    The wifey buying! Buying!

WOW! and that's in capital letters. What a find is this place. No kidding on this review. This is the BEST turkey sandwich I've had. And you can checkout all my previous reviews and I've had some amazing sandwiches before. And the wifey loved! loved! her turkey plate. And the place is a shop too, so many cool things to get. And lastly, service and people are super nice. Clean too.

Max and I are in Texas for a few weeks and have passed this place almost every day on our way to the antique show we are doing. Left the show early to try this place and we were not disappointed!! Best sauerkraut I have ever eaten!! The stewed cabbage excellent as was just about everything else we had. The service also spot on. They even gave us to go cups of tea. What?!! Thanks so much!!

Well well...this was a nice surprise! We visited years ago, and it wasn't anything special. We stopped by on our way back from a martial arts event in Houston. This time, it was such a great meal, for a great price, that I struggled to find negative items. I have to review the whole establishment, not just the restaurant itself. We got the buffet. It's not a buffet with tons of items. The items they did offer, were great! You get very full fast, not very many light items, unless you just get salad. Who gets salad at a buffet? Exactly.! We got roasted chicken, sausage, fried chicken, sausage, turkey breast, beef tips in gravy, rice, corn, macaroni salad, peach cobbler, and bread pudding. No complaints really on the food. Nothing was dry, and it was well seasoned! The sausage was the only thing we didn't like, just lacked flavor. Super affordable too! I love that! The big hit was the peach cobbler for me. I'm not a fan of it in general. I love when I give it foods another shot, and I get my mind changed! This one was awesome! The staff was super friendly and attentive! The negatives are for the place itself. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting! We said nope, we will hold it till bucceees. The store also makes no sense, and honestly seems extremely dated and the layout makes no sense. Also, there are not tons of items to choose in the buffet. Maybe we got lucky today, I was told they change items regularly. You're fine if you just eat here! I would eat here again if on the road and hungry!

Service was great. BBQ brisket was a little better than Buckee's bbq brisket sandwich. it was about 15% fat which is how I like it. it was a little tough or more drier on the end which is to be expected. I could smell the "smoked" meat some. It is between lunch and dinner. Maybe it would have been better at lunch or dinner. I love a good tender brisket. This was probably an 8 out of 10 on the tenderness side.

Some of the best chicken n' dumplings that I have ever had!!

There was delicious chicken n' dumplings, with soft, delicate noodles and a delectable, dainty sauce. The sausage was very tasty, it paired up perfectly with the sauerkraut. The actual restaurant is very clean and was built in 1969, still going strong! Our waitress, Renita, was so kind and she brought out my food in less than a minute! The ladies at the register were very helpful and kind, as well as understanding. The hostesses who worked near the buffet were very funny as well, making this experience amazing. There were no flies at the buffet, and all the food was fresh and hot! There was no limit on the amounts of desserts you picked out from the buffet either. My iron-deficient member of the party enjoyed the square ice. They said that it was the fourth best ice that they ever bit into. They welcome people of all ages and genders, and are very sweet!! 10/10 place, I absolutely recommend!!

Found this spot on the way to the coast and it was a winner for sure....Can you say breakfast buffet...flashing back to Joey in Vegas...The service is exactly what you expect from an old school place....super sweet and friendly...Love the looks inside and out...also have a nice little store with various knick knacks....The food was outstanding and seriously some of the Best Bacon we have had...period.....Everything on the Buffet was fresh and hot...on the permanent radar for us.

    Sooooo tender and delicious

Food and service were wonderful. I liked most everything there. Not a fan of the BBQ sauce but other than that loved it all.

Headed to Galveston from New Braunfels for our cruise, got hungry and stopped here for lunch. It's a staple in this area (been around since 1969!). I've been here before in the past, but my travel companions have not. They did have an epic looking lunch buffet, but we stuck with single entrees. Chicken Fried Chicken meal 8/10 - I would give this a 8/10 stars. Crust was very good with the chicken flavored great as well. Nice and crusty on the outside, yet still tender and moist on the inside. Mashed potatoes I would give 9/10, as they were homemade and tasted excellent! The fried okra I would say was a 6/10, as they seemed like typical frozen okra. They were good, but nothing to wow you. Club Sandwich 7/10 - the usual Club Sandwich, but all of the ingredients were fresh and portioned nice. Cheeseburger 7/10 - nice juicy burger and crispy fries. Typical cheeseburger plate, but everything was tasty. The service 8/10 - our server was attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere 7/10 - overall was nice. Seemed a little run down in some areas and renovated in others. It's a quirky atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this as a stop on I-10!! #roadtrip #comfortfood #southern #homecooking Cheeseburgers Fried Chicken

Fried catfish served piping hot. Loved the coleslaw and fried squash. My boyfriend raved over the homemade sauerkraut. Friendly service too.

I enjoy their barbecue. It's right out of the 60's and like the places we had in my childhood.

Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

City Market in Luling was established in either 1957 or 1958, depending on the source. The…read morerestaurant's own website says "Established in 1958," and most historical references use 1958. So as of 2026, the barbecue place is about 68 years old. It's considered one of the classic old-school Central Texas barbecue joints and still operates much like a traditional meat-market-style BBQ house. This is an older building, including bathrooms... One of which was not working. Was disappointed that their sides include potato salad, and beans only because when I go to barbecue, I love Colliard greens, potato salad, beet salad, etc. not available here. The brisket slice I had likely the best piece of brisket I've ever had in my life. Now... Don't go crazy. I don't eat brisket typically when I do barbecue. The rib that I had was decent. The sausage I had by comparison to other barbecue places was unfortunately the worst that I've ever had. I'm not sure what grind they use, but it seems like it was more beef and somewhat sweet to my pallet which I personally don't care for in sausage. Overall, if I just wanted brisket, I would return but next time I'm in Luling I likely will go to the place right next-door to them and try them.

Brisket was lean and lacked flavor to me. Sausage was straight forward and solid. The bbq sauce was a bit of an off texture to me with a sweet side I don't love. But the stars of my plate that got the 4th star were the potato salad and the banana pudding. Potato salad was glorious texture, temperature, just the right amount of tang from a mustard and pickle vinegar element, rustic with red potato rind, the right amount of cracked black pepper and I would have liked to have eaten on that for days!! The banana pudding was just right. Like straight from grandma's kitchen - perfect texture, flavor, a fresh banana slice buried inside, and a softened vanilla wafer garnish. I love that you could get it as a side with my plate. Also would have liked a Giant margarine container of that in the fridge to eat on all weekend.
