We visited Butter Lab for the first time on 05/10/2026 in the late morning hours. The person helping us out at the counter, on this somewhat busy morning, kept the flow running nice and smooth (and he was friendly) So, we tried a few things during this visit. Two items for immediate consumption and then some cookies for later. We purchased a dozen of the regular size cookies, including both Ube and Thai Tea. Both of them were excellent, and I felt they were priced appropriately at a dozen for $18. The Thai Tea seriously tasted like you were truly drinking a thai tea. We also shared one large classic chocolate chip cookies (so yummy!) The only thing we didn't understand is that we shared a Ube Tres Leches. I am not sure what was going on. Don't get me wrong, what we ate was very good; however, it was 100% not Tres Leches. It was an Ube Cream with some graham cracker crumble underneath. So, my assumption is that they must have just given us the wrong item. I would love to try the Tres Leches again in the future. Please support his lovely local business. I've always seen businesses come and go in that plaza due to the lack of foot traffic and when I saw a IG post about this place I knew I should come and support a local shop. This place is really great! I love that they have unique flavors that most bakeries don't have like ube and pandan! The banana pudding is so good! Not too sweet! I came in just for that but I saw that they had a ube blondie and that was amazing too! Montebello isn't known for many things but these local shops really do bring the community together! Delicious and unique dessert treats. I tried the following : Pandan-coconut crinkle cookies - very good not too sweet, reminded me of Mexican wedding cookies. I barely tasted any coconut. When I first ordered I thought they were matcha flavor because of the color lol They were yummy ! Ube coconut crinkle cookies - loved these ! I'm a sucker for anything ube. Not overly sweet and amazing flavor and texture ! Basque cheesecake - it's very different from the type of cheesecake I'm used to (from Cheesecake Factory) this cheesecake has no crust, it's very creamy and was very delicious. I highly recommend. I was craving something sweet and figured since I live in Montebello, why not try a local bakery I haven't been to yet...The Yelp reviews were great, so I had to check it out for myself. I'm a big chocolate lover and originally came in for a chocolate brownie, but they were unfortunately out. They did have an ube brownie, and it seems like a lot of their desserts feature ube. I also noticed that they use organic and natural ingredients, which I really appreciated. The owner was incredibly kind and even let me sample the ube brownie. For me personally, it was a bit too sweet, but that really just comes down to preference. The chocolate chip cookies had just come out of the oven, so they were super fresh, maybe a little softer and more textured than I typically like, just a bit too raw for me, but still a good cookie overall. I'll admit, I can be a little picky when it comes to desserts. The standout for me was the café de olla latte, absolutely delicious because she made it with care, definitely something I would come back for. While the desserts didn't quite hit the mark for my taste, I still think this spot is worth trying. The owner is genuinely sweet, and the space itself is adorable, very warm, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated with a dessert-inspired theme. Okay this place is dangerously good! I popped in after work the other day and on my way home to pick up something for my sweet tooth. I walked out with apricot linzer cookies, banana pudding, bread pudding, and the basque cheesecake. Heaven. All of it. I had previously tried the tiramisu and the bread pudding as well as the tres leches, and can say that every dessert item has been exceptionally good. I had been craving ube crinkle cookies and was searching Yelp for a bakery that sells them when I stumbled upon Butter Lab. Since it was Super Bowl Sunday, I called first to make sure they were open. It took about seven calls before someone finally picked up. I placed a phone order for six mini ube crinkle cookies, one large ube crinkle cookie, and a bag of ube blondie edges. When I arrived, there was only one person working, who looked like the baker and possibly the owner, so I understood why it took a while to answer the phone. Although I had reserved one large ube crinkle cookie, it wasn't included in my order, which ended up being fine because the mini cookies were a good size and felt like a better value at $1.50 each compared to $3.00 for the large one. The crinkle cookies and blondie edges were good. I wish the cookies were a bit more chewy rather than cake-like and less sweet, but they were still delicious and reasonably priced. The blondie edges were a great deal at $3 per bag, especially if you enjoy the edge pieces of brownies. I would return here for the brownie edges. read more

I noticed this place near me and thought I would try it. We walked in on Valentine's Day for a quick treat and picked up a piece of vanilla basque cheesecake and a corn crinkle cookie. It was so cute and our baked goods were delicious! The cheesecake had such a deep vanilla flavor and was super creamy. The cookie was perfectly sweet and scrumptious. I think it was $8 for the cheesecake and $1.50 for the cookie. The prices were unbelievable for the quality! Sometime in Dec. Was looking for a place that had pecan something and it was kind of on the way home from work. Some things I loved about this bakery: Great customer service and allergen knowledge, and care when it comes to cross contact. Thank you! Makes me feel so much more comfortable getting treats for my daughter. The flavors were unique, and not too sweet. They were on the bitter side. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. Like yhe ube brownie-- you can absolutely taste the ube. The regular brownie had a dark chocolate taste. Maybe a kick of espresso? The basque cheesecake had a delicious burnt exterior that broke up the monotony of the cream cheese filling, making it more enjoyable for my mouth. As for the chocolate mousse it was my least favorite. The cookie crumbles didn't seem especially thought out, and reminded me of a dump cake. The mousse was still good. read more

