Food is always fabulous along with the service! We've stopped here a couple of times on our way through to Galveston.

My father and I love Smitty's for breakfast. Whenever I come to see my folks I take my Dad on a Daddy/Daughter date and it starts at Smitty's. This time he ordered the Early Bird Special (which I found to be expensive and the reason for only 4 stars. $18 for a breakfast is absurd.) He loved it! The pancake is huge, the hash-browns looked tasty, the eggs were fluffy, the bacon & sausage was delicious. I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy with the crumbled sausage in the gravy ($4 for crumbled sausage?!? Come on!) The meal was delicious I just think the prices are a tad crazy. The service is friendly but a tad slow. We had to wait for our server to stop chatting and laughing with coworkers to get our check. My father is elderly and has early on set dementia so when he's ready to go we're ready to go. Sitting and waiting for 15-20 minutes for the check isn't ideal. So he said we're gonna have to find another breakfast joint now. I'm giving the 4 stars because it's not the cooks fault. He made an excellent meal for us. The place is so cool and unique as well so that makes up for a lot. How many times are you gonna eat at a former gas station turned restaurant and bakery?!? This is hard to write because we come here when we are in town and have never had a bad experience. But today was by far the worst. We sat down we were greeting right away, got waters and ordered. Well then our server came back and said they were not serving lunch but they had a small breakfast menu and a large lunch menu that they were hi h g everyone when being sat. I wanted a BLT which should not be hard to make bc it's just bacon, lettuce and tomato but they should they could t make that, my sister also wanted a chicken sandwich why h they couldn't make either. Well as we were waiting for our food. We saw someone being served a burger and a salad. When we asked about it she then came and said that they could not do chicken or green beans from lunch menu. Maybe they should have a breakfast only menu. People in my party feel like maybe they were being like that bc we were not white. As I walked to bathroom I saw more burgers and fries. Well I asked if I could order a side of fries and our server asked the kitchen and they said they weren't doing lunch. But other people were ordering lunch. Our server was good. It wasn't her fault that the kitchen didn't tell her they were not doing lunch even tho they were making lunch. Just very very disappointed read more

The best part was the food. We went after church and after we ordered our drinks we were told that they were only serving breakfast. So we weren't happy about that. We were given the reason that they were short handed. Mostly high school or college age workers. I feel like it was a little over priced as well. $60 for 2 entrees and 4 drinks. The 2 kids and I all shared the chicken and waffle. There was a good amount of chicken. read more

What a gem of a FIND! We love visiting establishments off the beaten path. This is definitely a place we will visit every time we are anywhere near Brenham. We popped in on Sunday morning. The parking lot was almost full. When we walked in, a sign directed us to seat ourselves but before we could go so, lovely staff greeted us and engaged with us. We chose a cute booth in the back that was made out of recycled bus seats. Also next to us was a wall of honor/history/fun. Don't miss it. It's so fun! Our server was knowledgeable, and engaging. Based on her recommendations we tried the bacon (Yum!!) Biscuits (don't miss!!) ranch potatoes, hash browns & the chicken honey biscuits (wow!!). Portion sizes are large freshly made. They know what they are doing here. The owner was raised in the area, trained at prestigious Le Cordon Bleu and returned back into her roots to open the establishment, worth a day trip to see the bluebonnets and take in a meal. Great place for breakfast and lunch....food offerings are many and tasty. Chicken fried steak with fried okra and fries is my favorite - it can be ordered with any two sides. Fried okra is cooked to perfection. My wife likes the pancake. The service is exceptional and the place has friendly ambiance. The "sweets" vitrine is inviting but can't eat sweet stuff. Bathrooms are clean. Parking is ok. Suggest using GPS if first time visit. read more

