As a loyal customer of April's Cakes (24 years) , I am disappointed in the service I received today. I was rudely advised that I couldn't talk to the owner of the shop because she is extremely busy on Saturdays and will not talk to anyone. I completely understand her being busy. My issue is the way the employee verbally used her words, she could have been more polite. I literally drove from K- town to Montebello exclusively to see if I could place an order for a custom cake. I have referred her cakes to others for years , unfortunately due to the lack of customer service support at her shop, I will not be back. It is very important for any business to make the customer feel welcomed, sadly I experienced the complete opposite. I left feeling disappointed. read more

I first had April's cakes at a friend's wedding last year. It was a white cake with orange icing filling. It had real orange bits and I had never had that flavor profile before as a cake. It was so good, I asked my friend where she ordered her cake. I had actually been there another time after because I wanted to sample the different flavors they had. It's been a while but the ones I remember I liked were pina colada, orange and choco/mocha. I special ordered a Pokémon cake for my nephew's birthday this year. I picked out a style on Pinterest and April's Cakes was able to replicate it. I had to pick it up the day before the event and they were able to make adjustments to the icing so that it would not lose color or flavor. Everyone enjoyed it. I'm very sorry but it looks like she does lovely and nice designed cakes, but 145 dollars for a 6 inch custom cake I tried not to laugh when she told me. I went to 8 other custom bakery's with price ranged of 45 to max of 65 being the most expensive. This review is not for taste of cake but honestly the pricing I could imagine the price of any other cake. read more

I've been coming here for over 25+ plus years and I have never experienced such terrible customer service. I placed an order for a cake and went to pick it up and the lady there was very rude. As I got the cake it didn't even have a cover so I had to take it like this. I even asked the lady working there for a cover and she said in a very rude manner that "we don't do covers here". Keep in mind this cake was a promise to a family member of mine and I had to take this cake for a long car ride worried it won't spill or something falling on it.. The cakes are a good size, flavors are different from other bakeries. I don't like that you can't pre order small cakes. You have to call or show up to see if they have any cakes available for the day. There was an older lady helping at the front desk which at times is rude. I recently purchased my son's 1st birthday cake from here and was surprised that most of the cake was whipped cream inside. Very thin layers of cake it was mostly all whipped cream. I will not be purchasing from them again. Customer service was bad too . I kept having to reach out through Instagram, because their phone line was always busy or no answer. Aprils cakes has always been the go to for our family events and gatherings. It was their cakes we used for my 15th birthday back in 2002, the cakes my brother used at his wedding 2004, my parents 60th birthday cakes during the pandemic and what will be our families cakes for time to come. I'm truly grateful for the wonderful work April's Cakes has done for my last two cake orders. I was in a pickle the first week back to school in January and needed to order a cake for my school librarian but didn't realize the bakery was closed for a week. Yet, they were able to work with me and accommodate a beautiful Elvis cake for a 60th birthday surprise for our wonderful librarian. She was completely surprised and the delicious cake was a huge hit with all of our school staff. My second cake was also an adorable orange unicorn cake for my Goddaughter's 3rd Birthday. They asked to order a tres leches cake and she rudely answered saying "no you can only order the regular cakes, no tres leches cakes.". So they went outside and called me to ask what flavor I would like instead of the tres leches. Less than a minute later they went in and asked for the Guava cake which she just mentioned she could make before the call. She then told my parents that she changed her mind and won't make a cake for them. She is insanely rude and has no grounds to refuse service to them. Have been coming here for years, and each time we go back can honestly say cakes keep getting better and better. This last experience was a doozy, it was my grandmas bday and it just happened to land on a Monday. I can only speak about how delicious the individual slices are, as I have never order an entire cake. I also want to say that at every single visit I received friendly service. I first discovered this bakery years ago with my aunt, who mentioned it was in the area where we were shopping for party supplies. I bought a few slices of cake to sample the flavors. I tried the chocolate (with walnuts), the pina colada, and the orange cream cake. I LOVE the chocolate and the pina colada. The cake is moist, and the whipped cream frosting is just the right amount of sweet. My aunt and her daughters go nuts for the orange cream flavor. Whenever I'm in the area, or know someone who is, I always stop by for a slice to go. Today I felt compelled to write a review because I just finished my free sample of the pumpkin spice flavor and i believe this should replace pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.