I've seen this place appear in my searches and finally decided to check it out. It's located along W Beverly Blvd in a small strip of businesses. It's neighbor is the Organica Juice Bar. The space is small, with large counters displaying a variety of desserts. Purple painted walls with minimal wall decorations, and two wall side tables on the left with single chairs. So not much in the room for sitting lots of people, which is fine. The menu is quite simple lattes and desserts, with also bottled juice and water. My bf and I decided to try the Café de Olla for the lattes. It was so good! Everything listed in the description you could taste. The anise in particular was forefront but not overpowering, hints of that cinnamon and orange zest, and sweetened with piloncillo (not the same as brown sugar). It was a tad sweet for me but not a deal breaker. My sweet tooth is terrible, so to see all their desserts on display made me easily tempted. They have brownie edges, which they did not have at the time and learned that they sell out quickly as they only have them when they make the batch for the week. Definitely gonna have to go when they have them in stock. This time we got a basque cheesecake slice and their banana pudding. The cheesecake was delicious, creamy and tangy, but just the right amount of sweet. The "burnt" top gave a nice toasted note with every bite. The banana pudding was delicious as well. The cups are super stuffed with a crumble topping, the vanilla custard and large chunks of banana. It was layered like a parfait with lots custard and banana throughout. The guy helping us was so friendly gave us plenty of time to make a decision and answer questions. Definitely give this a try. read more

This was an interesting place to visit. From the street, I had no idea it was a bakery that specifically baked cookies, brownies, cakes and served drinks. I looked at their bare glass showcase and there were no trays other than a couple of brownies and ube brownie. I was about to step out. Thinking they sold out. No clue. Austin, the assistant baker was kind enough to help. There was no cookies on display. I had no clue the size of the cookies. He said he would get them from the back. I waited for 5 min, so I left and said I will be back. Overall, Austin was the nicest employee. I thought he was the owner but wasn't. Annie is the owner. She should give him more credit instead of talking down about him. I returned. Saw the cookies. He told me the Ube cookies were their popular cookies. I ordered 11 Ube cookies and 1 Ube brownie. I was hoping to get the 1 extra cookie for free per the owner if I had bought 12 cookies. I didn't. Short by 1 but instead bought a Ube brownie. It wasn't honored. Its okay. The owner was a bit standoff-ish. She didn't want to make eye contact. Plus she went to the back and starts laughing after talking to me. Kind of strange, imo. The taste of the Ube cookie was not good. I did not taste the Ube. Sorry. Although it was purple like it should. Now as far as for the Ube brownie, I had high hopes from all the 5 star reviews, it must be good. Well, no Ube flavor, either. I asked about the cakes if they had any pictures to review because I'm a visual person. Owner said, no. Just tell her what you want, then she will make it. I left it alone at that. The atmosphere was unique. One corner has nothing but plants, but they do not sell plants. They accept cash but they have no change for a $20 bill??? The total was $14. They did not have $6 in their drawer, so I had to make up for the difference? I'm thinking to myself, they couldn't go next door to other businesses to get change? Must bring exact change or make up the remaining difference by buying more goods. Stay away from this place. It's not worth it. There are better bakeries with better customer service and baked goods for less. I do not know why, Annie the owner, need to lie on her reply. Smh. read more

I was so pleased with my birthday cakes and cookies from Butter Lab! Annie, the owner, was so accommodating and sweet. She worked with me to find the best options as far as size of cakes and pricing. I was indecisive and changed the cake flavor, but she was understanding and even made me a filling she hadn't made before. I asked for an espresso mousse filling with dulce de leche for the black chocolate cake and it was to die for! The cake was moist, very chocolatey, and the espresso paired beautifully with it. It was SO delicious! I also ordered a Citrus Dream sheet cake and added fresh raspberries along with the yuzu curd. It was exceptional! The cake was so flavorful and even had lemon zest for an enhanced citrus flavor. In addition to the cakes, I ordered some strawberry, Ube and Pandan coconut crinkle cookies. They were so moist and delicious! My favorite were the Pandan coconut cookies. I'm looking forward to ordering from Butter Lab in the future to try more unique, exquisite cakes and other desserts! Annie (owner) is too cool. Found this gem while at work craving pandan anything! I've tried pretty much all her crinkle cookies and the pandan, ube, thai tea are my favorite. A light crispy edge exterior with extremely soft dense interior (I believe she uses real yams!). They're not overly sweet and the pandan, ube, thai tea flavor comes through so well (not artificial at all). I've also had the ube cheesecake, which is light in texture and so good! I've also had the ube brownie (same light crispy exterior and super soft dense interior, not overly sweet). I've also had.....jk jk - I've obviously been here too many times. Called on a Thursday looking for a cake on a Friday for my wife's birthday, and annie was not only super friendly, but also very helpful and made it happen. My wife is a big fan of Ube and on short notice and made her one of the best Ube cakes we've ever had. I also tried the tres leches and an assortment of the crinkle cookies which were also amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anybody looking for an awesome cake and a great experience and CUSTOMER SERVICE thats second to none.
