I first had April's cakes at a friend's wedding last year. It was a white cake with orange icing filling. It had real orange bits and I had never had that flavor profile before as a cake. It was so good, I asked my friend where she ordered her cake. I had actually been there another time after because I wanted to sample the different flavors they had. It's been a while but the ones I remember I liked were pina colada, orange and choco/mocha. I special ordered a Pokémon cake for my nephew's birthday this year. I picked out a style on Pinterest and April's Cakes was able to replicate it. I had to pick it up the day before the event and they were able to make adjustments to the icing so that it would not lose color or flavor. Everyone enjoyed it. A bit of a drive for me to get there, but I think it was worth it. read more

I'm very sorry but it looks like she does lovely and nice designed cakes, but 145 dollars for a 6 inch custom cake I tried not to laugh when she told me. I went to 8 other custom bakery's with price ranged of 45 to max of 65 being the most expensive. This review is not for taste of cake but honestly the pricing I could imagine the price of any other cake. read more

I've been coming here for over 25+ plus years and I have never experienced such terrible customer service. I placed an order for a cake and went to pick it up and the lady there was very rude. As I got the cake it didn't even have a cover so I had to take it like this. I even asked the lady working there for a cover and she said in a very rude manner that "we don't do covers here". Keep in mind this cake was a promise to a family member of mine and I had to take this cake for a long car ride worried it won't spill or something falling on it.. I left this place feeling very disappointed and I will be planning on never coming back again. read more

Thank you to aprils cakes for knocking it out of the park yet again!!! We have used aprils cakes prior and she never disappoints! This cake was for my sons graduation and April came thru yet again on short notice! The cake was beautiful and also very delicious. This cake Was a chocolate raspberry moose with butter cream and it was awesome! They have the best tasting cakes I ever tasted. I gave them a 4 because the wording on my cake looked like a amateur did it. I should have received a discount for this $42. cake that serves 8. I was disappointed when I opened the top of the box. The first letter was too far from the rest of the word. Other than that I'm still getting my cakes from them. The cakes are a good size, flavors are different from other bakeries. I don't like that you can't pre order small cakes. You have to call or show up to see if they have any cakes available for the day. There was an older lady helping at the front desk which at times is rude. It's a small place street parking only. read more

I recently purchased my son's 1st birthday cake from here and was surprised that most of the cake was whipped cream inside. Very thin layers of cake it was mostly all whipped cream. I will not be purchasing from them again. Customer service was bad too . I kept having to reach out through Instagram, because their phone line was always busy or no answer. In many years of purchasing cakes from here I have always had a good experience but this time I was terribly disappointed. Paying $60 for this is not even close to the regular cakes to what they sell. I rather should have went in for a regular cake then this. This is not the work that April's cakes usually does. Aprils cakes has always been the go to for our family events and gatherings. It was their cakes we used for my 15th birthday back in 2002, the cakes my brother used at his wedding 2004, my parents 60th birthday cakes during the pandemic and what will be our families cakes for time to come. The reason we keep coming back is because the flavors and the consistency is so rich and flavorful. Our families go to has always been the guava cake or the pineapple cake. First off... I am totally grateful for the last minute selection. This is the 2nd year APRIL'S CAKES has cime through. Not only did I walk out with a last minute cake, they even printed a photo and made a beautiful creation. The cake was GUAVA which was AMAZINGLY MOIST and TASTY. We planned a birthday party for my mom at my aunt's home in Montebello so I hoped to find a bakery in the area. I turned to Yelp and saw that April's Cakes was nearby and it had great reviews. I went in to ask about getting a cake. We discussed what I was looking for, flavors and style and they said "something elegant". I'm truly grateful for the wonderful work April's Cakes has done for my last two cake orders. I was in a pickle the first week back to school in January and needed to order a cake for my school librarian but didn't realize the bakery was closed for a week. Yet, they were able to work with me and accommodate a beautiful Elvis cake for a 60th birthday surprise for our wonderful librarian. She was completely surprised and the delicious cake was a huge hit with all of our school staff. My second cake was also an adorable orange unicorn cake for my Goddaughter's 3rd Birthday. Not only was the baby excited about her cake, she couldn't keep her fingers out of it! Honestly, this is why I make it a point to always order my cakes here. The new person in charge with blonde hair is extremely rude. She refused service to my father and mother for my Graduation cake. They asked to order a tres leches cake and she rudely answered saying "no you can only order the regular cakes, no tres leches cakes.". So they went outside and called me to ask what flavor I would like instead of the tres leches. Less than a minute later they went in and asked for the Guava cake which she just mentioned she could make before the call. She then told my parents that she changed her mind and won't make a cake for them. She is insanely rude and has no grounds to refuse service to them. She profiles people and judges them based on what they wear and is only helpful toward people she things have a lot of money. Avoid this place AT ALL COST! read more

