Got a matcha croissant and a bubble milk tea at Sunmerry Bakery in Monterey Park. They have a nice selection of pastries and breads available, and a seating area to enjoy food and drinks. Matcha croissant was flaky and tasty, and the milk tea was good, although the cup was a bit flimsy and the sides of the cup squeezed in a bit as I was holding it, causing a minor milk tea spill. Be careful when holding your drink, so you don't end up spilling it like I did!
A Taiwanese import founded in 1986 with 36 shops worldwide, I had often overlooked this shop while walking to AMC. My wife and I needed a caffeine boost before our movie. We ordered an iced large boba milk tea ($6.25) and large vietnamese coffee ($6.00). It was a one-person operation, with the staff member handling orders, the register, and making drinks. It was slow, as we waited for others to purchase pastries, and some insisted on paying cash with exact change. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're in a hurry, as they can be very slow. The service was friendly and helpful, but it was slow because one person was doing everything. My wife couldn't finish her drink because she felt it was too sweet, and my milk tea was also quite sweet, even though I enjoy sweet drinks. We wouldn't rush to return, and we wouldn't order drinks here again. We might try a pastry, but I don't think we'll be back anytime soon.
I haven't been here in like 8yrs but I remember it was called honey lemon! However we decide to get us a drink so I ordered a Taro drink it was iced blended. I was so disappointed. It had no flavor and I knew it would not taste good just by looking at the color :( but I had to give it a chance but it was just not it. The service was ok the place felt humid like their ac was now working.

There is an underground parking structure for your convenience!! Unfortunately, like every Sunmerry after 5 p.m., the best goodies had already been taken by other pastry fans, so my dreams of a matcha mochi donut died on the spot. But the mango mochi donut was just as yummy!! The rest of the pastries were fresh, delish, and absolutely enabling my dessert weekness!! The best part about this bakery is that their pastries are not too sweet, just delicious!!!
Nice location inside a plaza. I was starving so I got a chicken cheese bread. While the prices are cheap the chicken cheese bread was inedible. I've tried their other bread before and I would just stick to the sweet stuff. I took one bite of my chicken cheese bread and I knew it wasn't fresh. While I know the bakery prides themselves in fresh bread I'm not sure this one has. The bread itself had a rancid chicken smell almost as if they used almost expired chicken to make it because the chicken was not fresh even the American cheese couldn't cover up the flavor of bad chicken. It was not fresh and I was starving but I couldn't even take another bite and I had to toss it out.
The cakes look so cute and the drinks look really refreshing. They are having bogo on boba drinks. 7/19/26 is the last day for boba milk tea
Sunmerry has multiple locations and their breads are incredibly soft and stay fresh and tasty throughout the entire week. During the holidays, they go all out with festive promotions, like a spin-the-wheel game where you can win treats (I once got a free mini mooncake!), and limited-time holiday-themed goodies. One thing that really sets this bakery apart from other Asian bakeries in the area is their bagels as they're filled with a delicious cream cheese center that's super satisfying. Definitely a must-try!
I was pleasantly surprised to walk into Sunmerry and come across such a large variety of breads and pastries! The bbq pork pineapple bun was good and the ham and cheese croissant was good as well! The breads were soft and fresh. The tiramisu wasn't the best one that I've had before, but I do want to try their berry cake next. The lady recommended the strawberry shortcake smoothie and I added honey boba to it. It was delicious! There was no wait in line and there's an ample amount of seating inside.
I came here around 3:30PM on a Saturday, and there were still a good amount of baked goods available. They have many varieties to choose from including cream donuts, ube conchas, bagels with cream and red beans, and sesame mochi. I got six assorted pastries for $17. They were good and as expected, not too sweet.
I saw they sold strawberry daifuku and have been craving some so I gave it a try . Unfortunately there was a lot of excess mochi folded in, there was also some kind of sponge cake inside which is different from what I'm used to. The mochi itself was good and soft but the red bean inside was not good. It was really dry and hard. I also tried the green tea croissant which was just ok. Not too flavorful and there is no filling just powder on the outside. Lastly I tried the Tiger Milk boba which was soooo good! Perfectly sweet and creamy. Wouldn't get pastries or sweets here just boba. Service was average not very helpful they just take payment.
Service: excellent. I was able to place a phone order for my cake easily. The lady was very nice. I ordered the Berry Party. The cake itself was good. It was a blueberry yogurt with a vanilla cake. It was really soft and fresh. It was good. I think my feedback is more for the decoration skills. I wish it was more detailed and hoped it would look like what I saw on their website. The drawing on my cake was pretty bad compared to what's advertised online. It was laughable. Looked like I ordered a cake from Temu
Visited on a hot day with my partner and the selection were almost out of stock due to them closing within 30 minutes. With the bread racks out, they seem to have tons of stock to fulfill the entire day which is great. Interior is moderately clean, although the AC wasn't working at all so it was pretty stuffy inside. In the middle there's tons of non bread desserts so check those out as well. My favorite is always and forever the pineapple bread (bolo bao) it's always such a savory snack and there's even other variations of the bread, but the original triumphs. Near the front of the middle section, there's always some free samples for customers to try. A great way to find what you want to purchase if you can't find a item that you like. They always do BOGOs drinks and they're pretty refreshing especially on a hot day. My favorite goes to their matcha latte. Very refreshing and affordable. It's not watered down at all which makes the quality decent. read more
I was picking up dinner from Hong Kong Cafe located at Atlantic Times Square in Monterey Park. As I was walking back to my car, I noticed Sunmerry Bakery. It was near their closing time, but thought I go in to see what they have. Chairs were already put up. Very limited baked pastries left for grabs. I was lucky to get a few of them along with $1.00 egg tarts. Yes, you read right... $1.00 egg tarts. They were decect size and quite tasty. Worth the very quick visit! Staff was nice. Interior is spacious. Prices were reasonable. Free parking is available at the square. I'm coming back for more $1.00 egg tarts and whatever else I didn't find that night. Thanks Sunmerry! Note: Happy Lemon used to be in the same space as Sunmerry Bakery, but they are no longer here. However, Sunmerry Bakery still makes some of the Happy Lemon inspired drinks. read more
Never been to this location but there's plenty of underground parking. The AC didn't seem to be on inside so it was kind of warm. There's no bathroom. We came for the BOGO deal for their oolong tea series and were disappointed they ran out of the osmanthus ones. We got the oolong milk tea with light sugar. They said no ice adjustments. It was a decent milk tea, nothing remarkable. read more