My friend and I came to Smitty's on a Tuesday afternoon, it was busy but starting to thin out as we dined. It was seat yourself service, but it took us quite a while to receive service or even some kind of recognition (about 15-20 minutes). Our server was an older white woman who was seemingly passive aggressive our entire interaction. It was just strange to see her treat her other tables, who were literally right next to us, with better customer service.... The food was good but I didn't like how the prices were redacted from the menu, and you weren't made aware until it was time to pay. We paid about $43 total (without tip) for one Chicken Fried Steak Plate and one French Toast plate. I would like to say that we were pretty pleasant and polite but our server obviously felt some kind of way about us/me. The other server was really nice though!! This unassuming renovation of an old gas station is a pleasant surprise if you're in Brendan. The servers are great--friendly, efficient, and sassy, with funny t shirts. But...the food is what really shines. Whoever is back in the kitchen working that fryer really knows their stuff. The fried stuff was perfect--piping hot, crispy, but not greasy. My side salad was gorgeous, and as impressive as entree salads I've had. My "Chicken strips" were more like 2 full breast fillets, and were delicious (even the one I didn't get to for 12 hours!). My companion's chicken fried steak was excellent, he said, as were the perfectly cooked green beans. But...the onion rings!!! To die for. Huge. Crispy. Perfection. Food was great, service was terrible. Older woman cleaned our table and gave us menus and never came back. Young woman got drink orders which she brought to the table and never came back. Another young woman waited on other tables but not us. Older woman waited on tables but not ours. I finally got up and asked a young man who seemed to be helping out and he took our order. The restaurant is unique because it's in an old gas station. From the outside, it's a little hard to even tell it's a restaurant, but it's redone nicely inside. We visited on a Sunday right around peak brunch time and service was pretty slow as expected. We had to wait a while for a table and our food. But the food was delicious! When this wonderful restaurant was downtown Brenham, we were there at least 2 Sundays a month. They moved to their 290 location and have given their customers a larger dining area, they do not disappoint. Many must haves on their menu, however the Chicken Fried Steak any-day (Or Wednesdays) is hands down the best next to making it at home! Good place on the side of the road that used to be a gas station. Great thick cut bacon and hand formed sausage patties. Biscuits are nice and heavy buttermilk style, dense like they were made grandma. The stick to your ribs kind. Hand shredded potatoes for the hash browns. Try them, you'll understand what I mean. Pancakes are large, about 8" across, comes on its own plate. Good coffee and friendly people. Bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Parking lot full but plenty room inside and has an outdoor seating and smoking area. Give 'em a try and enjoy. read more

We almost missed it! Not a lot in the way of signage to bring you in from Hwy 290. After we finished breakfast, I almost wished we had missed it, which may not be fair since the menu items were exactly what we expected and came to the table exactly as ordered, and my husbands disagrees with me. But, its my review so I am speaking my mind! Eggs and chicken fried steak (half order) disappeared quick enough but gravy on my biscuits was just warm and left me a little underwhelmed. If you are planning go to Smitty's and you're hungry, don't do it. We had to wait over an hour for our food. The last time we were there which was on a Sunday. The restaurant was busy, but it seems like they may only have one person working in the kitchen. Service is extremely slow. The food is pretty good and the servers are all very sweet, but this place needs to get together getting the dishes out. read more

My wife and I recently came to this restaurant for a Sunday lunch which was unfortunately not very good. We both ordered cheese burgers and we asked that they be cooked medium and they came out well done. Our waitress said that that's the way they cook them ; well then why did they ask us how we wanted them cooked anyway? We sat in a booth near the front and the window was absolutely gross with fingerprints and dead flies at the base of the window ; seriously, they need to think about getting both inside and outside windows cleaned on a regular basis . The menus that we were given, had black marker editing over the prices and was really hard to read. The one positive aspect of the restaurant was that the onion rings were absolutely enormous with a crispy coating and juicy on the inside. read more

Located off the highway in a former gas station, this place served up the best country breakfast!! The chef owner is classically trained and it shows. Though it was standard diner fare, we could tell our brekkie was prepared by expert hands. The biscuits were only to be rivaled by my grandmother! Oh boy! I'm so glad this is so very close to my workplace. We have had several lunches out, a catered event in the outdoor event space and have used Smitty's for a few catered meals on our site.