Have been coming here for years, and each time we go back can honestly say cakes keep getting better and better. This last experience was a doozy, it was my grandmas bday and it just happened to land on a Monday. (April's cakes is close on mondays) I got on their Facebook account and messaged them, was promptly answered and within a few hours my cake was done along with saving my grannies bday celebration!!!!! I can only speak about how delicious the individual slices are, as I have never order an entire cake. I also want to say that at every single visit I received friendly service. I first discovered this bakery years ago with my aunt, who mentioned it was in the area where we were shopping for party supplies. I bought a few slices of cake to sample the flavors. I tried the chocolate (with walnuts), the pina colada, and the orange cream cake. I LOVE the chocolate and the pina colada. The cake is moist, and the whipped cream frosting is just the right amount of sweet. My aunt and her daughters go nuts for the orange cream flavor. Whenever I'm in the area, or know someone who is, I always stop by for a slice to go. Today I felt compelled to write a review because I just finished my free sample of the pumpkin spice flavor and i believe this should replace pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. I only hope it's still available at that time! At least I still have a slice of pina colada to look forward to eating later. read more

My sons 3rd birthday. Everyone loved the cake and how it tasted. I was so surprised how good the edible image came out. Seeing is they said it would bleed through the colors. But no! It looked great. I couldn't have been happier. My son loved it. But he isn't too fond of strawberries so next time I'll just get him banana only lol. Other than that I loved it. Thank you read more

Owner April Palomino previously owned a bakery in Mexico City. The recipes are passed on from her mother and Editor of Mexican Magazine "KENA". She moved to the US to chase her dreams of Opening her Bakery and offering quality Pastries from her native country. April Palomino is a Single Mother who conquered her goals by opening her first Location in 1989. Before that she established a long client list by making cakes from home. In 2001 April's Cakes in Huntington Park was Opened. After a decade the cakes remain with the same high quality. Throughout the year's cost of eggs, milk, flour has gone up. April would rather raise the prices than lower the quality of our products. Nothing is Pre-Made or comes from a plastic Container. We also cater to the Hindu community by making "egg less cakes" by request. And the owner being Diabetic herself supervises so our cakes are not too sweet.

When I called to place the order, I was directed to submit it online. I completed the online order and received a text confirmation stating that I would receive a response within two days. After two days passed with no response, I called to follow up and was told that someone would be contacting me regarding my order. Another two days passed without any communication, so I called again to check on the status. At that point, I was informed that my order had never actually been placed because a deposit was required. However, I was never informed of any deposit requirement during the ordering process or in any of the communications I received. Despite explaining the circumstances, no effort was made to find a solution. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes can happen. However, I also believe in doing everything possible to make things right for customers when issues arise. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. Due to the lack of communication, misinformation, and poor customer service, I will not be ordering from this bakery again and cannot recommend it to others.

I will have to give April's cakes a 3 star simply because they didn't follow directions. I had provided a professionally edited, hi resolution picture to use for my kid's birthday cake and when I got the cake they didn't use the picture I gave them. I did not get a reason why my picture wasn't used nor did staff respond and the owner was arrogant and rude. Beware and be persistent and follow up to make sure you get what you ordered and not what they want to give you. We've done business with them for the past 17yrs and they remain as delicious as back then. I definitely recommend, they do not do fondant cakes but honestly who even likes to eat that stuff. Plus the quality and taste make it all worth it AND their whip is actually not the normal kind of whip, it's exceptionally delicious. Just give them a chance and you'll end up always coming back. I paid $40 for a smash cake, where as Amy's Pastry charges $16 but they add fees for every little thing such as fruit, colored frosting, etc. Plus, they are limited on cake flavors & fillings. Blue Cake House is a small business and I like to support smaller businesses. Their cakes taste amazing and will not disappoint. I will definitely be using Blue Cake House for my future orders!
