Arrived at two pm for a late lunch. Found out they have a daily buffet until 1 pm so I will come earlier next time. Got a two meat plate, brisket and sausage. I did it think the portion size was very large. My entree and a soda were over $20. It does come with a buffet for sides. The buffet also had fried chicken and hamburger patties. Not sure I was supposed to get meat patties but I did. As I was eating they were breaking down the buffet. So much for seconds lol The food was very good and the ambience is a home town comfort food restaurant. I had some pork ribs, which were perfectly seasoned and tasty. And the BBQ sauce I got on the side was also created quite nicely! Stopped by on the way back to Katy from Houston. People were nice. Good amount of traffic coming in and out. Food was decent. We had brisket (lean serving and a moist serving) and sausage (regular and jalapeño cheddar). Good helpings on the two meat plate. Sides were self serve and were also decent: potato salad, slaw, beans, green beans. A lot of locals seemed to know that they have specials each night...I wish I had known. I was in Austin on Saturday and on the way home I stopped at Hruska's in Ellinger to gas up and take a gander at the kolaches, etc. It was after 7pm and the pickings were slim, so I drove across the street to Peter's BBQ and got a sliced BBQ sandwich. They were about to slice up a lean end of a brisket when I remembered to ask for moist. Then they grabbed a different end and piled my sandwich high with a frankly comical amount of meat. Like, no way is that fitting inside the bun - but since you're wrapping it in wax paper, I guess it will kind of stay together. I didn't know what to expect from this unassuming locale, but that meat was smoky and salty and delicious. I shamefully ate every bite. read more

Best homestead buffet around!! The carrots used to be one of my favorites buttery and sweet but seems they have changed to plain ole boiled carrots. The food was cold not even room temp. Very fatty brisket, sides were as bad as the bbq. I really don't understand the bad quality. There are awards everywhere on the wall and went there by recommendation of a friend. They are proud of their BBQ. $14 for a 2 meat plate. The BBQ we had was dry. BBQ sauce was really good. Sausage tasted like it was from a grocery store. Super tasty and filling! Stopped by after hitting the Hatari Safari. We were famished! So made a 20 min stop on our way to Austin. I had a hopped brisket potato and it was a 7 out of 10. Great portions and the brisket was nice and tender with. Good flavor but the sauce was a little sweet and watery. I was expecting the potato to be fully dressed with lots of cheese, bacon, sour cream and chives but this wasn't it. Sadly. But it was still very good! My 6 year old son got the kids' meal with sausage and it was a great portion size that came with: potato salad, cole slaw, banana pudding, a slice of whole wheat bread and an ice cream cone. Love me some good Bbq and decided to try this place. We ordered the 2 meat combo which was reasonably priced. They have their sides in a buffet style line so you can service yourself. The sides were warm but the meat we got was room temperature which was very disappointing. The ribs, sausages and brisket all tasted good but decided to take them all home so I could eat them hot. The gentleman behind the counter asked how it was and informed him the bbq sauce we got was warmer then the meat. He looked puzzled but didn't even check the temperature of the meat. The bbq sauce had a metallic taste and taste like it came out of a can and as it cooled off it congealed. Just extremely disappointed in the TX bbq joint. Won't be going back. read more

Moist brisket was severely underwhelming, sausage was bland, and sides were just fine (though seemingly canned based on the stacks of baked beans cans). On our quest to try every BBQ place in Texas we stopped at Peters on our way to Galveston. Glad we did. You know the place has to be good when the truckers parking in back is full and you get the last parking spot in the lot. Walked right up to the front and ordered the three meat plate - sorry no picture we gobbled it down before thinking to take the picture. It's a full pound of BBQ and three sides, which you get to pick yourself. My favorite, options. We got the brisket, sausage, and dark meat chicken. Loved it all. They weigh it in front of you so you know it's a full pound. Our sides were potato salad, red skinned potatoes, the cucumber salad, and I threw in a few green beans. The red skinned potatoes were my favorite, dig down to the bottom and get some butter with them. Delicious! I really liked the cucumber salad too. Hubbys favorite was the potato salad. Deducted a star because they didn't have pulled pork, my favorite. But they do great at everything we tried. The BBQ sauce was decent and different than anywhere else we've been. It seems to be tomato based, looks like tomato soup but tasty. On Fridays they have a mini buffet, it had fried fish, baked fish, and chopped brisket. What's better than good BBQ? Good BBQ at an unbeatable price! Whenever I'm driving from Austin to Houston, or back from Houston to Austin, I always stop at Peter's BBQ. You can't miss it, it's the red and white building near Hruska's. I stop there because the food is great, real Texas bbq, and my kids love it too! My daughter will eat a whole bowl of green beans. Even though she never eats green beans when I make them! My son loves the chicken, but my favorites are the brisket sandwich and spicy beans. I also like to order a whole chicken to go so I don't have to make dinner later. It's the best. After everyone is done we all get a free vanilla ice cream cone and hit the road. I know most people like to stop at big places, but we prefer the to support the locals, who are always happy to see us and welcome our business with open arms and big plates of food. read more

I was really hoping to find me a spot to stop at along the way to Austin, but this won't be it... The BBQ is beyond bland. I don't understand how a place can call themselves BBQ, but serve up bland meat. That doesn't make any sense to me. I ordered takeout with my parents. My dad and mum both ordered chopped beef and said it was delicious. However, I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich with onions, pickles and bbq sauce. I never received any sauce. The brisket wasn't tender enough, lots of fatty ends which made half of the sandwich inedible. The whole sandwich was bland even the white onions, which to me is rare. Since onions are usually packed with flavour. It was a disappointment to the meaning of true BBQ especially in TEXAS and the SOUTH. (That's not how we do in the south, with food, we throw it down!!!) I'm thinking whoever Peter gave his recipe to screwed it up because I know Peter wouldn't open up a restaurant that serves up mediocre barbecue. Overall, the restaurant is clean and smells fresh. I was afraid it would smell old since from the outside it looks old-fashioned. The ladies restroom was clean, although the toilet bowl had a permanent ring around it. Brought my 91 year old Mother for bbq. Got her ribs, fatty brisket and sausage plus the have a huge vegetable buffet and liver, fried chicken.
