We opted for the buffet for a few dollars more to try the different types of foods they offered. I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The barbecue chicken and fried chicken was great along with the vegetables. They offered green beans, corn, sauerkraut and sausage which was just OK, the sausage was store-bought and I am used to homemade so I didn't care for it. The desserts, which went with the buffet were great. I like the bread, pudding and cobbler. The lemon sauce that you could add to your bread pudding had a chemical flavor. Probably from the fake lemon flavor added. The rolls were awesome as was the cornbread. The service was fine seeing how you served yourself for a buffet. The price was adequate and I would come back. Stopped by on impromptu visit. Had the buffet which included soup and salad no drink for $17.99. Price is well worth in considering you get a lot of options to choose from. We stopped here for lunch on our way through town. Decided to get the buffet and it did not disappoint. Small selection but the food!! The fried chicken was seasoned and juicy, the potatoes were real potatoes, and the green beans were not from a can. We stopped by today (9/4/2023) and ate at the buffet. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! The ingredients for the salad were fresh, the ribs were tasty, and the fried chicken was on point. To add to the list: homemade mashed potatoes, well seasoned black eyed peas, and cornbread/rolls.Their deserts were also top-notch. We were coming in to houston from san antonio and we stopped at oakridge restaurant and may i just say that the breakfast food was amazing. my favorite was the biscuits and the scrambled eggs. we came just at the end of breakfast when they started taking lunch out. that also looked amazing and my family and i decided to come back on our way back to san antonio. they had country music playing and there was a cute little shop in the front. the staff at the buffet were so nice and welcoming. I hate reading all of these bad reviews because i loved the service and the food and i hate how people didn't love it as much as my family and i did. read more

This place is just a lot of fun. Great theme with a humorous twist. When you walk in , you walk in a nice bakery and deli souvenir store. The restaurant entrance is in the back of the store and opens up to three " back country " style dining rooms. Although the buffet is not our style it was very busy. We had a great "platter" and platter means big brisket , sausage and baked potato dinner at a reasonable price. The service was very good. It's definitely worth a stop by and right off the freeway. A must stop when traveling I-10. Wonderful baked goods, including fruit kolaches, piggies in a blanket, and cinnamon raisin bread. The raisin bread can be sliced for free, and freezes quite well. They have an all day/everyday buffet from breakfast to supper that's very good for the price. Pick your meats from the bottom of the pan though. The top slices tend to get dry. Big ol biscuits and yummy gravy are my favs. read more

We have been here previously for the smoked, dried meats and have been pleased, so a quick dinner stop at Oakridge on the way to Houston sounded reasonable. I ordered a half lb each of the sausage, the brisket and the turkey; Also ordered some potato salad and beans. The potato salad was the clear winner in my order. It was pretty good. Unfortunately, all of the meat was lacking in some form or fashion. The sausage was boiled...uggghh, the brisket had no bark nor flavor, and the turkey was dry and also lacked flavor. I was so disappointed with my experience, I signed up on Yelp, just to review the place. One star because you can stop and pee here! No seriously, don't eat here if you are wanting BBQ. read more

We stopped here on our way down to the Rio Grande Valley, where my Mom spends the winters. We pulled into the parking lot at approximately 7:40 PM, and asked them how late they were open. We were told '8:30', so we decided we'd go in and eat. We were seated, and waited a short time for the waitress to come out of the kitchen and take our drink orders. Since it was a little bit late, we both decided to just eat off of the 'all you can eat' buffet. Food was good enough. By 8:00 PM, they started sweeping the floor, all around our table, raising up some dust and dirt. At 8:10, the owner (I assume), came out from the front of the restaurant and told the staff 'that's it', and they promptly started tearing down the buffet. They did ask 'you don't want anything else from the buffet, do you?', to which we just said no, even though we were still slightly hungry. At this point we just felt rushed to get out of there. We finished up, and left around 8:15-8:20. Never have I felt so rushed to leave and uncomfortable in my dining experience. As mentioned, the food was good enough, but the dining atmosphere was not. Probably will skip the place next year, unless we're there before 7:00. If a restaurant is open until 8:30, they should be serving food until that time. When we left, they had a sign out that said, 'kitchen closed', so they obviously want to have the place cleaned up and gone by 8:30; if that's the case, then they should tell customers that they close at 8:00, not 8:30. My Dad owned a restaurant for years, so I understand the time it takes to close and clean a kitchen. We also welcomed customers near closing time, and did NOT start cleaning the front of the house until they were finished, as that is rude to your paying clientele. STOP rushing your customers through....not a relaxing dining experience at all. read more

