Previous visits to Robert's Steakhouse had been okay BUT our recent visit was awful. My sweet potato was not cooked; it was hard. I couldn't mash the butter into it! My pork chop was chewy/rubbery. My husband's seafood plate was terrible. It has to be pretty bad for him to not eat everything on his plate. He said it was "NASTY". Maybe they had a new cook that was not trained. Have always loved their food and family feel to the restaurant but I was blown away recently. Took our 2 year old grandson for his birthday dinner and the staff heard it was his birthday so they ALL gathered around our table and sang happy birthday to him, along with half the other customers participating. We have eaten here many times. We've never been disappointed. You can call to reserve a table, but we've never had to wait very long at all and we're usually seated immediately. Their steaks are wonderful, and always cooked to order. But we've also enjoyed their fish and chicken dishes, and I've often ordered their amazing kabobs. Most entrees include soup or salad and a side. I've always enjoyed these, too. Soup options vary, but when offered, I love their tortilla soup. The steak soup is also great, of course. And the salads are always very fresh. My favorite side dish (I think they call them Sidewinders, lol) is the steamed vegetables, which include thin-sliced yellow squash and other veggies, always perfectly steamed and buttered. They have great iced tea, plus beer, wine and a full bar. There's plenty of parking. And it's conveniently located on 95 just off I-10. The place is well lit and not too noisy. There are other nice restaurants in Flatonia, too. It's got amazing options for its size. And we patronize them, as well. But this place has been our family favorite for a few years now. Check their hours. I believe they're closed Wednesdays. Also, get on their email list to see their lunch specials, which change regularly. read more

The woman who refills drinks walked up to our table, grabbed an empty glass, and repeatedly tapped it on the table in front of one of our guests loudly, until we all stared at her stunned, and angrily mumbled, "what are you drinking??", interrupting the person at the table who was in the middle of speaking to us. This is absolutely ridiculous behavior, and she should be both ashamed of herself and let go from the restaurant. She was rude to us last time we came as well. Safe to say we WILL NEVER come back to this place, specifically because of that woman. We have ate there for years, holding multiple get togethers in their private room. But never again. This woman is actively ruining the entire business. After she pulled the stunt with the glass she stood near the table staring us down. It was insane. Pathetic service on her part. I've been here several times. The chicken fried chicken is my favorite with either green beans or baked potato. Service is always quick. I don't like the pre-dinner rolls. One time I said no rolls so they brought chips and salsa instead. The decor is country and Texas themed. Bathrooms were clean. Waiters and bartender are nice. There's a bar with TVs usually showing some kind of sports. There's a private room available. I'm guessing there's a fee but I haven't looked into it so I don't know for sure. This place was amazing...we were seated right away had our drink order in minutes. Then we had out order in just as fast and got out food quickly as well. Service was next level and I didn't even have to ask for refills on my drink. The food was hot and my chicken was moist and the potatoes were perfect. Parking was easy and the lot was large. Made a stop at this steakhouse on our roadtrip and it was worth every penny Food came out fast and delicious! We got the chopped steak with onions and mushrooms with 2 sides of green beans and mashed potatoes! The cooks cooked it to a perfect medium temp. Roberts K Bob plate. Shrimp, chicken and filet mignon steak, with steak fries. It was delicious the steak was perfect, tender the only way I like my steak. The chicken was tender marinated to perfection. The shrimp was excellent too. On top of everything was onion, Bell peppers and mushrooms. My husband had a 10 oz ribeye with melted butter and with steak fries. He would've preferred large steak fries. The steak was excellent. The only negative was our waiter he was never to be seen. We had a great waitress . . . but when you have said that, you have said pretty much everything. My late mother had a "thing" about restaurants with "dim lighting." She hated when she could not see her food nor the surroundings (from the point of view of cleanliness and quality). She would NOT have liked Robert's, for the interior is exceedingly murky, and the effect isn't good / intimate . . . . it almost feels as though it is a means to hiding a rather unappetizing level of cleanliness. For example, the plastic menus were horribly STICKY, such that you felt your hands were no longer clean after holding them.. And their prime rib, when it came, really was not tasting (or looking, or smelling) good. But there was a bottle of red wine for just $20 . . . a bargain these days. They mixed a good Margarita. And the waitress was excellent. Yet, cheap wine notwithstanding, the final tab came to $136 with tip on top. Mroe than I was expecting "out in the country." If the interior was just made brighter, cleaner, and less "grungy" -- and the food tightened up -- I think there's plenty of potential here for a nice relaxing country steakhouse. I don't like giving overly negative reviews, but I think it's worth giving this one for it's a place that I wanted to like and jsut a few things would ahve made a huge difference for me. We had a family coming together between San Antonio and Houston. We tried to find a midway point. We made a reservation for 7. Even though there were areas of opportunity, I gave 5 stars for the following reasons: The food was delicious. Fresh food products cooked and flavored perfectly. The service was great. Our wait staff checked on us frequently on food quality and beverage refills without hovering over the table. The value proposition was more than fair. Considering the amount of food and quality of the food, the price is very fair. We will be going back. There were a couple of areas of opportunity all of which are related to the dining environment: The black ceilings with limited natural lighting can definitely be improved upon as the room felt dark and dated. The tables and chairs are dated could be updated. Keep up the great work!!! read more

The steak is good. I tried the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. This dish actually is a skewer steak with veggies. BUT it only comes with 2 mushrooms and onions. My husband ordered medium cowboy steak but his was a little over cooked. Still good. Kids pizza and macaroni and cheese are not the best. Pizza is not fresh and Mac and cheese seemed like Kraft Mac so if you or your kid do not mind great place to stop by for steak! read more

Stopped in on the way back from Round Top to San Antonio. We checked Yelp to see what was on the way, to stop for a bite to eat. This restaurant is surprisingly HUGE! And when we left - they had a wait! Every table was filled, they had 2 parties of 15+ guests, and a party happening in their event space. Must be good - we thought. They had alot to offer on the menu, brought out fresh bread rolls and warm butter. So tasty! I decided to go with the blackened chicken. It is grilled chicken breast, blackened and then topped with shrimp and crabmeat in a white wine cream sauce! Delish! I saw another table order the French fried onions - and it was the largest tower of fried onions I have ever seen! Smelled delicious as well, they also got the fried oyster special. The last time I came in to Robert's steakhouse it was amazing, we stopped in today for lunch and the service was pretty disappointing. I work in the service industry so I try not to complain too much because I know how it is. But the chicken tasted unseasoned and it was very hard to finish anything on my plate. No one came by and asked how the food was and even the salads took almost 30 minutes to come out. I will say the salads were good, and we ate all of them. read more
