cup was clearly labeled "Easy Ice," yet the employees still managed to fill it with an excessive amount of ice. At that point, it genuinely felt like my request was being deliberately ignored. Whether this was intentional or simply careless preparation, the result was unacceptable. It gives the impression that employees are more interested in rushing orders out than actually respecting what customers are paying for. Customers should not have to inspect and compare their drinks just to verify that basic instructions were followed. I'm paying for coffee, not an oversized cup of ice with a small portion of the actual beverage. I understand that mistakes happen, especially in a busy establishment. However, there's a difference between an honest mistake and what appears to be a complete disregard for a clearly stated customer preference. I expect better attention to detail, accountability, and professionalism from employees preparing orders. If a customer specifically requests light ice, that request should be honored. Extremely disappointing experience, and frankly, it makes me question whether I can trust this establishment to prepare even a basic order correctly.

Vanessa has been our baker for our kid's 100 day party 7 years ago (with the same cake lol). This is a European style bakery but never feels heavy (unless you cut yourself a generous slice). She uses quality ingredients. I've gotten carrot cake recently for my dad's birthday. My sister got a Chantilly berry for a friend's birthday cake which was really good. Stopped by Brioche Pastries after calling ahead to get an idea of what they had available. They…read moreweren't able to go over the menu on the phone and said I would need to come in to see what was available. They also mentioned that their display case was broken, so everything was being kept in the back, which made it a little difficult to know what the options were before getting there. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how HOT it was. There didn't seem to be any AC, and it was honestly uncomfortable. For a bakery with cakes and pastries, I was also a little surprised and wondering how everything stays fresh in that kind of heat. I ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie, a slice of Funfetti cake, and a slice of Grandma's Chocolate Cake. The Funfetti was definitely the standout -- super moist and really good. The chocolate cake was fine, but nothing particularly memorable. I haven't tried the cookie yet, so TBD on that one. Overall, the Funfetti was good, but the experience itself could use some improvement, especially with the lack of AC and not being able to easily see or understand what was available.

Everyone that had a slice of the cake was also very shocked at how good it tasted. The cream is light, the mango portions are extremely generous, and the sponge cake in the middle is the perfect size. It was all very well balanced. I genuinely felt the love that went into this cake. The facility does also bake with almonds and walnuts. For anyone with peanut allergies, contaminants is not something to worry about. Overall, I'd love to try other items the bakery offers!