This is a country style place that reminds me of cracker barrel with WAY better food. It is country with waitresses who help you out. My family had driven from San Antonio the Jasper to say goodbye to my father's mother and was on our way back in one very long day. All told that's a six hour drive in one day to a kind of funeral and back. But don't think this was about our emotional roller coaster. This was about a small town eatery having no consideration for good paying customers. My mother, who loved this place, talked us into stopping even though we had already eaten a rather large lunch. She asked to get a buffet to go. They said yes but you can't eat it here. Why not? You have to buy a buffet for here to eat here and one to go to take with you. This is dumb for two reasons. One, my mother weighs almost a third of what I do. Did they think she was pulling one over on them. I crushed that buffet right there and she just wanted to fill a box. So you get more food if you stay there. It wasn't like she thought she could eat all she wanted and then take a full box home. She wasn't very hungry, wanted to take some home, and also wanted to peck at something (the same thing already in the box and NO MORE) while the rest of her party ate. That's the second reason. I'm not one of those that thinks you ought to be able to get everything you want exactly the way you want it, but when you're threatening to call the cops on a lady with 5 others with her all good paying customers...let it go. But to threaten the cops because the person at the counter said what she was doing was okay but the owner disagreed is..well...it says disastrous things about the state of our world. I'm not exaggerating either that's like calling the cops because McDonald's is out of fries which happens all the time. And this from a small town??? Small towns are supposed to be the sane ones when the rest of the world is going to hell in a hand basket. So the owner wants to scare off potential future customers, alright she's done just that. Has to be the worst food I have eaten in a long time! The only thing decent was the salad. The ribs were all fat. The dressing would have been better if they had used stove top brand. The world famous bread pudding was awful. Our drinks were even flat when they got to us. We were seated at a dirty table and had to wait for it to be cleaned. My wife had pancakes which was real good,the bacon is great. I had the Spanish omelet which was huge. They have homemade bread they use for toast. That was also good. The only draw back was the hash browns. They were just turned over on the grill several times and not crispy on outside. Service was good and we were in out in no time. We liked the bacon so much that we bought more out of the deli. The only other bacon that come's close is Hawaii. I would recommend for breakfast cannot comment on lunch. read more

Honestly ..if you ARE NOT accustomed to eating good food...you will probably like it..if you are people who like GOOD FOOD.. I have been here several times but only for the beef jerky which is really good. I would give the jerky 4 stars. Today we decided to try the food. One of the worst meals I've ever had. My husband got the beef and sausage plate. I could immediately tell it was dry and tough. My husband only ate a couple pieces and a small bite was enough for me. Even adding there thick sweet BBQ sauce couldn't help how dry the brisket was. The ranch style beans were cold and the potato salad was nothing special. The sausage wasn't bad and the only thing he was able to continue eating off his plate. I had the chicken fried steak and mash potatoes. $10 for the smallest chicken fried steak I've ever had. The rest of the plate was covered in a huge mound of mash potatoes. They were both edible but nothing special. Even the iced tea was horrible. We didn't ask for refills and only drank about half a glass. We didn't complain just decided that we would never ever eat here again. We proceeded to the register. I ordered our usually beef jerky at the counter. As I was paying a noticed some cute rings and bracelets. I told the women I wanted a bracelet so she added it and told me my total. I told her I'd also like to see a ring first. She seemed so annoyed. I asked if I could try one on, she snapped at me and told me "there stretchy". Yes well I have thin fingers and need to make sure it fits before I purchase one. I tried it on and I was right it was too small. I told her it didn't fit and she snatched it out of my hand and set it to the side. I guess she woke up on the wrong side of the bed, maybe she didn't like my blue hair, Or maybe she's just old and cranky.
