This weekend we went out to Elgin for their music festival, and dinner beforehand. There were so many items on the menu I wanted to get, but I went with my gut and got the Club Sandwich. It was kind of small, but that's a good thing, because while I like clubs, they're usually too big for me. Everything else about it was just perfect. If you like bacon, you might be a little disappointed, because the bacon was scant. On the side I chose onion rings since the only options were those or two types of fries. I tried a few nibbles of those, but they were easy to leave behind. I wanted to save room for dessert! All the desserts looked good, and their meringue pies appeared to be most popular, but I chose the Italian Wedding Cake. It was soooooo much better than the carrot cake I tried a few months ago, but maybe I'm just overly picky about my carrot cakes. This cake was huge and moist, and a real treat! My husband's burger seemed fine. Not too much to tell about it. We're definitely going to have to be back!

Well then our server came back and said they were not serving lunch but they had a small breakfast menu and a large lunch menu that they were hi h g everyone when being sat. I wanted a BLT which should not be hard to make bc it's just bacon, lettuce and tomato but they should they could t make that, my sister also wanted a chicken sandwich why h they couldn't make either. Well as we were waiting for our food. We saw someone being served a burger and a salad. When we asked about it she then came and said that they could not do chicken or green beans from lunch menu. Maybe they should have a breakfast only menu. People in my party feel like maybe they were being like that bc we were not white. As I walked to bathroom I saw more burgers and fries. Our boys got the chicken strips, my husband had the Philly cheesesteak, and I ordered the chicken-fried steak. Everything was delicious! They also have board games available to play while you wait, which was such a cute touch. We ended up playing Candy Land with the boys while waiting for our food, and honestly, that made the experience even more memorable. One thing worth mentioning: this is a mom-and-pop shop, not a big chain restaurant. Come with a little patience and enjoy the experience. The staff is taking care of everyone, the food is being made with care, and good food is worth waiting for. We were a little sad that we didn't get to try more of the sweet treats because several had already sold out--which, considering how good the ones we did get were, makes perfect sense. Disappointing BBQ Experience…read more We stopped at Meyer's BBQ after a fun morning of picking blackberries down the road and were really looking forward to lunch. Unfortunately, this was our first visit, and will also be our last. My mom ordered the chicken, my sister had the chili, and I went all in with the brisket, ribs, creamed corn, coleslaw, and buttermilk pie. The brisket was, without question, the driest brisket I've ever had. It was so dry that I had to take a drink after nearly every bite just to get it down. The ribs weren't much better, equally dry and lacking seasoning. The creamed corn had a strange texture and flavor that neither of us enjoyed, and the coleslaw was just average. In the end, all of my meal, plus half of my mom's chicken, went home for the dogs. The one bright spot was the buttermilk pie. It was surprisingly good and had just the right amount of sweetness. To be fair, the staff was very friendly, and the restaurant and bathrooms were clean. They deserve five stars for hospitality and cleanliness. Unfortunately, the food itself was closer to one star, and when you're visiting a BBQ restaurant, the food matters most. What made this even more disappointing was that we passed by the day before and saw what looked like the entire Elgin police department parked there. We figured it must be fantastic. Sadly, that wasn't our experience. I wouldn't eat here again, and I wouldn't recommend it based on the food we received. Such a disappointment.
