I driven past various locations of Hartz for years now, and have been intrigued by idea of a fried…read morechicken buffet, because I love fried chicken. It saddens me to admit that my appetite no longer seems to justify a $14 expense of an all you can eat. The chicken was pretty good. It reminds me of Bush's; good sized pieces, good crust, not very assertive in terms of seasoning (which some might call bland). The bone-in chicken was fresh, hot, and replenished frequently. The tenders were good. I wasn't hungry enough to try everything on the buffet, but if you are, it's probably a good deal. They have a slightly wimpy but adequate salad bar, and a nice array of hot sides. The mashed potatoes were good, you could choose between cream or brown gravy, and the other sides looked good. A buffet that includes the drink is a nice touch. The service was not great. My not very friendly cashier gave me a styrofoam plate (school lunch leftovers I think, with a section marked MILK, ), but not a real tray, and gave no explanation on how to approach seconds at the buffet. While I was there, two different customers had to go ask for a new plate, and almost always had to wait because the cashier was busy elsewhere. When I knocked over my drink, I mopped up what I could with napkins then notified the counter people. They were so unrestrained I wasn't sure they'd even heard me, but one did grab a mop and bucket. I apologized to them as they cleaned up, but no one ever said anything. I don't expect them to be happy about an extra clean up, but decent customer service requires at least acknowledging an embarrassed and apologetic customer!!