Has so many interesting baked good choices. I would compare it to 85 degrees but better. I've also had their cakes multiple times and would prefer it over the 85 degree bakery cakes. I think they have more interesting baked good too where they are just fusion takes on the classics and it's a good take! I judge the taste on the bolo bao though and it was disappointing haha. Cookie wasn't crispy enough and the whole thing just got soggy fast. Bread could have been better as well. I'm giving it 4 stars none the less since cakes and other things were decent. read more

The ambience was nice and chill, it was pretty hot outside and inside the place was pretty cool. The workers weren't rude, and their service was pretty nice. Me and my friend had their crepe cakes which were good, which also had a pretty good deal. It's just that one of the crepe cakes was a little hard, and the matcha may have been a little too concentrated. I recommend the vanilla flavor though. read more

We visited this bakery because the Street Churros we wanted to go was closed today. We walked into a clean hall with baked goods on one side. Croissants look very good, but we decided just to get Americano coffee since we just ate and didn't feel like eating more... The girl at the counter was nice and made our coffee right away. P.S. This shopping plaza is now like a ghost town. 75% of the stores are vacant. I hope this place along with Street Churros survive. read more

I have tried this bakery in Arcadia a couple of times and recently tried this Monterey Park location. The bakery is similar to 85c with an interesting selection of baked goods and drinks. During this visit I tried an assortment of their breads. Savory flavors appeal to me more so I really enjoyed the garlic bread. I've tried a few flavors of their mochi donuts. I took the croissants and buns to somebody's house, and they seemed to enjoy it. Service is quick and efficient. read more

We found this great bakery similar to 85c bakery while in Monterey park. They have a variety of breads and cakes, as well as various beverages. We tried a variety of breads such as their Oreo Choco, Garlic parsley, and Pudding Brioche. Since it is almost Thanksgiving, they had a bread that looked like a turkey! Very creative. All the breads were so fresh, soft, with just the right amount of sweetness. The bakery is very spacious and clean with a lot of seating areas. The staff were great and helpful. We'll definitely come back when in the area and try some different items. Happy Nom Nom! read more

I visited this bakery on a Friday as soon as they opened. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee and it was a huge let down. I asked the the person who took my order if they phin drip their coffee like a traditional Vietnamese coffee or they use espresso, she said they brew the coffee here which I assumed meant Phin drip but it was literally just brewed watered down coffee that wasn't even good. Plus it has some granular pieces in it which I'm not even sure were coffee grounds and it was bitter water down and just not good. The baked goods were okay, similar to stuff at 85 degrees bakery. I enjoyed the brioche bread but the double chocolate croissant tasted off, it didn't taste like a buttery croissant. read more

When going to a bakery with multiple stores, you can sometimes question if the quality is the same across different places. Considering you can find Sunmerry bakeries both in Los Angeles and Taiwan, it's not easy to see if the quality is there. Upon entering the branch in Monterey Park, you are greeted both by the staff and the delicious smell of different pastries. You can grab a tray and choose what you want, with a few things like drinks and certain breads behind the counter. At the end of 2025, this Sunmerry branch offered $1 egg tarts, or a Napoleon style egg tart for $1.15. Although they were out of egg tarts, I decided to get a few of the Napoleon style egg tarts alongside a bolo milk butter bread. These egg tarts were incredible, with the custard being so flavorful yet not overly sweet! The crust had the perfect blend of butter and soft texture to chew yet still had a bit of a crunch too! The bolo milk butter bun was also quite flavorful, albeit with a bit of an empty bubble within it. The sweetness was higher on the bun, so if you are not a fan of sugary pastries, the bolo milk butter bun may not be one you choose. Although I recognize that the egg tarts will return to their regular price soon after my review, the Napoleon egg tarts are definitely worth getting once more! The same can be said for the bolo milk butter bun too! read more

How is this business handling the re-opening? What safety measures are they taking? Are they offering dine-in?
The staff members and customers wear masks, and there is also a plastic shield at the register. There was no dine-in as of early April, but the bakery seems pretty safe and COVID-friendly!
Do they plan on ever adding the mango yakult smoothie that the Bay Area locations have? :)
