Let me just say this--without a doubt, this is the best BBQ in Fayette County, and honestly, the best I've ever had in all of Texas... and I'd even go as far as to say worldwide. I've been coming here since I was a little girl--over 20 years now--and every single time, it's just as incredible as I remember. There's something so special about the way the flavors hit: smoky, tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to absolute perfection. The consistency over the years is unreal. It doesn't matter what you order--brisket, ribs, sausage, even the sides--it all tastes like it was made with love, passion, and generations of tradition. The BBQ here isn't just food, it's an experience. It brings back memories of family road trips, small-town charm, and meals that made you stop mid-bite just to savor the moment. This place is the real deal. The kind of spot you dream about when you're far from home. If you know, you know. And if you don't--you're seriously missing out.

Arrived at two pm for a late lunch. Found out they have a daily buffet until 1 pm so I will come earlier next time. Got a two meat plate, brisket and sausage. I did it think the portion size was very large. My entree and a soda were over $20. It does come with a buffet for sides. The buffet also had fried chicken and hamburger patties. Not sure I was supposed to get meat patties but I did. As I was eating they were breaking down the buffet. So much for seconds lol The food was very good and the ambience is a home town comfort food restaurant. I felt the meat plate could have had a larger serving size but I did get pretty full so I shouldn't complain. I will be back again.

Period the end. They are on Hwy 71 in Ellinger Tx. I have been going there for 20 years or more and never had a bad meal. Not sure how long they have been there but 1951 is scratched into the cement by the front door. This place has never changed. Not fancy and I love it that way. A true Texas gem not a wanna be. From the people to the building to the food. Everyone is nice and personable. Some of the best award winning BBQ. But their lunch special every day is over the top. Yesterday - homemade turkey and dressing meatloaf- the best I've ever had fried chicken- can't even tell you how amazing , (and the wonderful woman came out who cooked it to introduce herself when I told one of the guys how amazing it was). BBQ chicken and pork ribs Potatoes and onions, carrots, cabbage , greens, cole slaw , potato salad . Homemade peach cobbler (yes it comes with best vanilla ice cream) , banana pudding and sweet rice. And I'm sure I missed something. It's like going to a fabulous thanksgiving meal in someone's home that they spent days preparing. You can taste the love! I'm not kidding. Anyway if I haven't made you hungry I don't know what to say. If you have never been go! Id say it's definitely worth the drive especially if you find yourself driving to Austin. Drive hungry and stop for lunch. Love these guys and this place! Anyone ever want to meet me there I'm all in!

Just happen to be driving through and decided to give this little place a try. Well, it's not a fancy place. Interior is clean and folks here are very nice. Wow! They are proud of their BBQ. $14 for a 2 meat plate. The BBQ we had was dry. BBQ sauce was really good. Sausage tasted like it was from a grocery store. Bathrooms are dirty and have never been updated since many years ago. Don't plan to stop here again. Will keep driving.

Food is not bad. The place is not very clean. There is a difference between old and dirty.

Great BBQ food and plenty of side dishes. Very casual, served on paper plates. It was a good find on the side of the road!

A must stop if you are traveling between Houston and Austin on Hwy 71. I'm usually a Bucees guy,…read morebut this place specializes in something that the beaver doesn't. Kolaches! Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.

Pulling up to Roadhouse felt like I was about to film a low-budget country music video. The aggressively unpretentious energy was immaculate. The all-dirt parking lot said everything! No curated patio, no aesthetic succulents just straight up vibes and dust. The place was packed at 1 p.m. Our server, Raven, took great care of us from the jump. Rave was very efficient, friendly, and had zero attitude. We ordered a basket of fries, a portobello mushroom burger for me, a cheeseburger, a Philly cheesesteak, upgraded side salads, and, of course, their famous carrot cake to share. Now, let me confess something: As a Californian, I walked in with absolutely zero expectations given the facade. And yet... the fries were perfect. The portobello burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and very satisfying! My friends inhaled their cheeseburger and Philly like they were participating in a competitive sport. Lol. And don't even get me started with their carrot cake. It was disrespectfully delicious! This was seriously the most humbling "don't judge a book by its cover" moment I've had in a while. Roadhouse doesn't need any curated lighting or a reclaimed-wood Instagram wall because the food and service speak for themselves. I drove into a dirt lot with skepticism and left faceplanted by my own bias. Consider me corrected, Bastrop!

Call me old fashioned, but I judge a burger joint by their standard burger. No frills, no gimmicks,…read moreno tricks. Just your standard burger, your #1. A burger has to stand on the strength of their beef, after all, and how are you going to taste that with gimmicks and special sauce? Well, I opted for the #2, which differs from the #1 in that it's a double. It is Texas Burger, and everything has to be bigger in Texas, right? The #2 is a double, 2/3 lb burger. I got the combo which came with seasoned fries and a fountain drink. You'll find no complain from me here. It's an excellent, fast food burger. The burger was size-able and juicy, and the flavor was delicious. You can compare it to the ilk of Whataburger or DQ, and that's not bad company to be in. The seasoned fries were delicious, not over cooked and seasoned just right. I am a little disappointed that this a fast food place, rather than a gourmet burger restaurant, but I'll blame the advertising on I-10 for that, and it didn't take away from the taste or experience for me.

What an experience! I decided to stop here for a burger and a shake on the way home from Houston…read moresince I had once tried the Texas Burger in Madisonville and liked it. First there was the drive-thru. The speaker doesn't work, there is no sign warning you, and somehow you are supposed to know what you want when you get to the window. Fine for those regulars familiar with the menu but they have no paper menu to look at when you get there. So the kid starts reciting it. To make it easy I ordered a double Texas burger dry with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and lots of onion. Kid didn't know what flavor ice cream for the shake they had, so he had to go look and memorize the flavors So I pay and wait. My receipt comes back saying no onion after ordering extra and nothing about dry. So they had to remake the burger and give a proper receipt. Everything was a big production, a comedy of errors by a completely clueless and incompetent crew with no adult supervision. I ate my burger while waiting for my shake and it was good. But I surely wouldn't recommend using the drive thru. Yelp was down for service else I'd have checked in. The business shares a spot with Subway and was hard to find as signage is poor despite being near the freeway.
