I driven past various locations of Hartz for years now, and have been intrigued by idea of a fried chicken buffet, because I love fried chicken. It saddens me to admit that my appetite no longer seems to justify a $14 expense of an all you can eat. The chicken was pretty good. It reminds me of Bush's; good sized pieces, good crust, not very assertive in terms of seasoning (which some might call bland). The bone-in chicken was fresh, hot, and replenished frequently. The tenders were good. I wasn't hungry enough to try everything on the buffet, but if you are, it's probably a good deal. They have a slightly wimpy but adequate salad bar, and a nice array of hot sides. The mashed potatoes were good, you could choose between cream or brown gravy, and the other sides looked good. A buffet that includes the drink is a nice touch. The service was not great. My not very friendly cashier gave me a styrofoam plate (school lunch leftovers I think, with a section marked MILK, ), but not a real tray, and gave no explanation on how to approach seconds at the buffet. While I was there, two different customers had to go ask for a new plate, and almost always had to wait because the cashier was busy elsewhere. When I knocked over my drink, I mopped up what I could with napkins then notified the counter people. They were so unrestrained I wasn't sure they'd even heard me, but one did grab a mop and bucket. I apologized to them as they cleaned up, but no one ever said anything. I don't expect them to be happy about an extra clean up, but decent customer service requires at least acknowledging an embarrassed and apologetic customer!! read more

This place is great. For the price of $14/per person, this pricing comes with all you can eat buffet and a drink...You can't beat that! And the food were fresh. The staff were very friendly and nice and always had a smile. Even with the place being packed, they were very attentive to their customers needs and the place is clean. Hubby and I stopped by on a whim last Sunday. Glad we did. The place was packed but there were people constantly cleaning the tables and or the floor. Food was fresh and hot. Fresh fried chicken, tenders, livers and gizzards etc..They had quite a variety of vegetables as well. We will definitely be coming back again soon. read more

Clean, brightly lit. Fried chicken all you can eat buffet. The Hartz in Clear Lake was dark and ick. We like this one. Buffet includes Mac & cheese( I didn't have any), stewed okra- more stew than okra,greens- my DH ate 'em , rolls, jello, beets, pudding(canned),bread pudding, livers and gizzards and fish. I have gone here 2-3 times per month for quite a while. Yesterday I had my first bad experience. As usual the food was good, cleanliness good, service no problem. My issue was the heat. It was 100 degrees outside. I left my air conditioned vehicle and walked 30 feet to enter the restaurant. Proceeded to get my buffet and sit at a table. It was so hot in the dining room I was sweating almost immediately. I was only halfway done with my meal and had to chunk it in the trash and go. It's just not enjoyable sitting there eating in a sweatbox. They are too stingy with the A/C. I'll be back in the fall after the weather cools. read more

I started feeling queasy, and after 15 minutes, I realized my stomach was not digesting the chicken properly. My friend Kevin, who usually turns his nose up at anything that looks remotely unappetizing, couldn't resist saying, "I told you so." Horrible inedible food, waste of money. Old stringy dried up fried chicken, dried up burned cold fried liver, no chicken tenders, old mashed potatoes dug out of the bottom of a pot, then dumped in a pile all dried up. At 7pm they have chairs on tables all around you as you try to eat. The owners are rude and hostile and have no respect for customers. I will NEVER go here again! FYI I've seen the owners at the end of the night leave all of the food on the buffet uncovered, turn off the lights and leave going back to Houston. read more

Family of 4 greatly enjoyed this buffet. To save money and prevent wast, we ordered one combo for our two little boys because they are not big eaters. Spouse and I ordered buffet. Everything tasted great. They had fish, salad, tenders, baked chicken, bread, and a variety of fruits. I ate alot of everything, and was very pleased. I did not like how we had to go ask busy cashiers for new plates every time we went for more food at buffet. The service was not too good in that the cashiers did not seem welcoming or informed about menu or prices. I would eat here often if not for the customer service. read more

I got the worst food poisoning of my life from THIS place. Went there one time. One. I had a light lunch there that admittedly wasn't very tasty. That was all it took for me to be up all night violently heaving every ten minutes, to the point where I had to call a friend at like 3am and have her bring me Zofran just to give myself some rest. I can only compare the sick feeling to the time I had Hepatitis A (the hepatitis that is ingested accidentally with improperly prepared food and only lasts a couple of months). Can you believe that? Eating this food puts a disgusting blanket of illness over you that is comparable to contracting fking hepatitis. Thankfully it was less than a couple of days that I was sick from those chicken wings. But as you can probably gather from this review, I will never be going back. Visiting family in Bellville from California we tried Hartz one day. We settled on the buffet since we were eating there anyway. The chicken was good and fresh. They probably refilled it at least twice while we were there. The fish was ok and the shrimp were pretty minuscule, mostly batter. Sides were decent. Honestly, it was good for a quick lunch. Went there on a Sunday after a couple of other places in town were closed due to labor shortages. They only had 4 employees working who showed up and they had a massive crowd. They handled everything with professionalism, explained best option was to order the buffet as they were focused on keeping it up and running, and the food was excellent and hot! I usually like to eat at Hartz when I'm in Brenham, but at this particular time, my recent experience wasn't pleasant. The young man who took my order seemed to be in a hurry and kept getting it wrong. After two times, he finally got it right. After picking up my order as well as my sister's order, we checked our bags to ensure the orders were correct. He messed the orders up and then got cocky about what I ordered. I ordered an extra roll and jalapeño for my three piece chicken meal and ordered a four piece chicken tender meal. Not only did he dispute what I was saying, he lied about one of the items (extra roll) I paid for. He put my jalapeño underneath chicken tenders where it was hard to see. As stated before, the jalapeño was extra item that should have gone with my three piece chicken meal. Upon returning home, I checked the Hartz online menu to see if the 4 piece chicken tender came with a roll, and a roll was listed as coming with that meal. I did not receive my extra roll that I asked and paid for and was made to look like I was trying to get something for nothing. Nevertheless, Hartz was my go to place in Brenham, but not anymore. Customers shouldn't be treated as though they're trying to steal something when they've already paid. read more

Well my first visit here was great except for the lady behind the counter, she acted like it was a pain to take my money both times i came here. My first time the food was excellent, chicken tenders and fish were fresh and tasty. They also had some really good sides also.
