Stopped by Brioche Pastries after calling ahead to get an idea of what they had available. They weren't able to go over the menu on the phone and said I would need to come in to see what was available. They also mentioned that their display case was broken, so everything was being kept in the back, which made it a little difficult to know what the options were before getting there. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how HOT it was. There didn't seem to be any AC, and it was honestly uncomfortable. For a bakery with cakes and pastries, I was also a little surprised and wondering how everything stays fresh in that kind of heat. I ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie, a slice of Funfetti cake, and a slice of Grandma's Chocolate Cake. The Funfetti was definitely the standout -- super moist and really good. The chocolate cake was fine, but nothing particularly memorable. I haven't tried the cookie yet, so TBD on that one. Overall, the Funfetti was good, but the experience itself could use some improvement, especially with the lack of AC and not being able to easily see or understand what was available. read more

Very nice, small business owning bakery in Montebello. They have a good selection of cakes and cupcakes. I have only had a few of their items and even though I plan to go back, I can only comment on what I had. The carrot cake was pretty good as was the red velvet cupcake. However, I did get a vanilla cupcake and the frosting was a bit hard, in fact not very edible. So I'd have to skip that one next time. The woman who runs the place is very friendly, super nice and helpful. I always like to help out small "mom and pop" businesses, so I plan to go back to try some of their other choices. read more

I read the reviews and when I placed my order, saw that the carrot cake was the top seller so I was sold. I was not a fan of carrot cake until I had the one from Brioche! We grabbed a few of their cakes to try and they were pretty good. I can't say much of their custom order whole cakes, I haven't tried them. Berry Chantilly- berry chiffon cake, really good. My favorite out of all the things we grabbed. Cake was spongy and moist. Layer between had cream mixed with different berries. Tres Leche- perfectly moist but not too wet. Wasn't too sweet either! Tiramisu- strong coffee, moist but not too wet as well. Bread Pudding- wasn't the texture I prefer, not my favorite. Really dense and not much flavor. read more

Vanessa, the owner was baking for a big order so she suggested I try their most popular cookie - chocolate chip. It was delicious!!!! Made with real butter and real chips. Totally yummy. Almost want to not write a review so I can keep this bakery to myself. Definitely a hidden treasure located in Montebello. I've been by several times, and I have always left feeling very happy with the dessert items I've been able to purchase. I've had Brioche Pastries on my radar for awhile and when my friend and I were actually in the area, I decided to stop by to see if they had any baked goods to alleviate my sweet tooth. They're a small mom-and-pop shop; I think I discovered them during the pandemic, so it's great to see them still thriving! One of my favorite items from here is the chocolate chip cookies. They're humongous! And if you get them fresh out of the oven, even better. Love that the outside is crunchy but the inside is gooey and super soft! I've also tried their raspberry Linzer cookie, which I also really enjoyed. Not too sweet, just the right amount of tanginess. As for the cakes, I've tried both the tiramisu and the raspberry chocolate cake. Surprisingly, my friend and I were both wowed by the raspberry cake. It wasn't heavy at all and didn't taste overly chocolate-y. There was a delicate balance between the chocolate and the raspberry that made me want to keep eating more. The tiramisu was also a delight. Not too sweet, could taste a slight bit of rum - would order these cake slices again. I think I've gotten cupcakes and macarons from here before, too. And while they weren't super memorable, they were always tasty. Workers are super friendly and helpful. The bakery is located on Whittier Blvd and comes up fast if you're not looking out for it. Usually do street parking since I pop in and leave within a few minutes. tl;dr - must visit for sweet tooths! I pretty much loved everything that I've tried from Brioche. read more

I'm SO glad I live by a bakery that makes the most tasty cakes!! I've had german chocolate, grandma's chocolate, red velvet, tiramisu, chantilly berry, the vanilla one with chocolate icing on top that I cant remember the name of , and the top tierr fruit tarts. They're all so dang delicious- I always get excited on the way to Brioche, and am in an even better mood while eating their pastries. Came here to pick up a cheesecake since it was the only bakery in the area that served cheesecake other than the generic grocery stores. Very small family owned shop. There is no parking lot but lots of street parking. Just be aware of the traffic during school hours. Friendly service. Their display didn't look like they had anything available until we approached the counter and asked if they had cheesecake and the owner was able to locate some in their freezer. They also sold a few cafe lattes and other drinks. While waiting, the owner kindly gave us some free chocolate chip cookies since they were customers at my clinic and was getting their fur baby fixed. Cheesecake was good. My family and I have been going to Amy's Pastry for YEARS and we just got over it. Their quality of cakes aren't as good as Brioche. Actually, Brioche isn't good, it's excellent! FYI Brioche cake slices are around $4.50. Kinda pricey but it's a big slice! You can actually share it. 8 inch cakes are $38 and 10 inch cakes are $48. They said order 2 days in advance but the earlier the better. These cakes are totally worth paying for! Everything is fresh and made in house. I believe this place is under new ownership. But that's beside the point. We've tried most of their cakes by the slice, holiday cookies and vanilla and chocolate cupcakes and tarts! We have not been disappointed. Everything tastes fresh, with distinctive unique tastes for their tarts. I especially love that they sell cakes by the slice.
