Pastries

What an absolute gem of a stop! I wasn't expecting much from a store next to a gas station, but this place completely surprised me. The shop itself is spotless, bright, and welcoming, with tables where you can sit and actually enjoy your food instead of rushing back to the car. The coffee selection is huge, with plenty of drinks on tap, and the shelves are stocked with all kinds of snacks and groceries. But what really makes this place stand out is the bakery, every pastry looks like a piece of art, and they taste even better. I tried the sausage and sauerkraut pastry and it was incredible, truly something special you won't find anywhere else. The bread is also fresh and delicious, the kind you want to take home and keep for later. On top of all that, the staff is so warm and welcoming, they're happy to explain the options and even recommend their favorites, which made the experience feel really personal. This is hands down the best store by a gas station I've ever seen, and honestly, I'd go out of my way to stop here again. If you're anywhere nearby, do yourself a favor and try their baked goods you won't regret it

Place was clean and staff was friendly. I do prefer these kolaches over the one down the Rd. Will say they have to work on their boudain roll cus it was lacking flavor like bad bad. Also filling was very little so it was more bread than anything.

The best stop between Houston and Austin in Ellinger, TX. Clean bathrooms, good service, extensive variety of kolaches and other baked goods.

This is a MUST-STOP if you are traveling on Highway 71 between Austin and Houston. I'm Czech and I am a kolache snob; these are some of the best kolaches and klobasneks in the State (yes, there is a difference. Kolaches are open faced with a sweet / fruit filling; klobasneks have meat). The apple, blueberry, lemon, and poppy seed are kolache staples but you absolutely have to have the strawberry/cream cheese or cherry/cream cheese kolaches. If you're going down the klobasnek path, go with the pan sausage/jalapeno/cheese or boudin. This is also a convenience store with lots of great road trip snacks and candy that I haven't seen since I was a kid. It really feels like walking back in time (in a good way) when you stop at Hruskas.

Is the bathroom as big or tidy as their bucktoothed competitor? No. But the food? Insane. Yes, big monied competitors have sign urging you to put off stopping. Don't listen. The selection of pastries, both sweet and savory is unbeatable. The best kolaches and klobasnikys I have ever had. The flavor, amazing, the selection insane. And the service is always super friendly. A must stop on road trips from Houston to Austin.

Definitely better than Buccees ! This is our go to stop when coming out to the hill country! It's not too busy, you can always get a spot at the gas pump, and the kolaches are amazing ! Usually I'd rate it 5 stars but this time they seemed to be renovating or reorganizing. Half the gas options were not available and the store was a but sparse. That being said it's still worth the stop! Come earlier in the day if possible to have more kolache options (we stopped at about 5pm and they were pretty much out of everything). They also have a lot of their own branded snacks plus the usual gas station options. All the staff here are always very chipper and upbeat which is nice too

The burgers are good but the kolaches and cinnamon rolls are even better! Worth the stop.

The burger was just okay. The bun was cold. It would have been better toasted. Wish they had fries.

Another great meal today posing as a late lunch. Likely a good thing as I will not have to eat…read moreagain today. Service was great as always as well. Love the "feel" of the place. Wood floors, tin ceilings and walls and people of all walks of life. Nuthin better!

My friend insisted we go here for lunch because he was raving about "the best burger in town." I…read moreimmediately hit him with, "But I'm a vegetarian!" Lol. Pulling up to Roadhouse felt like I was about to film a low-budget country music video. The aggressively unpretentious energy was immaculate. The all-dirt parking lot said everything! No curated patio, no aesthetic succulents just straight up vibes and dust. The place was packed at 1 p.m. Our server, Raven, took great care of us from the jump. Rave was very efficient, friendly, and had zero attitude. We ordered a basket of fries, a portobello mushroom burger for me, a cheeseburger, a Philly cheesesteak, upgraded side salads, and, of course, their famous carrot cake to share. Now, let me confess something: As a Californian, I walked in with absolutely zero expectations given the facade. And yet... the fries were perfect. The portobello burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and very satisfying! My friends inhaled their cheeseburger and Philly like they were participating in a competitive sport. Lol. And don't even get me started with their carrot cake. It was disrespectfully delicious! This was seriously the most humbling "don't judge a book by its cover" moment I've had in a while. Roadhouse doesn't need any curated lighting or a reclaimed-wood Instagram wall because the food and service speak for themselves. I drove into a dirt lot with skepticism and left faceplanted by my own bias. Consider me corrected, Bastrop!

Call me old fashioned, but I judge a burger joint by their standard burger. No frills, no gimmicks,…read moreno tricks. Just your standard burger, your #1. A burger has to stand on the strength of their beef, after all, and how are you going to taste that with gimmicks and special sauce? Well, I opted for the #2, which differs from the #1 in that it's a double. It is Texas Burger, and everything has to be bigger in Texas, right? The #2 is a double, 2/3 lb burger. I got the combo which came with seasoned fries and a fountain drink. You'll find no complain from me here. It's an excellent, fast food burger. The burger was size-able and juicy, and the flavor was delicious. You can compare it to the ilk of Whataburger or DQ, and that's not bad company to be in. The seasoned fries were delicious, not over cooked and seasoned just right. I am a little disappointed that this a fast food place, rather than a gourmet burger restaurant, but I'll blame the advertising on I-10 for that, and it didn't take away from the taste or experience for me.

What an experience! I decided to stop here for a burger and a shake on the way home from Houston…read moresince I had once tried the Texas Burger in Madisonville and liked it. First there was the drive-thru. The speaker doesn't work, there is no sign warning you, and somehow you are supposed to know what you want when you get to the window. Fine for those regulars familiar with the menu but they have no paper menu to look at when you get there. So the kid starts reciting it. To make it easy I ordered a double Texas burger dry with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and lots of onion. Kid didn't know what flavor ice cream for the shake they had, so he had to go look and memorize the flavors So I pay and wait. My receipt comes back saying no onion after ordering extra and nothing about dry. So they had to remake the burger and give a proper receipt. Everything was a big production, a comedy of errors by a completely clueless and incompetent crew with no adult supervision. I ate my burger while waiting for my shake and it was good. But I surely wouldn't recommend using the drive thru. Yelp was down for service else I'd have checked in. The business shares a spot with Subway and was hard to find as signage is poor despite being near the freeway.
